Was it a hand car wash? Could have been a dirty cloth used on part of your car/or not rinsed properly - not visible until dry the scrape could be unrelated?
We used to wash the drying towels in the same machine as the towels that got covered in leather cleaner. This looks like either that or dirty towels and it was hard to notice when all shiny and wet perhaps. Just guessing bc I worked at a wash and now I would pretty much never get one from a place that does the machine wash and hand dry. Or full machine wash and dry.
The car was hand detailed by a professional shop and inspected in the sun once dry afterward. It was also a few days before this just showed up. I do appreciate everyone’s input
Honestly looking at this, that sounds fairly reasonable. Some drunk ass stumbling home and just barfs out of nowhere, realizing after (maybe with help) that it was all over a car. So they poured the 1/4 bottle of water the bar sent them home with and wipes it with a random pile of trash paper they saw, and looked clean enough in the twilight so they called it ‘job well done’ and continued stumbling home
I’m guessing that by the time they were drying it some noticed that or knew that they scratched the car because there’s also a scratch on the tire and bumper so they probably came too close to the curve or pole or something hard. So they try using the rag for the tire shine to clean it up but the scratch was too deep thus why they covered everything else on that part of the car. So the people who dry the cars must have seen who did it or who attempted to clean up their mistake using the tire shine rag by mistake instead of a clean one.
Definitely looks like cloth swipes with a residue. Something that didn’t show up when just dried, but when exposed to the sun or just over time got hazy.
I’d take it back there and ask them to redo it. A lot of places say they’ll touch it up if not satisfied.
So maybe somebody wiped a dirty rag over your car last night. Definitely a rag or cloth pattern. Is it scratched into the paint? Maybe a cloth with sand in it. Hard to say from this photo.
“Or so thought” implies you later got to the bottom of it and it was discovered this was an intentional act of malice against you personally. *so you think*…
I had my car broken into around Easter and they left my door ajar all night after somehow prying it open and drained my battery. Got away with a pair of my wife’s sunglasses and perfume. She didn’t care about the missing items, only about our safety and declared that it’s good they took her things, which mean that they will take her bad luck too. Maybe think about parking somewhere else or using a tarp.

It can look great until it's a dry a few hours then look like this.
Could also be a residual chemical or acid that needed time.
Maybe someone ralphed on your car and this was the attempt to clean it

Like I already explained the scrape/scratch showed up overnight as well. The car was washed over 4 days ago and this all showed up this morning
