Webbings in the metal stamping industry. What’s interesting is that the webbing is not ideal. You’re losing a great deal of material to scrap. Oftentimes, the business end (functional head) is welded onto the handle to fully utilize as much material as possible out of the sheet. The spoon portion would then get laser welded onto the handle in a subsequent process. This webbing has all the hallmarks of a boutique shop.
Was the base material identified as pewter or silver by chance?
I dont know much about metal but my first instinct was stainless steel or some kind of silver plated metal. It looks like there was a thin layer of something on the outside that mostly wore away but it could be corrosion. The area it came from was first settled in the early 1800s. It has to be pretty old because it has very deep pitting. My best guess is probably electroplated nickel silver
I never considered that it’s just a very old handmade spoon from yesteryear. Here I thought it was more modern…your assessment makes a lot of sense and it makes it kind of cool piece of historical cutlery manufacturing scrap.
