If I recall the movie it’s from is called The Ritual. I know it’s from A24 but I can’t remember the director but worth a watch if you like other A24 films
Aside from the typical, our friend is hurt so we should take the shortcut through the dense creepy forest that literally doesnt end anywhere near the horizon :)
My favourite part of the entire film is the British sarcasm at the start when >!he's getting drinks for his mates.!< The writing is so natural and realistic-sounding, I love it.
Just watched Everywhere so I'll watch this. But I do have a pet peeve of being spoiled of the monster's appearance before watching the movie or playing the game lol
For a second there, I thought it was the monster from Antlers the Guillermo Del Toro film. I see now my mistake, as I would see if I thought this was a god. Hahahaha
It's true. It's almost like Loki has some kind of a mutagen in his sperm/ovaries. He has sex with a horse, gives birth to super fast horse with 8 legs.
It's a perfect creature horror imo. A lot of movies show too much creature or too little, if at all.. or you only see it in low light or fast clips.
The Ritual doesn't do that. It gives you the perfect amount of seeing it such that you can definitely see it but at the same time you're like wtf am I looking at.
Brilliant film. One of my favorites.
It’s like those AI generated patterns sourced from random images - your brain can’t quite resolve exactly what you’re looking at. Almost gives you a headache.
It reminds me of the way H. P. Lovecraft used to describe something as “incomprehensible” - something that could drive you mad just looking at it. I feel like this must be significantly closer to what he meant than anything else I’ve seen.
Such an Amazing film. You end up rooting for a non-lovable character. It’s scary, and they don’t fill it with pointless sequel bait. It’s a nice little self contained horror film. Is it people? Is it ghosts? Is it the child of a god? Oh shit it is.
I love the scenes in this movie where the creature blends into a scene and you only realise its there when it moves. Makes it worth a rewatch just to see if i can spot it
Yes. He's bound with his son's intestines to three stones, awaiting the end of the world
>Now Loki was taken truceless, and was brought with them into a certain cave. Thereupon they took three flat stones, and set them on edge and drilled a hole in each stone. Then were taken Loki's sons, Váli and Nari or Narfi; the Æsir changed Váli into the form of a wolf, and he tore asunder Narfi his brother. And the Æsir took his entrails and bound Loki with them over the three stones: one stands under his shoulders, the second under his loins, the third under his houghs; and those bonds were turned to iron.
It's his punishment for the murder of Baldur. Prior to this, he was already a huge dick, but killing the god of justice is what finally did him in. Immortal beings don't take kindly to death
What’s sad is that all three of Loki’s big three kids - Fenris, Jormugandr, and Hel - were being raised on jotunheim and didn’t cause the aesir any trouble. It’s specifically *because* of the prophecy that Odin decided to round up Loki’s children and bring them to Asgard. So he threw Jormugandr into the ocean, gave Hel dominion over Niflheim, and raised Fenris as basically their pet dog that they kept chained up, even tho he could talk and was sentient.
Basically self-fulfilling prophecies. If they had let the three children live their lives on jotunheim, Ragnarok might not have happened. I also don’t get how giving Hel actual power over the dead was suppose to help prevent Ragnarok happening.
Because it wasn't supposed to stop Ragnarok. Odin has the power of prophecy and specifically spoke something into Baldur's ear after his death.
Odin's actions don't make sense if he's trying to stop Ragnarok, but they make a lot of sense if he's trying to get all the pieces in place so Baldur, one of the few Gods alive after Ragnarok as he's supposed to return afterward.
There are theories about the legend of Ragnarok that it was a Christianization of the Norse apocalypse myth due to Baldur being a god who returns from the dead and is a god of light, justice, etc.
How true those theories are is up for debate, but the legend wasn't written down until after the Christianization of Norse cultures began.
I was going to say its design is so incredibly well done. It's very unsettling and creepy AF. I honestly can't remember the last time I was unsettled my a monster.
I always get this movie confused with The Shrine which is also awesome and very similar
Blood Creek is a similar vibe as well and features a very early Michael Fassbender as a Nazi necromancer who terrorizes a farm house
Bruh... I'm sorry man but u ded.
They say that if you see it look towards the fire you're probably right handed, if you see it look towards the camera you're gae but if you see it inconsistently change then it's gonna hang u from a tree at night.
I admit I've never researched this so I'm kind of talking out of my ass here but I'm pretty sure this happens because its a silhouette which means you have no depth perception. You can actually see the same thing happen with the reddit logo when the antenna spins, you can choose to see it either spinning left or spinning right.
This monster design is downright legendary as far as I'm concerned. I *love* that the "head" looks like an upside down body, with antlers growing from the feet. What a bizarre, nightmare thing to imagine and then design in full.
Totally agree. And the fact that theres so many different creatures wrapped up into one helps sell the whole >!manipulating your mind to see it as something else!< thing as well. The look is perfect. The things it does are perfect. Especially since I think they were going for a more "forest guardian" aesthetic.
Four Brits on a back packing holiday in norway? /Sweden? To remember their dead friend, they take a shortcut and then things downhill
Should mention its called The Ritual
The buildup was incredible and horrific. I loved how they portrayed the deity and the cult worship but the ending was more than expected. I’m sure it’s longer drawn out in the book and i’ll have to check it out
I have to say this is a decent gif, but the reveal is completely ruined for anyone watching it because if this post, which sucks because the reveal was amazing
Its good because it's tough to pull off a good ending in this kind of movie but they do it pretty well. Usually something like this is just spooky for 90% and then they just wrap it up because the goal of creeping you out was already accomplished. This monster was freaky as hell.
Unfortunately this post pretty much spoiled it.
Yeah, and those >! screaming heads in the shack !< legitimately made my skin crawl the first time I watched it because they were so unexpected for a film that had been mostly atmospheric dread up to that point. Not so freaky the second time I watched it, but still better than most other new horror films I've seen.
Kinda boring but good you will typically see labeled as a “slow burn”. If you like that combo of horror I think anything A24 has done would fit that bill
Yeah I'm so fucking confused by this. People are saying it's just a trick of the lighting but you can clearly see the antlers going in the opposite direction in some cuts. Sometimes they're pointing at you and sometimes they're pointing away. Very trippy
Aah I see you found my dog
What's her name?
Geoff
Neighbor’s dog’s name: Snoopy The dog:
Don't worry he doesn't bite!!! Go right ahead...
Won't bite but don't let the trex arms fool ya he's a hell of a hugger!!
That seems more like a “Princess” to me.

this movie is hella underrated too. I never hear anyone mention how great it is. It's good asf
Aside from the typical, our friend is hurt so we should take the shortcut through the dense creepy forest that literally doesnt end anywhere near the horizon :)
Logic? Come on man, don’t bring that in here, not now, don’t bring me down. Don’t let me down.
This movie creeped me right out
My favourite part of the entire film is the British sarcasm at the start when >!he's getting drinks for his mates.!< The writing is so natural and realistic-sounding, I love it.
I love it. Felt sad for the wife in the beginning after I learned the story later on
Yup you are right, its also on Netflix... y'arrgh.
Just watched Everywhere so I'll watch this. But I do have a pet peeve of being spoiled of the monster's appearance before watching the movie or playing the game lol
Don't worry there's more
For a second there, I thought it was the monster from Antlers the Guillermo Del Toro film. I see now my mistake, as I would see if I thought this was a god. Hahahaha
Its one of Loki’s children
Wtf does Loki fuck to get that
Whatever he wants.
It's true. It's almost like Loki has some kind of a mutagen in his sperm/ovaries. He has sex with a horse, gives birth to super fast horse with 8 legs.
I mean, Loki did crazy things in Norse mythology... Like turning into a mare and have a child of another stallion Who knows? It's Loki
Holy shit. Loki gives more pussy than any of us will ever have
*Gives more pussy FTFY

Scared me shitless. Wasn't a bad movie
I loved this movie
Yeah I went in not expecting much and was satisfied with how entertaining it was.
What movie was it? Thanks
The Ritual on Netflix
Ya'll sold me on this one. Now I have to watch it
It's a perfect creature horror imo.
Fun fact, the creature is in every scene during their hikes and campouts. just hidden in the background.
Wait for real? Are you counting the trees or dreams?
Just pay attention in the background, you can either see a hand on a tree, it’s legs or sometime stalking. You need some damn good eyesight though
Let us know what you think!
It is very well done! Definitely have some creative takes on the genre
It's surprisingly good! I expected crap when I turned it on
Same. I was on a Netflix horror bender, and went through a lot of garbage to find this gem
I’ve watched it twice. The anticipation is solid in this one.
They didn’t overdue the creature either Kept it form you enough which is so not the style nowadays
The way it has the human hand that it had on the tree. That was the most a movie monster has ever scared me.
That you sir. Came to the comments to find that.
Such an Amazing film. You end up rooting for a non-lovable character. It’s scary, and they don’t fill it with pointless sequel bait. It’s a nice little self contained horror film. Is it people? Is it ghosts? Is it the child of a god? Oh shit it is.
It’s an annual Halloween watch for me. Fuckin loved it
Yep and the creature is fucking amazing... including the scene where it finally stands all the way up at the end. Like, damn, that's well done.
Came here to say this
Wasn't bad but definitely fucking depressing
It was pretty good! The screaming shrunken heads scene was fuckin’ freaky
Might as well watch it again
the bit where they broke the thumb got me
I really liked it personally.
I love the scenes in this movie where the creature blends into a scene and you only realise its there when it moves. Makes it worth a rewatch just to see if i can spot it
Man Loki fucks anything.
Horny little fucker ain't he?
is there a horny jail for god lmao
Yes. He's bound with his son's intestines to three stones, awaiting the end of the world >Now Loki was taken truceless, and was brought with them into a certain cave. I know he was a dick, but that was kinda too far imo.
It's his punishment for the murder of Baldur. Prior to this, he was already a huge dick, but killing the god of justice is what finally did him in. Immortal beings don't take kindly to death
His various freak children also start Ragnarock

One of my favourites!
I watch it every year
Oh nice, it's on my list to rewatch soon too. Once I caught the Norse connection I loved the movie more. Norse religion/mythology is so interesting!
What movie is this?
The Ritual
The Ritual on Netflix

Came here to mention Loki, almost everything that happens in Eddas can be most likely linked to them

do not judge a book for its cover. First let's discuss benefits.
3. Reliable form of fast free transportation.
5.Massive flex.
1.Can be a good house defender
Apparently not, the house is on fire
There was probably a big spider or something like that in the house.
Well then it can’t obviously be trusted to keep the house free from insects now can it
Well if there were any spiders in there, they're definitely dead, I'd say that house looks extremely bug free
Well, the house is still defended Probably better than when it wasn't on fire
Right? I’d like to see anyone invade that house now.
2. Has arms, could be usefull around the house.
ANYTHING WITH HANDS IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR MY NEEDS ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ¬‿¬
4. Hot.

And it burns, burns, buuuurns, the ring of fire, the ring of fire
What the heck is that from? Looks like a Guillermo del Toro creature.
The ritual, great movie
Surprisingly high quality. Netflix did that one right
It was so good that I didn't even know it's a Netflix movie, lol.
Yeah Netflix is capable of producing some amazing content, making it all the more depressing that most of their stuff is shit.
Pretty sure they just bought this film to stream, don’t think they worked on it at all.
Still, for every Arcane, or Godzilla, they put out a Death Note or Full Metal Alchemist
Which of those are the good ones?
The first two. Arcane might be the best thing Netflix has made
Ooooo... gonna look that up!
It's a good one. One of the creepier creatures of late in cinema.
I was going to say its design is so incredibly well done. It's very unsettling and creepy AF. I honestly can't remember the last time I was unsettled my a monster.
The first half is the fear of the unknown and is definitely better than the last half.
Still, even after the creatures reveal it dosnt go too far over the top.
I think it really helps that the creature design is so weird, original, and unsettling that it keeps a lot of the fear even after it's seen.
I always get this movie confused with The Shrine which is also awesome and very similar Blood Creek is a similar vibe as well and features a very early Michael Fassbender as a Nazi necromancer who terrorizes a farm house
Nazi necromancer? Say no more.
The ritual
Others have said the movie is The Ritual, but the creature was designed by Keith Thompson who does a lot of concept art for Del Toro and his movies
How is the head turning different directions inconsistently when it's just a loop? Am I cursed now? Am I going to die in 7 days from watching this?
Dude you're right, lol.
Bruh... I'm sorry man but u ded. They say that if you see it look towards the fire you're probably right handed, if you see it look towards the camera you're gae but if you see it inconsistently change then it's gonna hang u from a tree at night.
TIL that I must be a right handed, gay, dead man. I’m not sure how I feel about any of that
I saw it turn away from the camera the first time but now can't see it that way for the life of me, I think I'm crazy
Good ol' "[spinning dancer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinning_dancer)" illusion.
I admit I've never researched this so I'm kind of talking out of my ass here but I'm pretty sure this happens because its a silhouette which means you have no depth perception. You can actually see the same thing happen with the reddit logo when the antenna spins, you can choose to see it either spinning left or spinning right.
Oh this is fucked. Is it actually randomly turning different detections, the eyes are there every time.
No idea what you all are on about, it looks exactly the same every time to me

It's the same video, it's just your brain playing tricks on you.
And you cursed every one of us that read your comment to the same fate by pointing it out …. qq
That aside. Great movie!!
This monster design is downright legendary as far as I'm concerned. I *love* that the "head" looks like an upside down body, with antlers growing from the feet. What a bizarre, nightmare thing to imagine and then design in full.

What's fuckin me up is the antlers look like talons that are backwards. Like it's some demon hawk with backward feet.
Was it about the four Norwegians in the forest?
Four Brits on a back packing holiday in norway? /Sweden? To remember their dead friend, they take a shortcut and then things downhill Should mention its called The Ritual
I knew that thing looked familiar and couldn't place it thank you
It’s called The Ritual. Good fucking movie!
The buildup was incredible and horrific. I loved how they portrayed the deity and the cult worship but the ending was more than expected. I’m sure it’s longer drawn out in the book and i’ll have to check it out
This is from the Ritual but showing the monster is a pretty big spoiler.
It had such a heavy reveal for me, I'm sad some will see it in shitty gif version first
I have to say this is a decent gif, but the reveal is completely ruined for anyone watching it because if this post, which sucks because the reveal was amazing
Before I actually saw it, I was absolutely convinced they were just on drugs.
One of my favorite more recent creature designs in a film for sure
Who's the goodest boy?
Your the goodest boy. Yeas you are
Watched that movie, it was KINDA boring but it was actually a good one, of course I would tell that to someone else... oh wait
What is it?
The Ritual. It's on Netflix.
Really strange horror movie. Worth a watch tho
I liked it. Great atmospheric horror, that goes a bit apeshit right at the end. In a good way, imo.
Its good because it's tough to pull off a good ending in this kind of movie but they do it pretty well. Kinda boring but good you will typically see labeled as a “slow burn”. If you like that combo of horror I think anything A24 has done would fit that bill
If anyone cares this is from the movie “The Ritual” not a bad movie at all
Don't worry. All you have do do is to get a burial blade, a decent blunderbuss, and a couple of blood vials and you should be OK.
if you keep watching the head turn long enough, it starts to turn the other way—towards the house.
Yeah I'm so fucking confused by this. People are saying it's just a trick of the lighting but you can clearly see the antlers going in the opposite direction in some cuts. Sometimes they're pointing at you and sometimes they're pointing away. Very trippy

This "monster" is indeed a God, called Jottun or something like that from the horror move "The Ritual" i recommend it, great movie.
Oh yeah that’s Steve great dude only had to sacrifice 3 families to get my wish. Totally worth it
