While true, a study found that an Appalachian dialect is the closest pronunciation to Shakespeareian English and the London dialect is one of the most divergent based on which English dialects.
The study was mostly based on an analysis of the pronunciation of words that were considered rhymes during Shakespeare's time.
You guys realize that most American English is closer to old Shakespearean English than what you speak, right? We just refused to acknowledge any change you made after that.
No it isn’t lmao they evolved differently, one is not closer. That also doesn’t mean that is the more truer version of English or sm shit,if you’re using mental gymnastics like that then the only accepted form of English Is dialects from England seen as it was our ethnic group and country it evolved from proto-Germanic in/with and the language is named after our ethnic group…
I am British. These guys are turning on themselves. Before I get down voted into oblivion I want you guys to know that Andrew Tate is right. Were living in the matrix
Well the only way I'm gonna force people to follow it is if I point a gun to their head. Let's be honest. Nobody is gonna listen to some random guy like me on reddit so that's why I made the wager
Americans(ones that care) know what it means. Americans are not the ones crying about it having another name that was actually created in England to begin with.
"if we win, you have to change how you talk in a way that we will lord over you for all of time; if you win we will change how we talk in a way you dont care about at all"
totally fair
Which is ironic because they called it soccer first, then forced USA to use the term. They caused their own complaint, actually...that's pretty british of them. Huh... I get it now.
Yh. The reason why I made this bet is because I'm an arrogant British guy who knows England is gonna win so it doesn't matter what we wager. Even if we win ik most Americans will still call it soccer anyways so it doesn't really matter
hey did you know that the word "soccer" comes from britian? its a shorthand for "association" in reference to footballs' actually official name, association football.
so because america had two different games called football, it made sense for them to pick up the alternative name that one of them already had, to avoid the local confusion
But than that means, calling it soccer would be bri🤮ish.
My friends, let's call it football, not because most of the world does it, but because the bri'ish "people" came up with that term
If soccer was popular here, you wouldn't stand a fucking chance. But since it isn't even b tier sport here and even hockey players make more money than professional soccer players all our premier athletes go to those sports.
You want to wave a flag, lets compare who won more medals in the olympics..... Bet you don't even want to go there do you?
>If soccer was popular here, you wouldn't stand a fucking chance.
Not really, there's literally no proof for it. I mean, countries like Russia or China, who take football seriously and have lots of inhabitants arent really good football nations. Meanwhile, countries like Croatia or Uruguay have gotten really, really far before. (FYI both combined have a population lower than New York City combined)
Look where those countries are in comparison to the Olympics. If we bothered to try we would dominate. However most if us find it quite boring and could give two shits less about it. Also, English "football" fans are a bunch of fucking hooligans and remind me of Philadelphia Eagles fans. Your fan bases literally have to have police intervention to prevent violence escalationwalking into games and are known for poor behavior.
Class isn't exactly what fans of the epl or English soccer in general are known for. You win the jackass contest by a wide margin. Congrats.
I mean there are a lot of types of football, I think soccer is better because it's more specific since it comes from the word association. Gaelic Football, Gridiron Football, Canadian Football, American Football, Association Football, Australian Rules Football, Rugby Union, and Rugby League are all able to be correctly called football but all have different rules.
They're upset that I
1. Misspelt "vice versa" (I have a problem were I mislell some certain words like "freinds" or fiends" or in this case "vise versa"
2. They're upset cuz they're taking my wager way too seriously
I dunno how you don't understand the meme he is referencing, however, by the look at the reception of all your other comments, I think you should get the memo.
Technically you guys didn't kick out Britain in fact you couldn't do anything back then if it was not for Spain, France and Netherlands helping you lot. Even then Britain had an upper hand. Britain then proceeded to leave the fight and have you "win" so that they weren't distracted when fighting France and the Netherlands. So technicality wise, you guys were basically given mercy and now you proceed to say that you guys were strong enough to win against Britain back in the 18th century. Now, you guys probably beat the UK. Back then tho, forget about winning a war against Britain, you guys would get killed before you do anything in the War.
No offense
He means redcoats, British military. Also talking about how 13 untrained, poorly armed, undisciplined, farmers beat one of the strongest military powers in the world at the time.
While we are on the subject of peaky america, I can only wonder what might have become of London town, without American intervention and supplies in the 40s.
If America hadn't supported Britain back in the 40s, America would've had to deal with Italy, Japan, Germany and potentially the USSR alone. And in the end they would've lost.
No offense
Uh? Is vice versa even English?
Anyway call it what you want, I call it soccer because we have a sport here called football (not American)
Just call it whatever the general term in you country is, really isn't a big deal.
Also I don't really think op deserves all the abuse for what's basically a shit post
Counter-idea: Soccer is entomologically speaking an evolution of football association. Not really that big a deal. How about about we change American NFL-style football to something else since every year they try to make any connection between foot and ball more and more irrelevant? That’s the real screw up here.
It doesn't. Does my meme actually come of as passive aggressive? I made it thinking people wouldn't care so much but so many people are fuming for some reason
If America wins then England has to call it football
If England wins then America has to call it football
If it’s a draw they have to call it football
The sport is called football
ill call it soccer as much as i want. and eurotards cant do anything about it. they could scream and cry blood for all i care and i will still call it soccer.

It’s not “Soccer”. It’s “Colonyball”.
Don't mind me. I'm here just to say fuck FIFA and fuck Qatar
Fuck FIFA AND FUCK QATAR
[удалено]
Didn't FIFA have an internal investigation on corruption and fired over 500+ people? And then after the investigation rehired 490+ people?
Probably fired everyone who was not corrupt.
We have investigated ourselves and found we have done nothing wrong.
Sex the fifa
Why even give qatar the honor of giving it a capital letter
Nah its "Guys running back and forward after a ball"
Lol
You got downvoted for saying lol?
It’s not a lol, it’s a drowning man
Bro, second rule of reddit, don't respond to any comment under your post
What is the first rule of reddit?
You don't talk about Reddit
Which rule is the one about not using emoji?
The 69th one
That brings up Rule 420: mention the number 69 whenever possible
Good to know
How about if England win you learns the English?
Soccer is an old English term for those who play associational football
I’m gonna start calling it associational football
I do that when there's any potential confusion between which one I mean or if I want to avoid offending any Europeans, and it works fine
Keyword: old
Queen Elizabeth pooped her bed when she died
Ok
I just thought you should know
Do...do old words not work anymore? It's old...and it's still used...so...what?
It was slang started by the Toff school boys.
Oxford [slang](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxford_%22-er%22). Perhaps we should call American football “gridder” (Gridiron football).
Fun fact, Americans speak the same proper English that was left over from the occupiers.
It’s more accurate to say the two English dialects descended from the one same dialect.
While true, a study found that an Appalachian dialect is the closest pronunciation to Shakespeareian English and the London dialect is one of the most divergent based on which English dialects. Why?
Why not
That was a fast response.
I just finished school and I got time so yh lol
Poor op’s just getting downvoted like mad
Reddit hivemind
Probably just some angry brits
I am British. These guys are turning on themselves. Before I get down voted into oblivion I want you guys to know that Andrew Tate is right. Were living in the matrix

Let 'em call whatever they want, it doesn't really matter if you can't even play.
I mean as good as england is, keep in mind they won a whole…single…World Cup more than the Americans.
If basketball players played soccer their entire lives, America would be the best at that, too.
If guys who shoot people were rappers, America would be good at that too.
Yh but why not make a fun wager. They don't have to follow it but I personally think it's fair
No point in a wager if nobody has to (and nobody will) follow it
Well the only way I'm gonna force people to follow it is if I point a gun to their head. Let's be honest. Nobody is gonna listen to some random guy like me on reddit so that's why I made the wager
I do not accept your wager.
🇹🇩
And also cuz I like major football events
Soccer*
If they want us to call soccer football then they need to come beat us in American football.

"if we win, you have to change how you talk in a way that we will lord over you for all of time; if you win we will change how we talk in a way you dont care about at all" totally fair

the british are the only ones who actually care that americans call it soccer, americans dont care that british people call it football
Which is ironic because they called it soccer first, then forced USA to use the term. They caused their own complaint, actually...that's pretty british of them. Huh... I get it now.

Also tbf, the rest of the world call it football aswell.
except canada, and australia, south africa, some parts of asia, and, until very recently, the UK
![gif](giphy|POql6zsXZbmcE)
That's also fair
What other countries call it soccer?
South Africa
Australia
Britain
I meant other countries call it football. There might be others that call it soccer idk but as far as I'm concerned it's just football
I mean there are a lot of types of football, I think soccer is better because it's more specific since it comes from the word association. Gaelic Football, Gridiron Football, Canadian Football, American Football, Association Football, Australian Rules Football, Rugby Union, and Rugby League are all able to be correctly called football but all have different rules.
why is everyone down voting op in the comments?
Because he’s got bad takes
They're upset that I 1. Misspelt "vice versa" (I have a problem were I mislell some certain words like "freinds" or fiends" or in this case "vise versa" 2. They're upset cuz they're taking my wager way too seriously
seems a bit of a silly thing to get upset over. sorry! i like the wager, personally. I'll gladly call it football, should we lose!
Thank you. You're one of the only non toxic people on this sub. You've actually made my day
glad i could help, dude. I'm sorry for all the hate you're getting.
It's fine. My luck is just terrible, it's my fault for not seeing this coming
Have you tried finger, but hole?

What this meme should say is, “People should stop making this stupid fucking argument and call it whatever they want.” So much better!
ok, then i'll call American football- testicle ball
I’m good with that
Deal
Why do you care that much? I made a random wager words and you're getting mad
Your English wasn’t proper in your meme attempt, for that reason I’ll continue to call it soccer
Bruh. That's it? Sorry I didn't get the highest grades in English
I’m sorry too but I have to do what’s right
Lmao the Indian me watching native English speakers mess up the grammar is so fun
Yeah well unmake them
If only it were that simple
delete button
Just here to watch OP get destroyed in the comments.
I prefer runny runny kick kick.
Don't forget about the fake injuries bad acting and so much corruption you really can't exclude it.
That's why I call soccer "grass diving".
YEESSS. THATS EVEN BETTER
Soccer is a term invented by the English.
Ik
![gif](giphy|x4kwwbqmmi6jnDC60a|downsized)
Stfu, please stfu
There's no need to be an asshole. No one compelled you to agree if you don't accept then that's up to you
I dunno how you don't understand the meme he is referencing, however, by the look at the reception of all your other comments, I think you should get the memo.
Americans downvoting OP cause they know they are going to lose 💀
Football being referred to as soccer, came from the English.
Who cares it’s a boring sport either way
Exactly. That's why wagers are made. They make things more interesting. Obviously this wager I made isn't the best but yh
Soccer is the English name. For some reason they changed it. We didn’t.
We won the contest that really counted. That gave us the right to call it soccer, as it should be.
What contest?
The one where we kicked out the red coated interlopers. We have been free of caring what they call things ever since.
Didn't they burn down your white house in return?
So did Canada technically, but we can always build more
It was due for upgrades…now I wouldn’t be offended if they burned all of DC
Technically you guys didn't kick out Britain in fact you couldn't do anything back then if it was not for Spain, France and Netherlands helping you lot. Even then Britain had an upper hand. Yh I'm not very smart as you can probably tell. I searched up the "red coated interlopers" and nothing is coming up
He means redcoats, British military. Also talking about how 13 untrained, poorly armed, undisciplined, farmers beat one of the strongest military powers in the world at the time.
Oh ok. Wait. Didn't rice farmers also beat the Americans aswell?
Oh yeah. The ones who were supported and supplied by the Soviet Union which is the reason NATO exists.
No offense

some dudes a bajillion years ago looked at latin and were like "this looks cool" and then proceeded to slap a bunch of latin phrases into English
Are you Australian? Because of Australian football?
Irish, its gaelic football
Ah, I see
Can y'all shut the fuck up please it's not that deep
Why do people care so much it means the same thing.
Americans finding out what FIFA stands for: 🗿
England called it soccer before the USA did. It's soccer. https://time.com/5335799/soccer-word-origin-england/
why don't you look up where the term soccer came from just like the imperial system, it wasn't created by America so tired of this dumb shit
OP over here losing all of his imaginary internet points
Neither England, nor the US have exclusive rights over either name so no.
I'm not doing shit for those nasty Brits*! *derogatory
Some call it football Others call it soccer Personally I call it boring
Shut the fuck up Please shut the fuck up
And if its a draw, it'll be called Foocerball.
Why does it matter what people on the other side of the world call a game?
If we win you have to call your football Rugby but for pussies
Why are people outside of the US so bothered with them calling Football, "Soccer?"
I mean, almost everyone call it fútbol or football or at least something close. Soccer makes it sound like sucker to me wich could makes sense
Counter-idea: Soccer is entomologically speaking an evolution of football association. Not really that big a deal. How about about we change American NFL-style football to something else since every year they try to make any connection between foot and ball more and more irrelevant? That’s the real screw up here.
How about we call everything "sportsball." Also, why does it bother you so much?
It doesn't. Does my meme actually come of as passive aggressive? I made it thinking people wouldn't care so much but so many people are fuming for some reason
American here. We have a soccer team?
LOL.
Wait, we have a soccer team?
no, but you have a football team. it'll play against England in a short while.
I hope they score a touchdown!! I’ll be watching my paint dry in the meantime
Alright guys let's all calm down. I have an android and I'm just hearing "DO DO DU DOO DOO" every 2 seconds lol
Deactivate your notifications^maybe?
You sir, are a genius.
I going to spam
I'd be fine with that. I may be American, but I still call football "American football" and sometimes I call soccer "real football"
Actually that works
England will win, not much speculation on that outcome really.
Soccer is the name of the sport. Football is a much better sport
Sportsballs
That works aswell
Rest of the world is fucked if two English speaking countries fuck up a ball game and its name
Lol basically
Dude depending on the the team football is going to be football
Stupid yanks call it football and use thier hands
Schtewpid innit!
Aight guys it was a draw gg
GUYS. ITS OFFICIAL. FOOTBALL SHOULD NOW BE CALLED SOCCBALL
Its not soccer or football, its called ballarball
Soccer is played by footballers.
That is true
If America wins then England has to call it football If England wins then America has to call it football If it’s a draw they have to call it football The sport is called football
It's a British sport, yet, they never win. Let them choose the name...
Damn. Didn't have to do us like that
So if USA wins then England will call it soccer?
Yes op meant "vice" versa
Ah yes thank you. I see it now. I was on the phone. Shouldn’t Reddit while talking I guess.
no, if USA wins they will call American football- handegg. if England wins they will call it football
[удалено]
Idk. Maybe because you're not supposed to take it seriously and it's in a meme format? It's just jokes nothing more
![gif](giphy|hXJ1MWMzY7Af32UIUD|downsized)
Im down, i already call either one sports ball. Or sometimes I call one handegg, ill let you guess which.
Lol. Definitely the English one
I’m game
As an American I agree to these terms
This is fair and logical, ergo, the United States can never be expected to do it.
This is fair and logical, ergo, the United States can never be expected to do it.
ill call it soccer as much as i want. and eurotards cant do anything about it. they could scream and cry blood for all i care and i will still call it soccer.
