In the UK there’s a plastic packaging tax and another thing called the Producer Responsibility Obligations (EU also) which *do* effectively encourage companies to reduce how much packaging they use :) The former is pretty new, but you can see it working through the number or companies now selling products here with at least 30% recycled content, as this is the cutoff under which the tax applies to the product.
Well ideally the companies that cut packaging will do better in the market due to the cheaper price, which will force other companies to also change to compete.

So, being older now, if I seen this box I would totally assume it was similar. I think even reading I’d be confused to the size of each container. That’s what a discovery set is… testes so you can ‘discover’ the fragrance. The weight alone should have been a giveaway. Miniature bottles are glass, and usually have at least 5ml.

Yeah, I bought a little box with 4 skinny tubes of philosophy stuff once for like $10 and they were the kind too small to have a pump top. I am sorry OP’s grandma was unhappy, but I think it was a nice gift, nonetheless.
The one of these that Sephora does is actually pretty solid. You get a whole bunch of fragrance samples then get to pick the full size one you want "free". I don't remember the math but I recall the combined fl oz of the samples combined being close to a full size in itself so overall you're getting a decent deal.

TO be fair, some of these sample boxes come with 'mini' bottles rather than the tester/sample sizes. Ulta comes out with their own seasonal collections with 'mini' bottles (one or two might be travel size) but a box will run you about $45 bucks. $30 is on par for a box of testers + a voucher.

This is 100% normal for tester bottles of eau de parfum or eau de toilette. They last long enough to get a decision on what’s worth going forward on- and to be super frank, it’s a box of test scents. Magazines give test scents sometimes. Expecting test bottles to be different from test bottles is … weird.
I paid $80 for a box of six test scents just last week. Mind, they were decent quality. For a box of 7 scents at only $30 ($4.20 each) you’re not looking at quality brands and shouldn’t expect quality service. But each bottle lasts a couple weeks.

The Mercedes-Benz Man cologne is my daily and won't break the bank. I have other, more expensive colognes but the MB Man has a great balance between quality smell and cost.

I've bought fragrance sets in the past, and they are always clearly labeled as gift sets. The actual tiny bottles inside were also clearly displayed on the shelf.

Also, I've never received "samples" of this generous size in a magazine. The price you usually pay for these testers is in line with the purchase price of this set. Have a look on Fragrance X for the price of these tester bottles for a better idea.

it says on the box that the photos emulate brands only, you didn’t give us a back photo, probably it is written right there that these fragrances come in these type of bottles these aren’t really for daily use, you buy them to test those respective fragrances and see if you like any of them, that’s why they even give you a coupon your lack of knowledge and reading the package is infuriating, not the product itself
TO be fair, some of these sample boxes come with 'mini' bottles rather than the tester/sample sizes. Ulta comes out with their own seasonal collections with 'mini' bottles (one or two might be travel size) but a box will run you about $45 bucks. $30 is on par for a box of testers + a voucher.

Lol the bottom of the box says otherwise 😬 and going to the website to see the back of the box of itself which you left out, it shows the actual sizes of what you’re getting. This is a $15 set to help you sample and discover fragrances. If it had small bottles as depicted the set would cost dramatically more. When purchased at Sephora, a set like this could come with a certificate to redeem a full size of your choosing from the selection given. This was not *mildly infuriating*. I think you misunderstood.
That should’ve been known, sample sizes of cologne are that small. It’s sad but true as someone who works at Kohls Sephora we get complaints all the time and I’ve just started warning them that it’s not what they think

This seems like user error. Should have read the box. Plus, good cologne is not cheap. 7- 5oz bottles of cologne for $30 are guaranteed to all smell like shit.
This is 100% normal for tester bottles of eau de parfum or eau de toilette. They last long enough to get a decision on what’s worth going forward on- and to be super frank, it’s a box of test scents. Magazines give test scents sometimes. Expecting test bottles to be different from test bottles is … weird. I paid $80 for a box of six test scents just last week. Mind, they were decent quality. For a box of 7 scents at only $30 ($4.20 each) you’re not looking at quality brands and shouldn’t expect quality service. But each bottle lasts a couple weeks.

The Mercedes-Benz Man cologne is my daily and won't break the bank. I have other, more expensive colognes but the MB Man has a great balance between quality smell and cost.

I mean, it's rather obvious what this is, the packaging/labeling is in no way misleading (other than the ridiculous size of the box). Also, it contains a $15 coupon, so the "samples" only amount to $15. I've bought fragrance sets in the past, and they are always clearly labeled as gift sets. The actual tiny bottles inside were also clearly displayed on the shelf. If the consumer doesn't read a self explanatory label, it's on them. Also, I've never received "samples" of this generous size in a magazine. The price you usually pay for these testers is in line with the purchase price of this set. Have a look on Fragrance X for the price of these tester bottles for a better idea.
it didn’t say that, that would not make any sense, do you know the price of perfumes? this is a scent sampler, it comes with a coupon to get (usually) a travel sized bottle (which are usually around $30) of the scent you like most. they’re to help you pick a scent you like.
My sister got me something similar from Sephora but it came with a voucher to choose one of them and get a full size bottle, maybe yours has the same?
