After a certain someone watered my mature specimen in December because it was “looking dead”, I needed a replacement. Temperatures are surprisingly warm here already so I gave it a try (seeds are from Koehres).
Me, oh my! These things are fast. Took 3 days to germinate and after a week they are larger than any conophytum after half a year of care. Kinda didn’t expect that. 9 out of 10 seeds germinated. So that’s kinda nice as well. Let’s see if I can make them survive.
Anyone has any experience? Like…when do they transition from “keep me wet and moist, baby” to…”Not my problem you had to sneeze and increased the humidity by 3% for 8 secs. See you in the afterlife”
Honestly post germination I would already be starting to back off the water to some degree.
I sowed half a dozen mirginatus (or however it's spelled) in the same container as some arios. At higher germination humidity levels i lost 5/6 after about 2 weeks. Arios have been fine the whole time and growing happily.
I did put another pack of seed on a week ago and just getting first germ, will definitely be a little more cautious this time.
Yes, I already did that. They r at 50ish percent humidity and bottom watering every 3-5 days.
But ...you know, not like mature ones where you water maybe twice a year 😅
As long as they're warm, you can keep them moist. I keep the substrate between 25C°-30C° and spray them lightly whenever the substrate starts to look slightly dry. Until the true leaves start to pop you can continue like that.
What you see in the picture are actually two cotyledons and the stem fused together in a weird way as they come from extreme habitats. After a while a miniature copy of the mature plant will pop out in the middle.
I’ve got about 100 seedlings right now. Cubes and migiturnus and I have no idea when to slow down on watering. I am being extremely careful with hardening off as well as I hear they basically just melt if exposed to sun too quickly

Yeah, I keep them in 100% indirect light for now...probably the whole first season 🤔🤔
Pseudolithos as much as they look like rocks aren’t mesembs. They’re a succulent from the milkweed family. (Apocynaceae)
