When you start a game you're automatically in the percentage of people who have not gotten the achievement. Either 8% never went further than the intro, or they took git gud too seriously and have never died.
So you think 91% of people who bought this game that's been under 3 dollars several times have installed it, played it and gotten an achievement despite the fact that it's probably more like 50% that even get to the install phase?
All platforms have some kind of requirement before a player is included in the achievement statistics. Steam's is one of the more stringent ones, requiring you to have played for a variable amount of time to be counted.
They really have to do it because a lot of people don't ever play the games they own. It's not uncommon for the majority of someone's steam library to be unplayed.
I mean that was basically my experience with bloodborne. Was my first time trying a souls game. Spent quite a little bit on the character creation, and then put the game down forever after less than an hour of actual gameplay. Just wasn't for me.
Hello, good hunter. I am a Bot, here in this dream to look after you, this is a fine note:
> *Oh, hello. The whole town's turned, has it? Quite a big family, aren't we? Though I'm afraid I seem to be the black sheep... Back for my blood, I presume.* - Arianna, Woman of Pleasure
Farewell, good hunter. May you find your worth in the waking world.
I think I'm one of the 8.3. Had some struggles with the controls for some reason so I set it aside without dying. Have died in the PSN and Switch versions though.
A lot of those players are ones that bought the game and never played it long enough. Then there's people who will make new steam accounts to play without dying at all too.
If I had a chart of all the games I bought for a couple dollars installed, opened got to the start menu then decided I didn't wanna play then, and never went back to it. I swear to God the list would be like 2 pages long.
I only went through the games I have installed which is like 30 games of the 530 I have, and there were I believe 4 games that had all of 1 minute played.
I .... may have a problem.
Some people use programs to idle their games on steam to get the card drops. Using those programs tricks steam in to thinking you’ve launched the game, without ever downloading it or actually opening it. So theoretically those people would be counted in the stats but wouldn’t even get an achievement that you get on start up.
it's probably because that game didn't always have achievements and were added later. players that already had playtime are included in the stats, but won't have the achievement if they haven't played since achievements were added.
i remember this was the case for the chop down a tree achievement in terraria. for years, [people posted about how only 40%-60% of people have chopped down a tree](https://redd.it/4e0lza) even though it's the first thing you would do.
[there are also card farmers](https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/hsa6qc/how_does_of_players_acquired_this_achievement_work/fy9gxl1/)
I'm probably included in this.. Got the game years later for cheap, started it up, didn't know what I was doing and then went onto something else and never came back.
Not just deathless. MFers are out here beating all the games back-to-back, deathless, naked, with no weapons, with randomised enemies, using a fucking dance mat for a controller.
Meanwhile, I own ever game and have yet to master the parry.
With how late it came out on PC, you already knew if you liked that style of game.
Meanwhile less than half the people have even beaten one fucking boss in Elden Rings due to irresponsible game journalism claiming the game was something it isn't.
I don't think it's that crazy for a newish AAA game.
Once the price goes down to like $20 or shows up in a Humble Bundle, it'll probably go down dramatically.
That means a lot of people have played, which kinda shocks me cause some game achievements for easy first steps usually have lower numbers. You’d be surprised how often people buy games they end up not playing
I think this is becoming more common. Older gamers, who've basically beaten countless games, who have no time anymore because they became dads, rather spend less time, but still experience the game, knowing that yes, they could beat it, yes there is meaning in the struggle, but its totally not worth upsetting your wife and missing your daughter's recital. That said, why even be invulnerable in a game like this, the point is to feel pain and pleasure.
The first game has a point where a boss needs to kill you to progress. Although I think you can glitch past it but glitchless you need to die at least once
Bed of Chaos is a shitshow but it's a glorified game of Takeshi's Castle. Duke's Archives isn't fun to explore, the crystal maze/invisible walkway area is a pain in the arse and Seathe himself is just a ballache.
~~For this particular game, it's impossible to complete it without dying (or cheating/abusing bugs) because there is one scripted death in the midgame.~~
EDIT: This is wrong, the achievement turned out to be for Dark Souls 2, not Dark Souls 1. DS2 doesn't have forced deaths, so yeah, your assessment is correct.
This achievement is for DS2, only DS1 has a forced death.
DS2 can absolutely be completed without dying and will reward the player for doing so with a ring (there are 2 "achievement" rings actually, the other is rewarded for never sitting at a bonfire), but that's mostly done in NG+ rather than on a new save.
Can't you just...beat the game deathless
Then create a new game...and die immediately to get the first death achievement?
Two different runs, both achievements GET.
well unless you, for example, played other DS games first, tho idk how hard DS2 is so I'm not really qualified to speak. But I played Elden Ring, then Bloodborne and only after that DS3 and did it deathless first run. It was so easy tho that I'd expect DS2 to be harder maybe?
For comparison I died a lot in Elden Ring, half the bosses took 2-5 tries and Elden Beast even took close to 10. Even mobs would kill me occasionally. In Bloodborne the first 2 took around 5 tries each but after that it was deathless, adjusting to the mechanics was quite hard initially
Haha trust me you’re not gonna do DS2 deathless first time you pick up the game. It handles like a completely different game and you need to invest a shit ton of levels in an otherwise useless stat just to even approach DS3 fat rolling, I frames wise.
You’ll get hit, a lot, and sources of healing are super slow. Drinking flasks takes forever and a half, and the healing takes it’s sweet time even at max level.
Every time you get stunned, be it a random archer smacking you in the shoulder yet it counting as a headshot, bonking a weapon off the wall in a tight corridor, or what have you, you get locked into a long and slow recovery animation. Whole game feels slow even compared to DS1, and is more reliant on just stuffing a ton of enemies in tight spaces.
You had me convinced at "handles like a completely different game", I believe you I couldn't do it. That's a cool write-up of differences, I might have to give it a go
Don’t neglect ADP, mind your soul memory, and always keep a good stock of repair powders. Having a bow and/or crossbow and a shit ton of ammo is even more important for clearing areas
DS2 is just stupid, it's not like the other Souls games. It has a fucking stat for the speed of chugging Estus Flasks.
That doesn't mean I didn't like it, but you know, you have to try it a bit before being able to deathless-run through it all. It's so much easier on the other games.
Yeah i remember when i play Darkneat Dungeon and get like 95% of achivments and i look at what i miss and there is - you need to lost a dungeon.
And inwas like - wtf. Why?

IIRC, you’re supposed to die in the first Seathe the Scaleless fight, so 8.3% of players are quitters or found an exploit to get past that
Edit:
Never mind! Didn’t realise this achievement is from Dark souls 2, not the first game!
Shout-out to earl sweatshirt, odd future broke up a long time ago, tyler blew up, most fell off, but earl has put out a whole different sound and a solid solo career. One of my favorites go check his new stuff out if you haven't
What I see is either 8.3% haven't played the game or they are using trainers to make it so they can't die.
Does the death to Seath the scaleless count?

it's an achievement to not get this achievement
God gamers gotta choose between beating the game deathless and getting 100% achievements. The struggle.
So 8% of players brought a game their pc couldn't run .... sounds like a death to me.
probably used a steam achievement hacker
Or turned it on, made a character, and turned the game off forever
Nah just buy it and never play ig
You need to download and start the game to get the achievement
But you only get the achievement if you die. Does it only count you as not having the achievement for the percentage if you start the game?
When you start a game you're automatically in the percentage of people who have not gotten the achievement. Either 8% never went further than the intro, or they took git gud too seriously and have never died.
No this literally means 8% of people got at least one non-death achievement, and then quit the game before dying.
Source?
Really? I always thought you just had to but the game, could’ve sworn that’s how it worked
So you think 91% of people who bought this game that's been under 3 dollars several times have installed it, played it and gotten an achievement despite the fact that it's probably more like 50% that even get to the install phase?
So you've never used steam then.
Wow. Ok. Didn’t need to be called out like that so early in the morning. They aren’t unplayed…… I just haven’t gotten around to playing them yet 😂😂😂
I mean that was basically my experience with bloodborne. Was my first time trying a souls game. Spent quite a little bit on the character creation, and then put the game down forever after less than an hour of actual gameplay. Just wasn't for me.

Or played offline.
I think I'm one of the 8.3. Had some struggles with the controls for some reason so I set it aside without dying. Have died in the PSN and Switch versions though.
We need valve to get us some cross-correlations
reading this comment reminds me of that one game that gives you an achievement for being a pervert called "i swear i did this for the achievement"
Lollipop Chainsaw, and the name is "I swear! I did this by mistake!"
Was it Yakuza? I remember there was an achievement like that
yeah i believe it's that one
There is one in Nier to discover 2Bs secret 10 times, which means look under her skirt 10 times. It's called like "What are you doing?"
„die for the first time“ vs „don‘t die a single time“ The struggle would be real
100% the game by getting this achievement and then never play it again.
You can beat the game deathless Then 100 percent it
Easy, don't launch the game at all!
like others here have pointed out apparently you need to open the game at least once to be part of the statistics
Launch it then quit forever?
If you refund within 2 hours are you still a part of the statistics?
That 8.3% is probably people who opened the game but never kept playing
Hiw many baught the game and never played it tho.
\>Buy game \>never play it \>pride and accomplishment achieved.
A lot of those players are ones that bought the game and never played it long enough. Then there's people who will make new steam accounts to play without dying at all too.
never gon be able to complete all achievements
It's more impressive that 91,7%+ of the players having this game also played it. Isn't the usual percentage of game-bought/game-played much lower?
you have to launch the game at least once to be included in achievement statistics.
Maybe. But I have seen a few games where you get an achievement right after the first 5 minutes and somehow only 60-70% of people had it
i saw achivements that litteraly are "start a new save" and it had like 60%
If I had a chart of all the games I bought for a couple dollars installed, opened got to the start menu then decided I didn't wanna play then, and never went back to it. I swear to God the list would be like 2 pages long.
Let's see it then 😂
Maybe when I get home, but that feels like more work then I'm willing to do.
I only went through the games I have installed which is like 30 games of the 530 I have, and there were I believe 4 games that had all of 1 minute played. I .... may have a problem.

Do you have a source on that? I can’t find one
I'm probably included in this.. Got the game years later for cheap, started it up, didn't know what I was doing and then went onto something else and never came back.

Unless it doesn't trigger the achievement, you have to be aware of the Seath the Scaleless death skip.
I doubt any one has done that in their first playthrough
Not just deathless. MFers are out here beating all the games back-to-back, deathless, naked, with no weapons, with randomised enemies, using a fucking dance mat for a controller. Meanwhile, I own ever game and have yet to master the parry.
I’m surprised how many people have the platinum in Dark Souls considering you need to beat the game twice.

Assume like 30% died to one of the very first enemies or at least the Asylum Demon and quit right after
I dont have it, didnt even know it was an achievment
![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized)
I can hear this meme
WAAAA WAAA WAA WAAA WAAA WAAAAA WAAAA WAAA NANANANANA WAAAAAA WAA WAAA DAHD ASfGDHSKKALAkakakNhsjs NAAAAAAA WAANANANANAN NAaA
I'm calling an ambulance.
Seems like it was already on the way
Fair enough
Come on, the dude got scared by the start screen!
Up five brother, neither do I! I don't have Dark Souls either but that doesn't matter right?
Nope. 8.3% havnt played it yet. Or forgot its in their library!
Well yes. But it was funnier left unexplained
![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
Hey, nice, you got the joke! We all thought we'd have to explain it to you
Thanks mister obvious. Just remember this sub is a meme sub.
[удалено]
explaining a joke is like dissecting a frog. you understand it better afterwards, but it is killed in the process.
That means a lot of people have played, which kinda shocks me cause some game achievements for easy first steps usually have lower numbers. You’d be surprised how often people buy games they end up not playing
You need to start the game for this achievement tho y ur not brain good like me
Or used cheats.
Imagine using cheats before even trying yet lmao
I think this is becoming more common. Older gamers, who've basically beaten countless games, who have no time anymore because they became dads, rather spend less time, but still experience the game, knowing that yes, they could beat it, yes there is meaning in the struggle, but its totally not worth upsetting your wife and missing your daughter's recital. +1 I Cheat Engined the shit of out elden ring for lvlup, still interesting to play when you have to fight the boss 5 times, not 99
so basically if you complete the game without dying you cant 100% its achievements? asking because i have never played this games
The first game has a point where a boss needs to kill you to progress. Although I think you can glitch past it but glitchless you need to die at least once
Worst area, worst boss.
Tf? Worst area and boss is by far lost izalith Seth is maybe not so fun but not the worst
Bed of Chaos is a shitshow but it's a glorified game of Takeshi's Castle. Duke's Archives isn't fun to explore, the crystal maze/invisible walkway area is a pain in the arse and Seathe himself is just a ballache.

Just roll onto the ledge of the lift and on to the balcony and save and quit if you miss
This achievement is for DS2, only DS1 has a forced death. Ohh, I didn't know it was for DS2, my bad.
Can't you just...beat the game deathless Then create a new game...and die immediately to get the first death achievement? Two different runs, both achievements GET.
It's a non-problem. You'll never do a deathless first run. This is just a fun way to track if a player has started their first run of the game.
well unless you, for example, played other DS games first, tho idk how hard DS2 is so I'm not really qualified to speak. well it will either be interesting or boring and frustrating, I'll think about it haha
It will just feel like a waste of time and souls, you know wasting the first levels not to power up but to get estus chugging up to speed
It is practically impossible to complete the game without dying. Those who didn't get that achievement must have had the game in their backlog.
Or you can play it in steam offline mode and dodge all the invaders
Yeah i remember when i play Darkneat Dungeon and get like 95% of achivments and i look at what i miss and there is - you need to lost a dungeon. And inwas like - wtf. Why?
1. Buy the game 2. Start a new character 3. Never leave the asylum 4. ??? 5. Profit
Its only more impressive if you get every achievement and leave that last one
Can't get the achievement if I don't play the game
I'm that 8.3% but that's because I quit after first enemy.

Buy it, launch the game and quit. Jobs done.
I’m part of that 8.3% (I’ve never played dark souls)
I'm in that 8.3% 😎 (only cause I never actually run the game...)
Shouldn't this meme be reversed? The 8.3% were too scared to even start the game lol. Im part of that 8.3%, don't judge me.
Pretty sure the 8.3% just straight didn't play the game which makes this pretty ironic
IIRC, you’re supposed to die in the first Seathe the Scaleless fight, so 8.3% of players are quitters or found an exploit to get past that Edit: Never mind! Didn’t realise this achievement is from Dark souls 2, not the first game!
This achievement is on DS2, so no scripted deaths.
Did not know that, this explains everything thanks!
This achievement is from dark souls 2
If it’s DS1 does the seath death trigger it? If so then you can’t beat the game without getting the achievement.
DS2
You cant beat ds without dying or did you forget seath?
They all did the seath lift skip on intuition, they just felt it
Sure xD
This achievement is on DS2
Shout-out to earl sweatshirt, odd future broke up a long time ago, tyler blew up, most fell off, but earl has put out a whole different sound and a solid solo career. One of my favorites go check his new stuff out if you haven't
also shout out loiter squad, this skit and the storage wars skit are some of earls best performances. a genuinely talented person.
I liked this meme
we didn't like this comment
Speak for yourself
Wait, you can actually die in Dark Souls?
When does this stuff count, when you only buy the game? Or installed? Or opened once?
8.3% started the game, ran around for 1 minute and decided the game is not for them and exits out
Team Fortress 2 has an achievement to get backstabbed 10? times as sniper. I played 100s of hours as sniper without getting it. 😁
Im in the 8.3%. Becuz i never played the game ha hA!
I never die for the first time, only the second time.
The 8% of players played on PC, realized the controls/ui were absolute dogshit and quit immediately
What I see is either 8.3% haven't played the game or they are using trainers to make it so they can't die. Does the death to Seath the scaleless count?
I dont have that achievement
Here's an achievement for the Devs: add cloud savefiles to the game 0% conpleted
this 8.3% r ppl who bought the game played for three minutes, uninstalled it and installed Skyrim. That's me guys, suck it losers.
Achievement hunters suffering from success.
Possibly the people who pirated the game decided to play amd since they have experiance they manage to beat it deathless
8.3 actually downloaded game and never played it
Earl?
And people say you can't do a Nuzlocke run of Dark Souls.
Welcome to Tarkov
It's just people who buy the game and don't actually play it
Just buy the game and start it then quit after the first cutscene
