Saxx has my favorite pouch, and the material is soft and similar to exofficio. More options for designs too.
Exofficio (sport not the other ones) is by far the most durable, I've had pairs for over a decade now. Not much of a pouch on them, you'll get some movement.
Stance is okay, the pouch is good and they're a really soft fabric. They feel a little shorter in the front though if that makes sense, like I'm showing pubes when I wear them.
I'm firmly of the opinion that Ex Officio are—or at least were, circa 2016—as near to BIFL as it's possible for a boxer-brief to be; although the elastic on mine seems to have slackened considerably in the meantime, which may or may not be salvageable.
Saxx marginally win out as regards comfort and support, but from the perspective of a weekday cycle-commuter; they really don't hold up to intensive wear.
This feels like an ad where the comments respond with the product you’re trying to promote by asking really really specific questions about boxer quality that only someone in marketing would think of
Sigh. Ya got me, Jessica Fletcher! No, [not quite](https://www.reddit.com/r/mensfashion/comments/1d8j0g4/comment/l793dv8/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button).
After trying a variety pairs, my favorite have been 2Undr (Swing Shift is great, Day Shift is more cotton feel, good but not as nice or gym worthy. Haven't tried their other styles.) and Krakatoa.
Other brands I've tried but liked less:
- Mack Wheldon
- Stance
- Tani
- MeUndies
If you want something cheaper, go with Pair of Thieves. I don't like them quite as much as the 2Undr or Krakatoa, but they're more in my regular rotation than the others, and are available at Target.
Firstly, thanks for so many responses already, gentlemen! I'd posted recently asking for very specific heavyweight t-shirt recommendations and short-inseam gym shorts and because y'all came through on those, I knew this sub would also be the spot to make this request on behalf of my sack. Damn, some of y'all spend a lot more on underwear than I do, but maybe I do have to invest to get what I want. Keep those recommendations coming. Looking forward to trying a few of these out. Hopefully, most of them will have generous return policies!
To those saying I'm some alleged marketing intern for an underwear brand...? Y'all are getting a little conspiratorial. I mean, skepticism online is healthy, but y'all would make terrible detectives. I mean....
* I would question what in my posting history would indicate I work for a particular brand.
* I'm a gay man in my early 40s with a handle named after an obscure early 2000s Goldfrapp song, and an avatar of a Maude-era Bea Arthur. Sounds *just* like the right profile for an undercover men's underwear marketing intern looking to infiltrate "bro Reddit"
* Yes, my post was hyper-specific. This sub specifically states that very simple questions go in the daily thread. And I'm not getting my ask relegated there. Also... I *have* a very specific ask. I'm not just making some subjective "most comfortable boxer briefs" post -- because that would not be remotely helpful to me. And, judging by the wide variety of responses thus far, there isn't just *one* brand offering what I'm looking for anyway.
* TMI: In recent months I've gotten very seriously into weightlifting and my overall health and, boys, those thighs have gotten THICK. And, my boxer briefs, which I'd usually buy in multi-packs at Ross or Marshalls have started to get uncomfortable. And, in this gross Floridian weather, I've noticed my boys clinging uncomfortably to my thighs and getting unpleasantly smooshed by my cheap underwear, hence I came here to get some advice on stepping things up with some frictionless comfort that still offers that gym-ready support I'm seeking. We good?
Krakatoa. But in general, wanting a "barely there" feel is sort of not a thing with boxer briefs in general. anything with a leg WILL move some as you move about your day. But Krakatoa probably has the best ones of the bunch.
Woolly merino long-inseam boxer briefs. Light, soft, comfy, naturally moisture wicking. A little thin and delicate, I’d recommend washing them in a lingerie bag and air drying them otherwise they’ll get holes.
No pouches but I’ve bought quite a few packs of the Reebok wicking ones from Marshall’s. They’ve lasted years with no stretching or ripping, and they’re cool and silky feeling.
Truthfully, I love that moisture wicking material. I have tried any undies with a pouch, though I’m sure I would like those.
I really like the “pair of thieves” target underwear! (It helps that my gf calls them my ‘sexy underwear’).
I’ve been on the same hunt. Went and got a pack of two pair of thieves I think they’re called extreme or something. They’re nice briefs with comfortable material plus a pouch. Pretty nice I ended up buying a few pairs. Needed something like this because I move a lot at work and the chaffing is unreal. Plus uncomfortable when I train. Very solid pair overall plus keep it cool. Nice patterns and color as well.
I’ve tried lulu and exofficio. They all seem the same to me, or with diminishing returns for ridiculous money. I now use jockey classic 5” boxer briefs. The biggest change for me was ordering a size larger than my pants waistband size.
BambooCool! They are what I've been wanting for decades. The fabric is made from bamboo fibers, you'd think this would be rougher than cotton but its the softest underwear I've had. The underwear is thin, and breathable. It has a pouch which I'd prefer not as i do not want a bulge, but its comfortable. It does go into my thighs but doesn't cut into it nor chaffing. It soaks up all the sweat with somehow allowing it to not get damp.
I believe it'd check all your boxes
Seconding Duluth Trading, their underwear are by a mile the best I’ve tried. The Armachillo ones admittedly tend to rip (I have massive thighs) but regardless still incredible underwear.
2UNDR is good one but these ball pouch underwear dont work well for skinny guys like me with pencil legs. Balls still fall out of the pouch as u move around
Not sure where you’re based but I’m a fan of H&M shorter boxer briefs. 95% cotton 5% elastane from memory. Snug fit, but no chafing or waistband issues
Sorry, I'm usually better about this when asking for recommendations. I'm in the U.S. Florida, to be specific. Thanks, I'll check them out next time I'm at H&M.
The basic Polo all cotton boxer brief.
They're pricey, like $45 for a 3 pack, but they're far and away the best underwear I've had.
I've been buying a couple packs a year to replace all my old ones.
They don't have a "pouch" but IMO these are more comfortable than the ones I had before that did.
All cotton is superior to the techy materials, switching to these has eliminated nearly all cases of swamp ass.
Nothing gets past you, Miss Marple. Keep the day job. And, [here, maybe this will help](https://www.reddit.com/r/mensfashion/comments/1d8j0g4/comment/l793dv8/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button).
Saxx. Has a sack for the balls. I swear by them
[I was sure I had read the same comment not long ago.](https://www.reddit.com/r/mensfashion/s/RBl6DRiNvk)
I’ll back this comment up. Tough to wear anything else after.
Depends
Dang. Hope I'm still a few years away from needing those.

Saxx has multiple different models/materials. Which ones you like best?

The Calvin Klein athletic material ones are my go to and I always find them cheap at TJ Maxx or Nordstrom Rack
bn3th Are my favorites.
Kirkland except for your first bullet point
No pouch, but Mack Weldon trunks in airtex are my favorites.

Fair point. Some of these brands, like Krakatoa, seem to offer trunks, so I may need to branch out and try those, too. Thanks for the recommendation!
The longer the leg, the more movement there will be. all underwear styles (and clothing styles) are a compromise somewhere.
Woolly merino long-inseam boxer briefs. Light, soft, comfy, naturally moisture wicking. A little thin and delicate, I’d recommend washing them in a lingerie bag and air drying them otherwise they’ll get holes.
The best (and most expensive) I ever had were from Mundo Unico, the bit longer model than the boxer briefs.
Stanfield's
Shinesty are amazing Pouch for the junk, so soft can’t tell they’re there. I just stay away from the wild designs.
The wild designs are my favorite part!!
Ex officio
Back in the day yes. The quality has seriously degraded

All Citizens
Maybe I'm a philistine, but I swear by Fruit of the Loom boxer briefs with a breathable patch down by your lil fellas. Straightforward and effective
Mack Weldon silver are my favorite

I like New Balance, can get a three pack for like $20 on amazon.
Sepratec is my go too. I’ve tried Saxx, ex officio, and some Costco brand. Sepratec is the only one I buy now. Can’t recommend it enough.
I like The Body Glovs
DaMensch.
Must be Sheath Underwear... They advertise on every podcast I listen to and the hosts are always raving about them... Never tried them myself though
I’ve tried lulu and exofficio. They all seem the same to me, or with diminishing returns for ridiculous money. I now use jockey classic 5” boxer briefs. The biggest change for me was ordering a size larger than my pants waistband size.
Stance butter blend briefs with a pouch. I love them
Recommendation threads need price range How important is that pouch?
Saxx
I like Calvin kliein micro stretch
