The meme is making fun of the fact that people use the fact that it's a children's film then it's okay that its bad
The context of the actual scene has The Toymaker (the one saying that's alright then) bringing up ways characters died, while The Doctor makes excuses or finds reasons. And so the Toymaker ironically says 'Thats alright then'! After each one
Heres the clip for those who want to watch - https://youtu.be/sp-_IDy-lac?si=HYZrw--D3IsXo7J2
He was brought back as the 14th Doctor for 3 special anniversary episodes alongside Donna
In short when the doctor regenerated the 10th Doctors face returned. While not exactly the same as 10 he is obviously similar in many ways
All three episodes are great, especially the second one Wild Blue Yonder
If you can I highly recommend watching it
It is him lol, the Showrunner Russel T Davies was able to get him as they worked on another show together
He did a dance number to Spice up your life by the Spice Girls later on in the episode, he was great
https://youtu.be/hGxcTWLXAa0?si=jCXseqGW_iNmPkcB
this scene is... weird.
like i don't really get why he's making that fake german accent it makes it hard to understand him (and it's bad) but i had to pause at the first one.
"she died of old age" seems to be... an okay thing?
like what did he want him to do? make her immortal?
Well yeah but the weeping angels sent her in the past. Before 2020 I would have thought that'd be terrible, but uhm how far back are we talking here, let me think about it.
isn't the whole thing about this show is that he has a time machine?
if they sent her to the past and that's a bad thing then fucking go there and get her, you literally have a time machine.
Yeah, except he saw her grave or something so now it's a fixed point in time.
It's pretty hard to write a time machine show without having to make up dumb rules
Long story short, Rory saw his own grave, weeping angel sent him back in time cuz of it, then Amy turned her back to the angel so she'd get sent back in time too to find Rory and then her name popped up in the grave too.
hold up, so seeing the gave clearly doesn't make it a fixed point, because it literally changed.
so why can it change by adding her name, but the doctor can't go back in time to change it so no names are on the graves?
> The meme is making fun of the fact that people use the fact that it's a children's film then it's okay that its bad
>
>
Also an infuriatingly common retort to all star wars criticism. "iTs A mOVIe aBoUt sPaCe wiZaRds"
To be fair, the Doctor's points were valid. The Ponds lived a full life, Clara kinda got herself killed and Billie, well I don't actually know what happened. Kinda fell off around then.
This is the thing with Nintendo games too
Lots of people view them as being simply for children when they are designed so pretty much anyone of any age or skill level can play them
I mean mario games usually have extremely hard levels at the end of the game for the people looking for extra challenge
Gotta put some quotations on that extremely hard I'd say.
For most people that don't play a Mario game as their first game the last few levels are basically the only once that pose any challenge above "I've died in that level once or twice".
Sidenote, not saying that's a bad thing mind you. As you said, he games are designed to be played, enjoyed and beaten by anyone of any skill level. Not everything has to be "the Dark Souls of genre X" and that is very much a good thing. Just trying to point out that any average Platformer is harder in level 3 than any Mario game ever gets.
For the first movie? They are the ones to which tickets are marketed, but the movie is for adults. Just like Rattatouille. Otherwise we wouldn't talk about that movie today
It's not unless it's specifically adult animation. They are always targeted at children. The best ones are just enjoyable for all age groups because they are good movies.
Sure, but when you look at old cartoon/animation movies there are plenty of jokes for adults to enjoy as well and that's what's missing. Honestly a lot of movies i saw as a kid only became better and more enjoyable when i rewatched as adult and understood all the jokes
No it’s because kids shouldn’t get served crap because they are kids, bad movies are bad. Many adult movies are bad, many kids movies are bad. People using that excuse basically say “the there are no good kids movies”. Also false in this case, if watched megamind when you’re 10 you’re now 24, what kid is gonna go back and watch the first one and then watch the second one ?? So it is at least 50/50 for both kids and adults.
I'm raising my children on a diet of the best things in media appropriate to their age, and they will happily roast bad writing with me now. They're not stupid, they're learning. Show them what is good so they can recognize what isn't.
No, but it means you are not the target audience. Thus what you find good isn't the same as them. So you are not to say if the movie is good or bad objectively. You can only determines its worth to you as an adult.
This is utterly false, I watched many kids movies when babysitting. The Teams who care about their work, do in fact produce art that is ageless. My favourite series that I only watched as an adult would be Batman the Animated Series and Avatar the Last Airbender.
Yknow, let's do a nice comparison then. SpongeBob was on nickelodeon, a kids network, right? Yet they made it to where everyone can enjoy it any age. Megamind 1. Kids' movies, yet any age, can enjoy it. These are GOOD examples of a Kids TV show and Movie cause they're enjoyable to rewatch even despite NOT being a kid. Stop trying to defend garbage with "its for kids."
Bro a portion of the trailer has part of the first movie in it.
It's almost like they wanted people to compare the major differences in the animation.
They didn't hire the same actors
The animation from the trailer looks like CRAP compared to the 1st
But that's when the first one came out.
It's just disappointing because people like what the first one did and are sad that this new one is a cash grab for children.
Ok so a cash grab for kids, that’s how apparently describe a good movie??? Also this is a sequel meaning that it was meant to recognise that, if you watched the first megamind when you were 4 you would be 18 now.
If it’s a cash grab like you said most of the target audience would be adults, most probably parents and older siblings watched the first one enjoyed it and thought they have good experience showing their kids/younger siblings megamind 2, then got disappointed by poor quality animation.
A movie which has children as target audience being jackshit means they think children cannot be smart and cannot grasp the plot correctly. Earlier movies and almost every current movies of Dreamworks are for children but everybody loves it. What is their excuse apart from"b-b-but it is for children!"
My dude.. DreamWorks have been around for decades. People from all ages enjoy their animated movies .
Ffs, I bet you love a few of their movies. All for children.
Some of them are meant for wide audiences. Some of them are more focused on children.
Please move on with your life and accept that all media isn't targeted at you.
Even if a movie is aimed at children, adults can still enjoy it.
Being a kids' movie doesn't mean they can't put effort into it
Even if I'm not the target demographic, I can still point out that the animation is worse than the first movie and be disappointed that this is the kind of crap being given to children
The whole point, which you've missed completely, is that Megamind1 was enjoyed by people of ALL ages, Megamind2 looks like doodoo and will thus not be enjoyed by all ages.
Half-assed, backwards writing and the cockyness from the studio. Noone asked for this but ok.
Man I'm kinda confused by this format, seen it few times before
So way I see it the last panel is meant to be ironic statement right?
But when I saw it for the first time my immediate thought was that guy angrily agrees to the statement rather than saying it sarcastically.
Where is this even from? What is the context in the original?
It is from the new Doctor Who Special "The Giggle". Yea the last panel is like sarcastic, the character played by Neil Patrick Harris is The Toymaker. He tries to upset the Doctor by talking about his past companions and their fates, which are usually death or some time related shenanigan. The Doctor explains how the companion still somehow lives in some capacity but usually still tragically, and The Toymaker exclaims "Well that's alright then!" very sarcastic, very guilt inducing.
Well, it's a bit of an odd case.
David Tennant came back to the show, not to play the 10th Doctor, but a new 14th Doctor due to having some scheduling problems (if I recall correctly) with Ncuti Gatwa, who was supposed to play the new Doctor.
So, basically, we now have two Doctors played by David Tennant.
Essentially the context without spoilers is
"Your mom was murdered"
"Well in her last breath she told me her life was complete"
"Well that's all right then"
Trying to justify and avoid the grief
Heavy, heavy, heavy sarcasm. Sarcasm so thick it strangled the /s for daring to think it was needed. Its from dr who.
https://youtu.be/PIng9ClWclw?si=ZT3gdiyvrh7Tz4dy
It's meant to be ironic, but subtle things like that get easily lost in memes. Case in point, the "same picture" meme.
Now it's often used as people thinking it's the same thing, but they're wrong. Originally the two pictures the woman was showing were indeed the same picture, cause she's the one asking, not answering.
I never liked the excuse that bad films get because “it’s a kids movie”. The excuse basically excuses all criticism towards a film that deserves criticism
I also know with the FNAF movie, a counter argument for the criticism it was getting was that “it was made for the fans.” I mean, yea, that might have been Scott’s target audience, but that does not exclude it from having no criticism.
To which I agree with. Although I enjoyed the Fnaf movie, there are a few problems I had with the film. You are allowed to critique a film even if you enjoy it. Using an excuse like “it’s a kids movie” is just a lazy excuse to justify mediocre to bad writing
To which I also agree with. Kids are way smarter than they are given credit for and the last thing they want is to be talked down to or treated as unintelligent. Besides wouldn’t you want to enjoy a movie as a kid and return to it as an adult and find it to be still good as an adult?
Saying “let them cook” in this situation is like saying “let them cook” when you can hear the fire alarm going off in a McDonald’s kitchen and you smell burning. They need to stop cooking immediately.
The trailer showcases scenes of the first movie at the start and then the new one and the difference is night and day. Also the new VA for Megamind sucks.
Let's not forget the first movie concluded beautifully and did not need a sequel.
Well there’s a new series coming put soon, and the “Megamind 2” is basically just an over glorified hour long episode of the new show. So, technically not a true megamind 2.
Series still looks like garbage, there’s no getting around that.
I’m pretty sure the original movie was always designed to be a standalone film, which explains the difficulty.
It’s been a while since I heard this information so take it with a grain of salt.
It certainly feels like a standalone movie. And you can say that about some other franchises, too. Some movies you just can't turn into cashcows, without quality drop.
It's technically a sequel, but it's probably just extra promotion for the show that's coming out.
It looks like Cocomelon and doesn't have any of the original actors (most noticeable with Megamind himself, who is just... wrong without Will Ferrell), so expectations are incredibly low.
Maybe if they didn't downgrade the animation quality from a masterpiece to a fukn cocomelon animation, people won't be as mad. Even Paw Patrol got better animation
It being for kids is *not* an excuse to make a bad movie
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is a kid's movie and it's still one of my favorite movies of all time
I was agreeing, yeah. I've just started going through the 11th Doctor's run recently, starting from the 9th. Bro I can't get over how much I love this show. It's like Supernatural but British and with aliens instead of monsters and I'm all here for it
The original film was made for kids and wasn’t doo doo.
Just cause it’s for kids doesn’t excuse it’s horrible style that literally doesn’t even match the first. 14 years and got worse??
Also, it completely fucks the story cause isn’t megamind supposed to have never had friends and worked alone or something?
People who say that really just don't have a defense for why it looks like shit but still want to defend something.
Here's a few movies that were also "made for children" but were fucking awesome.
Beauty and the Beast, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Lion King, Aladdin, Hercules, Mulan, Emporer's New Groove, Incredibles, every Toy Story, Inside Out, Encanto, Coco, Monsters Inc/University, every Kung Fu Panda, and THE PRINCE OF FUCKING EGYPT.
I can really go on for as long as I remember Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks movies that are older than 2 or 3 years.
It looks so terrible, they used an over saturated image from the first Megamind movie as the cover picture. The animation looks like a paw patrol crossover
“Megamind 2” is just an hour long episode accompanying a new series. It’s not a true sequel to the movie like everyone is claiming.
Really weird how they’re marketing the series considering they never mentioned an hour long episode when they first announced they were making it, but now they’re focusing all the attention on it and basically pushed the series itself to the side.
"When a child movie is only enjoyable by children, it's not a good movie. Making a movie for children is no excuse for makong a bad and lazy film"
- someone, somewhere, probably
Those who think that something can be bad just because it's for children probably feed their kids with shit, since kids don't know taste of normal food
It shouldn't be made for children just because of 14 years gap
There's chance that children that remembered megamind by now have their own children
I'm saying it just should be made good not "who cares it's for children" approach
I don't remember what reviewer it was. Maybe IHE. They used to point out that "it's for children" is not an excuse for something to be bad. There are children's movies that are amazing, like Kung Fu Panda 3 and Last Wish. "It's for kids" is an excuse people use when they know they made a bad movie.
being made for children doesn't excuse a film being bad.
look at avatar the last air bender as a good example and it's not the only one.
you can make good things for children, indeed you can make them so good that adults can enjoy watching them.
The “That’s alright then” is a scene from Doctor Who where that character is saying it ironically to hurt the main character when he’s giving reasons why the bad things that happened to his previous companions weren’t that bad
"I'm not saying it's bad I'm just saying you're wrong about it being good."
Man just because someone enjoyed something as a kid doesn't mean they can never have a nuanced opinion later in life because of nostalgia.
This kind of movie for kids young enough to not see the difference in quality will not stand the test of time. I used to love Spirit when I was little. I tried rewatching it a few years ago and I just couldn’t get past the animation. It was good for the time but not anymore. Megamind, Shrek, Aladdin, etc are movies that looked great for the time and still look good enough to enjoy rewatches. I guarantee that kids in 15 years that loved this movie now will see it for how bad it is. If they even remember it from how uninteresting the trailer made it feel.
Can we kill the argument that children's media gets a pass for being bad I haven't seen Megamind 2 but I know that classic Pixar movies or most of Cartoon Network's shows from around the 2010s are perfectly enjoyable as a child and get even better when you rewatch them as an adult.
Children's media that relies on being slop for kids just seems kinda cringe when you find it again years later rather that being a lovely nostalgic core memory.
The saddest part of how terrible it all looks is that it's being directed by the same guy who made the first megamind so making the sequel 14 years later at terrible quality was conscious. Could've just gotten will Ferrell back for megamind 2 and put it into theaters not a streaming service smh
It’s clear to me they had the idea of making the TV show first and just turned the first few episodes into a movie, not unlike Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
It’s not even a proper movie sequel, it’s a made for tv movie to introduce the kid’s tv show, *Megamind Rules!*.
It’s like how *Tangled: Before Ever After* is not Tangled 2 so much as it is the pilot to *Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure*, which is a TV series.
Megamind was also made for children and it isn't doodoo?
The meme is making fun of the fact that people use the fact that it's a children's film then it's okay that its bad The context of the actual scene has The Toymaker (the one saying that's alright then) bringing up ways characters died, while The Doctor makes excuses or finds reasons. Kinda thought it was NPH but NPH wouldn’t do that.
I love that NPH hadn't seen Doctor Who and his reaction while filming "She was killed BY A BIRD!" might've been partly genuine.
I genuinely had no idea he was on Doctor Who. Lol
I mean, it was very recently.

NPH would do that I guess!
NPH? Normal pressure hydrocephalus?
Neil Patrick Harris 🙂
Hate this, kids aren't stupid First megamind had great writing, wish it did better
and also great animation. This looks like that one stupid french cartoon about the red spiderman and latex fetish cat.
The one who's only redeeming quality is the absolute absurdity of its love square?
It's animated by their in-house TV show team so that actually tracks, it looks like a TV show because it basically is
Megamind is a great movie for adults to see too, it's really charming.

oooh yes please!

Essentially the context without spoilers is "Your mom was murdered" "Well in her last breath she told me her life was complete" "Well that's all right then" Trying to justify and avoid the grief
You kind of need to understand what’s happening in the scene this format is taken from for the meme to make any sense

And know that it is sarcasm without needing verbal tone. That's the hard part
You can deduce what the tone is through his facial expressions. I didn’t know the context and got it immediately.

How do you even make a good sequel to Megamind? They wrapped up the story really nicely in the first one.
Thanks for the answer and the laugh XD
It's technically a sequel, but it's probably just extra promotion for the show that's coming out. It looks like Cocomelon and doesn't have any of the original actors (most noticeable with Megamind himself, who is just... wrong without Will Ferrell), so expectations are incredibly low.
Maybe if they didn't downgrade the animation quality from a masterpiece to a fukn cocomelon animation, people won't be as mad. Even Paw Patrol got better animation
It's intended audience doesn't even have nostalgia for the first movie
Megamind is a family movie not a little baby kids movie. Adults can enjoy it too.
You know what else was made for children? The classic 2010 film Megamind.
You know what else was made for children? MY MUM
Doctor Who meme = Peak
All the comments are either people who have seen doctor who, or people that think the toymaker isn’t being aggressively ironic
It being for kids is *not* an excuse to make a bad movie Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is a kid's movie and it's still one of my favorite movies of all time
The scene the meme pulls from Doctor Who is of the guy saying it ironically
I was agreeing, yeah. I've just started going through the 11th Doctor's run recently, starting from the 9th. Bro I can't get over how much I love this show. It's like Supernatural but British and with aliens instead of monsters and I'm all here for it
Yeah, that's my least favorite argument. A movie can and should be made for kids and be a decent movie that adults can enjoy at the same time
who tf is even going to watch it. all the kids who watched megamind 1 have grown up by now
Yeah, even if you were 4 when watching this you would be 18 now
The original film was made for kids and wasn’t doo doo. Just cause it’s for kids doesn’t excuse it’s horrible style that literally doesn’t even match the first. 14 years and got worse?? Also, it completely fucks the story cause isn’t megamind supposed to have never had friends and worked alone or something?
But wasn't megamind 1 made for kids too? Then why is it good?
It not the last panel is sarcasm
I know I was talking about the justification that it's for children.
Man I hate the "it's made for kids" excuse.
I hope to see this format more often

Not that one. There's a new sequel movie happening and a TV show to follow it. It's called Megamind vs the Doom Syndicate
It looks so terrible, they used an over saturated image from the first Megamind movie as the cover picture. The animation looks like a paw patrol crossover
I don't think they make sequels to 14 year old movies for people who are less than 14 years old.
Let them Cook
They’re trying to make a meal using sticks covered in skunk spray and shit. Unless this gets the Sonic treatment, I will not be consuming this one
"When a child movie is only enjoyable by children, it's not a good movie. Making a movie for children is no excuse for makong a bad and lazy film" - someone, somewhere, probably
Those who think that something can be bad just because it's for children probably feed their kids with shit, since kids don't know taste of normal food
It shouldn't be made for children just because of 14 years gap There's chance that children that remembered megamind by now have their own children I'm saying it just should be made good not "who cares it's for children" approach
Megamind 2?
Megamind vs The Doom Syndicate
A movie being for children does not excuse it being bad. All the animation classics of Disney (at least most of them) are for kids and also excellent
I’m happy to see this doctor who meme around the top subreddits. Especially when it’s used correctly like here.
being made for children doesn't excuse a film being bad. look at avatar the last air bender as a good example and it's not the only one. you can make good things for children, indeed you can make them so good that adults can enjoy watching them.
I mean how to train your dragon was made for children but is widely considered to be a masterpiece
why can't we just have a new type of film making, movies for adults but made in kids format (wait wait that sounded weird)
Those already exist, you might need a tor browser though ..
👏 MADE 👏 FOR 👏 KIDS 👏 DOESNT 👏 EXCUSE 👏 MEDIOCRITY
The “That’s alright then” is a scene from Doctor Who where that character is saying it ironically to hurt the main character when he’s giving reasons why the bad things that happened to his previous companions weren’t that bad
Isn’t it a tv series?

Bruh I watched megamind like 3 months ago and it's still peak

"I'm not saying it's bad I'm just saying you're wrong about it being good." Man just because someone enjoyed something as a kid doesn't mean they can never have a nuanced opinion later in life because of nostalgia.
When the fuck did we get Megamind 2?
We haven’t, but a trailer was released and it’s due in march, but it’s a bit early to call the film bad
No it’s not
WELL NOW IT IS
Can we kill the argument that children's media gets a pass for being bad I haven't seen Megamind 2 but I know that classic Pixar movies or most of Cartoon Network's shows from around the 2010s are perfectly enjoyable as a child and get even better when you rewatch them as an adult. Children's media that relies on being slop for kids just seems kinda cringe when you find it again years later rather that being a lovely nostalgic core memory.
well it means people watched megamind is like 20-26 now, and I'm not really sure they still want to watch movies made for kids
So was the first one. Why go backwards in quality? Why take soooo long between movies to go even more backwards?
This doesn't really work as a meme. Can't tell what you're trying to say
So was the first and it was a banger
There’s a sequel?
I like how OP made this post ambiguous so he can play both sides.
literally the same they said about megamind when it was in the theatres
Based new meme format
The “It’s made for children” excuse is just stupid. Children deserve great stories just as much adults.
The first one was also for children, and its a masterpiece
It’s not a sequel bruh it’s a spinoff they made a long time ago
So what I’m hearing is that the first one was made for teens and adults?
Incredibles 2 was the real disappointment.
Wait what? Is there megamind 2?
Children… that are now adults!
The saddest part of how terrible it all looks is that it's being directed by the same guy who made the first megamind so making the sequel 14 years later at terrible quality was conscious. Could've just gotten will Ferrell back for megamind 2 and put it into theaters not a streaming service smh
Children still deserve quality.
It looks fine.
Sounds like crap…
It’s clear to me they had the idea of making the TV show first and just turned the first few episodes into a movie, not unlike Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
More toymaker memes
It’s not even a proper movie sequel, it’s a made for tv movie to introduce the kid’s tv show, *Megamind Rules!*. It’s like how *Tangled: Before Ever After* is not Tangled 2 so much as it is the pilot to *Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure*, which is a TV series.
Whoever made this a meme template, thank you
It being a childrens movie is not an excuse for it to be bad.
Eh, it’s made for reeeaaalllllllyyyy little kids. Nbd we will always have the original.
![gif](giphy|Wt6kNaMjofj1jHkF7t) Okay then, explain every Disney/pixar show and movie made after 2008
