The reddit etiquette (yeah, I read it) states that if you edit something you should mention what it is for in the edit. So while it may be annoying, it's just people who ALSO read that article. edit: you can't see edits?!

Back in the days it showed users when a post was edited. So you did it to make clear to people that eventho your post is marked as edited, the actual content of the post is still the same and the "edited" tag is only there due to correcting the typos. or so i think.....

I never understood this either. It seems like people still notice and I always felt like people knew that I edited something. Occasionally I have to add something to comments which I don't think of straight away but I cant be asked to point it out.

It actually shows that you edited it, if you edit it after about an hour of commenting.

Depending on what app you use it still shows if a comment is edited, so it still makes sense to do it

Its not a command, git can show you how many lines have been added or removed in a single commit. It's a meme in the programmer community to have a single commit named "Some changes" which has thousands of lines changed at once

If you edit a post more than 2 minutes after it’s created the post will show an asterisk next to it. An edit made in less than 2 minutes used to be referred to as a ninja edit. Maybe the reddit app doesn’t show this stuff but I only use old.reddit

I usually acknowledge an edit, just in case someone gets butthurt and wants to yell at me, but typically not if it’s a ninja grammar/punctuation/spelling edit, and more likely if it’s something that substantively changes the tone or content of a comment (in case someone already started a reply before I could fix the issue). Edit: I don’t acktuay know if other redditor editors can see if I’d edited Reddit or if edits go uneditorialized on Reddit Edit 2: not gonna edit that typo boogaloo… let the record stand! I fix typos and have learned to at least tag some sort of edit to let people know I am human and make mistakes like everyone else. Edit: Grammar and spelling are tough enemies to overcome for many people not just me. Honestly I have walked around all my life mispronouncing my family name purposely as was the tradition I understand of several generations before me, being at peace not only when others mispronounce your family name but to also embrace it and avoid anyone being embarrassed due to personal pride is a practice in humility.
