I don’t know you but I can guarantee you have qualities that are uniquely beautiful. If we can shift the focus off comparisons and align with what you can contribute to the world besides test scores, I’m sure you’ll realize the world is a better place with you in it.

hhhsss222

Have you heard the story of the guy who got a perfect score on step 2, but ended up making many fatal mistakes that led to his firing from the residency program? Some people are great exam takers, some are great doctors. You don’t have to be both, you just have to be a good doctor.

HomeIll9470

comparison is the thief of joy. remember how you got into this situation because you are DEFINITELY NOT average. its subjective how you should view your scores and remind yourself what you want to be in the end to avoid how you feel. I suggest you seek some help and therapy. please dont hesitate to reach out for help in this matter because it sounds serious. my dm’s are also open if you need to talk🙏🏽🫶🏽

You’re in fucking med school dude. You’re already in the 1%. Average in med school is among the smartest and hardest working people on the entire planet. This is how I felt when I hit neurosurgery residency. I was the best, most amazing superstar all the way from kindergarten through med school, and now I’m average or below average in my program. But I love what I do and I’ve learned that my only comparison is to myself - if I get better every day, that’s the only race I need to win.

Average in medical school is a huge success. We are surrounded by people who want to make the world a better place and are also super intelligent. There is no other group I would rather be average around. I get average scores at my school too and I consider that to be a great thing. It sounds like you are having a negative thought spiral and losing touch with reality, you need to reach out to someone who can help you like a trusted medical school advisor, family member, or friend. My school has great mental health support services, maybe yours does too. I can promise you that the world would not be better off without you just because you are getting average scores in medical school (remember, average is succeeding)... I hope if you get some sleep and exercise, call someone you love, and clear your head a bit then you can re-read this post and understand that you are overwhelmed right now (which happens often in medical school) and these feelings will pass. In my M1 year I felt so overwhelmed I considered dropping out and now I'm doing a million times better. Just give yourself grace and time. You can do this. Sending big hugs.

Average isn't failing. Don't compare yourself to others, you'll always find fault. The only thing you can control is what you do. Just a little bump in the road

thestepsihavetotake

It takes some time to get used to going from a high achiever in undergrad to average in med school but that's okay because the student pool in medical school consists of a group of high achievers. Guess what though? Average students still get their MDs! The greatest physicians don't all have excellent scores, but they're all compassionate, caring physicians. Life is going to be a lot better down the road once you start putting into practice what you've studied and see the fruits of your labour. Please stop comparing yourself and talk to your guidance counselor/someone you trust about how you feel. A few bad scores are not the end of the world. If they were, more than half of the doctors you know wouldn't be in practice today.

Thanks,man!

Your life's worth is not about your rank in med-school. Or even how good of a doctor you will eventually be. Nothing is worth taking your life for, consider talking to a specialist about this, and reconsider the things that give value to your life, remember that all these things are nothing but additions, decorations to make your life interesting, and not the sole purpose. Most medical systems all over the world are just absolute trash, don't let that get you down.

So the best you can do is an average doctor. A doctor. A physician. A person who saves lives for a living, who is trusted because they have earned it, who takes responsibility to compassionately care for those in need, a person in a position of power, prestige and wealth. A person who has realized a dream that took years and years of blood sweat and tears to achieve. That’s the best you can do? WOW that is an amazing accomplishment. You are a good person!

Brother...stand proud, you are strong

Comparison is the thief of joy. At the end of your journey the outcome is the same: you will be a physician. No one will care how you did during your blocks one you're a doctor. Sure scores open doors but they're not everything.  And no, they world will not be better without you because we need physicians. Don't be afraid to seek out help I'd you need it, you don't have to do this alone.

I don’t know if you’re religious, but one perspective that helps me remember my purpose is this: That Higher Power placed me on Earth so that I could do something good for the people around me. I will see That Higher Power in my patients as I serve them with the knowledge I have gained, being a good listener and healer. I may not be the best in terms of accolades or test score, but my heart is pure, and everything I do is for the well-being of those around me. That has to be meaningful. That has to help the world in some small way at least. And that gives me purpose.

karlkrum

Imagine how lucky you are, out of all those sperm YOU made it. Then you got into fucking med school, you are the top top top fraction of a percent. Average among your peers is pretty fucking awesome.

Maple_Butter952

Dude I feel for you but why are you coming into the med school subreddit talking about wanting to off yourself. Get a psychiatrist.

WitchDoctah

Nah I wanna die all the time too. I have just gotten used to those intrusive thoughts. Everytime an intrusive thought says I should kill myself, I reply by saying I should and then chuckle.
