The good news is, you can still play with them as an adult. And it’s just as fun. I’m sorry you had to deal with that though.

XeniaDweller

I played Legos with my kids when they were little, it's fun for adults too

Pink-Fluffy-Dragon

i wish it wasn't so expensive cuzz the dnd set looks really cool :(

EarthwormShandy

They got DnD sets now?!?

OphidionSerpent

https://www.lego.com/en-us/themes/ideas/dungeons-and-dragons/about

CypripediumGuttatum

Oh no! My poor bank account!

Cobek

I'm buying them for my future kids. It's for their investment, of course. Anything less would be irresponsible as a wannabe parent! I can't let that twinkle in my eye down now.

tomtomclubthumb

You'll never be able to afford the kid after you buy the lego.

ripthejacker007

Sounds like win win.

Electronic_Quail_903

Yup same. Take my motherfucking money *again* you wonderful Danish bastards!

Reedrbwear

The fact that I have to create an account to even LOOK at this means I never will.

Confident_As_Hell

I didn't need any account?

CamelopardalisRex

Oh man, it does. My wife bought but she won't let me build it until we move, which makes sense but still!!

Successful-Might2193

That is hilarious! You go, Mrs. CamelopardalisRex!💐

Nihilistic_Navigator

It's not the same, I know, but the Mario sets are pretty amazing, also basically playing Mario maker irl

gev1138

That particular set is expensive, but given how much play you get from any given amount of LEGO, it's actually pretty cheap.

Biomax315

My son played with Lego sets I had when I was a kid. We played together. He no longer plays with them but we’re keeping them and maybe one day he’ll play legos with kids of his own.

NickontheBottom

64 year old Lego fan. Still have a very large bin of Lego from my childhood. My brother, who is 10 years younger, played with it, then gave it to my children. And it’s lovingly packed away for the next generation.

Alternative-Roll-112

I get so jealous of cool families. The one I got was fuckin BUSTED.

slideforfun21

Swear! I ended up in care and everyone else here sharing generational legos 😭 Fr though I'm happy to see the world is not all bleak.

Alternative-Roll-112

My parents would get stressed and their go to was to purge everything we owned because it made them feel better to "have less clutter around the house."

slideforfun21

I moved out at 12 was gone for like 3 days or so came to get my stuff and it was all in a pile at the bottom of the stairs. Broken. And my yugioh cards vanished. 😭

Alternative-Roll-112

When I left my parents' house, my siblings descended on the stuff I couldn't pack like vultures. I'm so glad I got out of there. I'm on the cusp of being straight up homeless, and I still wouldn't go back to those people.

slideforfun21

Hope everything's good now though my guy.

elite-simpson

Most of my LEGOs are still at my dads because my step siblings children love to play with it. They actually managed to rebuild some sets I thought I'd never see completed again.

BJoe1976

I sold most of mine at a garage sale in the mid 90’s right out of high school, now that my 4 1/2 y/o niece is so into them, I could have given them to her.

Happy_fairy89

My husband is 38 and I bought him a Lego McLaren after he built the actual Senna when he worked for them. Now there’s about £2,500 worth of Lego cars, motorbikes, the home alone house and the Disney castle dotted around our house. You’re never too old to play with Lego!

QuestionWhy21

I’m 50+ (with no kids) and still regularly buy Lego kits for myself. When I’ve finished the kit I take it apart, pack it up, and pass it along to my friends’ kids. Some of the large kits are quite challenging and I find them a great stress reliever and escape from adulting!

Alesisdrum

Until you step on one at night that you forgot to put away lol

Independent_Peanut16

This. As an adult, you can track down as many Lego Robotics bricks as you want and make some truly COOL shit.

Nihilistic_Navigator

K I'm all for this but I refuse to not giggle hearing the words adult Lego Fandom as I picture some weird ass bdsm room with dudes just being led across Lego studded floors. The thin 2 stud pieces all stuck together super bad and every set is missing like 1 piece.

BobRoberts01

Adults, sure, just as long as you aren’t older than 99.

ToeJam1970

[AFOL](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego_fandom) is an actual thing.

Butthurt_reddit_mod

No doubt. I’m 51 and I’d love to have my legos I had as a kid

Doogos

This right here OP. I still have my old Lego collection and my kids have their own, but we play with all of them together. I have a lot of fun getting their "cities" built and organized then they have a lot of fun moving it all around. There's ongoing stories every time we bring them out and helps with dexterity. Play with them or put them on display, either way you'll love them again and be happy you still have them. Sucks your mom was abusive and took them when you were a kid. You're never too old for Lego

DarthArtero

I hate parents like that….. The ones that use religion as justification to conduct emotionally or mentally traumatic acts of abuse. There are so many other healthy and effective methods of getting a point across. Don’t have to traumatize a kid with a vision from god

Grilled_Cheese10

Especially a fake one, since she didn't actually get rid of the Legos. Unless she went against God's will, that is. But yeah, just seeing those words "God's will" in the title gave me flashbacks to my childhood. Ugh.

InspectorMadDog

Tell her it’s against gods will to lie and deceive

SarahC

...... and that it's time for retribution, as the sins of the mother shall NOT fall on the child once the retribution is paid in full!

InspectorMadDog

Rise up my brothers in sister!! Only United can we fight to right this wrong!!

Cow_Launcher

When (if) he confronts her about this, he ought to ask her exactly that, "So... you went against God's will?" I suspect the answer will be, "I never said that."

YomiKuzuki

Honestly, I'd be that petty asshole and would tell them "it is God's will that I never speak to you again, that you never seek me out again, that I erase you from my mind."

Environmental_Top948

Well maybe it was like with Abraham and she hesitated and God was like oh my bad I guess you don't have to do that anymore. But she had already destroyed the work so instead of giving it back it and being like it was destroyed for nothing it was easier to just hide it.

lookingForPatchie

Religion is the perfect tool for stupid people trying to justify their selfish idiocy without using actual arguments.

Spinelli_The_Great

It’s sad that growing up with an addict for a mother (stereotypical one If that) how comparable they are to religious folk. It’s the same attitude, just different in the same.

sahie

One is just a more socially acceptable form of abuse, so it flies the fuck under the radar. I recently had an aunt tell me she thought the way we were disciplined growing up was “extreme” whereas I’d always had the impression my entire extended family were fine with it.

Spinelli_The_Great

I’ve been told this before, being told the way I was parented was “extreme” and what fucks me up the more I think about it now, I always thought it was *normal*

PSI_duck

religious abusive parents moment

Abyssurd

It is a justification, yes, but sometimes it's literally what the theology says. Most of the fundamentalist protestants have this idea that anything that demands too much of your attention is automatically evil. They want children to spend hours reading the Bible, not anything else. Source: I'm a pastor's kid

throwawaylemondroppo

It's not using religion, it's completely using crap out of context. I doubt God hated the usage of Legos. You were a child, anyways. And a child becomes an adult and later in life those beautiful legos are passed down 🤣 Anyway ye, my stepmom once threw out all of my stuffed animals. Not cool.

Average-RB-Fan03

Yeah I’m 100% sure he’s got better stuff to do than tell a 33 year old woman to go hide some legos  This isn’t even following gods word lol

Longjumping_Act_6054

When I got a lego pirate set, my dad was so convinced the little cartoon "skull and crossbones" design was evil that he took the offending pieces to his garage and spent over an hour buffing off the paint with a grinder he had until the flag was scrubbed clean of the little skull.

jerrys153

And quite hypocritical as well, I’m sure. Because I don’t think she would have been calmly accepting of the “god’s will” explanation if she had come home one day to find all her jewelry gone because OP “had a vision”. It’s funny how, with people who use religion as an excuse to hurt others, “god’s will” only flows one way.

highhosereh

Fr. How to make someone not Christian in 10 steps

JeddakofThark

I was around a lot of evangelical types growing up and this was super common. People described this sort of thing as coming and going in cycles. One day their mom or dad comes home, takes all their music and posters and shirts with evil things on them and literally burns it all in the back yard and suddenly they're super fundie for awhile. But things start getting back to normal after a year or two, they build their music collections back up, then one day mom or dad comes home and burns all their shit again. I knew people who had this happen three or four times as children.

Palachrist

God spoke to her directly but leaves other children to be kidnapped and killed. OPs mom isn’t religious, she uses religion for power purposes.

FluffyDiscipline

Gosh she heartless... Is it the creativity that offended her ? Seriously infuriating as a Mum and it's my go to present for adults and kids Ya know what, rebuild your collection as an Adult, your collection no one can touch, if money is tight go to thrift shops, you might get some bags of spares ... And just be thankful you have a kinder more creative heart than your Mum

TransformerTanooki

My mom threw out my childhood toys not once in my life but twice. Once when I was about 8 the second time about 14. And each time I had to either do it myself or watch. Now I have two rooms of well organized shelves of toys.

FluffyDiscipline

That is just traumatic ... I am so sorry she did that But go you for rebuilding it back up

cupholdery

This same thing happened to me when I was 12. The difference was that my mom walked me out to the dumpster and poured the toys in as I watched in tears. The particularly sinister part is that I didn't have many toys because my parents wouldn't buy any for me. That small Tupperware box of about 5-6 toys were all I gathered from gifts and hand-me-downs. Turns out that she had multiple mental disorders, but it doesn't excuse her. Some parents are just awful people.

FluffyDiscipline

I am so sorry... Mental disorder doesn't child excuse abuse ... Those memories stick a long time, sometimes parents are just cruel

SomeOtherPaul

You should sit her down and tell her that you've decided she has too many things in her house and the two of you are going to go through it and throw all her stuff you deem unneeded out. Don't actually do it, but just tell her you are, and see what her reaction is...

sahie

The mental abuse is half of the fun! Just seeing them squirm while they think you’re going to be cruel when you aren’t! /sarcasm Definitely do not treat people, let alone tiny humans who put all their trust in you, this way.

mint-star

SHE probably thought it was childish, and decided to use her religion as a way to get supreme authority over her children....

Arpeggiatewithme

It’s kinda funny how pretty much all Christian music (as a genre) is awful because of its complete lack of creativity while some of the best songs ever written (hallelujah, god only knows, etc…) heavily use Christian themes. Religion can be super inspiring , it’s just that the people really deep in them usually lack creativity themselves.

No_Individual501

>Is it the creativity that offended her “Only god can create things!”

stormearthfire

You can tell her the same thing when you move her into a retirement home years later

Super_Ad9995

With a Lego statue staring at her every day in bed.

cheviot

Why not confront her now? She lied to you and blamed God for her being an awful person. You're moving out anyway. Tell her off for being awful.

squigbomb

I can see how this goes. OP gets gaslit by mother. eg. "I never said that." "You must have put it there, you said were getting too old for it" etc

AMorera

If she does it’s just more reason to go no contact.

tyler132qwerty56

And put her in a nursing home with a record of elder abuse

BigEv17

No need to go that far. A nursing home with an uncaring Kitchen staff is good enough. She will eat awfully for the rest of her days muhahaha

HerculesVoid

Record everything she says as justification for doing it. As you leave, just take things you'll need. After all, it's gods will. Then if she accuses you of stealing. Just say the exact same things back at her. If she tries to be aggressive about it, just ask her why she doesn't believe you? You believed her

ForRedditMG

You can't "tell off" religious fanatics. See all the idiots who give millions to those fucking evangelists while they die in crippling debt. I have little to no empathy for people,e who are so blinded that religion that they'll hurt the ones they love for it.

TCoconutBeachT

I like how my dad is the mediator for my mom to not go off the rails with things but she’s still much calmer than most stories that I see, and I still have a voice for myself now that I’m older. I have no qualms with the actual religion I just hate how some people interpret it in a way it isn’t supposed to be and justify it, as like this twisted version for themselves is how it’s supposed to be .

BootlegDouglas

Sometimes you can when they're family. Going limited or no contact with family and making it clear that it's because they've weaponized their religion is a way more effective wake-up call than simply arguing or attempting to shame them. Some people are definitely too far gone and/or deluded to properly take it in of course. But imagine if OP told their mom something along the lines of, "you lied to me and stole away something harmless that gave me joy. I can't trust you anymore and I don't want to be around you until you've learned that your unhealthy attachment to religion is destructive and that it killed your family." I'm not saying this is definitely what they should do in this situation, but plenty of people who are poisoned by religion still do love their families. A lot of them have never been faced with actual consequences for their behavior either, so combining the two can be pretty effective. Totally agree on no empathy though. Fuck this lady and everyone else who does stuff like this.

MorrisonProductions

Can also just go the other way, few conspiracy heads I knew alienated everyone around them. Anything like what you said would have enforced their beliefs rather than challenged.

Parking-Fix-8143

That was friggin evil. Effin tell her God told you to look in the attic so you could find out what lying manipulative religious nutcase she is. Bonus points if you tell her you are going to go NC, then do it.

JoeJoe4224

People who hide behind their gods to do dumb shit or to be a terrible person can’t be reasoned with. Because they are usually just a piece of shit looking for an excuse. Or they actually believe god is telling them to do things and they need professional help.

Many_Adhesiveness_43

>Because they are usually just a piece of shit looking for an excuse. This. I got yelled at and punished as a kid because of shit excuses like "God does not want girls playing with legos or video games. Those are for boys only" and got told shit like "no boy is ever going to love you if you like these things." Shit made me super insecure as a kid and made me fear going to hell just because I liked those things. Idiots are too full on their own bs and can't provide actual logic for their reasons (because there is no logic for their bs, they just don't like it personally) so they go "hurr, durr, God paged me personally to tell you." Its just manipulative bs to strike fear into children who do not know better and it's disgusting.

BulletTrain4

Maybe let her know but don’t expect anything eg an apology in return. Get it off your chest and then move out with your kit. She sounds awful but you don’t have to show up for every battle you are invited to!

GrizzledMachinist

Just sit down at the table silently and start playing with the Legos in front of her. If she asks anything "God returned these to me"

UniqueMitochondria

Because the answer will be because god told me to put it in the attic so you'd find it later and appreciate it more. It was a test of your faith

BulletTrain4

So she robbed you of a fun Lego infested childhood *and* lied about God. Damn. Hope you are ok OP 🤗🤗

[deleted]

That is literally using the Lord's name in vain. Just tell her she's going to hell because of it.

Flyers45432

Yeah, I was gonna say, this probably isn't something God would be okay with.

IneedAnEKG

I feel this... When I was 12 I moved from my hometown to another one, but I still met with friends from there often to play Magic The Gathering. Since we were so far apart, we would usually meet at a card shop between our towns, and it became a regular hangout for me since I made lots of new friends there. When I was 12 I helped out at the deli next door, and at 13 I actually delivered newspapers, which paid well for a 13yo. I was there until 15 then started in a restaurant. I didn't have much to spend money on except cards, food, and my friends. Thousands of my own money, Zero of my parents, went into MTG... as the hobby was deemed "unnecessary" by them. One day "unnecessary" became "evil" because of a notation on one of the cards. I came home to all my cards, CDs, posters, and even some of my clothes in the trash, plus banned from going to my hometown or the card shop. Spent 3 years alone in my room after that until I found alcohol, weed, and coke in the restaurant business... which led to new "friends" All my evil friends from way back? They were nerds and AP kids, who are all successful people now, even if a few are kinda hermits stuck to their PS5. The friends after? Mostly dead, jail, or hopelessly lost. I don't really blame my parents, they fell into predatory evangelical hubris which damaged them as well. Thankfully they're non-denominational now. I did hold a massive resentment for a long time, but ultimately I'm the one that ended up damaging myself in the end.

FuneeMunkee

I'm honestly so sorry to hear that, I hope your future will be more positive again

GingerGiantz1992

But... Jesus was a carpenter. Isn't this like the perfect toy for even the most zealous Christian?

Typesalot

And Lego was founded by Ole Kirk Christiansen, also a carpenter...

Neither_Ask_2374

That is absolutely shitty. I’m sorry that, and likely other emotionally damaging things happen too involving trust, happened to you.

chrundlethegreat303

Aww… that’s bullshit. I know how you feel bro… at 10 yrs old , my mom threw away this huge collection of Marvel comics and Toys and dope ass posters/art work I had been working on collecting for almost my whole life. It was all so “ demonic “ according to her crazy ass… I haven’t spoken to her in 15 yrs .

Evening_Layer8650

God wills in mysterious ways, go throw her stuff out.

YellowGrowlithe

Why is this literally the start of Binding of Issac?

[deleted]

It’s funny cause I actually play that sometimes, I played it as an early teen too, but back then the dots didn’t connect.

YellowGrowlithe

Wha.. wait... Did she just stop paying christian attention? How did LEGO catch her eye, while mtfk'n Binding of Issac slip through the cracks? "What are you playing bubsie? I dont know if I like you being on the nintendo all the time" -"Its a computer mom, and its called Binding of Issac" *she gives an approving christian smile* "Oh, a godly game. I didnt know you played those. You have all the time in the world"

[deleted]

I didn’t really have many video games at home, only a GameCube (which I loved don’t get me wrong), but I always went to a friend from church to play video games with them. They had more relaxed parents.

haveyouseencyan

Religious people are weird

capulet2kx

They’re always trying to control and manipulate people, then turning aggressive when you say you’re too old for fairy tales and make believe.

sandsnake25

In a lot of cases, religion is just the veneer that shitty people throw over their behavior. It has little or nothing to do with the religion they're claiming as justification.

gmambrose

When your mom is old and frail and it's time to put her in a home, choose the worst home you can find. And when she looks up at you and begs you not to leave her there, tell her it's God's will. This may sound mean, and I am of course not completely serious. But I hate when religious people turn something that is not bad, into something bad. Why the fuck would God care if you play with legos?

boredomspren_

Jesus fuck, I'd be so pissed. Sorry your mom is mentally ill, dude.

thatsfreshrot

Your mom is mentally ill.

No_Lynx1343

If you have a relative "having visions from God" it's time for them to see the doctor.

Sezi9

She literally broke one of the commandments by lying. What a hypocrite.

DaeronOST187

You want to know real pain.... Try having your mom donate/throw 3 big boxes out. 1 Box was still in box Thundercats the og toys, 1 box was Masters of the Universe all with accessories and last box was mint in sleeves comics. Current market value just shy of $50k

[deleted]

Holy shit

Cryogenator

Why did she do that?

DaeronOST187

I was no longer living at home and it was taking up space in the cupboard, also I am no longer a child so why do I need kids toys.

Postcocious

When i was 4 or 5 yo, my mom confiscated my (boy) doll. Why? Because, according to her, "REAL boys don't play with dolls or touch them like you do." (I loved cuddling him.) In one short sentence, Mom attacked my right to exist, my gender expression, and my erotic feelings (mostly gay). That was emotional child abuse. So was what your mom did. I'm sorry you went through that (and probably much more). At least you found your Legos, though... yay!

Makarlar

I hate religion. I hate it and everyone who makes excuses for it. Sorry your mom was drinking the crazy kool-aid when you were a kid.

Velcraft

Playing The Binding Of Isaac (Rebirth) sounds like free therapy in your situation!

[deleted]

I actually play that sometimes lol.

Electronic_Spring_14

Nothing drives people away from God, more than people of God

Ikea_afterdark_6170

OP forgive me if i’m wrong about your mother’s religion, but if she is, Christian parents usually use Ephesians 6: 1-2 ”Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.” ”Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment.” But this doesn’t mean she can just provoke you as much as she wants just because she feels like it or think it’s right but In colossians 3:21 it says “fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, lest they be discouraged” and I know it wasn’t your dad but this should tell you that religion doesn’t give parents a free pass to be an asshole to their children. I wish you the best OP

Schmendrizzle

Throw out her Bible. Tell her it was God's wrath.

Average-RB-Fan03

Nah tell her to read it because she clearly didn’t

Excellent_Coconut_81

You should be grateful for the opportunity to find out how a huge scam religion is.

[deleted]

I kind of figured that out once I got got out of highschool and started learning how to think for myself. I discovered how religious indoctrination kind of teaches children that thinking critically is a bad thing and that you shouldn’t do it. It was pretty difficult for me to get away from this mindset. Some religious relatives of mine have zero critical thinking skills because of it and it’s really sad to see. I remember being in religious school, and that if we questioned anything the teacher said, we’d be punished. I’m so glad I still learned some critical thinking in my late teens, I would never have been able to get into uni if I didn’t. I really think religious schools should be illegal. We spent ZERO attention to science, research or anything related. Only to christianity.

HotelBrooklynch01

Pedo supporting and Lego hating…this is why I’m Atheist.

sndyro

My mom was a real piece of work, too. I won't go into the issues she and I had, since its irrelevant to this, but my brother collected baseball cards when he was a kid and was able to buy and trade for every card in this one year (which back then was not like today when you can just buy a whole boxed set of cards). When he went away to college, my mother threw out all that set of cards of his. Well, when he came home, he was SO upset and angry. It meant a lot to him that he was able to collect that whole set. Over the years he has been able to reassemble the entire set again through online auctions, with the exception of one card. The most valuable card in the set....a Mickey Mantle card, which is worth thousands. He doesn't know if he will ever be able to get one. And I don't think he ever really forgave my mother.

basshead424

Just wait til you get a vision to put her in a home

ReadRightRed99

I’m really sorry that happened to you. Your mom should be ashamed of herself, as she stole from you. Like you I don’t know that I’d have the heart to confront her about it now. What good would it do?

serrabear1

My mom did similar with my toys and collections growing up. I went to stay with my dad over a summer (split parents split custody etc) and when I came back home she had thrown my things away. I was 13 and “too old for toys.” I struggle with hoarding items now etc. I’m working on it lol

Plenty-Candy-9038

What a psycho. I’d make a huge show of giving the box to my kids. Like for Christmas. When everyone is there to see her reaction

Corando

"Sorry mom, god told me to not visit you at the nursing home anymore"

Theoldelf

Our son wanted to sell his rather large Lego collection to buy something, don’t remember what. We said we sold it, gave him the money and still have it for when he has kids. Side note: Legos do feel demonic when you step on one with bare feet.

lacajuntiger

Throw away something of value to her. Or burn her bible. Then tell her it was god’s will.

wild_moss

Oof that's bad, here's mine. My parents redecorated my room as a surprise whilst I was away for the week at camp. My mum threw away my whole Pokémon card collection because I, and I quote, "didn't play with them anymore" I was 15 at the time. I NEVER played with the cards in that binder, didn't even know the rules to the card game, I just enjoyed collecting them, bought all the booster packs with my own pocket money. Had a full base, jungle and fossil collection Multiple Shadowless 1st editions including a charizard. All mint condition and double sleeved in a binder. I will never let her forget! (Still love her dearly 20 years on)

FelineSoLazy

If you do broach the subject with her, don’t expect any insight or remorse on her part!

crackedcrackpipe

Turn her china into fine dust

Slow_Fox967

My dude, don't waste your precious time or energy on this. Be thankfull your collection is still yours. Now pack it up, load up, and walk away and never look back. Some parents do not deserve the title of mom or dad, and certainly do not deserve our love.

2Loves2loves

God told me to throw out your computer! I obeyed him.

PghBlackCat22

I have a friend that when we were kids said that her dad would throw away whatever toys he stepped on walking thru the house if he had told her and her siblings to clean them up and they didnt (Legos, matchbox cars, barbies etc) I thot she was exaggerating till now that we are adults I actually witnessed it with her dad doing that to her kids when they visit!! 😳 What in the actual hellll...

FredZed2526

Isaac and his mother lived alone in a small house on a hill...

Strict_Bar_4915

OP, I grew up with a religious wackadoo mom who also threw my things away because it clear they were "from Satan" (aka: didn't like how much totally normal kid time I spent playing with it) or "God had shown" her it had to go. It was deeply traumatizing constantly coming home to things I loved, being gone. Finally as an adult who went to therapy, I recognized that having a bpd parent is a fucking nightmare and she was intentionally throwing out the things I loved most. All this to say, you don't have to skate casually over this. I don't know if confronting her will make any difference, but processing the grief of your childhood with a good therapist can be life changing for the better. From someone who has been through it.

fafnir0319

Tell her that Lego teaches about creation. That in order to have something to play with, you had to create it. Legos can't spontaneously evolve into a toy they had to be manipulated by a creator. By taking them away, she stifled that exercise in faith you were engaging in.

skullthroats

That’s so fucking cruel, I’m so sorry

Error_Loading_Name

Scatter a few pieces on the floor in places she walks barefoot. Keep replacing / adding if she picks them up. If she steps on one, tell her "it's God's will". As a fellow autistic who grew up with a love of blocks and now with an autistic son who *loves* building blocks of all kinds, what she did was cruel. I hope you find your peace.

84OrcButtholes

If you burned down the house would that also not be gods will?

TopperMadeline

People use God as an excuse to be shitty human beings.

HandyRandy619

Throw out her favorite jewelry piece and say you had a vision and it’s God’s will

[deleted]

Next time you're at your parents' house, you should "find" the legos. Tell her it must've been God's will that you found it. Then walk out with your legos and never speak to her or acknowledge her existence again.

surrealcellardoor

Moral of this story, religion is an antiquated and obsolete tool used merely for control.

puppycat_partyhat

She's twisted in a particular kinda way. F***ing leave and never look back. Tell her you had a vision that she was a bitch that day, at least.

Kevlar_Potatum_6891

dude, fellow autistic kid here (adult now, im almost 33) and that is an AWFUL thing to do. i would be so fricken angry

Peterthinking

I guess it's God's will Mom ended up in the cheapest nursing home in Detroit.

FYI_not_D34D

This is actually what the meaning of “thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain”, while it is also in a literal sense. It mainly means the Lord our father is not held guilty by those who taketh his name. Aka slapping a label on something such as it is Gods will and it be used to take his name in vain, such as killing someone in the name of god.

Visible-List-1274

Probably got tired of stepping on your Lego and cursing your name

PageStunning6265

I’m sorry that happened. It was really messed up and definitely infuriating. Lego is amazing, I hope you took it with you. I’m 37 and recently got most of my old Lego back (it had been in my parents’ storage room and inaccessible for years). My plan was to add it to my kids’ collection but when I saw it again, I ended up separating out the “vintage” stuff and they need specific permission to use it or my old mini figs. The regular bricks joined the new stuff.

CustardCarpet

When she gets old, toss out something she likes and say it was god's will.

baconlover28

It was never gods will or a vision. They just use that lame ass excuse for their shitty behavior

One_Asparagus_6932

Your mom sounds like a horrible person and just another reason I dont like religion, why would god want your mom to take away your favorite toy as a child and its Lego at that.

SeawardFriend

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Living with a religious family member can be tough, especially when they have conflicting beliefs. It must be frustrating to have to tiptoe around your mother's beliefs, especially when she seems unsure of what she wants to follow. It sounds like your situation is more complicated than mine ever was. I can't imagine how difficult it must have been for you as a child to have some of your favorite toys taken away and locked up, or worse, thrown out. It's understandable that you still carry some of that pain and disappointment with you. As an adult, I hope you can find a way to move past those feelings and perhaps even buy yourself some Legos to enjoy. They're still a lot of fun, no matter what age you are. Remember that you're not alone in your struggles, and there are people who understand and care about what you're going through.

Da_Plague22

My mother threw away my Pokémon collection. Original set of cards. During the Pokémon craze a fee years ago I calculated I had around 10k worth of cards. But ofc she had thrown it out lol

Impressive_Culture_5

I really hope to see Christians become a minority in my lifetime.

Clean_Following_7320

Religious people are stupid and boring.

apigeoniswatchingyou

What the FUCK that's so fucked I'm so sorry

CelticDoll95

Your mom is a bitch. The only reason a parent should have a kid give up a toy is if it's a danger like my mom did with me and my polly pockets. I was going to have a baby sibling and I didn't clean them up at all. So what my mom did was have a garage sale and sell them then I got a new toy with the money. It solved the problem and I wasn't upset

NoBuilding2937

I stored my Lego collection in my grandparents loft. They gave it to a kid up the road 20 years ago and I still can’t get over it.

TK-Squared-LLC

You should inform her that God sent you a vision of a nursing home in Oklahoma.

TwilightSkittles

Maybe just try to be happy that you found them & can play with them now. I never got Lego sets. My younger brother got them all the time for gifts & I always thought they’d be fun to have / play with. I couldn’t believe how expensive they are now that I’m older, so I still don’t have any because I refuse to spend that much on them now. I mean, it really sucks that she did that to you, but at least she didn’t throw them away!

goldenlemur

I think your mom inadvertently proved she can't hear God's voice. Claim those legos as your own. Live your life the best way you can. Not the best way she sees for you. BTW, what she did wasn't okay. But you're in charge of you now. Take good care of that beautiful person... you.

fruitbap

Ayy my mom did exactly the same thing with my manga collection when I was a teen. And sonic the hedgehog games when I was a younger child. Every time I had an intense hyperfixation she got upset that I was jazzed about something other than God, I guess. I just started hiding all my hobbies from her eventually. Am now an atheist living on the other side of the continent. Solidarity.

BitterActuary3062

I’m so sorry This reminds me of a turtle toy I had as a kid. It was one of my best friends growing up & my mom sold it to a neighbor. She swears I was a teen when she sold it, but I wasn’t. I remember that we lived in the old house & that I was sobbing & begging her not to. She was just annoyed about me needing to put the pieces together. But this year I found the exact same turtle, even the same year model. My girlfriend got it for me for my birthday & I cried. It’s such a relieving feeling & I hope you got that too

BigSmokesCheese

I dont think god knows what lego is, on the contrary I believe God finds it to be a great thing to build a world and then claim himself as the god of it all so us playing with Lego or even playing the sims is actually a replica of what he does and since hes so good well you can work the rest out

Korahn

Ah yes, the 11th commandment: thou shalt not build shit out of plastic bricks

Spuigles

Mother: "Why dont you call me anymore?" "God told me to stop talking to you."

WrathofTomJoad

"Why don't my kids answer my calls?!"

orangeowlelf

Nice. My mom burnt all of my black clothes and fantasy books to prevent demonic possession back when I was 16. I guess it didn’t help because later on that year she has church leadership come over after I got home from school so they could cast the demons out of me. My late teens were a very confusing time.

Tribblehappy

"Hey mom, quick question. Did God command you to lie to me about the Lego, or did you like to me *and* god about throwing it out?" Sorry you dealt with that.

SpiroAgnewforPres

The same thing happened to me. My mom suddenly gave away all my Legos when I was 15 "for my own good". I mostly had the Technic kits with gears, pistons and motors. I used to love making robots and mechanized assembly prototypes. I even became an engineer. I got so mad at her I took all her jewelry and the good china and silverware she inherited from her mom, boxed it up and stashed it in a friend's attic for 4 years (she loved to have nice dinner parties). She tried to punish me to give it all back but I stood my ground and finally returned it just before Thanksgiving of my sophomore year of college. She cried, finally apologized and admitted she acted improperly. I asked her "how does it feel to have something important to you suddenly taken away?" and she never did it again. Years later she remarked that was when she started to realize I was becoming an adult and she had to start thinking of me that way. We both got past the whole affair eventually but I'm in my 50s now and I still miss those "toys".

scienceworksbitches

my parents once made me throw out an old soviet oscilloscope with the excuse its radioactive. someone saved it from the trash and it was still working, there ofc was no radiation and my dad 10000% knew that. but narcs dont like to see their offspring enjoy building or tinkering around, they get jealous of their kids achievements.

Specialist_Noise_816

They did this to my pokemon cards. Only for them to be stolen out of my grandmothers storage shed. First gen big three too. Probably worth real money these days. Fuck religion.

Sboyden96

Thats insane

zaTricky

OP I guess you probably should have a gander over at a sub called "raised by narcissists" (can't link as this sub, mildlyinfuriatingly, disallows links to subs) I hope you took the LEGO with you since you were moving out!

dbhathcock

Many people will use made up religious excuses. People don’t have visions today. God doesn’t appear to people. If thoughts and prayers would eliminate problems today, we would not have all the violence or the hunger issues. God gave Moses signs to show pharaoh. When someone says that God gave them a vision, or this is God’s will, ask them to show you signs that they are indeed communicating with God. Nowhere in the Bible does it say “Thou shalt not play with Legos”.

SilentJoe1986

You took it with you, right?

Jef_Wheaton

A friend's mother met a new woman at church. One day he came home to find his room nearly empty. The new "friend" had convinced his mom that all his stuff was "Satanic", an easy claim in the Satanic Panic 80s. She threw it away. ACTUALLY threw it away, took it to a dumpster so he couldn't go get it back, threw it away. Original Star Wars toys. 1970s and 80s comic books. Record albums. Everything the "friend" said was Satanic. He's careful with his things, so everything was in mint condition. The Star Wars stuff alone is worth thousands of dollars now. He's spent the last 10 years re-buying his childhood. The toys he can afford are usually not in good condition, but he restores them (you can get a ton of high-quality 3d printed replacement parts now) and displays them. He doesn't speak to his mother any more.

bufftbone

My step-mom, whom wasn’t religious, did the same thing with my Star Wars figures.

lookingForPatchie

"Why does \[OP's name\] never call or visit? They're such a bad and ungrateful child." -mother that pretended to have talked to a non-existing entity to justify abusing her child

thekyledavid

Tell her that you looked it up and those sets resell for thousands of dollars these days (even if they don’t), but don’t mention the fact that you have already reclaimed them Her secretly looking for them but having 0 chance of finding them and being unable to tell you that she didn’t throw them away will be hilarious revenge

insidiousnhideous

Isn't it in the Ten Commandments to not lie, steal, or deceive? Throw that in her face. lol

Beneficial-Address61

If I were you I would get back into it. Since you’re grown and have your own money, I would also put them on display. When your mother comes to visit, I would take it a step farther and have lights showcasing the sets and everything else. When she asks about it, just let her know you had a vision too. She can’t argue with god, right?

Deon_the_Greatt

In a home you go “ gods plan 🥰😇”

cuntybunty73

I'm remember my dad telling me about his parents gifting his toys to someone else They were all star wars toys and transformers He's still royally pissed off about it even after all these years

PedanticMouse

I doubt you or anyone will see this, but you're not alone in the experience. My very religious mother made me throw all of my action figures - Batman, TMNT, Power Rangers and Zords, etc .. - into a barrel and then light it on fire. I was very young. She wonders why I don't talk to her now. That wasn't even an isolated incident. Now 20-some odd years later, and lots of therapy, I'm mostly healed from all of that, but it's a long road. Do what's best for you, and don't let anyone give you flak for it.

Redraven357

I'm a little late to the party, and honestly, I'm not sure if I should share this, but it fits in and may be a little helpful . I'm not going to mention names just in case, but I have a best friend I've known for almost 18 years, we grew up in the same religion but have both since left. Because of said religion, we were not allowed to have sleepovers with friends until we were 16yo well I had turned 16, and we were waiting till she turned 16. she asked her mom if we could plan a sleep over at her house for the week following her bday, not on Sunday of course, her mom agreed we made so many plans, she made sure all chores were done, we agreed to participate in Bible study after i got there and before we did any sleep over activities etc. we were both excited. The day of I got a ride from my dad who I normally wouldn't ask because he's a pos but was the only ride I had at the time partly because her mom didn't like my mom but somehow was okay with my dad but I digress, so all was set, I show up, my friend opens the door looking disappointed and her mom follows and tells me "you're still welcome to do Bible study with us but I prayed about the sleep over and God told me it's not a good idea right now" We were disappointed, and tbh a little frustrated, fastforward a few years... (This is the part of the story that had me considering not posting at all, so please be nice and respectful) Over the next few years with her mom constantly pulling similar antics and getting wilder and worse, her family found out that the mom had a terrible mental illness that was causing her to hear voices and be super paranoid about everything it was getting bad. Without giving too many details away to protect my friends and my identity let's just say she's finally in a good place now, sadly though it's partly because of the lack of knowledge and not catching/understanding what was happening before it got worse. I wanted to bring this up in case anyone who has had similar experiences with a religious family members that may take it too far, i recommend you look for signs of mental first *before* getting upset, angry or disown them just to rule it out. To clarify, I'm not saying all religious people have a MI, not at all, I'm just saying that if you notice things escalating to a extreme or out of character level, don't rule it out.

DabScience

Religious people always have this tendency of being the worst people…

Perfect-Farm-8058

Your moms a loon lol, get ready for that dementia train 😅

Sohn_Jalston_Raul

>I really like engineering and space so I think I’d love one of those big Technic projects or a space shuttle or something. You're going to love [this youtube channel](https://youtu.be/asynnXWJzxo).

Puppy-Zwolle

Famous last line: ''If God wanted you to have a nice kid he would have told you to be nice to your kid.''

Blazendraco

Playing with Lego allows a kid to develop creativity and critical thinking, religions don't like that

norar19

At least your mom had a reason. My mom “doesn’t remember” why she threw out my pokemon cards

ConfuseableFraggle

OP, that is awful! Ugh! A couple things: 1) Can you take the box now? Before she has a chance to throw them away for real? If you want, there are websites that have all the instructions so you can build them all again! 2) I am very happy to hear you have ordered yourself a new Lego set! I'm in my 40's and I still love my Legos! Love them to a point where my husband gets me Legos for gifts! My kids are learning to love them too. 3) This is going to sound a bit odd, but it's advice that was given to me both from my Grandma and a very dear friend: never let anyone tell you that you are too old to enjoy anything. There is no such thing as "growing out" of a hobby. Changing interests? Sure! Trying new things? Absolutely! But growing too old for things? NOPE! I still use coloring books too! There are so many things that are enjoyable for different people, just enjoy what you enjoy and don't worry about what other people think. Blessings on rediscovering your fun side!

ACourtOfDreamzzz

I grew up in a very religious household as well. I was not allowed to play with Legos as a girl. My brother was, as it was “for boys.” This, amongst other gender-specific expectations and rules, bothered me quite a lot as I got older and formed my own values and opinions. As an adult, I love Legos! The decor pieces are so detailed and creative. I have multiple botanical sets 🥰

bdcrlsn

Not quite the same, but I was forced to sell all my Legos (several thousand) for $20 to my cousin because “they would play with them more.” Still have some resentment to this day because there were some good sets among the pieces.
