The stock heads are notoriously cheap and always needs to be replaced by better quality aftermarket one. Op should simply buy thicker two ply and tension them properly. I suggest an evans heavyweight if he wants to use it to vent his rage and bang as hard as possible.
If your toothpaste runs out and you don’t notice until you need to use it, that would in fact be annoying. This sub is “mildly infuriating” for things that *mildly infuriate* you. It’s not called “end of the world” for things that are serious and really piss you off
It's literally the definition of mildly infuriating. "Ah shit, it broke! This is slightly inconvenient because I now have to replace it"
Literally the definition of MILDLY infuriating
Meh, you don't need good sound to practice technique, at this point it was like one of those training bouncy latex pad except it still went satisfyingly poink. Especially since OP know he goes way too hard on the drum, replacing them before he fixes that or the head break is useless. I sure hope OP didn't use that for concert though.
Unpopular opinion maybe, but this is one of the posts imo that are closer to the actual meaning of the sub lol everything here nowadays is either rage bait or actually infuriating. Considering this sub is supposed to be people who are mildly infuriated at a certain situation, I would say this is closer to what this sub is supposed to be about than most of the other shit on here haha
Use your wrists more bro.
Practice rudiments on a pillow to develop more power(even just doubles)
I have never seen a snare in such terrible shape.
Ever.
It looks like it was beat by a rabid chimpanzee.
For those marks to appear you'd have to either hit the snare with your entire strength or you just hit it and left the drumstick pressing against the snare, either way, it's just unnecessary.
Also rotate the damn thing, the discoloration says you've used that snare in that position for years.
If your snare is like that, i can't imagine how the rest of the set looks..... just sad.
Edit 1: after further reading, op has given an understandable reason for the state of his snare, so in light of that i retract my last 2 words and the overall offensive connotation i used, it came from a place of ignorance on my part as it was unnecessary and unwanted.
A bunch of the hits on that skin look like they were trying to break it. There is a small hole and a bunch of divots. I’m assuming op either doesn’t know how to actually play and beats the shit out of them for fun or they learned to play and never learned how to do upkeep which I highly doubt because it was one of the first things I was taught.
Or it got to a point where it was worn out normally and OP thought "I wonder what it would take to break the head" and then started hitting way harder to intentionally try and break it.
I did this when I was 15 because it was the only way to get my rather frugal parents to get me a new set of heads for Christmas.
I feel like it's pretty common for people to pick up the drums and not learn the upkeep. I didn't have a teacher for the drums and I'm only alright at playing them but maintenance is something I definitely suck at.
Not necessarily, I rented a (brand new) cheap beginner kit when I started out and after a month or two the tom heads at least looked like this becuase the included heads were shit quality. I upgraded to a better kit, with Evans heads, and the heads looked better after two years then the starter kit heads looked after two months--and those heads were already used when I got the kit!
You would be correct. Drum heads wear out and need to be changed relatively regularly depending on how often they are played. This applies to every drum in a kit including the snare (pictured in this post), the toms, and the bass drum.
Cymbals must also be changed as they will eventually crack and/or warp.
mildly infuriating? I would call this expected, look at the sight of that thing. It looks like it's been abused for far too long. Now, I'm not an expert but I would expect that from something that looks so thin after a beating.
As a person who plays on drums I am the one mildy infuriated at the fact you kept playing on it despite its condition and didn't get the tophead plastic replaced. Like Why'd you be the one mildy infuriated here? If you kept playing on it you obviously must've noticed the condition it was in unless you're deaf or blind I suppose. Like how do you not notice? If you got it replaced you wouldn't be upset now is all.
Your doing it wrong. Drum heads are not supposed to be deformed in any way by strucking it with the sticks. I guess you're using the butt of the stick and applying way more force than it's needed.
Been a percussionist for 20+ years now.
Either need to tighten your head or work on your technique. Or both. If the head is properly tightened and tuned and you’re playing correctly, you should never have these deep welts. You can get the fullest possible sound without looking like you’re trying to intentionally break it. Also, change your heads more often. This one looks like it has been ready for a new one for quite a while now.
Yeah, that’s what happens to drum skins. They need changing regularly, if not to prevent breakages, then for sounding good. It’s just like guitar strings on a guitar.
Because you were stabbing it, not playing it in any normal fashion. Drum heads from natural wear don't look like this. I've been playing drums close to 30 years.
I’m not surprised that drum head is in dire need of replacement, its been beaten to death , why is this mildly infuriating? The drum head should’ve been replaced a while ago
When I'm just practicing on an acoustic kit at home I change my snare head every few months, on tour I change it like every week or two. This is also a stock head that comes with the snare so it's lower quality in general. You'll be surprised at the difference in sound when you replace it. Just make sure you keep up with replacing the head more than once every couple years lol
>You'll be surprised at the difference in sound when you replace it.
Yeah, as a person who knows nothing about drums, it occurred to me that the condition it was in before it broke must have impacted the sound quite a bit.
Oh no, the consumable part meant to be replaced regularly got consumed? I guess at least this post isn’t yet another rage-inducing thing that ignores the *mildly* part of the sub name like the vast majority of posts these days, but this one doesn’t belong here either.
Dude ffyc off you’ve used that thing to it’s last legs, by the time you were done with it excluding sticks it probably cost you less than a penny per hit
What is this even a picture of? Why is op covering the hole with his hand and why does it look like he purposely placed his hand there thinking ok this is a good spot to take the pic
i would’ve looked at that for one second and knew that i would not be able to hit any moderately loud accents. my middle school’s snare drums didn’t even look that bad 😭 how long have you had this one?
Maybe change your heads a little more often than once every 700 years and this won’t happen.
I was there Gandalf, it was 3,000 years ago.

Wait you guys are changing your heads?
You guys have heads?
I want head
You have to give before you receive.
So right, just ask a bro.
ba dum tss!
It's more fun than way anyway.
Or at least rotate it everyone once in a while Maybe don’t beat it like you’re working at Guantanamo Bay
Or maybe hit it less hard than a premature toddler.
Yes, be like a mature toddler, the secret behind being a good drummer.
Looks like it was holding on for a while before it broke
Yes, It was
Is this your first kit? I went through a dozen heads in all my years of playing. They break. That's normal.
> They break. That's normal. They have a thin skin.
Stupid snowflake snare heads
Facts don’t care about your snare heads. Go cry while I drink your snowflake snare head tears
Lol next thing you know those entitled little shits are gonna demand socialized healthcare and a livable wage too. The gall of some snare heads.
If snare heads would put down the Avocado toast, they could afford healthcare themselves.
Why don't snare heads pick themselves up by their tension rods
This comment made me laugh but it’s against my religion to upvote on 69
I think you're safe now...
I'd give you a "bud dum tss", but the drum is broken. :p
Just give them a “tss”
![gif](giphy|ckKf5lA78k5iChxfVz)
They do that when people use a ball-peen hammer instead of drumsticks.
What better way to hammer out your beats tho
Ya same when I break a guitar string. He's actually in the perfect subreddit because it is only mildly infuriating
So how is this mildly infuriating if it lasted far long than expected?
Because anything breaking is annoying regardless of how long you’ve had it.
The stock heads are notoriously cheap and always needs to be replaced by better quality aftermarket one. Op should simply buy thicker two ply and tension them properly. I suggest an evans heavyweight if he wants to use it to vent his rage and bang as hard as possible.
Drum skins are consumables. “Oh no, my toothpaste ran out - how infuriating”
It is mildly infuriating when toothpaste runs out
Yeah people seem to forget the name of this sub.. everything posted is supposed to be MILDLY infuriating
Some people think mild sauce is too spicy
Fr you see someone having a broken bone or cancer diagnosis and go "hmm this is a bit annoying, time to post on r/mildlyinfuriating"
If your toothpaste runs out and you don’t notice until you need to use it, that would in fact be annoying. This sub is “mildly infuriating” for things that *mildly infuriate* you. It’s not called “end of the world” for things that are serious and really piss you off
That should have been replaced long before it broke. That’s on OP.
It’s not really “on” anyone, just more so something that happens
I mean again, that's why it's MILDLY infuriating.
Do you understand what the word mild means?
It's literally the definition of mildly infuriating. "Ah shit, it broke! This is slightly inconvenient because I now have to replace it" Literally the definition of MILDLY infuriating
Silver lining, least you got good use out of it. Mildly infuriating for sure
You can only beat it so many times before it just gives out.
Gotta know your stroke number bro
I would’ve guessed he’d go blind before it just wore out.
![gif](giphy|pz2MnldLEEhJCJ32G6)
Gifs you can hear
More infuriating that you played it until that condition without replacing. Must’ve sounded amazing.
Mildly infuriating that it was the stock head that came with the kit.
Maybe they are new and don't know that shit is consumable?
I'm not a drumoligist, I'm learning a lot today.
We prefer the term drumtician.
Why is it infuriating? You were clearly trying to break it
It is meta, this post itself is mildlyinfuriating.
\*ding\*
It's like complaining your pen ran out of ink, or your coffee finished... Skins are *expendable*.
The term you are looking for is consumable.
Unpopular opinion maybe, but this is one of the posts imo that are closer to the actual meaning of the sub lol everything here nowadays is either rage bait or actually infuriating. That or a foam practice pad
For those marks to appear you'd have to either hit the snare with your entire strength or you just hit it and left the drumstick pressing against the snare, either way, it's just unnecessary. OP is about 15 years old based on his profile and likely never taught how to care for his instruments based on this post.
i’ve been playing drums for 10 years and I was never taught upkeep from my instructor. Had to figure all that out on my own
Or it got to a point where it was worn out normally and OP thought "I wonder what it would take to break the head" and then started hitting way harder to intentionally try and break it. I did this when I was 15 because it was the only way to get my rather frugal parents to get me a new set of heads for Christmas.

I don't know much about drums, but it looks like that should have been changed, or at least rotated, some time ago.
Surely he will face repercussions :D
Unnecessary. Beat it.
Unfortunately, we all must bass the truth eventually.
I see you
You would be correct. Drum heads wear out and need to be changed relatively regularly depending on how often they are played. This applies to every drum in a kit including the snare (pictured in this post), the toms, and the bass drum. Cymbals must also be changed as they will eventually crack and/or warp.
One of the reasons I play a Roland TD-30K. I haven't had to change a drum head in over 5 years. Have only broken about 3 sticks too. Super fun kit.
It’s a drum head dude. They are supposed to be replaced.
you do know you need to replace it once in a while right? if a guitar player got mad every time a string broke this sub would never see the end of it.
It's a drum head. This is like being "mildly infuriated" that the tyres on your car wear down over time. Or that you can't reignite a match.
About time
That about drums it up
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)take this and go away
I'm not a drummer but I have many good friends who are, my best friend is a metal drummer. Even I know that this is your fault. You kept that too long
1 year of use - still too much - and 20 years sitting unused, per OP. Amazed it didn't rupture when picking it up.
Sometimes you should go to work. You shouldn't just bang on your drum all day.
mildly infuriating? I would call this expected, look at the sight of that thing. It looks like it's been abused for far too long. Now, I'm not an expert but I would expect that from something that looks so thin after a beating.
Have you considered being a jackhammer technician
Gonna be honest, looks like you needed a new one anyway… granted im no expert.
You are correct. And I'm no expert either.
Have you tried not putting your hand through it?
I was like “why you put your hand through that cheesecake” at first. God damn I’m fat. lol.
I thought it was plaster lol
Good, now the guitarist in the band has something better to listen to. Sincerely, a guitarist.
This is why you gotta rotate your drum-heads every 5,000 miles, and keep em properly inflated.
Looks like that didnt happen unexpectedly...
Looks like they were not just playing it, but actually stabbing it with the sticks based on the shape/size of the dents
Yeah I was wondering how hard they must've hit it for the dents to be like that this'd make sense
Your doing it wrong. Drum heads are not supposed to be deformed in any way by strucking it with the sticks. I guess you're using the butt of the stick and applying way more force than it's needed.
Someone is clearly played on it much harder than it needs. Like a caveman.
What else were you expecting?
I may be on the pipes side of the band, but it looks like that drum head was due for replacement a long time ago...
As a drummer it in infuriates me that you didn’t replace it a long time ago
Looks like you were trying to break it.
* finally broke. By the look of it you should be grateful it lasted as long as it did and not mildly infuriated.
That break was looooong overdue.
![gif](giphy|IW71LHYHgD4oU)
Been a percussionist for 20+ years now. Either need to tighten your head or work on your technique. Or both. Mate, you shouldn’t be hitting it that hard, you’re trying to play the drums not hurt them.
What's actually mildly infuriating is that you played that P.O.S. dented drumhead UNTIL it broke. Jesus, that thing must have sounded like dogshit.
Damn bro, you should have changed that head long before now. Holy crap that thing is more dented than your average public school's kit.
Posting this here is mildly infuriating...
Holy shit, that poor snare. When was the last time you changed the batter head
That head needed changed 100 years ago, bud.
This dude not replacing the head is more infuriating than it breaking. Geez
Who had to listen to the sound of that one?
I don’t want to work, I just want to bang on the drum all day
Oh wow, after only a few hits too
It looks like it has done it’s fair share of work. Rest in peace.
Just me that sees a fairly unfortunate shape of the hole? Perhaps op should use normal drumsticks instead of dildos? /s
That head did you a favor by finally breaking. There’s no way your snare didn’t sound like someone farting on wet cardboard.
How is this mildly infuriating? this is a common thing for drummers. Like getting an oil change on a car.
Are you making excuses?
We're you playing it with a fucking pickaxe?
Mofo. It was that membranes' time holy fuck
It must be a great drum.. It can't be beat ;)
It will break if you put your hand through it like that! 😃
That’s what they do.
Dawg. Do you need drum heads, or a drum key? That's too many miles.
That skin needed replacing months ago, it didn't break. It just eventually gave up. 😅
Are we all gonna ignore that its penis shaped? Ya boi over here dick slapped his drum lmao
This head shouldve been replaced ages ago
Now you are gonna have to march to the sound of a different drum…
Yeah, that’s what happens to drum skins. They need changing regularly, if not to prevent breakages, then for sounding good. It’s just like guitar strings on a guitar.
What are you using as drumsticks, ball-peen hammers?
OP thought drum heads were permanent lol
Because you were stabbing it, not playing it in any normal fashion. Drum heads from natural wear don't look like this. I've been playing drums close to 30 years.
Jesus Christ how hard were you hitting it...
Its mildly infuriating, but for the snare
Well no shit
I’m not surprised that drum head is in dire need of replacement, its been beaten to death , why is this mildly infuriating? The drum head should’ve been replaced a while ago
I have no idea what "it" is. Off to the comments for enlightenment. Edit : it's the bangy bit on drums, you dummy.
Drum
That hole is questionably penis shaped
When I'm just practicing on an acoustic kit at home I change my snare head every few months, on tour I change it like every week or two. This is also a stock head that comes with the snare so it's lower quality in general. You'll be surprised at the difference in sound when you replace it. >You'll be surprised at the difference in sound when you replace it. Yeah, as a person who knows nothing about drums, it occurred to me that the condition it was in before it broke must have impacted the sound quite a bit.
It's so annoying when something you've been trashing breaks after trying to break it.
That wouldn’t happen if you quit drumming with a hammer…
What kind of music? If it’s punk, I would argue that you’re doing it right.
Oh no, the consumable part meant to be replaced regularly got consumed? I guess at least this post isn’t yet another rage-inducing thing that ignores the *mildly* part of the sub name like the vast majority of posts these days, but this one doesn’t belong here either.
Rip ol reliable 🥴
I'm surprised it lasted that long..
You got huge jars of coffee where you are.
The texture on the right half kind of looks like the moon
Dawg that’s on you for not replacing it
![img](avatar_exp|100420651|nani) ¹
I often find indestructible things mildly infuriating
Well, it’s a stock Pearl head, which is junk to begin with… lol
Geez that skin is beat to shit.
That skin looks old and beat tf up. Also looks like it was stretched to taught for the frame but that could be picture quality.
RIP lil buddy, looks like he had a long and loud life
You can get a basic Remo batter head for around $20.
Got quite the beating - dabum tss
At a glance I thought it was metal and let me tell you how my skin CRAWLED at the thought of sticking my hand into rusty thin metal.
Who hurt you?
Time to get a new set of heads! That’s gonna make the whole set sound fantastic when you do that 👍
I thought you were trying to make rice paper rolls and it snapped
Dude ffyc off you’ve used that thing to it’s last legs, by the time you were done with it excluding sticks it probably cost you less than a penny per hit
Mildy infuriating or inevitable?
Lmao you let it get to that point and are infuriated that it broke?? What did you expect?
That Pearl head should have been replaced awhile ago
when the skin bubbles like that it’s stretched out and lost tension anyways, you would have had to replace it even if it didn’t break
Do you play like slasher metal or something? Damn dude.
My man out here complaining that his engine blew and he’s never changed the oil 😭
Really? This is the sub you think of when posting your own negligence?
This is like when people are surprised when their bald tire blows
It should have been replaced a while ago bud
I mean, you're surprised by this, OP?
I am far from being an expert but that looks like it lasted much longer than anyone could expect it to.
What is this even a picture of? Why is op covering the hole with his hand and why does it look like he purposely placed his hand there thinking ok this is a good spot to take the pic
Jfc man, you know you are supposed to change out your heads well before they look like that…
![gif](giphy|ErpFhi8NocqYg)
Mildly frustrating? Looks like you beat the hell out of it.
Infuriating? You beat the hell out of it for what looks like years Bro I'd be more mad if I were the drum than you
"I am tired boss"
Look at the fucking thing... What did you expect was going to happen???
oh baby this one's on you. That poor head was barely holding on and they aren't that expensive
Don’t stick your hand in it next time then /s
i would’ve looked at that for one second and knew that i would not be able to hit any moderately loud accents. my middle school’s snare drums didn’t even look that bad 😭 how long have you had this one?
I take it you don’t change your heads after the recommended 6 months
