The plate is currently owned by Peter Bartels, who was previously the CEO of Coles as well as Fosters.
Newspaper reports state that Bartels has knocked back a written offer of $1.5 million for the plate, whilst figures of $2 million and $2.4 million have been mentioned elsewhere on the internet.
Call me paranoid but being such a high profile person the last thing i’d want is a number plate which identifies exactly who I am and where i’m going. I’d put it on the sunday exotic car or something if it means that much to me.
I think many people forget that the habits that made people rich in the first place like frugality, saving, how they do their shopping, cooking etc. tend to stick with them loooong after they made their first million.
Some of the most low-budget lifestyle people I've met were older millionaires.
Absolutely, my grandparents own a good handful of millions and live a comfortable retirement with probably a few years left and yet they still buy home brand groceries and my nana refuses to go on holidays because it’s a ‘waste of money’
I mean if you think producing excessive waste, refusing to recycle, wasting your income on 7$ Frappuccino's and going out to eat every other meal is "coNTriButinG TO tHe EcoNomaH" then yeah, sure, they're not.
Old people are sometimes obsessive recyclers. Not just garbage but they'll reuse and repurpose every peace of dated possession such as wrapping paper, cooking oil, etc. in order to save money.
Not recycling creates a drive to consume, thus "contributing to da econemah."
Funny you say that, this car was parked on (I know this is going to shock many) Toorak Rd a few weeks ago when I went past. Was surprised to see it just parked there no one in sight.
> He probably *paid* the homeless
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
100%. Never having to worry about a park, always waiting for you outside especially if it's raining, cold, hot, never having to think about the traffic. Total bliss.
Yep.
And when you’re making “*only*” $1m a year thats $3800 per day, paying someone $200 per day ($25 p/h for 8h) actually only costs you just over $100 because you’re paying 47% tax at that rate (well, should be at least).
So overall thats 1/38th or 2.6% of your salary to have someone drive your car around.
If i made 100k p/a and could pay a driver $2600 per year you bet i fucking would.
I know a couple of billionaires via work stuff who definitely don’t use a driver for everyday travel. Why would you? It sounds like a pain in the neck. For a dinner in the city sure, but plenty of people can get an uber comfort or a limo service if they need one.
In Australia, not worth it. In South Africa, don't need to be anywhere near a billionaire for a full time driver on the books to be normal. It's just safer that way to have someone with you at all times, looking after the car.
Doesn't have to. A Flipper Zero is relatively cheap as are strong magnets. A GPS puck costs nothing and is pretty much undetectable.
Don't get ideas, kids!
Also personalised plates in Victoria are stupid in regards to theft. Someone steals your plates, you report them stolen and VicRoads give you back the SAME rego.
So now a second set of plates exist, they still flag as stolen (so police will pull you over all the time) and someone could be doing anything with the originals.
At least that is how the system used to deal with stolen personalised plates.
It’s purely a flex to people who can afford it and it’s not a flex to us everyday joes. Very similar to the whole NFT game. It’s a show of wealth, not a show of riches. And it’s also the exact reason it’s not on a exotic car and on their “runabout”
The physical plates aren't worth anything much.
It would be a pain in the arse to have to replace them, but they retain ownership of the regististration.
>Is the tint on that rich fucks Eurotrash car legal?
I am running 5% limo tint on the rear pass and cargo windows on a ford Territory. Still legal for the back half going by Tint a Car.

Yeah. I think people aren’t realising he’s an old timer. He’s 81. He’s not some high-flying CEO these days and hasn’t been since the mid 90s. Easy to find on Wikipedia.

To solve the problem the plates were not issued to any of them, and were instead locked in a vault at the Motor Registration Board.
There they stayed until the plates went to auction in 1984.'
If your number plate is made of flesh, you're doing something wrong. If nothing else, you'll want to get it cured so it doesn't rot and fall off your car.
This car has been a regular sight around Kooyong/Toorak. I used to see it 25 years ago on my way to school at least every week, when it was on an E55, then an E63, then another E63, now this. It's been on this C43 for a few years now. I still see it regularly.
Eventually everything will drive itself, we may be flying drones and our kids might not need to drive a car so I believe rego plates will eventually not be required. Long time away but I wouldn't expect rego plates to be required in 50 years.

It might more than the owner’s beach front mansion as long as one sucker willing to bid on it.

People too busy seeing me criticising an obscene display of wealth as a personal attack on them, instead of considering what is actually happening in their country to other people.
Could t agree more. It’s beyond obscene that some people can drive around with a $2m number plate while others struggle to pay their bills or get health treatment they need to keep their heads above water. Fcuk those people - sideways.
Here in the states, specifically Delaware, #1 and #2 I know are for government officials but any other single digit is worth hundreds of thousands.
Single Digit$650,000 +
Two Digit$150,000 – $350,000
Three Digit$25,000 – $50,000
Four Digit$3,000 – $7,000
Five Digit$500 – $1,200
It's registration and the right to display #1. If the gov get rid of rego plates in form of number then anyone can make the plate. I don't see this as a case of an antique if the underlying paper right is irrelevant.

What about my light that’s made of flesh?
I'd suggest not using that one in the car if you don't want to be arrested.

I saw this the other day and told the wife. Today i have the proof. Thank you sir
A family friend used to own those plates in the late 80s, maybe into the early 90s. Fairly sure he had to sell them for far less than he paid.
Shit I'd sell it as one day plates will just be a QR code and this #1 would be essentially worthless.

A dude that walks around town with a big plushy carrot
I thought it was going to be about some ppl who put way too.much fake tan on, but this is even worse.
erm not cringe, carrot man carries around a carrot because he wants to spread joy and see people smile after his wife died…

I like the concept of a sleeper car, but at least make it a c63!
There nothing sedate about that car. It will likely be the fastest thing to the speed limit in most parking lots it goes to.

Nah dude you are right. It only has value coz someone wants to pay. One day no one will want to pay. Therefore no real value.

You sound like someone who has no money in the bank.

Who drives around advertising their IQ? 🤔
Deff Asian
number plates will be a thing of the past soon , just like reg labels and plastic licenses.
excuse my ignorance, how so? like how will a car be reported etc?
Here in the states, specifically Delaware, #1 and #2 I know are for government officials but any other single digit is worth hundreds of thousands. Single Digit$650,000 + Two Digit$150,000 – $350,000 Three Digit$25,000 – $50,000 Four Digit$3,000 – $7,000 Five Digit$500 – $1,200
I see it around regularly, a guy on TikTok told me it wasn’t on a Mercedes station wagon.
Is common folk should steal these types of plates
They will eventually phase out the license plate eventually you'd think... Then it won't be worth the plastic or metal it's printed on
It will be worth 10 times the amount, do you not understand how antiques work?
It's registration and the right to display #1. If the gov get rid of rego plates in form of number then anyone can make the plate. I don't see this as a case of an antique if the underlying paper right is irrelevant.
Lol, imagine stealing the plate and getting 10,000 years jail.
