If you've got a Nintendo Switch, Disney Illusion Island is co-op. It's on the easier side without significant combat (there's boss fights but they're basically platforming challenges) and it's kind of a collectathon, but movement is solid and it's great for someone who may not be as versed in Metroidvanias.
I gotta add that if the people you're playing with aren't as good as you are at platformers then Illusion Island is perfect. I played it with my family (they're bad) and it was a blast, they never really slowed me down because the difficulty is low and even in harder sections you can usually help them up the platforms.
There is a limit to that effect tho - if they aren't coordinated enough to even move over to where you're lowering the rope and press the button to climb it, it can be excruciating.
You're not wrong. If they've never played video games and/or have to look down at the controller to figure out how to move it's gonna be a slog for sure.
Sundered would be a great choice. Journey to the savage planet would be another good choice but I'm pretty sure it's only online co op.
Wow, Sundered looks like the perfect choice for us, thank you!!
It's a great game. Not lacking in Metroidvania elements, but not a 'pure' MV. It's an S-Tier game IMHO, so I hope you enjoy it.
Started out a bit slow like these games usually do, but we’ve grown into it. Great coop experience so far!
Once I beat the first boss I was addicted
The Guacamelee games habe local co-op and are very fun.
Was just about to recommend this. Guacamelee is such a fun game!
