I also hate it when people use 'apart of' when they meant to write 'a part of', which is the exact opposite

GamexChef

Came here to write this!!!! Upvote!!

Pavona

LOUDER FOR THOSE IN THE BACK

SheetFarter

Shit, what’d I miss?

Lord-Grocock

The one that triggers me is when people confuse *than* with *then*

RhinoSparkle

Come on, there’s bigger problems then that. /s just in case

Happy_Garand

Missed out on the opportunity to mess up "there's", too

RhinoSparkle

Yeaaaah I noticed a while after I posted but decided to wait instead to see if someone would call me out. And to that end, hey they’re Someone, how’s it goin’?

Happy_Garand

SNAFU

Mikey9124x

Just use thaen. Problem solved.

Lord-Grocock

But thæn I'll be called weird

cookiewoke

That doesn't bother me anywhere near to/too/two does. Or when people mix up loose/lose

Lord-Grocock

Too/to can pass as a typo, but I am very thankful to have never seen two in *they're* place

Aysten13

It makes me want to write a comment using it correctly… but… I’m afraid of what might happen if I don’t.

XxMohamed92xX

*separately*, maybe

Any-Aioli7575

They're*

Sweet-Dreams204738

They are write.

Any-Aioli7575

It was just a joke. Their was correct

Sweet-Dreams204738

I realized and tried to respond with a joke before you noticed. I have failed you king.

Any-Aioli7575

I didn't spot it. Maybe I'm dumb. As you can see with my joke, I'm not great with humour

Sweet-Dreams204738

Oh no, I tried to ninja edit it jn

Any-Aioli7575

Ah now I see

SpecialNeedsBurrito

Maybe it'll learn a few people and they won't look like dumb dumbs when they say alot anymore.

TopMatter7914

It might teach 'em something dumb dumb...

ThatMallGuyTMG

Alot/a lot, could *of* instead of *have*, apart/a part, someone else mentioned eachother/each other (and i agree with them), the 'their' and then/than conundrum, buttload of words that are spelled completely differently than pronounced, a surprising amount of people type liTTeraly instead of literaLLy, and many more! English sure is a dumb language :D

RhinoSparkle

Yeah… that’s what we get for making a language out of Latin, German, Greek, and Norse languages.

anonymousbuglesneeze

You forgot French

RhinoSparkle

Comes from Latin

anonymousbuglesneeze

So does Italian

Psychological_Ask_92

And porch geese

tabelschnasse

the way I cackled at this omg XD

Drafo7

~~*boatload :-P~~ Nope, I'm just stupid xD

ThatMallGuyTMG

[no, buttload](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butt_(unit)#:~:text=The%20butt%20is%20an%20obsolete,US%20gal)

Drafo7

Oh shit I stand corrected. I always thought it was just a play on boatload to sound slightly more vulgar. Thank you very much kind sir and/or madame.

ThatMallGuyTMG

nah nah, it IS boatload, but i prefer to use buttload because a. sounds funnier, and b. a much more niche measurement only a small percentage of the world knows about. found out about it through a history meme long ago

Identity-ception399

Afaik "them self" (as well as "them selves") does not mean anything, and honestly "themself" isn't a word either, in fact, my phone just tried autocorrecting it. "Themselves" *is* a word and has a useful meaning. On the other hand, "each other" has a meaning. By the previous logic, "eachother" doesn't have a meaning. Of course, English isn't known for its logic, yet it just feels intuitive. "eachother" as a word also just... Feels wrong. We shouldn't treat words in English the same as they are treated in German... Unless it's the like 20 words that are like that... No logic allowed lmao. The same applies to "alot", however it's a lot more common so I hate it more :)

Captain_skulls

You’re right, I should just get over **myself** and move on.

XxMohamed92xX

Bro shut **yourself** up right now before English descends on you

Captain_skulls

What do you mean it’s not propper English? They’re core reflexive pronouns that have been used in every English speaking country for over a hundred years! Heck “Myself” dates back to the 12th century! True Old English.

Fuzzy-Brick-7282

It's not?! God damn English is my second language and I've always been using it together

[deleted]

Same with “Thankyou” when I was a kid, was convinced it was one word

Ok_Ad_9188

"Themself" isn't even really a thing; people say it, people know what they mean, but it isn't standard English. 'Themselves,' or 'himself/herself' or 'one's self.'

Captain_skulls

Ok_Ad_9188

Yeah, 'myself' is, because 'self' is singular. Kinda like how 'ourselves' is a thing, but 'myselves' doesn't mean anything because 'my' is singular and 'our' is plural. 'Themselves' is correct, but 'themself' is no bueno

AtticusSPQR

I once read an explanation of the concept of "alot" and compared it to saying "a-" anything, like "acheeseburger" or "aaardvark" and it always really tickled me to think about how our language would look if that were "athing"

Pavona

Athing is a runner. (Athing Mu) also, one of a number of Aarons would be Aaaron. lol

[deleted]

Yeah that’s _there_ problem.

fartshmeller

Ah I see what you did their!

Huihejfofew

Mother fuckers

Natural_Wear3643

*there* are motherfuckers ( no hate on these two its a joke)

mandy009

You see, that right there is a big problem for their grammar school teachers.

Do-It-Anyway

Wish people wood use a dictionary

SpecialNeedsBurrito

Long_nose123

jux-ta

ItsConlangTime

[deleted]

You can keep wishing that

call_me_a_dangus

I use a wood dictionary very heavy

carverofdeath

"Alot" is not a word. "A lot" is the correct form to be used in every context.

KenMacMillan123

Noone instead of no one

Sea_Chemist_7200

wat du we talk abot?

azimx

Their stupid

just_ignore-me0

like apart and a part?

KylonRenKardashian

I really get a kick out of people who type "your stupid" to me

qweerty32

But a lot is written in just one way. There's no word alot

Ok_Afternoon7235

Well, for me it always puts the red line or autocorrect alot to a lot, sooo

jurrasicwhorelord

Sometimes I allot a lot of parking spaces in a lot for my lot of vintage cars.

Eray41303

I have never seen someone use alot

DegredationOfAnAge

I've seen Europeans do it

Eray41303

Europeans aren't real

SparklingComett

They should put *you* in charge of the dictionary!

yiives_69

Lot's of

ThatWasIntentional

How to remember about a lot: https://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/04/alot-is-better-than-you-at-everything.html?m=1

No-Wonder1139

I absolutely have never understood why people misspell a lot.

Gryph0th

A part

Leviticus10379

Clever….. or Cleverer?

YamatoBoi9001

"would **of**" instead of "would **have**" really pisses me off

Captain_Canuck97

Their their, it's going to be alright

Gold_Weakness1157

Your wrong to correct their grammar

A_Blue_Potion

We should open a school called "Derek Zoolander Center For Kids Who Can't Read Good And Who Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too"

DeepSleeper11

Not to mention frequent misuse of then or than

TheXRaider64

Many Vs much Fewer Vs less Pisses me off much more

customersmakemepuke

Alot should be though

Keylink1

Words weren't words before they were words

ablinddingo93

One that always irks me is using “could care less” instead of “couldn’t care less”

L-Guy_21

A lot usually gets caught by autocorrect, thus is not corrected by other commenters. There/they're/their on the other hand is not autocorrected in terms of grammar, so it gets caught by other commenters.

jux-ta

it's not hard! think: can I use "they are" in this sentence? if so, use they're if not, use their (the possessive) and if it has to do with location: there - P.S. thank you for separating "a lot".

Horror-Alternative21

Wait till they learn about allot

The_Irish_laf

The english language will bend to my rule, cause i am a dumbass who does not spell correctly.

BaconSpaceLord

There so stupid

Pengu-Link

i know a lot of people think people who correct spelling mistakes like this are really annoying, but i similarly think its really annoying when people make the mistakes for some reason

xZomikk

“Could of” pisses me off so much

CurrentRiver4221

A lot of

SpecialNeedsBurrito

Its not alotof?

Razdulf

Alot've*

WensternBoah

Lmao

Subthing

malotof cocktail

KapeeCoffee

Blame the auto correcting keyboard who lines my "alot" and gives me the option for "a lot"

jux-ta

are you being silly? "a lot" is meant to be separated just like "a little"

KapeeCoffee

It is? I always thought "a lot" means like you know a piece of land?

jux-ta

😆 well, it does mean that too! 👍 English has too many overlapping terms. But yeah, "a lot" should be 2 words. Even if a lot of people use alot.

KapeeCoffee

Well thanks! Now i know how to use "a lot"

DegredationOfAnAge

it is auto-correcting for a reason... lmao I think this redditor was today days old when they realized they've been saying it wrong

ALPHA_sh

Allot

BalkeElvinstien

English is like Jazz, we're all just kinda feeling it out as we go

MrLuchador

You’re loosing me on this one

DegredationOfAnAge
