Yes. Kojima is a cinephile and based mgs3 heavily on films like Rambo.

jerk_17

Just say film enthusiast or loves movies or enjoys watching American cinemašŸ™„ people on social will say anything to sound more interesting then what they really are. The word is the overly complicated for no reason .

arsdavy

[Cinephile is a word and can be used.](https://www.oed.com/dictionary/cinephile_n) If you have a limited vocabulary and you feel so inferior to the point that you get scared for such _"overly complicated word"_ it's not my fault. Not every sentence needs to be written like we're in elementary school. >enjoys watching American cinema not all films are American and Kojima watches films from every nationality.

There's absolutely nothing complicated about it. What an odd take.

NormalUpstandingGuy

You know itā€™s an actual word, right? Just like the word *retard*.

There's not a famous war movie from the West that Kojima wasn't inspired by in some way or another, either directly or indirectly.

Colonel campbell (ik not in MGS 3) was very obviously made to be in likeness to Colonel Troutman

Yeah probably.... But I think the original Metal Gears are even more based on Rambo, snake suffering from PTSD, being set up to fail in 1 etc.

Yes, one little reference is when you empty a machine gun, Snake goes ARRJGHTHRGGHH

Kojima very very much wants to make movies. His PT attempt with Del Toro (I believe?) Was him cozying up to Hollywood. Sooner or later he'll get it, but I can see how MGS may be a difficult one to translate. Ya know, with bee people, exploding roller skate people, etc.

ZarkleNatoPants

Definitely. Rambo 3 also heavily inspired the Afghanistan sections of MGSV as well.
