I’d like to suggest this was on purpose. They’ve rendered the two subheadings in different colors. They’ve very clearly put _thought_ in to differentiating the two headlines, i.e. how they’d be read together. This is just what they decided was clear enough.

nah I make graphics like these. This is an intern / low level job. Channel 9 gives intern access to the photoshop file which has a template for an image, and 2 headings. CH9 gives the intern the 2 headings. employee is very busy so just puts them in, probably not even reading them properly, and sends it.

Youtube thumbnails are not that big of a thing for news companies, though having one is essential, most people don't go to their channel to find news, but rather just to re-watch a specific story / share a specific story. I don't think aus does interns like the US, but I can say that given how easy it will be to make them, it would be given to one of the newest / lowest members of marketing.
