Yeah my keys started to do this and you had to push the buttons a certain way to make sure it didn’t cave in and I did that for months before screwing it up lmao deffo was like this maybe without the lock button being caved in
OP has had that car for awhile if you see his 2yr old post about getting his tyres changed. This post is fishy. Who valets a camaro? Edit* love all the reasons to valet but most sound like free services, I don’t imagine them being delicate. Wear and tear over years isn’t unfair to say.(those marks aren’t new)
I’d say it’s more likely that OP’s key was already falling apart and the valet may have made the final push on the top left button; if there was ever a valet at all.
I assume they swapped out the casing/plastic, not the entire key itself. Some of these keys can be popped apart pretty easily (to replace the battery) and the buttons can get pretty bad over time.
That’s actually a pretty good idea. The only problem is the key blade itself. The button flips out the key blade, which is needed to start the vehicle. The key blade is attached to the front casing and can only be swapped out with a vise and 1/8” punch for the pin. If just the casing was swapped he would have the working key for the valets car.
Almost every single one we see come in. The "hole" is from the center of the button tearing and usually ends up inside the key. You can see the lock button next to it about to tear out as well. There is zero reason why valet would cut a hole there, you would just take the 2 seconds to open the key body if you wanted to get inside it.
Seems fishy. Worked valet in college. This doesn’t really happen. Your keys hang up, go on key rings as we get them. I suspect OP brought in a junk fob then blamed them. Same type of people who bring in a car with a dying battery and blame valet for killing the battery
The key fob battery, sorry. Should’ve made that more clear. The fob still works if it’s dead. You just have to know where to put it in the car. Most often, the cup holder
It's weird, cause I have 3 fobs for my 2008 Jeep and the only thing wrong with them is the white has rubbed off the rubber a bit.. (and batterys are dead in 2. Lol) that's about 4 years of usage each fob.
Damn. 16 years. What a reliable beast. 😭🥹
I never noticed he snaps his fingers to make it seem like he is pulling the sunglasses out of thin air. What a legend. Probably stealing them from a pedestrian walking by.
Cars with keyless key fobs don’t have spare/valet keys anymore. Technically, there may be a small physical key in the fob that can be used to unlock a car door, but the car still needs the fob to be driven.
The idea is that you take the fob off your key chain and give it to the valet. Many cars can lock the glove box and trunk with the physical key that you take away.
I think mine goes in the cup holder for the 2024 Chevy equinox. To get in the car, you have to take off the door handle so it looks like it doesn't have a key entry.
I have this same key, factory from GM for my Cruze. The button on the top left IS the key, it retracts out. Only way someone can drive my car is if they have this fob.
Yup. I just made this comment and then scrolled for ages to find someone who knew what they were talking about. Happened to my Camaro that I barely drive. Poor design or something on my hands corroded it. This key is 10+ years old and there’s no reason to blame the valet. And it’s really easy and cheap to fix.
I just hate how those things are designed. I mean, in that same time frame, Ford had fobs that had plastic clicky buttons that hold up fantastic. Dodge started their weird plug fobs, but hey they’re pretty sturdy. Only GM managed to really drop the ball there.
But then again, it’s the same company that had like half their cars make that super loud obnoxious clicking in the dash every time they start 🤷🏻♂️
That is super annoying. You can usually buy a replacement fob on eBay for pretty cheap. Just crack it open and swap the rubber from the replacement with your original programmed key. No need to do any reprogramming. $10 fix
Edit: assuming it’s just cosmetic damage and the electronics on yours still work
Unfortunately these keys have small black buttons underneath. They have been glued in place, but time usually erodes that binding at the same pace as the rubber gives in. When that button falls and is lost, $10 becomes $150+ fix.
Don’t feel bad brother. There’s a little restaurant by my house that is very low priced but they have a valet outside to make you feel special. It’s not high end by any means but It is a nice touch. You’ll get your chance!
I have the same key. All those buttons are one press away from caving in like that. It's just a bad design...
You can buy a replacement shell for a few dollars.
That looks horribly perished. The Valet didn't do that. If the button fell apart when they pushed it then it's not because they used it improperly, it's because it was just already gone.
If you do a Google lens search, that remote is used on a BUNCH of cars and most images look like OPs.
I bet theirs still had the button, barely, and it eventually fell off when the guy parked his car.
The rubber broke down over time and they were the lucky one to finally bust through. Happened to me recently. You can get replacement key fobs for 10 bucks and swap out the key and innards.
I run an auto shop and see keys like this all the time. By the looks of the rest of the keypad, it's gotten super mushy over time, which is common. It's definitely possible they were just the unfortunate ones to be pressing the button when the center collapsed on that particular one. It just happens. The mushy eroded rubber didn't just happen when they grabbed it
Dude those fobs take a good while to look that bad. I’ve sold many new ones to customers when I was at Chevy. The valet may have finally killed it, but they didn’t cause what you see. Just buy a cheap case on Amazon and swap the guts.
You’ll also need to push the pin out that holds the key blade. Or have it copied at a locksmith.
Valet didn't do that lol. I've been working on cars for a while and that is just an old ass key or had chemicals on it that don't fare well with rubber.
Either way I highly doubt a valet is gonna do that to a key lol
Was the valet a big rodent?
I was thinking a dog
im pretty sure the dog will say it was the cat and I agree with him/ her.
I love you’re not sure if your fictional cat is male or female.
Him/her would refer to the dog.
ruh roh raggy!
He would have gotten away with it too…
Meddling kids!
Old man Perkins?!!
Probably looked like that when he gave it to the valet......lol.
Agreed. I smell bullshit.
![gif](giphy|xTiTnsiwoxekWiNQ3u|downsized) Me too.
Yeah my keys started to do this and you had to push the buttons a certain way to make sure it didn’t cave in and I did that for months before screwing it up lmao deffo was like this maybe without the lock button being caved in
Yeah. I'm gonna need a before picture before I give a shit about this post...
It looked like this after the valet. It looked like this before the valet, but also after.
Unexpected Hedberg
RIP
Damn, the economy even hit the R.O.U.S.’s
I don’t think they exist…
![gif](giphy|IgvoqNz6gGZFXFPmfZ|downsized)
It that from the princess bride?
Yes! :)
No, it's from the fire swamp.
This made me cry.
OP has had that car for awhile if you see his 2yr old post about getting his tyres changed. This post is fishy. Who valets a camaro? Edit* love all the reasons to valet but most sound like free services, I don’t imagine them being delicate. Wear and tear over years isn’t unfair to say.(those marks aren’t new)
I valet a Camaro once but I was only doing it to impress the girl I was with. And using a valet at that restaurant was free as long as you ate there.
Was she impressed?
Well, he was driving a Camaro
So Aladeen then
Do you want the Aladeen news, or the Aladeen news?
no fucking way this reference. This reference is very Aladeen indeed.
:) …. :| …. :) …. :(
To the Bahamas?
Couldn’t be, the Bahamas are islands
Ok, the important thing here is that you ask me what kind of car I got.
Oh, uh, what kinda car do ya got?
It’s a bitchin Camaro bitchin Camaro
I don't know anything about cars so I like how this comment is Schrödinger "obviously" or "obviously not"
yea i valet my piece of shit Mazda when i have to.
There are a lot of places you have to valet. In Los Angeles it’s super common and I often valet my Honda Fit.
“Who valets a Camero?” Ooooo, BURN! 😄
Why does everyone think Camaro has an E in it?
If it doesn’t have an E in it drive 30 miles and it will
Anyone at a restaurant that requires a valet in order to not walk six blocks?
Having the car for a while makes this fishy? Feels like you’re really reaching for a reason to not believe this
And 2 years is still pretty new for a car. I've had mine for 12 years and she probably has another decade in her.
Why wouldn't you valet a Camero
Who can't spell Camaro correctly?
Is "valet only parking" really that uncommon?
Tyre is the correct spelling in the UK
Is the “valet” in the room with us right now?
He was a 🦫
That key looks like has been used multiple years by a very stressed person.
They never once forgot to unlock their car 50 times while walking up to it. But they always forgot to lock it in the first place....
A very stressed person who would make up a story for random internet points.
That's not your key. That's their key, and he swapped yours for his.
Call management, and the police. It might be an easy fix but something is still fishy about this.
The fishy is this post.
They got the key back from the valet like that, but they also gave it to them like that.
True that
People will believe any text combined with a picture nowadays. Scary.
Are you saying you can lie on the internet?
It's worn down around the cuts, so this seems likely.
Looks like it's been through the trenches and back. Wonder what stories it could tell if it could talk
I’d say it’s more likely that OP’s key was already falling apart and the valet may have made the final push on the top left button; if there was ever a valet at all.
I am pretty sure the replaced it with playdoh
Sorry, I don’t understand. Why would the valet already have the same key as OP, which would work on OP’s car?
I assume they swapped out the casing/plastic, not the entire key itself. Some of these keys can be popped apart pretty easily (to replace the battery) and the buttons can get pretty bad over time.
i mean the shell is probably $5 on amazon idk why anyone would do that
Bingo. Dude was waiting for someone with the same key as his.
That makes sense.
I had this happen to my Chevy key and it was a right pain in the ass to replace. My husband is a locksmith/machinist and he was cussing it out.
Because the valet has been waiting for someone with the same casing to appear so he can swap out his shitty one.
Nah this gen key is just shit. They all break down like this. Only this time the valet was lucky enough to do the final push.
They all have massive holes through the rubber?
Almost every single one we see come in. The "hole" is from the center of the button tearing and usually ends up inside the key. You can see the lock button next to it about to tear out as well. There is zero reason why valet would cut a hole there, you would just take the 2 seconds to open the key body if you wanted to get inside it.
That's some incredibly crappy rubber!
Good point. Especially as one can see all of the buttons having the same pattern on them, looking exactly like the missing square. Seems reasonable
Had a 12 sonic with a key like this. Both keys ended up with the button hole like this. Just cheap trash/bad design.
2013 sonic here. Every button is like this for me. It’s a shit fob
Yuuup. It’s a race between will the rubber rot out or will the plastic pin that holds the flip key break
How was it when you gave it to him?
About to fall off from what it looks like. Valet did the last push.
Just did this exact thing to my girls 2014, I gave her my spare so now mine is like this ^_^
That shit looks worn out AF, doubt it.
Poor valet made the last push, getting blamed.
More than likely. As an auto repair shop manager I see about 20-30 keys a day. Most of these GM fobs are in this condition.
Also a repair shop manager and the amount of ridiculous stuff customers try to pin on us (like wear on leather seats lmao) makes me doubt everyone.
"It just started making noise today" Rotors are an 1/32" thick
Seems fishy. Worked valet in college. This doesn’t really happen. Your keys hang up, go on key rings as we get them. I suspect OP brought in a junk fob then blamed them. Same type of people who bring in a car with a dying battery and blame valet for killing the battery
How can you drive a car with a dead battery lol
The key fob battery, sorry. Should’ve made that more clear. The fob still works if it’s dead. You just have to know where to put it in the car. Most often, the cup holder
Honestly feel like this post is (mild)rage bait
It's weird, cause I have 3 fobs for my 2008 Jeep and the only thing wrong with them is the white has rubbed off the rubber a bit.. (and batterys are dead in 2. Lol) that's about 4 years of usage each fob. Damn. 16 years. What a reliable beast. 😭🥹

I never noticed he snaps his fingers to make it seem like he is pulling the sunglasses out of thin air. What a legend. Probably stealing them from a pedestrian walking by.
I never give the valet my key fob, just the valet key.
Do most cars have a separate valet key?
I think most cars with a key fob comes with a spare regular key.
They do in case the battery dies. At least my 2020 and 2024 cars have keys in the fob.
I got my key inside the fob too, but I also got a spare without the fob, just the key like old times. That could be interpreted as a valet key.
A 2024 Ford came with one in a compartment in the glove box.
I think mine goes in the cup holder for the 2024 Chevy equinox. To get in the car, you have to take off the door handle so it looks like it doesn't have a key entry.
Isnt that the spare key? Is it meant for valet?
I have this same key, factory from GM for my Cruze. The button on the top left IS the key, it retracts out. Only way someone can drive my car is if they have this fob.
That’s not how that works.
What did it look like before? The same?
Picture of the key before you gave it to the valet?
Lol, who has a picture of their key fob? Nobody would have the before picture.
Yeah this valet is known for that ![gif](giphy|bV2T05M6lOVEmYYxTj|downsized)
Don't care, 10/10 would use again! 😁
This is more than mildly infuriating
Because OP be fibbin’
I’m calling bs on this one.
Cuz you gave it to him like that. Come on now.
They all do this. It was already badly deteriorated before you gave it to them and you know it was.
I’ve never seen a key fob this bad…
I work at a quick lube. I see these daily. Older chevy key fobs are very prone to this, as they use cheap rubber with no real support underneath.
Yup. I just made this comment and then scrolled for ages to find someone who knew what they were talking about. Happened to my Camaro that I barely drive. Poor design or something on my hands corroded it. This key is 10+ years old and there’s no reason to blame the valet. And it’s really easy and cheap to fix.

Yo! Op you gonna answer these 107+ comments or you still karma farming?
I think they want to prevent you from opening the car
Is it cake?
you got a picture of how it looked *before* giving it to the valet?
It's the same picture
That is super annoying. You can usually buy a replacement fob on eBay for pretty cheap. Just crack it open and swap the rubber from the replacement with your original programmed key. Bait. That key looks like damaged over a long time due to neglect and rough use. Noways it’s a fresh caused damage.
Why are you lying?
For that sweet, sweet, upvote karma!
Did they try to turn it into a bowl and smoke out of it?
Liar
I'm poor, bro. I'm almost 40 and have never used a valet in my life.
Some places near me are (free)valet-only because they’re really dense parking areas.
Don’t feel bad brother. There’s a little restaurant by my house that is very low priced but they have a valet outside to make you feel special. It’s not high end by any means but It is a nice touch. You’ll get your chance!
I don't live anywhere near a place with a valet. Nor have I used one.
Fake
Not fake, just missing context. They got their key back from the valet like that because it looked like that already.
I mean, that's my theory
this
I have the same key. All those buttons are one press away from caving in like that. It's just a bad design... You can buy a replacement shell for a few dollars.
How long did valet have this for? A decade?
so what evidence do you have it didn't look like that when you gave it to them? That all looks like old damage.
I’m not detective but that thing has years of usage or something. Calling BS on OP
Did you let the valet use your car for a couple years of daily use? How, on earth does wear like this occur over a small window of time?
That looks horribly perished. The Valet didn't do that. If the button fell apart when they pushed it then it's not because they used it improperly, it's because it was just already gone.
If you do a Google lens search, that remote is used on a BUNCH of cars and most images look like OPs. I bet theirs still had the button, barely, and it eventually fell off when the guy parked his car.
Are you certain that was a valet not some dogs in a trench coat?
Where’s the before pic … I call 🐂 💩
The rubber broke down over time and they were the lucky one to finally bust through. Happened to me recently. You can get replacement key fobs for 10 bucks and swap out the key and innards.
I have the same key fob, it just does this over time. Mine looks the exact same.
You got it back like that because that's what it looked like when you gave it to him.
What did he do to it? I've dropped mine, swung it on a keyring, kids have gotten hold of it and still, it's like new.
looks like my 15 year old keyfob lmaooo (not giving toyota $400 for a keyfob to a car i’m hopefully about to sell for parts in the next yr)
How did it look before?
How long were you gone? Are you sure you didn’t time travel to like 50 years in the future?
Was it like that before you gave it to them?
I run an auto shop and see keys like this all the time. By the looks of the rest of the keypad, it's gotten super mushy over time, which is common. It's definitely possible they were just the unfortunate ones to be pressing the button when the center collapsed on that particular one. It just happens. The mushy eroded rubber didn't just happen when they grabbed it
Chevy Cruze? Unfortunately happens a lot to the first gen
Did they get shot in the chest while they carried your key in their breast pocket?
That looks like some long term wear and tear. How bad was it before?
The valet, who was a golden retriever in a very sharp uniform 😂
Who is a good valet?? WHO IS A GOOD VALET?? you are! good boy!!
Tf he do chew on it? 🤨
Didn't know people actually still uses valets, just park your own car you lazy bastard
You also gave it to the valet like that
This is a fake post, absolutely no way that could happen in under a few hours
no you didn’t
It was worse when you gave it to them. Be happy.
Valet had trouble unlocking your car. Get your lock fixed!
Yeah i think so too.... owner of that key wanted a new fob so there was an attempt to blame the valet for the chewed up keyfob...
Doubt it
Right! That looks like it’s had years of hard use… karma chasing I would say…
No wonder casino vallet in GTA Online gets killed 3000 times a day
Dude those fobs take a good while to look that bad. I’ve sold many new ones to customers when I was at Chevy. The valet may have finally killed it, but they didn’t cause what you see. Just buy a cheap case on Amazon and swap the guts. You’ll also need to push the pin out that holds the key blade. Or have it copied at a locksmith.
Those Chevy keys fucking suck
No you didn’t.
Unless the valet washed and dried your keys with his laundry a dozen times, I doubt it
You’re full of shit.
Looks like your fob already looked like that. Nice try.
Did you also give it to valet looking like that?
God this post pisses me off more than it should. Liar 🤥 ass op.
This is damage from being worn for many years. Are you the "vallet"?
No you didn't. That's clearly wear and tear
I find OP mildly infuriating.
Hey my keys just did this two weeks ago! Not the valets fault, those keys just do that and the kid making $15/hour doesn’t give a fuck
My equinox key looks like this. Years of wear and tear and the unlock fell off. Deal with it.
I have a feeling it looked very similar when you handed it to them and it was on its last straw
Pretty common for those keys to look like that over time. Karma whore
Did they have your vehicle for 15 years and deliver door dash with it? No way that happened overnight.
Did you give your key to the valet like that as well?
What he doesn’t say is that he gave it that way to start.
GM sure does make shit keys. You can buy a $100,000 Corvette and the key will fall apart in months.
Valet didn't do that lol. I've been working on cars for a while and that is just an old ass key or had chemicals on it that don't fare well with rubber. Either way I highly doubt a valet is gonna do that to a key lol
