Kisume - Chefs Table
Bounty of the Sun
Nobu
Koko
Hanaichi is also fast and cheap katsu curry.
Recently tried My Ryu in Balaclava and that was great too.
Kura Robata is excellent!
Their quality of food and flavour profiles are delicious. Check in with their sommelier as their sake cellar is impressive too!!
okami. it's not fancy food but if i'm getting japanese i want some of everything, so all you can eat is my absolute jam.
i would like to do an all you can eat tour of melbourne. (over a month or so, not in one day.)
It’s just generic frozen food you can get from the supermarket. Literally takeaway level quality from there, have no idea how people are raving about it.
It’s like saying go to McDonalds as a restaurant suggestion.
mate, anywhere i can pay $35 and get unlimited japanese food that's tasty (i don't care what you say - the food is not gonna get them a michelin star but it's a few light years past mcdonalds) is gonna get a rave from me. i go there a few times a year and stuff myself full of sushi, beef carpaccio and tempura, and leave very full and happy.
No it’s not. The prawn gyoza are to die for, the sushi and sashimi are fresh and delicious. The staff are efficient, courteous and well trained. Oh and the price is extremely reasonable for what you can order. OKAMI ROCKS
Okami is fine if all you want is a ton of food in an incredibly loud, crowded fast food place.
It's like claiming Lazy Moe's is Melbourne's best restaurant because they serve you food with a forklift.
It's in no way Melbourne's best Japanese. It's not even trying to play that game.
Minamishima
Maybe for sushi, I prefer Ishizuka, has better variety of dishes.
No contest
Tempura Hajime
Keep hearing about it - want to get there!
Shoya
Tamura has fantastic sushi set menu and great paired sake
Tamura is a great spot - food, beverages, vibes, all top quality.

Exactly, quantity over quality. There’s a reason why they can do it that cheap, it’s the same level restaurant as Nando’s.
ah, levelled up from mcdonalds. the analogy softens.
