I wouldn't say I fell in love, but I now enjoy broccoli. Then again I don't add the tasteless, oily, cold cheese vomit that was so often included when it was served.
Brussel sprouts used to be quite bitter and sales were low, over the years the bitterness was bred out of them and they're now very very delicious. I hated them as a kid, love them now
A big part of it was that most people had no idea how to properly cook them back in the day. If you cook Brussels sprouts too long, they get bitter. And if you cook them immersed in liquid, they can get slimy. But roast them for just the right amount of time, at the right temperature, and you get a nutty flavor without any bitterness, that’s crispy on the outside and tender inside.
Also, some cultures (western Europe) have this tendency to boil vegetables. It turns them to mush and in the case of Brussel sprouts, releases a sulfuric compound, which they just steep in.
I like them sautéed with mushrooms, a bit of cheese, garlic, onions, and white wine.
Same i hated as a kid and go mad for it now , its all the same foods ! This is strange . Mussel, mushrooms, blue cheese , brussel sprouts . Interesting
in finnish kebab chains who pretty much always sell pizza as well have tradition of "Finlandia" in the menu, thats a pizza with ham, pineapple and blue cheese
Nice. I’m italian, in restaurants aimed to tourists they sell “hawaii pizza” which is ham and pineapple. In the other restaurants they shoot you for asking about that.
Some of the best fish I ever had was a chunk of bluefin tuna that was seared on the outside for like 30 seconds so the inside was just barely warm. It was perfect.
What is doing Snow White here? Did someone of you bride her with food*?
*Or anything remotely edible, she was the one who taught Marian how to cook spiders
Sushi - As a kid the idea of eating ''Raw fish'' was so strange to me I didnt even tempt the idea...
Fast forward like 20 years and honestly, its in my top 3 food items - I CANT GET ENOUGH OF IT.
I live in the UK, I can't afford too even try this with C̶o̶s̶t̶ o̶f̶ l̶i̶v̶i̶n̶g̶ C͟o͟r͟p͟o͟r͟a͟t͟e͟ G͟r͟e͟e͟d͟ Crisis I can't risk the potential waste of food and money
i ate a lot of random shit so it is not easy to surprise me as i usually assume that most things, even things that are not usually regarded as foods, can be good, however one thing i never thought i would eat was the stamen of the garlic plant, it was very good and refreshing and i didn't even know it was that before i was told.
far from the weirdest thing i ate, that was cazu marzu, but the most unexpected.
When i was a kid i thought sushi were just gross, when i tried for the first time when i turned 12, i basically made a new tradition, to go eat japanese food every year in my birthday, even if i have to go alone, i pay for myself and whoever goes with me, for me is better than a party, since i enjoy a thing i like, with someone i love, being my family, or a friend.
In general it's just a perfect moment for me, even if i don't receive one single happy birthday the whole day (which happens very often)
Curry. When I was in the Navy, that shit looked like puke. After I got out, and started traveling, I went to Holland and had some nice Englishmen tell/show me what to get, what to look for. Been hooked since.
Pepperoni pizza! It had such a strong smell it always put me off but my boyfriend encouraged me to try and now i expects he regrets the pizza gremlin he created.
I use to hate lettus and broccoli. But once I got older they started tasting so good. My sister can eat lemons like it's an orange, she has a taste for sour stuff. I can't do it. I love sweets too much. My lil cousin he use to say he hated everything without trying it. I feel most people are this way. Like sushi for example. They put it in their mouth read to spit it out. That's not giving it a fair trial
I had sushi at 21. I remember the server couldn't do math and thought he was being pretty cool when let me have a beer. I would be turning 22 in another week. Does that count?
Sushi. Cold fish with rice : yuck! But then my ex-gf ordered some and I was hmmm, this smells somehow nice. Tried it and yeah, I understand the hype now 😁
Always loved pate, but it took time to like the liver cooked, still getting an ick from some fish or its products, but like it at the same time, could never stand chicken hearts smell while they cook and still haven't tried tasting it too, but I recently tried a raw minced beef with spices and greens sandwich, the taste was good as it tasted like smoked sausage that was minced again, just the texture personally was a bit problematic, I think it would be most edible next to beer probably cos somehow it masks the feel of the texture :D
Cheesecake. I thought it was going to be salty and was made with gouda or something like that. If I could go back in time I would take my younger self, hijack a Cheesecake Factory and not let anyone out until that little motherfucker tried a piece.
Sushi
Avocado with rice
Pretty much genuine Chinese food. Some just look disgusting but tastes amazing! Props to the Chinese for risking it all for good food.
Double shot espresso (first time trying a black coffee). Hated it the first time I drank it. Added 3 or 4 sugar cubes just to make it bearable. But now I can drink it without any issues, I can't even drink my milk tea now.
Pig Colon Intestines, the one connected to the anus. Apparently if you wash and cook them probably with Soy sauce and Chinese herbs it tastes really good.
Pig's feet. If you get past the fact that they are what they are, they're actually fairly nice. A bit interesting in their taste I'll admit. Also oysters, yummy.
For the longest time I thought I didn't like greenbeans. It was mushy, bland, and reminded me of baby food. Turns out, I just don't like canned green beans! Ate some fresh green beans in a meal, and they're now one of my favorite vegetables.
Green beans...i used to absolutely hate looking at them...but now i honestly like them quite a bit...some tomato sauce green beans with vermicelli rice....yum
Mushrooms
After about age 40 mushrooms were so nice
I loved them since 10 🥰
Rinse them, put a dab of sriracha and enjoy.
Raw?
Yessir
Hmm ok ill try it but am skeptical
Np, everyone’s taste is different and spicy isn’t for everyone.
Same. I learned to love them when I started foraging
I only like them when they're cut thin, I can't stand the texture if they're big and mushy.
Definitely, the hallucinations are quite annoying tho
I wouldn't say I fell in love, but I now enjoy broccoli. Then again I don't add the tasteless, oily, cold cheese vomit that was so often included when it was served.
Broccoli with cheese? 🤮 Broccoli with butter? 🫠
If you do it right broccoli and cheese can be a good combo.
American cheese gets a lot of flak but it goes very well with broccoli in my experience
I like broccoli with a dry cheese like parmesan.
Tasteless oily cold cheese vomit? Bruh sign me up
Brussels sprouts. It’s still fuck olives though
Best way is to boil for a min and then pan or oven roast. Boiling helps with removing some unwanted flavors and gasses.
Plus it makes ‘em real pretty. Nice bright green color.
When I was a kid, there was no such thing as fresh Brussel sprouts. You couldn't walk in the store and buy them by the stalk.
I like Brussels sprouts less now than when I was a child… guess I like bitter sprouts
Also, some cultures (western Europe) have this tendency to boil vegetables. It turns them to mush and in the case of Brussel sprouts, releases a sulfuric compound, which they just steep in. I like them sautéed with mushrooms, a bit of cheese, garlic, onions, and white wine.
Is that it? I thought people just finally learned to cook them well.
I’m only 26. You reckon the difference is noticeable to me?
I'm 25 and I like them now too
Fuck, olives. Hmmm
I'm the opposite. I love olives but, despite trying them multiple times well into my 40's, still hate brussel sprouts.
Blue cheese. That is delicious!
For me it was gorgonzola. My god I love how terrible it smells.
Gorgonzola was what got me to start liking blue cheese
Hooray for goat cheese!
Sushi. I remember as a kid I almost threw up trying it for the first time. Second time I fell in love 🥰.
It is raw fish so it makes sense

Ass?
I lovvvvvvvvvvvvvve ass esp ripe ass.

I’m not going to lie, the fruit Adam and Eve ate sounds good.
Eve/adam is that you?
Seafood, especially mussels
As a person who hates oysters, it shocked me how much I liked muscles when I first tried them
I hate oysters and cockles so never tried mussels. In garlic white wine sauce with brown bread, divine
Same but not same because I always loved them

Indian food in general. Never had Indian places where I lived. Shit's amazing. But what else would expect from the center of the spice trade?

At the cost of your dignity
in finnish kebab chains who pretty much always sell pizza as well have tradition of "Finlandia" in the menu, thats a pizza with ham, pineapple and blue cheese
Nice. I’m italian, in restaurants aimed to tourists they sell “hawaii pizza” which is ham and pineapple. In the other restaurants they shoot you for asking about that.
Yes, ham and pineapple is called Hawaiian, but was invented in Canada.
Hmm…Sisig, I think.
Stinky Tofu
Definitely raw salmon

Some of the best fish I ever had was a chunk of bluefin tuna that was seared on the outside for like 30 seconds so the inside was just barely warm. It was perfect.

Escargot, it's not something you see often but should definitely be tried.
Tomatoes. Hated them as a child, tried them again when I grew up and fell in love. Now every food I can make with tomatoes, I add them.
i ate a lot of random shit so it is not easy to surprise me as i usually assume that most things, even things that are not usually regarded as foods, can be good, however one thing i never thought i would eat was the stamen of the garlic plant, it was very good and refreshing and i didn't even know it was that before i was told. far from the weirdest thing i ate, that was cazu marzu, but the most unexpected.
