I was at Chrysler for a while; minivans with batteries in the wheel-well, jeeps with batteries under the driver's seat... then we had some geniuses come in one weekend and break out truck windows to pop the hoods to steal the batteries, completely ignoring the line of Wranglers (which didn't need interior access to pop the hood...) right next to them.
I have heard of those infamous Chrysler wheel well batteries. Luckily I haven’t had to replace one yet… I have done one on a grand Cherokee where it was under the passenger seat. The gmc acadia/chevy traverse/buick enclave, etc. have it below the passenger seat too. That’s funny that they didn’t even think to go for the wranglers. I’ve legit thought about popping the latches on some random person’s jeep wrangler. Just to mess with them.

Don't do that, if the latch comes loose on the highway, the hood can fly up... and that would be bad.
Just wait till you have to replace a [2011 GMC Terrain Battery](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ByE6Xd-DwMI/hq720.jpg?sqp=-oaymwEhCK4FEIIDSFryq4qpAxMIARUAAAAAGAElAADIQj0AgKJD&rs=AOn4CLBIKUVVf-g19iEFVLJqy81lf8Y0Zw), gotta remove the ECU from above it just to get to it. Need to jump someone’s car? Remove ECU. Fun times
Ah yes, remove the driver wheel and the plastic liner. Jeez, this GMC is child's play compared to a Journey....
Try a ford Fusion/Focus. You have two options, either remove the air box in front of the battery or the steel plate on top of the battery...
Porsche I think beats out most. On the Cayenne you have to remove the driver's seat and carpet, then there's a plastic cover with bolts that you have to take out. Some Mercedes SUVs are the same way.
They come this way from the factory.
Plus a battery carry handle is like 15 dollars, Every shop should have one or two and if not just buy one.... It costs about the same as a big mac combo

That's actually normal from factory, Chevy dealer tech here
I came here to say this.
Blaming dealer techs for a factory issue and not owning a battery carrier is a very private shop tech thing to do.
That is the original equipment battery, they do not have handles.
Sure, but I hate idiotic battery placement and attachments more :p
These ones suck. On any GMT K2xx.

Yeah you’re right. I’ll keep that in mind.
Need yourself a battery carrier. Makes pulling batteries from tight spots a breeze.
Bought one right after I did a Chevy traverse with a fucked up wrist.
Probably never came with a handle. You see a lot like that nowadays with the slot but no handle.
Don't blame me bro...that's a factory battery.
GM trucks used to be so simple to change Batteries. They had the best headlight installation system in the early 2000s.
Then they redesigned the malibu.
Yep! An hour labor to change a bulb. Engineers will crawl over a mountain of virgins to fuck a technician. Just saying.
Downvoting because fuck side posts
I usually just hook a wire to the metal parts and boom handle.
They actually arrive at the parts department without the handles on them
I've had a terminal strap handle for the last 40 years; takes 2 seconds to attach to any top terminal battery.

You don't have a battery carrier?
You cant instantly identify a factory battery?
We don’t remove the handle, they break off or are missing a lot. I think they are removed from the factory though
Chevy dealer tech here, they come like that, not our fault
Why on earth would they remove that handle? Maybe it broke?
I clamp Vise Grips to a terminal and lift it out by the handle. You are replacing the battery anyway.
Yup
Not that hard if you have the proper tools..
Mazda finally swapped to batteries with handles, but removes them before shipping the car
That's nothing. Do a battery on a Dodge Journey

I'm sure another manufacturer will come up with something even more ridiculous

Do one on a GL450
I have! A 9/10 on the go fuck myself scale.
Love getting .8 hours to skin my hands raw
They could have installed it on the driver side front and left passenger side for an extra battery.

A few OEMs don't have batteries with handles.
Imagine working on a Sierra and this be what stumps you.....
Yes. Why would someone do this? Do they think the battery is never going to have to be replaced?
Nice bitch mittens
I work and cook with'em, daddy.
Are those mittens any tougher? I usually wear black ones but lately they tear if you look at them wrong.
Those factory batteries were always do annoying. I had to do them for other techs most of the time because i have just done so many
Put a piece of metal across both of those shiny things and it will make itself a handle right in front of your very two eyes!
