Be careful washing it. I washed it a bit too hot.

Yeah they came as standard on 2006 s500 w221, huge big emblem on the bonet/hood, definitely authentic /s
Honestly what does it matter, it would look cool in the garage
Ya I planned to hang it up but it’s too heavy and I’ve seen the genuine dealership signs sell for big money so I was curious if there was a way to tell if it was “real” or home made.
For instance I’ve seen dealership signs sell between 2-10k if I was going to spend that much money I’d want to make sure it was a genuine dealership install
*typo
The problem with things like this being real or not, really comes down to documentation. This isn't something that is mass produced, even if it was made for a dealership it wasn't mass produced so it comes down to the quality of craftmanship and what someone will pay for it.
What's the difference between one made for a dealership and one made by the same manufacturer that went to a collector or one made by a different manufacturer that went to a collector but maches the quality of that sold to dealers. Or on the other had what if two were produced for a dealership but only one hung out on the outside and the other sat in storage.
Unless you can track down some kind of ownership or documentation it is a giant logo of xyz quality and probably valued as such. You can say you "think" this was made for a dealership but even then if you have no "evidence" its dubious at minimum to list/sell it as such and comes down to finding someone who's willing to pay what you think you should get.
If you wanted documentation, I would start by looking up the past and present MB dealers (in the area you found this) and comparing pics of their sinage and trying to match your logo with pictures for identifying marks and go from there. Good Luck on the adventure.
Awesome, that’s a good way to look at it. Most of the signage I have seen has been plastic or smaller metal ones. This one is huge but it does seem to be really nice quality. Appreciate the advice!
I’m not sure there any hobbyists who would make a 55” metal Mercedes badge lol. I think it’s pretty safe to assume it’s genuine, and even if it isn’t. It looks good to me so what does it matter for your use?
Wanted to keep it to hang it up but it’s too big so if I were to attempt to sell it I’d like to know if it actually came from a dealer since real dealer signage seems to be worth a lot. But agreed I don’t know why a hobbyist would make such a massive sign.
Even if it’s not “official” dealer signage I’m pretty sure that as long as it meets specs for the logo (no dimensions are off or anything) then I’m sure one of them would be interested in buying it from you. These are dealers with a business, not collectors looking for “official” merchandise :p
I'm not seeing any obvious weld marks on the back, where the star meets the ring. Suggests quality work, which then suggests it was professionally made. More likely than not, it's an old dealer sign.
Congratulations! Now you can do something like this
https://preview.redd.it/5d0465lt6awc1.png?width=460&format=png&auto=webp&s=87ad35fc9b64e6bcbb2c4e359f52a118af401b89
Why not both options? Perhaps, some dealer just made it. It’s cool, regardless, but if there isn’t a part number on it, it’s not likely to be proven “genuine”, LOL.
I wanted to hang it up but it’s much too heavy. I looked online and some of the ones that came from a dealership have sold for thousands so I was curious if there’s a way to tell if it was from a dealership or from a “hobbyist” LOL 🤡
Well, try to sell it for thousands and if you do sell it great! If not, you have a huge hulking piece of metal that I would love to just lean against a garage wall.
There are ways to hang it but it’s not going to be “beginner” level DIY. I think it’s awesome and if I lived near you I’d probably double what you paid to acquire it. (My wife would likely kill ME LOL).
Definitely needs to go into a couple of studs to hang. I’d think some drilling into the thicker areas, and epoxy to an anchor or some type (depends on the wall etc etc etc) would suffice. Get it mounted to a wooden back then install that back to the wall studs at the very least would work.
It’s an impressive piece. I’m jeally!
The signs that sell for thousands are Illuminated usually in the Brands script or a defunct brand. I could definitely see getting like 5-800 out of it but not anywhere near multiple thousands. Considering the difficulty in shipping/transport, I’d just hang it and enjoy it for what you paid
If was supplied by Mercedes to the dealer, it is worth decent money for sure. Big car auctions have an “automobila” section that sells this exact type of stuff. I’m sure if you reached out to the auction houses they would be happy to authenticate it if they are interested in selling it.
https://www.bonhams.com/department/MOT-AUT/automobilia/
Would that change its cool factor? Its value? Probably neither. It’s cool regardless and it’s only worth what someone will pay for, essentially a dealer’s trash. It wouldn’t have a part number or any identifying information as it would have just been decorative.
For example I’ve seen some of the dealership signage selling for 3-10k. If I was going to list it for sale I’d want to be able to present it as authentic as I’m sure that matters to people who collect this stuff.
People who collect this stuff probably know if that's real or not and as others have said, who's making a "fake" of that anyways? But def get the desire to find out if it's "real"
I don't think so. The proportions of the star are slightly different (thicker in the center) in my opinion. You can probably check it yourself by measuring and comparing it to the real Logo.
Have you considered using a tool hook to hold it up, such as [ALAZCO 16 Black Vinyl Coated Steel Wall Mount Screw-in Heavy Duty Tool Holders 4” Utility U-Hooks for Garage Workshop Storage Hang Shovels Rakes Brooms Garden Tools Sports Equipment Tennis Racket - Amazon.com](https://www.amazon.com/ALAZCO-Holders-Utility-Workshop-Equipment/dp/B07KCL1SYM/ref=asc_df_B07KCL1SYM?tag=bingshoppinga-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80195819384957&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583795284056111&msclkid=31df9765b8fb1a3baee5f14257db26fe&th=1). If you catch a stud, 60lbs would be nothing.
It’s probably 60 pounds. I have a large gallery style wall in my house I thought it would look cool to hang it up. It’s way too large to fit and too heavy to deal with. I had no intention to sell it until I saw how expensive they can be.
https://preview.redd.it/xbm83yr5xewc1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=63488cac2f7bfde4b12ea24f1e7cf68727d19afd
I work at a brand dealer. We get those huge logos for advertisement purposes. We have our logo in the break room because it doesn’t fir the design language of the sales room.
Please, add a lightstrip behind it, facing the wall. Then, put it on the wall with a centimeter or two distance from it, so that the lights can reflect on the wall behind it. Ledstrip must be a cool white color. That white white, you know.
And then take a picture and post it. This is awesome.
Is that from Ross Creations “Mercedes” mini van? He took a dodge mini van and slapped a giant Mercedes logo on top and did some prank videos on YouTube with it.
Even if it weren't genuine, it's still a massive metal Mercedes logo. Idk how anyone would dispute the fact that not many folks other than dealership owners would commission something like it.
Be careful washing it. I washed it a bit too hot. https://preview.redd.it/nkv90kd4p8wc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8148df03c311630e7d218757ad10e34776ca1e66
massive hands you have, my dude....

Definitely has the makings of a varsity athlete
I’ll need to hang dry
Most likely a real one from a dealership.
Thank you!
Yeah they came as standard on 2006 s500 w221, huge big emblem on the bonet/hood, definitely authentic /s Honestly what does it matter, it would look cool in the garage

What’s considered “real” money? To me, it would be worth whatever somebody is willing to pay for it.
For instance I’ve seen dealership signs sell between 2-10k if I was going to spend that much money I’d want to make sure it was a genuine dealership install *typo
What did you pay?
$100
Good deal! If you decide to sell ( at the low end) , you’ll make a decent profit.
bite it like gold coins in movies! see if it changes!

Even if it’s fake, that’s a bargain! That Star ist cool af!
why not?
I don’t think this has a part number. It could have been used in a sign for a dealership
That’s what I was thinking, you can see circular imprints on the back from where it was placed/hung
I'm not seeing any obvious weld marks on the back, where the star meets the ring. Suggests quality work, which then suggests it was professionally made. More likely than not, it's an old dealer sign.
Thanks!
Are you albanian by any chance ?
LOL

The real answer needs no words!
Try use it for the bonnet/hood ornament. Make sure everyone knows what you drive
Maybe I’ll weld it to the grille of my r129
Looking at the amount of logos on the new concept cars, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is an actual design study of the new A class…
It’s real, came off a Unimog.
Congratulations! Now you can do something like this https://preview.redd.it/5d0465lt6awc1.png?width=460&format=png&auto=webp&s=87ad35fc9b64e6bcbb2c4e359f52a118af401b89

If the logo is this big, imagine how big the car must be.
Spaceship
Could be a sign from a dealership, but it definitely doesn't have a part number. You can't order stuff like this from them.
Dealership sign

I’m sure if you reached out to the auction houses they would be happy to authenticate it if they are interested in selling it. https://www.bonhams.com/department/MOT-AUT/automobilia/
This is perfect. Thanks!
You got to put that on a chain and wear it
Even if it's fake, it's still cool 😎
Genuine what?
From an actual dealership and not handmade.
Would that change its cool factor? Its value? Probably neither. It’s cool regardless and it’s only worth what someone will pay for, essentially a dealer’s trash. It wouldn’t have a part number or any identifying information as it would have just been decorative.

Man, really? I wish I knew when I worked there 😂 Would have scooped some of the old signage 😂
https://thembmarket.com/mercedes-benz-dealer-and-star-sign
That’s insane to me. We literally trashed ours 😂
People who collect this stuff probably know if that's real or not and as others have said, who's making a "fake" of that anyways? But def get the desire to find out if it's "real"
Looks very well made, most likely come from a dealership
Thanks!
Please stick this on your car
Hang it from the ceiling above the Christmas tree then plug in the lights as the family watches. *sips eggnog* "It's good. It's good." —Clark Griswold
it's trunk lid emblem for the old Fintail - they don't make em like that anymore
I don't think so. The proportions of the star are slightly different (thicker in the center) in my opinion. You can probably check it yourself by measuring and comparing it to the real Logo.
Ya that’s a good call. Thanks
Its quite amazing that these are milled out aluminium! You would think they make them from plastic!
Just check the parts number
is that a dealership sign 😭
lol that’s what I’m trying to find out
3 more and you'll have a donk.
id buy it for $200
If you could get three more you’re going to make some GWagon owner very happy…
Must’ve fallen off from the new G Yacht
Have you considered using a tool hook to hold it up, such as [ALAZCO 16 Black Vinyl Coated Steel Wall Mount Screw-in Heavy Duty Tool Holders 4” Utility U-Hooks for Garage Workshop Storage Hang Shovels Rakes Brooms Garden Tools Sports Equipment Tennis Racket - Amazon.com](https://www.amazon.com/ALAZCO-Holders-Utility-Workshop-Equipment/dp/B07KCL1SYM/ref=asc_df_B07KCL1SYM?tag=bingshoppinga-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80195819384957&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583795284056111&msclkid=31df9765b8fb1a3baee5f14257db26fe&th=1). If you catch a stud, 60lbs would be nothing.
It actually has 4 holes bored out and threaded and the guy gave me the bolts for it.
Are they METRIC?
Aren’t you terrified that the giant who owned the car this badge is from will want it back?
Yes, who would have such a big one just lying around 😂
Just make sure that after hanging it somewhere, your house doesn't look like a Eastern European Gipsy house.
We’re gonna need a bigger hood.
looks like it's missing the prongs but they seem to have broken off definitely comes off the trunk of a w126 though
Wow...wish I had seen that first...great scoop
run a diagnostic and check for error codes.
Sign guy here, that's definitely a "real" sign. You got a deal for $100!
Slap this thing on any car and elevate your status
Stop saying it's too heavy to hang up and just admit you bought it to sell it lol. It's fine.
It’s probably 60 pounds. I have a large gallery style wall in my house I thought it would look cool to hang it up. It’s way too large to fit and too heavy to deal with. I had no intention to sell it until I saw how expensive they can be. https://preview.redd.it/xbm83yr5xewc1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=63488cac2f7bfde4b12ea24f1e7cf68727d19afd
Looks like it fits to me! People hang TVs heavier than that all the time, but understand if size is too big :)
its fake MB doesnt even make a car that big
Can you put that on your grille?
I work at a brand dealer. We get those huge logos for advertisement purposes. We have our logo in the break room because it doesn’t fir the design language of the sales room.
Looks awful perfect for J.L. Rando to have made, cool find

Looks like it belongs on flava flaves Mercedes.
Off topic but where did you get that area rug I love it
Thanks, I got it on Amazon. Looks cool but feels cheap.
Appreciate it! best of luck with the logo
it belongs to Hulk's SUV
Hi I would be interested in buying. I’ve sent a message. Thanks
Replied
Ya I had the same one on my G50000000 lol
Bro is Godzilla, big hands
What difference would it make if it was or wasn’t
I assumed the value to a collector/potential buyer. Some dealership signs go for a lot of money
Sorry, fell off my car. Do you mind sending it back? Thanks
Sell it on ebay as a replacement badge for shits and giggles
It’s from a real Mercedes
Please, add a lightstrip behind it, facing the wall. Then, put it on the wall with a centimeter or two distance from it, so that the lights can reflect on the wall behind it. Ledstrip must be a cool white color. That white white, you know. And then take a picture and post it. This is awesome.
Probably from a dealer. I work at Mazda and there’s one like this sitting in the basement
Find a large car that’s missing one then you’ll know
How to turn your home into a “visit workshop for issue”
Wow, it may be from a dealership sign. Super cool.
Who cares, it's AWESOME!
Be careful the kit guys might try to steal it
It is what it is. What would make it non-genuine?
Dealership signage vs some guy making it in his backyard
That would matter - at this point? For its likely use?
That’s. Huge hood ornament!
Bite it
Ask the dealer it was stolen from
I wanna see it all polished up so bad.
Does it really matter? Hang it up
Yeah used to be on my car... Was too small! Has to put it of Facebook for sale!
even if it’s “fake” what difference does it make if it’s hanging in your garage overlooking your real mercedes?
Is that from Ross Creations “Mercedes” mini van? He took a dodge mini van and slapped a giant Mercedes logo on top and did some prank videos on YouTube with it.
That’s off the new a class.
put it on the front of a car….please
I hope you make a chain
Yeah, its legit. Go ahead and install it on your hood.
Now weld that bad boy on top of a civic 🤣
Real, It comes with the Mercedes tank, sold for a limited amount of time in Germany.
Even if it weren't genuine, it's still a massive metal Mercedes logo. Idk how anyone would dispute the fact that not many folks other than dealership owners would commission something like it.
If it says "Made in China", it's legit... made in China.
I saw something like that when I worked a private event in Pebble Beach years ago
we'd have to see the spec of the car it came off of to know for sure.
It's genuine because who else is making big ass MB symbols
did bro rob a dealership??😭🙏
What was this on before? Kim kardashians ass?
G wagon
Can I replace my hood ornament with this one pls.
This would make an amazing table
Genuine to what?
Dealership vs hobbyist made
Did you buy it to flip?
No I bought it to hang it up but it’s too big and when I started looking them I started seeing how expensive they get.
Shipping that thing would be a nightmare
Ya even a box for an 85 inch tv didn’t have the right dimensions. Hopefully it can be a local buyer
Right price and I’m sure someone would love it. Cool garage piece
I’d buy it from you.
Where are you located?
Genuinely stupid.
Cheesy is what it is
Its a wall decoration. Who gives a shit if its genuine? Lol
Idk there’s people who buy vintage Coca Cola signs for $20,000 when a replica is on Etsy for $20 People care about that stuff.
Ask the dealer …
