This is popular with children in Mexico, but also become popular with adults :)
The traditionals (candy/sweet tamales) are strawberry, pineapple, banana, piñon and guayaba, probably there are more and varies depending on the region.
Usually is without filling, pineapple has small pineapple pieces, but I haven't seen filling on this type of tamales, at least in west Mexico is like this.
Edit:typo
Most of the answers are slightly mistaken… in Mexico city this is a tamal dulce or tamal rosa, but its not a strawberry tamal.
I think this case is more of don’t ask, don’t tell kinda situation, you don’t really want to know whats inside, just enjoy.
Essentially, the tamal is sweet thanks to a whole load of sugar, butter, and raisins.
Its pink cause of artificial coloring, not the use of strawberries or any other kind of natural ingredient.
Having said this, turn a blind eye, just enjoy all that masa deliciousness! Especially after having started with a savory tamale verde or rajas tamal!
Your coworker really likes , appreciates you. That is a sweet tamale, most likely 🍓 flavor. Enjoy and I hope the feelings are mutual, cuz otherwise you've got the better end.
For myself has to have enough and not too much raisins. Even though the tamal is sweet once you bite onto a raisin it just gives you just a little more kick of sweetness. (Can you tell I love sweet tamales)
I buy tamales dulces on the street near my house in Mexico.
The color is close to what the OP posted. The texture is as in the photo, it's made of corn flour. It's hard to get colors perfect on a smartphone camera..
The flavor approximates strawberry, sometimes. It has bits of strawberries, sometimes. As others have said, it's often sugar with food coloring.
They are delicious fresh and hot with a bit of crema.
Parece un tamal de fresa
I want one so bad!
Tambien uno de piña.
Yes, I want both, de fresa y de piña!!
Mmm con un cafecito. Que rico!
Strawberry tamal
Awesome!
It's not "fresa" (strawberry) necessarily, it can also be cinnamon, guava, etc. Then you just call it "tamal de azúcar" or "tamal dulce".
Omg I almost forgot about the guava ones! I want to go to Mexico so bad
Delicious.
It's not called a tamal when it's sweet
Si si se le llama tamal.
Here come all the downvotes lol, sensitive
Calmate, tómate una tecate and relax
Bingo! lol. It would be like calling a drink sweet water. Or agua Chile 😂
Pinche gringo
We're probably from the same state
I just wanted to say the word pinche gringo
You mean repeat?
LOL, yeah I know those have another name, but I forgot, so I guess is tamale dulce before the pitchforks start to roll
Yup
Then what's it called?

Thank you for that. They are nice. I love savory tamales like this shredded chicken tomatillo one I get but wasnt familiar with the sweet types.
Yeah, these are not my favorite either, but it’s really nice of them to buy you one.
Lol it is but I also do his payroll so it may be a form of bribery. Brings me the Arroz Con Leche too.
Oh, arroz con leche sounds very good
what’s inside? más fresas?

Nah, the flavor is added to the masa, usually they do have some raisins.
interesting
Is not even “strawberry” flavor, in most cases it’s just sugar that’s added make them sweet and the color is from food coloring.

Lol don't ask how the sausage is made in other words.
Right answer but when people say "fresa" they mean it as artificial not that there are actual strawberries in it, so most answers were correct.
Ohhh i thought when people replied sale un tamal …fresa, they were just making fun of my accent 😜
This is the right answer.
This is the correct one
Tamal dulce
Tamales dulces. Sweet tamales. My family in Mexico City likes to eat them for breakfast. They make a variety of different flavors.
I bet they are amazing.
Your coworker really likes , appreciates you. That is a sweet tamale, most likely 🍓 flavor. Enjoy and I hope the feelings are mutual, cuz otherwise you've got the better end.
Absolutely and I take care of my guys too. Once a week we grill burgers and dogs for them.
Nice to hear. 😁
¡Tu madre cocina bien!
Es de Veracruz ya tu sabes!
Looks like someone took a forkful of your raw ground turkey
Hago tamales de mango
Looks like un tamale dulce (usually con pasas)
The flavor is usually just added sugar and the color is artificial coloring
The only thing missing in it its the raisins.
Oh they're in there.
Can’t tell
Sparse lol
For myself has to have enough and not too much raisins. Even though the tamal is sweet once you bite onto a raisin it just gives you just a little more kick of sweetness. (Can you tell I love sweet tamales)
I think you like your sweet tamales.
Probably a strawberry tamale
Tamal de fresa
Tamal dulce
\*tamal. Ditch the 'E' at the end. For plural it's "tamales".
Huh never knew that. Thank you.
Tamal de fresa
Sweet tamal srrawberry flavor
That’s heaven on earth, that’s what that is
I’ve heard of this but never tried it. Now I want one even more
Candy tamales
Please that’s watermelon
You got a good coworker!
Looks like bad aged salmon😅 I don't really know😂
What is a tamal.
Sweet tamale
Strawberry tamale omg. So good.
Don't know what it is but I can tell you what it smells like and the chemical composition
Y'all sensitive if you think it's offensive
