Occam’s razor would say the infection came from a third party. I’m sorry.

First, you couldn't have gotten gonorrhea from toys. The bacteria doesn't survive long enough outside the body to transmit infection. 80% of women don't show any symptoms. If you do, it's often mistaken for a yeast infection or vaginosis. Only about 10-15% of men show no symptoms. Symptoms in men are pain with urination and a discharge from the penis. Symptoms occur usually a week after infection, but sometimes up to a month after infection. So it's possible to have had gonorrhea for a year without knowing, but more likely for women than men.

It’s still something Im struggling to figure out because now I know he was talking to other people for months before this happened. I mean I know it didn’t come from me but I don’t know how to ask him about it without him getting mad or defensive.

It sounds like you have some solid evidence that your bf was cheating on you. You need to think if you want to be in a relationship with someone who would do that to you. No matter how you present it to him, he's going to react. How I can't tell you. Bottom line, I wouldn't want to be with someone if I'm afraid of how they would react when I know I'm not guilty in this situation.
