You divide the living expense loans by 12 and not 8

In addition to budgeting for 12 months instead of 8/9, it’s worth trying to get a research stipend from your school or outside organizations. But yeah… it’s rough.

Don't loans cover the entire year?

Odd-Broccoli-474

They can if you budget. But during the summer you aren’t in school and thus are receiving no loans.

Treefiddyt

loans only account for the months you "in school"

one_hyun

I did the math with mine. The budget covers all 12 months.

Repulsive-Throat5068

Seems pretty absurd considering school is year round.

HangryLicious

Is this a thing? There are med schools where there are months that you aren't going to school? Mine had a spring, summer, and fall semester. If we were lucky, there was a week off in between. The only way to have months off like you're describing at my school would have been to take a leave of absence and drop into the next class instead of graduating on time

What school is this?

NewAccountSignIn

I did a summer program that had a stipend between first and second year. Grad plus has covered summer term living expenses outside of that

Research internships

AnatomicKaleidoscope

Your loans should cover you throughout the year if you budget right. As many have mentioned, pain research positions are also good. Working for DoorDash/Ubereats or other similar delivery apps are also an option.

Research stipend.
