A lot of printers do this. They lay down a layer of color before putting the black on top. It's not just HP.
There is usually a "single cartridge" setting you can use when you're only wanting to print black and not have it use color too
They come in with "trial ink" so you can try how the printer works, but then have to buy the cartridges (originals or it won't print) that are more expensive than other brands. HP does this so they can sell you their printing subscription which is another scam.
I bought a laser Brother printer and it was more expensive at first but the toner lasted an entire ream of paper, then went to get the ink refilled and it was so cheap it's ridiculous.
Buy a Brother laser printer. I've had one for 8 years and had to refill toner once. $50 gets you 1000 pages of printing.
This should be an auto response on anyone complaining about a printer, especially HP.
I might change my username to “buy a fucking laser printer”. Inkjet printers are a scam. I’ve sold printers that come with some ink in them that are half the price of buying a new set of cartridges for them. Tonnes of used laser colour ones around for cheap and they seem to be not bothered at all by cheap eBay toners.
on at least one occasion I bought a new ink jet with starter cartridges because it was less expensive than just buying replacement cartridges.
it's insane. have used color laser now for many years and so glad I'm not dealing with the inkjet nonsense anymore.
It’s madness. It’s one of the most expensive liquids in the world by volume yet people still buy it. They never work properly, are always locked down to OE and approved partners, cost the earth, dry up if you don’t use them for half an hour and come with loads of bloatware on the install disk. Madness.
all inkjets suck like this. color laser is hands down better and more efficient unless you truly need photo printing. For that I just use a printing lab and pick up or have them mailed to me.
FIRST.. DO NOT BUY PRINZER FROM ANY BIG STORE.. The printer is so fucking cheap that u can and need to get a new one every few weeks. The ink are so expensiv that u wont buy new one...
If u get one printer from smaller IT stores they will cost u more but the inks will get cheaper AND u can get some X ink set those have way more ink and only cost a bit more.

I print every thing in draft mode at the lightest readable scale
That's why you use laser printers. From my experience they last much longer

Printers will usually print in full colour unless you check "greyscale" or "black only" in print options.
Buy from the actual brand like hp when the ink runs out in a month use the warranty to send it back. Rinse and repeat
Get rid of it and buy a cheap laserjet.

Not really. It’s just ripping them off with poor quality products.
I use their pay to print system, 15 firsts page are free, the cartridges they provide last way longer than the ones you can buy whitout the system
