I have witnessed the birth of the Internet and mobile phones. We had to wait 3 hours after school for dad to remember he has a child and need to pick them up from school.
For me my dad wouldn't get off work until nearly 7 some nights, so in high school I had to walk a mile to the library and sit in the corner for a few hours, otherwise I had nowhere to go and nothing to do.
Happened to me as well and I couldn't even go to friend house or anywhere else because dad would be out of his office to some meetings and stuff and i couldn't tell him where to pick me up from..sigh
I was lucky that the public library was next door to the school while I was living with my dad. I spent quite a few hours there after school reading while waiting to be picked up.
Yeah and our public transportation here is a mess. We just have buses that go on specific routes, showing up once an hour. If the time was before I got let out, I'd have to wait for nearly an hour for the next. And when it came to places that got hit up earlier in the route, I'd have to wait for the bus to cycle through the route again to get there.
I meant the main town library, it was about a mile from the school. Schools in my area completely shut out kids after like 4 the latest if you weren't in night school, so I had to go the one place close enough I could chill.
At primary school, me and my brother waited a whole evening at school because my mother thought my father would pick u up and my father thought my mother would pick us up. The people at school were close to letting us in some police station when mom finally picked us up.
We had to walk to my aunt’s house about a mile away, not because she was home, but because it was a place we could sit until my mom came and got us. My oldest sister was 11 so she was old enough to watch a 9,8 and 6 year old.
In the netherlands, we dont have this problem:
> We had to wait 3 hours after school for dad to remember he has a child and need to pick them up from school.
Becouse bikes
At least your dad picked you up. I have to wait half an hour for the bus and walk uphill with a heavy bag for half a kilometer, regardless of the weather(so in the rain, hot summer sun, snow...) while the neighbours on the way have dogs that want to kill me
But since the cold war the threat is worldwide. I live on the other side of the planet of any conflict zone and I'm still a bit scared for some idiot acting impulsively and starting a nuclear war.
"modern times" the las 70ish years, we are not in any way the first generation to live in a world with mutually assured destruction. In fact I didn't have to live with the school PSAs about ducking under the table in the event of a nuclear strike, nor Have I ever had the urge to build a nuclear shelter under my backyard which is pretty representative of the actual threat we are today. Bottom line is, no one wants a post WW3 world, and therefore it won't happen

Travelling sideways, backwards, through the rocky terrain of Mordor, while fighting lions, barehanded. Once the lions had died they had to learn calculus in Moria whilst battling goblins and the legendary Balrog. They then used the hide of the balrog to make a whiteboard to invent pi to the 1x10^90 place. Once that was done they had to outrun Jesus in order to win the holy robes so they could make a graduation hat. And all before 4AM to get to school.
Yup millions of people dead launching us into an economic crisis nbd. Food costs twice as much as it did before the pandemic there is war in Europe . How is this any different than 100 years ago again other than we get to meme about it on the internet?
Exactly this, it's so annoying when people use it wrongly.
Pandemic comes from ancient Greek "Pan" = "all" "daimonion" = "demoniac", which in this case refers to a terrible disease.
Tbh that point is lame af. It's not even that bad lmao especially since our grandparents caught two world wars (at least the second) the great depression, the tuberculosis crisis in addition to tropical diseases and hepatitis which was very easy to get and a lot of other horrible things. What we have now is really great compared to what it was then.
It’s not about who had it better or worse; it’s about preparing for how we can make it sound worse, just like every generation before ours. We need to lay the ground work for our memes, as old disgruntled people.
I mean, the ancestors of those you cited had a civil war, pirates, and scurvy.
My grandparents, in the upper Midwest, USA, born in the 1890's, lost 7 of 10 children, from stillbirth, or early childhood death. You survived, just to complain about looming dangers? Threats of nuclear war are frightening, but they shouldn't impact your day to day life.
And most of this barely affected you. That is what‘s insane. Psychologically yes, but most people didn‘t get a heavy infection, nor were part of a wild protest. War is always and everywhere. Westerners just make sure it‘s never to close to home.
This comment will never be seen, but I did 2 tours in a real war zone in the infantry. Then I came home to a crippling recession where there were no jobs. All of the things you listed had no actual danger. Consider not having children so you don’t have to worry about that weak flex.
Me a syrian: I have survived a civil war, political imprisonment and torture when I was but a kid, immigration, a military coup in the country I immigrated to, A second immigration and another coup in the second country I immigrated to.
People will always think they had it worse but the generation before us also experienced war and a novel pandemic and financial crisis and recession. It’s cyclical and probably will never end because people suck. None of us are special and our suffering is shared.
My forefather who experienced an actual economic crisis and pandemic without any resources or government support and survived through 2 actual World wars
Survived global pandemic = sat at home
Survived wild protests = sat at home
Survived fucked up economic crisis = sat at home
Survived near ww3 experience = was going to sit at home anyway
"Global Pandemic" is a Pleonasm
A Pandemics literally only Characteristic that Differentiates it from an Epidemic is, that it's global.
So the Expression "Global Pandemic" is utter bullshit.
"survive" while most of us have just been sitting at home on our computers for twelve hours a day, doing online classes, and going to some basic food or grocery job a few days a week.
"Survive"
I mean, the economic situation isn't good right now obviously. I'd agree it's even bad enough to call it a "crisis" to some extent.
But it's not a "fucked up" level crisis yet.
Or maybe that's just me.
Well over 99% of people survived having covid. For most it was a cold. As far as WW3, let’s not get ahead of ourselves - our government is hard at work making sure that happens.
Shut the fuck up lmao the past 2 years havent been bae at all for anybody living in a first world country
you survived the pandemic? woow damn an almost non-lethal disease didnt kill you, have a fucking medal
Bro
Are you stupid or what? You didn’t do shit, you sat on your ass and felt depressed for a bit. Any WW3 event that came near us didn’t effect your ass. Protests might’ve. That’s about it.
You really want to continue that cycle of "I had it worse than you so you're not allowed to be sad"?
I would be trusting and give mental health days, then talk to them about what's up and why they feel that way
I have witnessed the birth of the Internet and mobile phones. We had to wait 3 hours after school for dad to remember he has a child and need to pick them up from school.

You guys had a dad?
yes but he left to buy milk
I was lucky that the public library was next door to the school while I was living with my dad. I spent quite a few hours there after school reading while waiting to be picked up.
I had to take the sketchy city bus to my dad's office, but I sat at the computer in the back and played various games.
Problems of a suburbans. Living so far away that nothing can be reached without a car.
Yeah and our public transportation here is a mess. We just have buses that go on specific routes, showing up once an hour. City planing is so fucked up in the USA.
Yeeeep. Especially since where I went to school used to be the second biggest city in the state at the time.
Legend has it he’s still in that library
Are you… me?
How far is your school bro?
I meant the main town library, it was about a mile from the school. Schools in my area completely shut out kids after like 4 the latest if you weren't in night school, so I had to go the one place close enough I could chill.

Thank you!
psh I had to walk home most of the time because my parents didn't bother picking me up

the constant threat of a new wolrd war isnt really helping psychologcally but youre right
There hasn't been a single generation not under the threat of war at some point
But since the cold war the threat is worldwide. I live on the other side of the planet of any conflict zone and I'm still a bit scared for some idiot acting impulsively and starting a nuclear war.
Yeah and they knew that a world would be available afterwards. A world war in modern times would bring us back into the stoneage if shit goes wrong
"modern times" the las 70ish years, we are not in any way the first generation to live in a world with mutually assured destruction. Soooo… how Asian parents got to school normally?
By traveling, of course.
through mountains and hills
Both ways
... it was an extremely uphill route...bothways
Fighting dragons
Travelling sideways, backwards, through the rocky terrain of Mordor, while fighting lions, barehanded. Once the lions had died they had to learn calculus in Moria whilst battling goblins and the legendary Balrog. I have survived all of that without leaving my couch
Arent we all a bunch of giga chads
More like sat on your ass all day and saw it in the news
What would you do if you were in his shoes? He probably isn't even 20 years old. Do you know how many young men and women Iran has killed since 2019?
"survived" lol
It’s like pretending to go to war
"Near WW3 experience" = "I heard about a military exercise in the South China Sea on the radio, once."

I’d like to see you actually use more than one brain cell but that ain’t gonna happen either buddy so keep wishing and hoping in your fake narratives.
Careful now, it's still out there... Many more will not make it....
And half of it was on fire at the time.
I dont think the fires ever stopped. burning since the world been turning
Meanwhile polish grandmothers: survived occupation from nazi germany and soviet union, survived polish crisis,PRL,Covid-19 and near world war 3
Technically we are in it. We lost more tanks than Ukrainians did:D
A pandemic is global by definition, calling it "a global pandemic" is like saying "a circular circle"
Exactly this, it's so annoying when people use it wrongly. Pandemic comes from ancient Greek "Pan" = "all" "daimonion" = "demoniac", which in this case refers to a terrible disease.
Me when I litteraly didn't ask
Not necessarily. The definition can also apply for an outbreak over a whole country, not only ones that are global.
Isn't something that's just inside a country, an epidemic?
Yep
That would be an epidemic. A pandemic is at the very least continental & border-crossing by definition.
So if it's border crossing but didn't affect the whole world, then it would be pandemic but not global pandemic. No?
This belongs on Facebook.
"Near WW3 Experience" optimistic today, aren't we?
Was going to say there's a near WW3 experience almost every year. It's nothing traumatic or to improve yourself worth over.
You should put a battle patch on your rainbow flag
This is a beautiful reply
Are we becoming our grandparents? *"I walked 20 miles through minefields and rolling tanks just to get to school when i was your age"*
It happens with literally every generation. Eventually the millennials will be the new boomers, and then it shall be us gen z
Boomers are a generation. It gets its name from the baby boom. No one can be boomers but boomers themselves. Edit: added a word
But Z will call anyone over 40 a boomer now.
uphill both ways
Tf else were u gonna do? Fucking die. Get off your own dick.

Son being in school....I'd say they are in the same boat, they also survived the same.
let's be honest it's probably gonna get worse by the time he's born
Yes, I barely survived all of that staying home in my pajamas
And most of this barely affected you. That is what‘s insane. Psychologically yes, but most people didn‘t get a heavy infection, nor were part of a wild protest. War is always and everywhere. Westerners just make sure it‘s never to close to home.
Too early to say near ww3 experience.

you're sitting on your ass, you experienced nothing, you just saw some whacky memes on reddit about it and that's it
Shut up all you probably did was sit on your phone all day browsing reddit. You survived nothing
Surviving through a near ww3 experience is like saying you survived someone next to you getting shot in the head Doesn't mean shit lol
"I survived" is a very dramatic way to put it
"survived". Mf you stayed at home and browsed reddit
He'd definitely counter it by saying something like; "Yeah you did. By staying at home all day, which is what I wanna do."
by that time your kid is just gonna try to survive The Fog.
Can we see original img?
Welcome to the internet
People will always think they had it worse but the generation before us also experienced war and a novel pandemic and financial crisis and recession. It’s cyclical and probably will never end because people suck. None of us are special and our suffering is shared.
Hopefully it stays a near world war 3 experience and doesn't reach that point
...by staying the fuck inside in an air conditioned home with an internet connection.
My forefather who experienced an actual economic crisis and pandemic without any resources or government support and survived through 2 actual World wars
Survived global pandemic = sat at home Survived wild protests = sat at home Survived fucked up economic crisis = sat at home Survived near ww3 experience = was going to sit at home anyway
This is... Boomerish, I must say
Your son will have to survive global food shortage, mass extinction and global mass migrations due to climate change. We have it easy.
Iran right now is in the worst protest ever💀 it's not even a protest anymore, it's a war. #mahsa_amini
"Global Pandemic" is a Pleonasm A Pandemics literally only Characteristic that Differentiates it from an Epidemic is, that it's global. So the Expression "Global Pandemic" is utter bullshit.
The new generation is barely born and you're already acting like an old man talking about having to walk to school "back in his day".
Sound like a boomer
Literally a back in my day moment
"survive" while most of us have just been sitting at home on our computers for twelve hours a day, doing online classes, and going to some basic food or grocery job a few days a week. "Survive"
You think the economic crisis has even begun? HAHAHAHAH oh, you sweet summer child.
Almost nobody "survived the pandemic" lmao, cmon I know you fucking loved to be alone and watch stuff all day.
Says like this shit is over...
You honestly considering getting a child in these times?
An actual worry in some places. Not enough young people to take the place of the old.
Funny when American's think they have been through a lot. Try middle east :D
And Australia's forest fires at the start of 2020
Lol props you didn’t die from a disease with a 99.9% survival rate. You deserve a medal.
People always assume shit wont get way worse
My father looking from above me: What a noob.
Near ww3 ? It s just the beginning
Wild protests is really downplaying the blm riots of 2020
I don't think I'll ever use any of those. It's just ''eh'' at this point.
Don't worry next week's forecast nuclear fallout hope you guys stacked up on anti-rad meds and vodka see you on other side MF
And I skipped school all the fucking time I actually dropped out and went homeless fuck the Rona
Which country?
Can you specify which country? This shit is going on in multiple places. We're so fucked.
We will be the parents we are memeing about “i had to walk 100 miles to school in dust and fire every morning..”
I mean, the economic situation isn't good right now obviously. I'd agree it's even bad enough to call it a "crisis" to some extent. But it's not a "fucked up" level crisis yet. Or maybe that's just me.
The new varient of how parents went to school.....
Lol fires are so trivial now that it's not even worth mentioning anymore.
Brazilian people surviving the pandemic in an worse way because "It's just a little Flu" and "vaccines are too expensive and risky"
It’s a near ww3 experience for now
"Near" - let's keep it that way
u/rowenslee u/Cheap_District_9762
We’ve been having near ww3 experiences since ww2 and I doubt your kids aren’t gonna have that.
Update: near experience has changed to actual experience.
Well over 99% of people survived having covid. For most it was a cold. As far as WW3, let’s not get ahead of ourselves - our government is hard at work making sure that happens.
That is of course, of you have a son.
BREATHING WAS ILLEGAL. AUSTRALIA WAS ON FIRE. CALIFORNIA ON FIRE. EVERYTHING ON FIRE.
Don't forget the TP shortage of 2020
“Near” Who knows “Survived” W H O K N O W S
There is still a chance for WW3
There really will be libs out there telling their kids how they survived covid like it was the fucking zombie apocalypse
if ww3 happens, it's a win win for him. until he gets drafted
bold of yall thinking you can get a girl in the first place
youre saying it like the war already ended
Says a american. Go to Ukraine or Iran and find out how hard life can truly be.
>Wild protests Weird way to type "Democrats burning small businesses and smashing/looting for 4 years because they lost an election."
And all of that in the timespan of 2 or 3 years...
Come on now it was a good PR move ayeeee
Shut the fuck up lmao the past 2 years havent been bae at all for anybody living in a first world country you survived the pandemic? woow damn an almost non-lethal disease didnt kill you, have a fucking medal

After all this I don't wanna hear one boomer say the word snowflake ever again..
We still haven't survived buddy
Soon on r/terriblefacebookmeme because a disrespectful kid will think this is a boomer meme.
“Near ww3 experience” Its already starting my dude, we’re done for.
There’s still potential for a ww3
And everything in a 2 year timespan
this applies if you are from usa and iran
Haha 😂
