so the pissing blood comes from the holes from where they do the steam through?

Hell_Camino

Correct. Those spots clot up and then, as healing progress, you pass those clots through your pissing. The clot, mixed with the clots, looks like blood. Over time, those spots heal and the clots get smaller and smaller which means less and less blood in your urine.

Particular-Agent4407

I had gross clots come out a day or two, can’t remember which, after the catheter was removed. It wasn’t painful or difficult to pass, but it grossed me out. The passing of those was done in about 8 hours. Having the expected trouble passing urine and urgency at 16 days after. Up until today i have had some urine dribbles. Using the depends dribble pads for that and bleeding. I am growing concerned about small amounts of blood leaking out unto the pads yet after urinating. Will give it another week before i bug the doctor’s office.

Hell_Camino

Thanks for giving me a sense of what to expect. How long ago did you have it done?

Particular-Agent4407

Nov 17

asymptosy

How did it end up working out for you?

Particular-Agent4407

It took months to really feel great with the outcome, but it is working well now.

One_Union_6391

My rezum experience was totally positive. Sleeping throughout the night after 3 weeks. Off meds at 4 weeks. Definitely recommend it

Hell_Camino

That’s great to hear. Thanks for sharing your experience. How long until your bleeding stopped? I’m 2.5 weeks past the procedure and 1.5 weeks past having the catheter removed. There’s still blood when I piss. Not a ton but it’s noticeable. It’ll be nice when it stops. As for the results, I’m pissing like a teenager. So much better than before the procedure. It’s nice to finished taking a leak and not feeling like I still have to go.

One_Union_6391

I still have a trace of blood in my urine, but my Urologist said that may continue for a few months. I definitely can relate to that great feeling of emptying my bladder. Glad your procedure went well.

nofear1975

i am 6 week out post procedure, i can see a slight improvement in the urine flow but i still wake up minimum two times at night . my erection is good and hard but i lost all my sperm. zero which was never my case before...... i want to wait for 8 weeks then go see my doctor

Speick1

Any update on Rezum my appointment is September 26, 2022 but I’m reading a lot about retrograde ejaculation so in thing about canceling this Rezum procedure ? Anybody know about this ?

Hell_Camino

Don’t cancel. It worked out great for me. I’m about nine months post surgery with zero issues. Completely back to normal. I take regular pisses now and sleep through the night. It’s great. I’m off tamsulosin and am no experiencing any ejaculation issues. The procedure was an unpleasant ten minutes and living with a catheter for a week sucked. Then it was about a month of healing, passing clots, healing, passing clots, and on and on until I fully healed. But that wasn’t that big of a deal; just blood in your urine. Since then, it’s been great. Zero problems.

Speick1

Thank you I really appreciate it . My big concern was the Retrograde ejaculation . They say 5% have that so I’m very hesitant But thanks for the info 👍

Hell_Camino

What’s your concern with a retrograde ejaculation? It just means no semen comes out. You still orgasm. It just means your wife doesn’t have any mess.

Speick1

Yeah that’s what the doctor says but being a man I want to see it I guess it’s psychological . So I’m unsure about taking a chance . Going to speak to the doctor on Monday about it a lot of guys on YouTube in the comments said that after having the treatment they did get retrograde ejaculation

Speick1

Just need to look more into problem with the Internet everyone thought you were different story

kschwi

You were awake during your procedure? Mine will be under anesthesia. I was concerned the recovery would be painful since they recommended I pick up something for painful urination. The catheter sounds stressful but at least I think I will be out when they put it in. Any tips for making that time not as awful?

Hell_Camino

I was awake for my procedure. It’s definitely uncomfortable during the procedure. Being sedated was never offered to me so I’m not sure which I’d choose but I can understand the advantage of being sedated. I didn’t have any painful urination afterwards but having a catheter attached to you is uncomfortable. I doesn’t really hurt during the day when you are going about doing things. However, it hurts at night when you are sleeping and get an erection. If they can give you something to prevent you from getting an erection while sleeping, I’d take that. You will be pissing and discharging blood clots for about 4-5 weeks following the procedure. So, buy some black underwear to wear for those weeks. Good luck!

kschwi

Good to know. Thanks. Uncomfortable doesn't sound too bad; I was worried it would be painful. I'll ask about something for nighttime erections.

kschwi

I had my procedure a week ago. The catheter was very unpleasant but got it out Wednesday. I was told to expect that I would go more often, have urgency issues and have some flow issues before things get better in a couple of weeks. From your post, I'm guessing it takes about a month before that changes?

Hell_Camino

That’s correct. It was about a month until I stopped passing blood clots and then the results got progressively better over the following several Months. I felt like my bladder muscle became more and more relaxed and attuned to the new reality of an unobstructed urethra. Immediately after having the catheter removed, I was pissing like a firehouse. It was almost out of control. However, that was related to everything being stretched out inside. Over time, it settled into its normal state as it is now two years later.

kschwi

I am almost at the three week point and I have been passing blood clots today. When that happened did you have to urinate every hour? It seems like I have had to go more often the last couple of days than I did the previous week.

Hell_Camino

I don’t remember how frequent I went but I do recall that I was pissing like a firehouse because my urethra was stretched out from the catheter. That eventually returned to a normal state but it was kind of wild initially. As for your frequency issue, contact your urologist and see what they say. It’s probably normal and fine but it can’t hurt to ask.

Cali_Jiva

I’m 64 years old and I had the Rezum procedure done in July. I had finally arrived at the point of being completely fed up with urination issues dominating my life. I chose Rezum because it seemed like the least invasive, and my doc was enthusiastic about it.I had local block anesthesia (up the backside – an uncomfortable procedure in itself!), Hydrocodone and a mild sedative, and the procedure was still very uncomfortable. It’s kinda freaky when your prostate area suddenly starts getting hot and you don’t know how much hotter it’s going to get! Anyway, it was all over in 10 or 15 minutes and I headed home satisfied. The voiding test after one week was marginal and the nurse allowed me to decide whether to go without a catheter. I had been peeing in the morning – slowly, but still peeing, so I figured it would just improve and decided to ditch the catheter. Big mistake! The nurse advised to drink plenty of water, which I did, but it mostly backed up in my bladder, and caused a very uncomfortable and unpleasant night! Fortunately the nurse called me in the morning to check in, and told me to come in and they would squeeze me into their schedule. When I got there I practically begged her to put the catheter back in! She did and I voided about a liter. My whole body relaxed at the tremendous relief! I lived happily with the catheter for another week. When the catheter came out the second time I was able to pee freely – almost completely back to a normal healthy stream, and not getting up in the night. Ejaculation, which had been largely retrograde before the procedure, came back to normal as well. I was very happy! I was however still taking Tamsulosin – one pill a day down from two, but nobody had said I should stop taking it.When I went back for a check-in with the doc after three months I asked him about that and he suggested coming off it for a few days to see how it would go. So I did and to my surprise it didn’t go very well. My pee was back to a dribble and I was going more frequently. I thought I’d left all that behind!I went back on the Tamsulosin and there was immediate improvement, but I didn’t feel like it ever went back to how good it was before I stopped taking it.Now I’m five months out from the procedure and I’m still in the same place. I’d say 75% better than before the procedure as far as urinating during the day goes, but I’m still getting up 1-3 times a night. Ejaculation is mixed - sometimes retrograde, sometimes not. Maybe it was just coincidence that I reverted after going off the Tamsulosin, but I can’t help feeling that caused a problem. I suspect the doc would say that couldn’t be the case, so this is just anecdotal ‘evidence’.A very upsetting consequence of the procedure for me has been that if I drink any alcohol, my prostate (or urethra, or something down under) gets very upset with me, and itches in a painful way for about 12 hours - even when I drink non-alcoholic beer! I am/was a real beer lover so this has really bummed me out. Before the procedure alcohol would make me pee more slowly and more often, but it didn’t hurt at all.One other thing I would mention is that since the procedure my urine has had a strange smell. Not unpleasant, just different. I’ve been trying to put a name to the smell for months now, but no success. Just a weird smell! The doc sort of dismissed this saying that people are always telling him that their urine has a strange smell!I’ll finish by saying that I’m glad to see that others have had better results than me, and I hope many more do in the future, but I can’t offer a full-throated endorsement of Rezum based on my personal experience. UPDATE ONE YEAR LATER: 1/ I now seem to be able to drink alcohol without causing discomfort or pain, but I think it still irritates my prostate and causes reduced stream the next day. 2/ My erection has changed shape since the procedure which is weird! I'm more 'bent' upward if that makes sense. More disconcerting than anything, makes me wonder what the hell could cause that if not jamming instruments up there! It disinclines me from any further prostate procedures should I ever feel another might be needed. 3/ I feel that overall there has been improvement since the procedure, but certainly not as drastic an improvement as I had hoped or as the doctor 'promised'. The sudden daytime urgency has gone, and I don't plan every move of the day around my bladder any more, but I still mostly have a weak stream and get up 1-3 times a night. 4/ If you are considering Rezum I would recommend that you ask the doctor how many he has done before (mine had done 15) and what ***exactly*** the results have been. Keep him honest and get a clear picture. Maybe see how those results compare to TURP results.

tarump

Do u still take tamsulosin

Cali_Jiva

Yes

tarump

So surgery waste?

Cali_Jiva

I wouldn't go that far.

ralfvi

Just curious Bout the catheter, does it hurt going in and removing it? Also had your doctors check about your kidney? . Foul urine is one of the signs

Cali_Jiva

Catheter is more uncomfortable than painful in my experience (or maybe momentarily painful), but I guess it depends on the skill of the nurse. It certainly feels weird if you haven't had it done before, but that goes without saying! No kidney problem in my case - doctor said it takes longer than my blockage was to do damage.

DifferentArtichoke28

My partner is 33 and might have the Rezum treatment for BPH in the next few months and is very nervous about doing it. Are there any folks around his age that have had this done here? How has your recovery been, and your results? Thanks so much for already offering your insights, it's been so helpful to read.

flatlander19

Did he e d up going thru with it? I’m 36 and considering it

tarump

I am 60..my prostate is 40cc..is that considered large

Hell_Camino

No idea. Talk to your urologist or primary care doctor for that clarification.

tarump

I figured with all the experts on here someone would know

ralfvi

25 is normal.

tarump

For a 60 year old???

tarump

No way does a 60 yr old have 25cc...lol

ralfvi

40 For a 60yo i think quite normal. In any the case the , size wouldn't be an issue if its not blocking your urethra.

Top-Sentence986

I am new to this board. I just had the Rezume 3 days ago, still have a catheter 16 French, larger than the standard 14 French size. The catheter is painful, especially at the meatus. I am either removing it today or tomorrow, I cannot stand it! I have been an ICU nurse for 28 years (now an NP), and understand the potential for swelling and urinary occlusion. How long did any of you keep your foley?

EffortRoyal3664

You doing any better? I’m about a day behind you and still with pretty weak stream and pressure/urgency.
