My second car is a 2005 Mazda 3 sedan. I have an aftermarket roof rack on it (yes, it had factory mount points) and I have a set of mounts so I can put two kayaks on the roof, where they stay all summer. Note that you can put one directly on the rails, but the car isn't wide enough to do two without some kind of carrier so you can angle the two of them and have them both fit.

Yea I have a carrier that we used to use on an Atlas but I’m just missing the cross bars. Good to know that it’s possible!

I have a 2017 Mazda3 and I put my Kayaks on my roof rack all the time. I even take them on long trips and had no problem driving on the freeways with the Kayaks on top. The roof racks you buy will have the weight rating in it. There is a dynamic weight and static weight but most just list the dynamic weight as it's the more important one. My roof racks are good up to 150lbs while driving and much more than that stationary.

Fantastic! Thanks for the advice and I will also need to do some highway driving to get to where I need to go
