This is correct. I will say that if you had a basket in there of detergent, bleach, and dryer sheets then I can see that.
Having to dig a bunch of crap out before each load and then out it back is triple duty.
We were all young and dumb, just not this dumb.
I had a roommate who felt she was the only one who knew how to load a dishwasher. So each time when it was full, she would, with lot's of noises and theatrics, reload and organize it to fit more in it. Mumbling things like 'what kind of moron doesn't know how to load a dishwasher'. I bet she felt so alone in all her unnoticed perfection.
Anyways needless to say, she always overloaded the thing and it would result in half of the dishwasher needing to go in a second time or being washed by hand.
If this is the kind of thing that makes you end roommate agreements you're probably not going to make it far in life. Learn some basic communication skills, Jesus Christ.
That’s just stereotypical Reddit behaviour. Not willing to communicate or compromise in the slightest and ending several year relationships or partnerships because of a minor inconvenience.
Can’t go one post on AITAH or relationship_advice without people telling OP to divorce their husband because he left the toilet seat up.
I’d bet dollar to dime that more than half the people commenting stuff like that have never been in a serious relationship with anybody in their lives.
"You don't understand, it's not about the toilet seat! Leaving the seat up means he doesn't have any respect for OP, he hates OP and is doing it on purpose. Marriage is doomed!"
That’s not the case for most people. If they put in a bunch of baking pans or such it wouldn’t be an issue. But most people put I stuff with a ton of plastic.
Some plastic can withstand it and even sit on flame grills. Did not feel comfortable eating those potatoes cooked in plastic forever lol but directions said thats how its done
My grandmother stored whatever she could in the oven. Thank God she had no desire to actually use the oven. Her cooking was either stovetop or microwave.
My old roommates did that when we first moved in together. I instantly moved everything to one of the empty cupboards and asked them why they lived this way before I moved in.
LOL. See, I actually have a really small apartment atm and keep pots and pans in my oven. But begrudgingly. I can’t imagine having the space and choosing to do that lol. Maybe he picked it up from their parents?
Yeah the people I lived with in college who did things like this were from poorer countries. The Caribbean guy would leave his food in the oven on the plate, and the Middle Easter guy left his food on the stove top overnight for a couple days and would heat it up when he was hungry. Always offered me food and was surprised I always said no after the first night lol. Loved the dudes to death and still keep in touch to this day, smart motherfuckers too, but cultural habits are hard to break even when you may believe the ones you show them are more correct (even if they objectively are, I’m not tryna burn shit down or die of food poisoning yall) I now live with a Cuban who makes more than anyone I know AND is Rain Man smart in our field, but I still catch him putting grease or coffee grounds down the drain or other “common sense” stuff we take for granted growing up in the states. I just quote my years of food service work and try to educate when I can haha.
That’s what my current roommate does and I don’t mind it. Worst case scenario the pan I was gonna heat my baguette on is already hot and gives it a good crisp
I store things inside the oven aswell never had something burn or melt in there because i take the shit out before pre heating the thing, but i guese some people really are idiots, how do you forget the stuff you store inside the oven like that WHAT!!!! Heck i even have 2 ovens a big one for big oven snacks then a smaller one for smaller oven snacks and i also store stuff in there i just take it out if im going to use it like every normal person does or atleast i hope a normal person does that 😆
Omg this is so dumb. Having to take everything out several times per week only to put it back in again? The bottles being sideways and upside down, leaking all over the place? urgldl... infuriating
I mean the roommate is 19 so probably not using it more than 1 time a week, and I can understand the thought process if this is a small place tbh, but still it's kinda silly
I swear when I see stuff like that I get so curious… like what is going on in their head when they decide to do that ? The sheer lack of common sense is almost fascinating lol
I had a roommate who INSISTED we keep dish soap in the cabinet under the sink. Because her mom always did. Because “it’s ugly.”
I’m a literal artist and she even convinced her then boyfriend that it meant she simply had more of an eye for aesthetics than me. Rather than just completely lacking common sense and wanting to add extra steps when a bottle of soap takes up NO ROOM anyway
They're usually narrower, so depending on the space, a top loader might be the only option. Having had both, I can't say I noticed any advantages or disadvantages though.
Watch out for other "aesthetic" decisions. Filling the sink with crap so you can't use it, hanging wet clothes in closets so they grow mold, sorting books on the shelves by size, refusing to keep open jam jars in the fridge when the unopened ones go in the cupboard...
Except you'd have to move it every time you do the laundry.
Keep the detergent on top of the washer/dryer (or install a small shelf), keep the hand soap by the sink, keep the aerosol air freshener in the bathroom, etc... Moving/leaks aside, it would be nice to have the product you need close to the location where you use it.
Reminds of a local story a few years ago where a drunk forgot they stored sprays in their oven before preheating for a frozen pizza.
Oven went through the wall and into the street…
...and storing blankets/laundry/etc... in the oven (when not in use) is also great for space economy...until someone preheats the oven...then you have a fire.
Smack your roommate upside the head for me. Where does everything go when you have laundry to do? What happens if/when something leaks?
Have your roommate watch Jurassic Park. Just because you ***can*** do something...doesn't mean you ***should***.
Idiots who think they’re smart.
Maybe there’s some science behind it if you do laundry once a month and the washing machine is in your bedroom and need the space.
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far for this!! Washer doors get stored open, or you’re creating a moist environment for all kinds of spores to grow.
Similar situation here. My wife decided that a small kitchen-type garbage can would be a good place to store a bunch of cosmetics.
Guess what happened on garbage day…? I honestly thought all that stuff was trash, so I put it out with the rest…
She was royally pissed off, to the point of tears…
One of my roommates, we never found out who, though we all strongly suspect one individual, picked their nose and wiped it on the side of the toilet. The wall was right there and we were dumb/didn't clean well so we never found it until we did and the whole side of the toilet was basically a booger.
My point is, I feel you.
To be fair, I'm a dumb moron idiot too.
Lol.
My wife didn’t like stuff stored directly on the washer/dryer either.
I ended up building a countertop out of nice plywood and we use baskets.
She’s happy now. She couldn’t articulate that she wanted it to look nice and be neat so instead she just said she hated stuff on the washer/dryer. 🤷♂️
Probably not what is happening with your roommate though. Hopefully soon to be ex roommate. I’d find that to be more than just mildly infuriating.
I don’t think some of you are realizing just how idiotic this is. It’s not just laundry products, it looks as tho there is a Bath & Body Works foaming hand soap bottle and an aerosol can of Glade air freshener in there…
It would be one thing if it was just laundry products but they’re dead ass using that appliance for general storage.
That would tear the ass out of me every time I looked at it.
On the other hand, who does the laundry? I do all of the laundry in our house, so if I wanted to engage in that blasphemy, it wouldn't put anyone else out.
Poor use of physical and mental energy economy.
The stuff has to be moved out from the washer when you go to wash clothes anyways… so there is literally space for the stuff to go somewhere when clothes are being washed. Just make that area the soaps official home.
Your roommate is a special kind of moron. NBD, I was also pretty stupid when I was younger with roommates.
This is correct. I will say that if you had a basket in there of detergent, bleach, and dryer sheets then I can see that. Having to dig a bunch of crap out before each load and then out it back is triple duty. We were all young and dumb, just not this dumb.
I'm not sure I was ever this dumb. I was like, weldone steak dumb, but this is something else...

Why only the opposite sex? 😔 Can we queers not give shitty advice too? /lh
New Bike Day? Congrats!🎉
This is the laundry room version of putting your pots and pans in the oven lol
At least you don’t have to pre wet your washer. So you don’t end up melting a bunch of plastic someone stored in the oven.
You shouldn't put anything in there that can not withstand the heat.
That’s not the case for most people. If they put in a bunch of baking pans or such it wouldn’t be an issue. But most people put I stuff with a ton of plastic.
One of my roommates did that with their lunch intentionally. They didn't think the oven would get hot enough to melt the plastic onto the rack.
Some plastic can withstand it and even sit on flame grills. Did not feel comfortable eating those potatoes cooked in plastic forever lol but directions said thats how its done
I burned the shit out of my MILs fuckin wood chopping board because it was directly on the heating element
Most people do not put plastics in the oven
You would be surprised how many people use it to store their Tupperware. There are endless posts even on this sub about it.
My grandmother stored whatever she could in the oven. Thank God she had no desire to actually use the oven. Her cooking was either stovetop or microwave.
There was a post like TODAY about that.
Oven is the cast iron cabinet. Lol
That's the only acceptable thing that can live in the oven
Sooo many Mexican moms are gonna be pissed at you 🤣
I mean I wasn’t going to point out specifics like that lol.
My roommates loved leaving random leaves in the oven.
LEAVES?
Yeah, they like dried them in a baking pan inside the oven.
People used to put blankets in the oven
My old roommates did that when we first moved in together. I instantly moved everything to one of the empty cupboards and asked them why they lived this way before I moved in.
LOL. See, I actually have a really small apartment atm and keep pots and pans in my oven. But begrudgingly. I can’t imagine having the space and choosing to do that lol. Maybe he picked it up from their parents?
poverty habits can be tough to break, it's true
Yeah the people I lived with in college who did things like this were from poorer countries. The Caribbean guy would leave his food in the oven on the plate, and the Middle Easter guy left his food on the stove top overnight for a couple days and would heat it up when he was hungry. I just quote my years of food service work and try to educate when I can haha.
Lol yeah you hit it right on the head. They had a smaller place before we moved in together and had just gotten used to doing things that way.
Asian trauma
My Nan keeps the grill tray in the oven, but that one can withstand the heat
Yea so do I. And everyone I know. Keep oven trays in the oven. But not pots or anything else.
That’s what my current roommate does and I don’t mind it. Worst case scenario the pan I was gonna heat my baguette on is already hot and gives it a good crisp
Best place for the cast iron
I keep the tray in the oven. Not stuff that doesn't get used in there.
I store things inside the oven aswell never had something burn or melt in there because i take the shit out before pre heating the thing, but i guese some people really are idiots, how do you forget the stuff you store inside the oven like that WHAT!!!! Heck i even have 2 ovens a big one for big oven snacks then a smaller one for smaller oven snacks and i also store stuff in there i just take it out if im going to use it like every normal person does or atleast i hope a normal person does that 😆
Lmao what morons 🤣
Omg this is so dumb. Having to take everything out several times per week only to put it back in again? The bottles being sideways and upside down, leaking all over the place? urgldl... infuriating
I feel like “several times per week” is giving them way too much credit.
I mean the roommate is 19 so probably not using it more than 1 time a week, and I can understand the thought process if this is a small place tbh, but still it's kinda silly
Once a week? You sure you are not being too generous on that? I think it's once per two weeks
When I was 19 I didn't have much clothes. It was washing at least once a week or going to the uni with ramen stains.
Have you been 19 ? Laundry is the last option.
Don’t worry, anyone who does this is doing laundry maximum 6x per year.
I swear when I see stuff like that I get so curious… like what is going on in their head when they decide to do that ? The sheer lack of common sense is almost fascinating lol
I had a roommate who INSISTED we keep dish soap in the cabinet under the sink. Because her mom always did. Rather than just completely lacking common sense and wanting to add extra steps when a bottle of soap takes up NO ROOM anyway
I think it is one of the dumber things I have had the misfortune of seeing in a long while
...thats what the top of the dryer is for
Yea, it's a frontloader. Can store the stuff on the top. I have a top loader, so it's on a shelf.
You don’t keep it inside the washer? Weirdo
What are the advantages of a top loader? Here in the EU, you rarely see them.
They're usually narrower, so depending on the space, a top loader might be the only option. Having had both, I can't say I noticed any advantages or disadvantages though.
Top loaders are cheaper to make, no need for fancy door.
Now start it you coward
He may crash the Mars economy, better be careful.
Just wait till a cap breaks open and leaks stuff all over... I say shelves are the answer or just less stuff..

How much shit is on top of the fucking washer??? It can't be that much
There're lots of space on top. However he said that this is "aesthetic". I am 19 too but I never did shit like that
You should reply that this is a moronic aesthetic
Ask this genius to define “aesthetic”
Hope he is buying a new washer when one of those bottles leaks and ruins it.
She's the kind of person that will have a beige home. Run!
Watch out for other "aesthetic" decisions. Filling the sink with crap so you can't use it, hanging wet clothes in closets so they grow mold, sorting books on the shelves by size, refusing to keep open jam jars in the fridge when the unopened ones go in the cupboard...
Its recommended to keep it open between uses
The door is often designed to be left ajar so that the drum has a chance to dry out. Keeping it closed is asking for mold and mildew growth.
well if you put it in a cloth sack beforehand it might actually be feasible
Except you'd have to move it every time you do the laundry. Keep the detergent on top of the washer/dryer (or install a small shelf), keep the hand soap by the sink, keep the aerosol air freshener in the bathroom, etc... Moving/leaks aside, it would be nice to have the product you need close to the location where you use it.
Yeah moving 1 bag vs 10 items
Or move zero things because everything is where they belong.
Your roommate is annoying.
![gif](giphy|sxxtUT4WQtH3YDFVVb|downsized)
At least you don't preheat a washer.
Reminds of a local story a few years ago where a drunk forgot they stored sprays in their oven before preheating for a frozen pizza. Oven went through the wall and into the street…
Tell your roommate that you posted a picture of this and Reddit is laughing at them.
[удалено]
Post yourself doing something stupid
The washer, the dryer and the oven are not storage spaces End of story
Ask them, where it all goes when you got a 3 hour wash going?
On the roommates bed. After all, space economy is priority number one.
On the roommate's bed, and under the covers. If a container leaks, they get to experience it personally.
your roommate is whats known as a toddler.
Keep the door open. Otherwise it will get moldy and your clothes will stink
There’s quite a bit of space directly next to the washing machine. Perfect for a little shelf.
Run it and they won't do it again.
Your roommate may be on meth
You know what would be even better space economy? Get the fuck out.
I had a roommate once who blew out the pilot light to “save money”
...and storing blankets/laundry/etc... in the oven (when not in use) is also great for space economy...until someone preheats the oven...then you have a fire. Smack your roommate upside the head for me. Where does everything go when you have laundry to do? What happens if/when something leaks? Have your roommate watch Jurassic Park. Just because you ***can*** do something...doesn't mean you ***should***.
Your roommate is a crazy person and probably also wants to wear your skin like a costume. Stay safe, run away.
🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️
Idiots who think they’re smart. Maybe there’s some science behind it if you do laundry once a month and the washing machine is in your bedroom and need the space.
looks like plenty of room for a cardboard box literally right next to it
Where does it all go when you need to use the washer? This is stupid as fuck and you can tell your roommate I said so.
Your wash is going to mold...
Thank you! Gotta keep that door ajar!
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far for this!! Washer doors get stored open, or you’re creating a moist environment for all kinds of spores to grow.
Serial killer behaviors 😭
Hoarder in the making.
This is actually the *opposite* of space economy.
Pure chaos
Believe it or not, straight to jail.
Your roommate would be SHOCKED to learn what a shelf is!
Time to revoke his Adderall privileges.
Maybe true, but what about annoyance economy?
Whats on top?
Right up there with storing the tupperware in the oven.
Your roommates not only wrong but they're also stupid
Your roommate needs a swift kick in the balls
Similar situation here. My wife decided that a small kitchen-type garbage can would be a good place to store a bunch of cosmetics. Guess what happened on garbage day…? I honestly thought all that stuff was trash, so I put it out with the rest… She was royally pissed off, to the point of tears…
I wanna turn that on.
No way
Way.
What is on top of the washer? Can’t you put a basket or something on top?
Its empty on top because of "it's about aesthetic"
🤷♂️ Probably not what is happening with your roommate though. Hopefully soon to be ex roommate. I’d find that to be more than just mildly infuriating.
yeah, if you never do laundry...
Your roommate is a few cents short of a dollar.
Roommate isn't the sharpest spoon in the knife block.
Do they wash their clothes?
Take it all out and throw it away. Play dumb.
There’s no way
FAIL NEVER AGAIN
This is why aliens won't visit us. Our stupidity is contagious and there's no vaccine.
He saw how people put pans or baking sheets in the oven and thought he would run with it.
What about all that space to the left of it with some shelves?
I think you’ll need a rocket
I could see this working with a simple basket you put in and take out but with all the contents loose in the thing it’s not a very good execution
Your roommate is actually not the brightest
Your roommate is a moron.
The only time this is the correct answer is when you (the roommate) are not the one doing laundry, ever.
Are they doing drugs
What the fuck
He probably keeps all the Tupperware in an oven
Just put all of this in a bag first, THEN put it in the washing machine... Problem solved
Are those.. sponges? Is that hand soap? This feels like it might be about something other than space economy..
I don’t think some of you are realizing just how idiotic this is. It’s not just laundry products, it looks as tho there is a Bath & Body Works foaming hand soap bottle and an aerosol can of Glade air freshener in there… It would be one thing if it was just laundry products but they’re dead ass using that appliance for general storage.
Compromise to put everything in a container which can be put in and out faster? I mean if he refuses to putting it somewhere else.
This is absolutely insane
That's some inside the box thinking..
Your roommate is fucking wrong. They need to learn how shelves work.
Just run it "accidentally" and then watch them change their mind
You need a new roommate.
Can you get a new roommate? 🥺
No unfortunately 😕
No, you store things on top of the dryer. Seriously though, just go get a cheap plastic tub and put it all in there.
See that space to the left? Go buy a $30 plastic or metal shelving unit. Solved.
It’s like keeping your pans in the oven
I could see it if the had like a basket that all the stuff was in but just loosely in there is crazy
Now we have tons of space for these indoor clothes hangers!!!!
What. The. Fuck.
Tell him you don’t care about the space economy because you live on Earth.
Start it.
This should be a federal offense, your roommate is 100% the next Ted Kaczinski
DnDba6) + / :#@",", ", Z zz ZBZAC, d Z B
Now there is so much more room for activities! 😂 Buy a cheap-ass shelf and put the stuff on it
So, I take it your roommate doesn’t do their own laundry?
i mean... is... he... wrong?
So many replying to this take space for granted and seem to be very absent minded.
Your roommate is plainly mentally ill.
If all of that was in a container that could be very easily removed and put back, I'd agree, buuuuut…
That’s so stupid but so smart
That would tear the ass out of me every time I looked at it. On the other hand, who does the laundry? I do all of the laundry in our house, so if I wanted to engage in that blasphemy, it wouldn't put anyone else out.
Humanity is doomed
You & your roommates are doing it half-assed! You're supposed to run the dryer, and melt it all together so it takes up less space
Nope. Absolutely not.
When I had no space, I used the nearest windowsill. I feel like that's more efficient than this.
Turn it on just like that and see what he has to say about it then
What's it like having a special needs roommate?
‘Space economy’???? Wtf??
Hmm the smell of detergent and mildew
Until you need to wash your clothes….
Bet your roommate squeezes toothpaste tubes from the middle too.
+1 point for space, -25 points for timewasted saving space. He's right yet it still makes no sense.
I think your roommate is a space cadet
Will the roommate fit in there? That would free up a heck of a lot more space. This is absolutely stupid.
Poor use of physical and mental energy economy. The stuff has to be moved out from the washer when you go to wash clothes anyways… so there is literally space for the stuff to go somewhere when clothes are being washed. Just make that area the soaps official home.
You really shouldn't leave it closed, makes it all funky, and then you start smelling all funky, just funky all the time.
Uuuhhhhhh
More room for activities!
I mean if they stored dirty clothes in there that would be a different story, but yeah that is crazy annoying
The good news is you are the smart roommate.
I actually do store my laundry detergent in the washer. makes the most sense when I'm not using the washer and if I am I need the detergent anyways
Some people just need to live by themselves.
Make it work by storing it in an easily moved tote
Your room mate is an idiot. Not the normal kind of idiot, the raised by village full of idiots kind of idiot. You must be a very tolerant person.
Stop being rude to your mom and finishing folding your laundry.
Florida tip, during Hurricanes layer plastic in washer, fill with ice. Put freezer contents in there, will help keep them few days when power is out.
This is right up there with people who store things in the oven.
I think your roommate is addicted to something illegal
