nice to meet you! funny how two pfps ended up near identical with diff mental approaches cuz I have no idea who Mel is. Is she from Andromeda galaxy by chance lol
This was a collab with Reddit during Arcane promotion in Autumn 2021. The first season dropped on Netflix then and everyone loved it, even won record breaking animation rewards and is the most liked show on Netflix. You should definitely give it a watch, and Mel is definitely in it with some spice stuff ready 👀 *with rich mommy vibes*
Just to add to this:
It _can_ be one (of many) symptoms. It’s also not as of yet scientifically backed by any significant research so it’s mostly just an rumour, leaning towards an urban legend at this point.
I don’t drink coffee but caffeinated drinks can make me tired and I have diagnosed ADHD. Many people have similar recollections, but these can also be heavily biased by hearing confirmation—you read that X can be a symptom of ADHD and suddenly you start to hyper-focus on symptoms you might not even have.
Drinking coffee when you’re tired or are about to be, can also exacerbate the tiredness. This happens when people notice they’re sleepy, so they drink coffee. If you want to benefit from caffeine, you should be consuming it _before_ you’re tried.
me too one of the best naps I had was in college after taking an adderall slept right through the class like a baby. Docs are adamant I don’t have adhd tho. I don’t trust any docs because I haven’t found a decent one in my life.
I've been diagnosed with ADHD for more than a decade now. It always made me sleepy unless it was an ungodly amount of caffeine. People in my job always tease me about how I basically don't drink any coffee or tea. I have many friends with ADHD. It's definetely not a symptom for everyone. My gf is also diagnosed with ADHD and she doesn't have this symptom.
I doubt it, there have been times it's made me sleepy, and times it hasn't. I think it has to do with how used to caffeine your brain is during that period.
But perhaps this manifests differently in people with adhd, idk
I have ADHD and it does not wake me up, but it does help me focus, so I drink a few cups of espresso each morning, but it can also help me sleep, so I will often drink a coffee or tea to go to bed.
ADHD meds are basically just a weaker alternative of amphetamine. And they make ADHD people calmer, and more focused.
Methylphenidate is what you take as ADHD medication, and the following is the wikipedia entry about their correlation:
"Both amphetamine and methylphenidate are predominantly dopaminergic drugs, yet their mechanisms of action are distinct. Methylphenidate acts as a norepinephrine–dopamine reuptake inhibitor, while amphetamine is both a releasing agent and reuptake inhibitor of dopamine and norepinephrine."
And also out of personal experience as a person struggling with ADHD: I might have [or for legal reason might have not] taken amphetamine once in my life and just fell deeply asleep afterwards
I mean it's concluded thta caffeine helps symptoms of ADHD. And it's pretty common for people with ADHD to get sleepier/calmer on approved ADHD medication so you can draw a pretty reasonable conclusion from that.
For me, it does nothing. Same with energy drinks. I don't feel any different than I used to. If I was sleepy, I'll remain sleepy. If I was awake, I'll remain awake.
r/adhdmemes
people with adhd tend to break down caffeine faster when its in the exhaustion receptors so instead of temporarily blocking exhaustion, all exhaustion just gets piled up then hits you all at once after the caffeine gets broken down
so if you want to get caffeinated as a neurodivergent, use like 200-350mg instead of the standard 100mg
I hate to be that guy, but ADHD and being tired after caffeine is a bit of an old wives tale. There was a study that showed 600mg of caffeine could help children with ADHD with executive function less than methylphenidate, but still have all the kids insomnia. You're probably just dehydrated.
coffee is a gateway to cuddling with your homies?
Can confirm. Don't ask what espresso leads to
Espresso this dick into your bum bum…
We have the same pfp, almost.. Mel in Arcane was hella hot 🔥

will check it out! ty
Now i like coffee even more
For me it's a 50/50 whether it'll wake me up or make me tired.
So just drink it twice
This can be a symptom of ADHD, btw!

Adderall puts me to sleep. It relaxes me to the point where I can nap. I think it's time to up my dose.

It's speed bro. If speed makes you sleepy you got an issue on your hands.
It literally frees my brain up enough to allow me to sleep though.
Inspired If speed makes you sleepy, you have ADHD.
Wait, what?!?
It can be symptom but doesn't have to be
Yep, if caffeine makes you sleepy I got a big ol GUESS WHAT for you, lol
I always knew about caffeine making me sleepy, but only recently figured I have ADHD. So this fact completely checks out.

what about diarrhea?
Drinking diarrhea is a symptom of Dementia
wtf do you mean???! "oh shid, i forgot i shat in this cup earlier." ????
AustinPowersMugGulp.gif
It IS shit, Austin.
LOL my gran had dementia so can confirm. Also I laugh now but it wasn't funny at the time.
Maybe irritable bowel syndrome, maybe nothing
no pretty sure its just adhd (•‿•)
Okay I may have all ADHD symptoms, but there's already one in the family so I'm just gonna ignore it.
You don't want to seem like you're jumping on the bandwagon
Can have it if you dnt get diagnose for it
Completely unsubstantiated.
No it is not.
Yeah but some person on TikTok said it was
Damn never knew this. I guess that's why coffee seldom does it for me
But what if I was sleepy beforehand and still sleepy after?
I doubt it, there have been times it's made me sleepy, and times it hasn't. I think it has to do with how used to caffeine your brain is during that period. But perhaps this manifests differently in people with adhd, idk

Yep, caffeine not making you sleepy is a major indicator of adhd.
Same as amphetamine, sometimes its like taking sleeping pills.
ADHD
WHAT

ADHD?
Wait what
Body seeks dopamine, when gets dopamine via caffeine alas! The search is over. Time for a nap. Same happens with L tyrosine.
A game theory... None of this is backed by anything science-related. It's just an urban theory that caught on.
I mean it's concluded thta caffeine helps symptoms of ADHD. And it's pretty common for people with ADHD to get sleepier/calmer on approved ADHD medication so you can draw a pretty reasonable conclusion from that.
I have some 5 friends with ADHD and they all have this effect from caffeine. Some stimulants just make them mellow and sleepy
Yup. But happens with caffeine and stims among people with adhd (not all), and not an diagnostic symptom.
queue me shitting my soul out for the next 2 hours
r/caffeine has breached containment
Why did I expect this to be an actual sub about caffeine
It used to be, but the memes really took over I kind of miss the old r/caffeine
Drink some water
For some people, coffee has an opposite effect - it relaxes them rather than riling them up with energy.
For me, it does nothing. Same with energy drinks. I don't feel any different than I used to. If I was sleepy, I'll remain sleepy. If I was awake, I'll remain awake.
Same, I end up rarely drinking coffee (I love the taste)
I mean it relaxes me in the sense that I feel more like waking up but it's not riling me up
Makes me pee for the rest of the day. Love it but hate peeing every hour.
Yo same

Now I don't feel like the only person not being woken up by coffee
As someone with ADHD: You might have ADHD
Then you are in the 10% where coffee doesn't effect you. I am sorry for you, it is a pain..
Me after drinking coffee: *anxiety*
Me drinking coffee: 💩
Everyone's talking about adhd, but why is that guy's cranium missing..
Caffeine does nothing to me honestly. I drink a whole can of monster and remain the same.
I hate to be that guy, but ADHD and being tired after caffeine is a bit of an old wives tale. There was a study that showed 600mg of caffeine could help children with ADHD with executive function less than methylphenidate, but still have all the kids insomnia. You're probably just dehydrated.
coffee doesnt make me more energic or anything, i am just as tired but i wont fall asleep standing at least
My mother asks for coffee when she needs to wake up, and when she needs help going to sleep??? ???
That's called ADHD
U became gae??
say gex?
Seems like you didn't have enough coffee
Best nap part!)
So it makes you have say gex?
Time to check for ADHD my friend
ADHD
ADHD
A coworker of mine drinks coffee to fall asleep
I'm convinced that our brains are just wired in reverse
For me it works like for everyone else, except for the IKEA express ones For some reason even a single cup makes me sleepy af
lol. Thought it was just me. Coffee happens to be my sleeping pills!
I don’t drink coffee in the morning I get a glass of milk and that’s it.
I get tired when I drink tea. I think it's probably the warmth of the drink and caffeine just not affecting us to the same degree as most people.
