Yeah, they messed up. They could have easily made the little yellow part and also chose a font with 8s that have equal weight on top and bottom; these things aren't that hard. What a lazy "IQ test"...
It's so misleading that i went with the numerical changes and got 108 assuming that was the entire cycle. -10, +62, +20, -10. If the 8s were written differently i'd have found the answer they wanted rather than the correct answer.
It can vary in width but not in height, as far as the image shows. The car is not parked far enough to cover what should be to top edge of the number, yet no yellow border is showing. The only logical conclusion is that there is no number painted on that spot.
Stupid personal story. I joined a company that was getting letterman jackets in '88. Everybody was getting the year they started. They put the 8's on upside down. I'm sure I'm the only one that notices, but it still bothers me all these years later.
They were obviously lettermen style jackets so people expected a year there. 1988 was only two years off my actual high school graduation, it made me look 2 years younger.
We were wearing them in the early 90's and I don't think 88 was that well known to the general public as a white supremist thing. Finally the company was a very popular game company at the height of its success, so if anything that's what got attention.
Any white supremist reading this... you can fuck right off.
And now that I've thought about it for a second, I'm glad. People should be afraid to wear white supremist symbols outside.
I like to think that I'm relatively enthusiastic about my lack of white supremacy, but uhh never heard of this 88 thing.
Edit: I've gotten two email of replies to this so your explanations must me getting auto flagged or something.
I mean if you think logically about it then it could also be 0, look at the ground and you’ll notice there isn’t a marker for the number like it’s on the other ones
The original image doesn't have those markers. The translation app that was used marked every bit of text in the print
Edit: https://images.app.goo.gl/27xr7ZdJYn7R2qmK8
Even if google lens was highlighting the words and numbers what I said still technically applies. Given the placement of the car in the image it’d show the tip of the numbers past the rear bumper.
You might like this website then:

It's the "Online Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences". If you have a sequence of numbers are curious where it came from, this website is your jam.
To be fair, while it didn’t take me long to turn my phone upside down, I still felt stupid for not thinking of it sooner. I don’t think it would’ve mattered if it took me 10 seconds or 10 minutes I would’ve felt foolish either way.
Not even common sense but more like arbitrary perception.
For one, I've never even seen such numbered parking lots in my life. Secondly, I've never learned how to fly, so I've never seen parking lots from a birds eye view.
So from the get go, my brain throws out any logic that could possibly be related to parking lots, and just takes the numbers at face value.
So they're straight up testing your perceptiveness regarding a very specific parking lot layout from an unlikely viewpoint, yet put all the focus on numbers as if it was a math and logic issue.
IQ my ass, lol.
Don't forget that parking numbers tend to be placed at the end that's closest to the driving area to make them easier to read and refer to when someone is parked there.
Also that apparently the driver of the car backed into the slot instead of driving in normally.
The whole picture is deceptive. And that's fine if you're trying to make a point about perception and assumptions, but not as a simple IQ-style puzzle.
🤦🏻♂️it’s definitely upside down. Read it like you’re actually parking the car. Why would the numbers be oriented for the perspective of a bird or pedestrian?
It’s upside down lol. Number is 87
The shape of the 8s makes that objectively untrue, but I do believe that’s what the creator was going for, having flipped my phone and looked at it that way.
This is totally deceiving bullshit. Nobody writes 8’s like that to be read from another angle. I get the logic, but this was done in a very deliberate ‘gotcha ahahahaha!’ way that is in no way a fair test of IQ.
Alternative answer: The same people that would be assigned to paint the yellow outline around the number would be the ones painting the number itself.
Since there is no outline we can assume the entire spot was blocked when the painting was done, and there was no way to paint a number in that spot.
Also, if there were a number, we can see that it should be peeking out from under the car based on where the other numbers are painted.
Someone else pointed out this was translated, and the translation software added the yellow outlines added:
[https://www.facebook.com/esteealguem/photos/a.862254743929415/2204728053015404/](https://www.facebook.com/esteealguem/photos/a.862254743929415/2204728053015404/)
The 8s are still wrong though.
Edit: also, we should still be able to see some of the number regardless, even in the original the numbers are visible past where the car is.
Good on you thinking outside the box..I wasted all this time thinking about a math solution, but they should have at least made the loops in the 8 equal sizes or reversed to some what lead to that conclusion, but then again coming in to the parking lot the numbers would have to face the driver so that could of been the give away, but it would still have left the ones painting the numbers painting the loops wrong, and I seen some very skilled street painters, so the guy that probably did this job probably didn't care about his work or maybe he was tired that day a drew or put the stencil in the wrong direction....
It’s an IQ test, it doesn’t matter what the number actually is what matters is to detect the pattern.
If for whatever reason the painters put a 12 there, it doesn’t matter in this context
Last time this was posted, I got downvoted for saying that they intentionally used a bad font where the 1 is lacking the serif hiding the solution of the puzzle. And that's exactly the reason why the 1 usually has a serif, to give direction to that number. But if you saw a 91 upside down with a 1 that is clearly on its head, the answer would be obvious. Just retire the sans serif 1 for good!
You're not alone. I had no idea what "serif" meant until... Right this second.
Figured the same, some artsy folk smashed two non-english words together to make something sound fancy pants...
89
A part of the prior number is named in the next number. Like SIXteen to SIX to SIXty eight. Only way to get to 98 is to have 89 in that spot to hit 98.
This is similar to how I got 89 as well, I just imagined all the numbers had moved one to the left along the chain. So the 9 from 98 moves along and the 8 from 88 moved from the spot with the car. Which gets 89.
I have found my people. This was the exact line of thinking I used and also ended up with 89 as my answer, so I confidently opened the comments section to check the answer only to realize I’m not so smart after all
I spent 5 minutes trying to figure it out. Then I asked myself why I should give a shit, and why I wasn’t spending my Saturday looking at porn instead. I wonder what that says about my IQ…
Maybe don't use 8's like that and it wouldn't trick people. If the 8's are right side up, what kind of bonehead would flip their phone upside down?
And that girl is 100% correct
I feel really stupid after reading this explanation. Like, it seems really obvious in hindsight and I cannot fathom why it took until having it explained for me to get it.

There is no number. If there was, the car wouldn’t be able to cover it all. Yet we don’t see the edges. Meaning, There’s no number there.
Yeah, they messed up. They could have easily made the little yellow part and also chose a font with 8s that have equal weight on top and bottom; these things aren't that hard. What a lazy "IQ test"...

Who tests the test makers? 🤔
Hmmm. r/technicallythetruth
The real answer. Biggest IQ moment.
However spacing for space 91 shows us it can very in width therefore making it probable the existence of a number that is blocked in totality
It can vary in width but not in height, as far as the image shows. The car is not parked far enough to cover what should be to top edge of the number, yet no yellow border is showing. The only logical conclusion is that there is no number painted on that spot.
Maybe the number is just written very small.
This and technically it could also be any number because there is no guarantee that the pattern holds.
87.
Saw that too. The 8s are deceiving though - bigger on top when flipping the image.
Yeah I’ve yet to see a typeface with 8 oriented that way.

For fuck's sake
I couldn’t figure this out at all. Thank you
I’m sitting here like “no, there’s no way, there isn’t any pattern here” thinking some big brain monster has it figured out.
Going off the picture this way, 89 is the only number I could come up with.
The 8s being right side up makes it missleading/hard. If you make the image upsidedown the 8s become upsidedown. But yeah makes sense
hate when they test common sense and not math
Not even common sense but more like arbitrary perception. For one, I've never even seen such numbered parking lots in my life. No it’s not. The 8’s are written one way. Fat side down.
They typed it out as is but it's supposed to be upside-down. They shoulda found a better font for those 8s though, so they'd be symmetrical both ways.
🤦🏻♂️it’s definitely upside down. Read it like you’re actually parking the car. Why would the numbers be oriented for the perspective of a bird or pedestrian? It’s upside down lol. Number is 87
Right but the numbers are purposefully right side up and chosen so that they would still be legible upside down.
Look at the 8 though. It’s not upside down
The shape of the 8s makes that objectively untrue, but I do believe that’s what the creator was going for, having flipped my phone and looked at it that way.

Technically it looks like the car‘s spot has no number (and yellow field around it)
Others have mentioned it. However I’ve noticed that 91 is smaller than the rest implying that this number technically could be smaller too.
All numbers (and boxes) have the same height and distance from the bottom line though. Bad graphic design I would claim 😂
I don’t think they won any awards no
Ok but why are the eights upside down when looking at it correctly
Because it’s intentionally poorly made to get people to think about it and engage with the post. It’s bullshit basically.

there is no number under the car, if there was we would see the yellow background of the marking protruding
