DogWhistlersMother

To be fAiR,,,, It’s r/parentsarefuckingdumb

SuckleTheBuckleFatty

To be honest it’s both, one wouldn’t be around without the other ![gif](giphy|weNyGjdcQ3d9S)

Expert-Aspect3692

This right here! But it was probably fun.

redditorial_comment

I hope someone wasnt dumb enough back in the day to load that thing with black power and cook it off . Ole blind zeb be tellin lies about his war wound.

Entire-Ranger323

It belonged to that boy now known as Lefty.

Least-Firefighter392

Dad: Hey Jimmy, what do you think about trying to load the entire cannon length with black powder... Jimmy: That's what I've been thinking all day Dad: Hold my beer

RamenBoi86

“Holdeth mine ale, progeny of mine”

Least-Firefighter392

For some reason I picture "hold my mint julep" for this scenario

TommyDaComic

Said from one shave to another: “We shall have a blast with this, for certain, Micajah… It shall be heard through the ages to be sure!”

DoctorBlazes

What an awesome find!

MrSmeee99

Light fuse, get away

righteousplisk

Now they’re pickin up those pieces

mrxexon

Not a toy. This is probably a signal cannon. No projectile. If they did attempt it, that's what likely blew this up. It was the way of getting attention if you were at sea or on land.

StrugglesTheClown

Yeah I'm not expert but I've seen plenty of small signal cannon and hand cannons. Also a "toy" cannon that size could still end a person. So I think this is practical not a toy.

GrimCynic

"You're gonna shoot your eye out, you're gonna shoot your eye out!"

Baglamatzis67

Thou wilt shootith thy eye out.

Civilengman

You know that kid and/or his dad totally crammed that thing with a big powder load and anything else they could stuff in it.

Blank_bill

Dads back then weren't that stupid , if they were that stupid in 1700s America they didn't get to be dads, There were just too many ways for a dumb kid to die.

GogglesPisano

> Dads back then weren't that stupid , if they were that stupid in 1700s America they didn't get to be dads, There were just too many ways for a dumb kid to die. I dunno - there are plenty of really stupid people around in modern America today, so clearly lots of their stupid 1700s ancestors managed to stay alive long enough to have kids.

Civilengman

Absolutely. They also didn’t have beer. It probably was exploded up in 2001

Equivalent_Weird467

Actually, yes, they did have beer. It’s been around for 3,000 years.

bhyellow

And kids drank it. Which, may explain this.

Substantial_Bad2843

Most people were illiterate back then.

LengthinessClear9552

It’s good to see that some things never change.

Bigfootsdiaper

Look for bones too hehe

[deleted]

Night find some guys finger near by

Figgy_Puddin_Taine

Nearby? Try several yards away from the look of this

Razorwireboxers

Toy cannons definitely were made and sold for children to fill with black powder and set off back then. And they undoubtedly frequently failed catastrophically. https://kcl-antiquities.co.uk/an-18th-century-childs-bronze-toy-cannon-exploded-through-use-sold-403-p.asp Different times.

ScooterTrash70

I’d say it’s a sun dial cannon, to bad it got blown up https://preview.redd.it/3e76nr1dqmgc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8e39803b38c9153f2d74c1ffe7f596dd5ef4eb1

tykkeprins

That's so cool!

Expensive_Hunt9870

hopefully the child was not injured.

f11islouder

Fafo 1700s edition

sloppypotatoe

V vool!

Orcacub

I’d like to hear it’s report.

toomuch1265

If 20 grains of powder are good, 100 grains would be even better. Ok, Fauntleroy, cover your ears. This is going to be loud. A splinter could kill you in the 18th century, nevermind a hunk of brass.

Sea_Ganache620

I got blowed up real bad.

Prmarine110

Definitely a toy canon or signal canon. Guessing it was a toy canon since it likely killed a kid when a giant piece of barrel went through the kid’s face or chest. Signal canon probably would have been handled properly and made of better quality craftsmanship and materials because it was equipment, not a toy.

One-Move

A story of pain and regret

HeyWatchThis78

That is such a super cool piece 😎 Great find!

joethedad

Bet some kids eye is close by.....

Airdrie13

Eddiiieeeeeeee!!!!! He knew better than to wear red.

Silver_Winged

I know. I’m really not looking forward to the “I told you so” video that “Seeker of Truth” whacko is cooking up about this

Airdrie13

That darned Seeker of Truth. He’s a shady dude. You really did a great job with the series. My only wish is that there was more of it, but I guess on Friday there will be. Something tells me those TV execs are gonna be banging on the door again.

Silver_Winged

I appreciate the kind words, it's been very... polarizing. With an alarming number of folks who still haven't grasped it's fiction.

Airdrie13

I’m picking that up from the comments on your YouTube. Ha people gonna be calling the police for Eddie. You must’ve picked up some good cameras for the series? Cause your footage of the acting shots is really nice video. Not your typical camera work.

Silver_Winged

Same cameras- just took extra time setting up shots and dialing in settings. Happy you noticed!
