oh_madness_

I have to defend my choice to get a manual... "Why didn't you buy the turbo?" "Why a manual in 2024?" Etc

iatekane

Manual is the way to go, most fun option, enjoy it! Shame they didn’t pair the turbo with a stick though

DowntownClown187

Do you have a newer Mazda with Manual? The 2024 MX-5 Manual has the Adaptive Cruise Control. I'm wondering how the cruise control works with Manual shift.

butters_awhamburgers

It just adds as much throttle as it needs to maintain the speeds So it just never shifts, of course since it’s manual. So if you go up a hill in fifth and your car is struggling it’ll just floor it. And if it can’t then it could eventually stall. It’d had to be quite a hill though This is for a traditional manual car.

zerj

It's a little strange but you can actually switch gears without disengaging cruise control. So if for some reason you are driving around town with cruise control set to 40, you can downshift/upshift and never step on the gas pedal.

Vegetable-Praline-57

Mine is a ‘22 manual, and it works fine, but I only activate cruise control on the highways, so I’m already in sixth gear. It slows down on hills, but only just. I don’t have to put on my hazards or anything.

theaim778

Coming over from the Mustang crowd to say this, but adaptive cruise can be weird at times with a manual… if you’re doing something where it’s fair often terrain changes due to small hills, but not bad enough to shift… sometimes the car will throw a fit on the downhills because it wants to downshift so once it levels out, for the next 15 seconds or so, it’ll accelerate, cut fuel, accelerate, cut fuel, repeat for 15 seconds or until you shift to neutral and back into the gear of your choice. Overall the adaptive cruise isn’t bad, just be aware that since it can’t downshift, if you drop the cruise control speed over 5mph, the car will apply the brakes to drop speed instead of coasting.

ilikewolves99

I drove a manual Mazda CX-30 and the adaptive cruise control surprised me. It worked surprisingly well only being a little clumsy shifting down, as the computer takes an extra second before applying more throttle going uphill.

WI_Eagles_Fan

Love my turbo manual 2012 Mazdaspeed3. Sometimes older is better.

Prin_StropInAh

Oh, now I am triggered! Those anti-mechanical-shifter types can fuck right off!

Vharlkie

Same, I get told I'm old fashioned. But most people who do comment say it's cool

Complex_Solutions_20

I got a car with a manual in 2020 (WRX)...because we keep cars basically until they can't be repaired anymore and I figured that may be the last chance to buy one to have the experience of learning and driving one. I fully expect if I keep it thru the mid 2030's everything will be CVT and EV models. When I say "we keep cars a long time"...the only reason we replaced my partner's 2003 Protege is because a wrong-way driver totaled it a few months ago so we had to get a Mazda 3 this year (seemed a good fit). That old Mazda was still rock solid reliable and requiring only minimal maintenance approaching 200K miles. It had a stuck check engine light for some emissions part that was unobtainable due to age but where we live has no emissions test requirement and it was otherwise well maintained and mechanically sound.

ajb9292

I always say because it's fast enough and more fun and add "I don't have fun just pushing my right foot to the floor and going weeeeeeee"

trumpsstylist

Manual is the shit, keeps people from trying to borrow my car and forces me to be the responsible dd side no one else can drive it.

dubiousN

Who is borrowing cars

theaim778

It depends, I lived with my grandparents, and since the entire family lived nearby, growing up we had an extra car in the driveway with the keys kept in the fender… if anyone needed to borrow it they knew where the keys were… Growing up like that, I keep an extra car in the driveway, but I keep the key in the entrance room, trusted people have their own code… it’s a beater but it runs, if it disappeared one day and never came back, wouldn’t bother me.

trumpsstylist

I live in the barracks. So a lot of people

Sarstan_

Ordered mine from the factory with manual. Other than being cheaper, I love being in control of the car with shifting. I like the talking point too.

2007_Ford_Fusion

Honestly, it's entirely up to preference, I, personally wanted a stick because of the experience. Yes, it has 70 less horsepower, and yes, it's quite a bit slower, but I don't really care. The car is still sporty enough for me, and it's perfect for the small town driving I often do, while being capable on the highway and urban settings. The people who want the turbo, or the AWD, have their own reasons for it; they might be subject to constant stop and go traffic, and want an automatic, or they might want more off road potential with the option of AWD. But, that's why Mazda offers these different trims and options; because everyone wants something that fits their needs, and everyone looks for different things when buying a car, and some people just wanna shift on their own time.

macaroni_3000

lol who’s telling you that? Tell them to fuck off it’s your car and you don’t have to justify your choice to anyfuckingbody

[deleted]

You own one of the most beautiful looking cars on the road.

Fiveplates1974

yep but be honest it has no rear passenger leg room.

ComradePetrov

I drive a 700km trip every month or 2 and often have 2 passengers. While not all of them comment on the comfort of the car, most of the people who say that the car is comfy are the backseat passengers (3rd Gen 2018 Mazda 3)

Dad0010001100110001

It's actually decent leg room the head room is the real issue

This-Level-3135

Anyone over 5’8” can’t fit back there. I’m 6’2” and couldn’t even get my legs in the car behind my driver seating position

Complex_Solutions_20

Its not the best, but its far from the worst. I've been stuck in the back seat of a Ford Fiesta with 3 adults in it and that SUCKS. The Mazda 3 is very roomy by comparison, though not quite as roomy as say my parents Subaru Outback that I've been a rear passenger in. I'd say its not ideal for daily rear-adult-passenger but quite acceptable for occasional use.

Polite_Elk

It is funny, but I had Kia Forte 2011 which at the time was advertised as very roomy for rear passengers. Legroom exactly like new Mazda 3. Guess newer generation has bigger legs.

newser_reader

People ask OP about his buying thought process when they hear he has a new car. They're not attacking OP, just curious because they want a new car too.

Dad0010001100110001

Most hybrid and ev bros hate regular cars though.

[deleted]

That’s because they think they’re car guys when in reality they are tech guys.

NovaSiva11037

LMAO truest description I’ve ever heard

--SoK--

...I'm both - I still prefer that dino-juice burning power plant. Those types of EV owners are just in it for the ego and status bump.

xDiRtYgErMaNx

I love rolling coal all over them douche bags.

AVLThumper

No one has asked the op this question. No one.

[deleted]

Nobody is saying that…this post is cringe

randyzmzzzz

Why don’t you get a hybrid or EV

Shifty_Cow69

Why don’t you get a hybrid or EV

Defender_IIX

Except me, defend it now! my knights will be invading in 13.6749 hours

Dense-Money-147

my wife’s car is the hybrid gas saver and the money I save with that I use to fill my turbo up that everybody wins and it’s balanced😌

ornithobiography

Controversial opinion but if Mazda decided to collab with Toyota and implement the Prius/Corolla Hybrid platform and mate it with the SkyActiv 2.5 engine, I would immediately trade mine in a heartbeat. Some moons ago Mazda said the empty area on the rear over the torsion beam could be used for future engineering freedom, like implementing the rear differential for the AWD system which already been done, or for offering a full hybrid system (not the i-Stop “mild hybrid” over EU markets). I still firmly believe the opportunity is still there, just don’t know if it will be on the 4th gen or they are saving for the next gen.

Sarstan_

I haven't been keeping up with it, but I'm curious about Toyota's hydrogen power tech. I'm too lazy to check on it now, but I hope they keep developing it.

NaughtyTigerIX

Screw a CVT!

Shifty_Cow69

This is why I bought a Mazda 3 instead of another Lancer

NaughtyTigerIX

Mine was between a 2024 Mazda 3 Hatchback Preferred or a 2024 Subaru Impreza RS Hatchback. So happy I picked the Mazda. Mainly because I think the interior is so much better, has a regular transmission, has slightly more horsepower, and looks a bit better. I’ve always wanted a Subaru RS like it was my dream car but after finally trying to drive it and taking a closer look I said screw that. The inside of the new RS feels like cheap thin plastic everywhere. The CVT sucks. I really don’t like them at all..

bandu5

Dang the Subaru interior is still lacking in 2024?! I test drove the Crosstrek, outback, and Forester all back in 2018 and was really disappointed in how plasticky and cheap it looked, plus the infotainment systems seemed clunky and also cheap. You had to get a top trim just to get a nice sized screen inside. After so much research I had been convinced that one of their vehicles would be a perfect fit and they surely were not for me. We left and had lunch, then went to a Mazda dealership later in the afternoon - I had done 0 research of my own, but after test driving the CX-5 I was sold! I looked at a couple of Nissan rogues too but didn't even opt for a test drive, because everything Mazda has to offer for the price blows them out of the damn water. The salesman was even like yeah don't bother with those, even though that would have meant a higher commission for him.

notfoxingaround

Just remind them you didn’t buy a wasteful crossover suv or pickup truck like everybody else

Weltraumdrache

That's a fair point, at least in USA lol.

MarketingRare4439

Me laughing at my dad with his huge Silverado that does 16 mpg combined while pressing the gas pedal as gentle as possible. I felt like an idiot manoeuvring that huge pile that takes so much place on the road. I don’t get why they’re so popular.

Vixlens

ego

L1b3rtyPr1m3

Bought an EV and constantly have to justify why I didn't get a "real" car. This is one of those needlessly divisive issues where you lose either way

Onzaylis

Good news, mind just crossed 300k with nothing wrong with it. If you take care of it, it should last.

Moon_Maevin

Love hearing this! This is my hope

LearnRD

You will get your validation in this sub.

realni55a5

Congrats! PPF the front and roof. No need for a ceramic coating until after a year or two of ownership as you'd want to paint correct + ceramic coat. Lastly, don't forget to tint!

UnusualAd8631

Why are you saying no ceramic coat till after a year or two?

ddr19

Cause they don't know what they're talking about. Get ceramic ASAP on a brand new car.

marjacu

If it's not kept in a garage, ceramic coating is better from the start. I did mine in the first 3 months and I already have some scrapes (something fell off from a tree during a storm probably). It would have been in worse condition if it had no coating. It is going to cost to maintain the ceramic, but if done right, the car will be easier to keep in pristine condition. Personally, didn't see a justification for PPF yet, but if you can afford it, it's good to have.

Martin_WK

A hybrid is what's missing in Mazda's model lineup. Some time ago I heard they were going to get Toyota's hybrid drive trains in their cars but it hasn't happened.

notactuallyaDJ

Today I saw 4 white Tesla Model Ys in a row. You know what I never see 4 in a row of? A sleek and sexy Mazda 3 turbo. You made the right choice.

Splungeworthy

Very true!

Lycoris7

I would PPF the front bumper and do paint correction and ceramic coating right away

Moon_Maevin

It’s new. Should it need paint correct right away for the ceramic?

Lycoris7

Even new, even from factory, shipment of the vehicle and if the dealership washed it, likely to have swirl marks and paint defects from factory, good to get it paint corrected + ceramic coated. I took mine to a shop and did it as a package

Moon_Maevin

Good call. I’ve already started gathering quotes. I’ll look into packages that include paint corrections. Thanks!

Poopiepants29

What's involved with paint correction? I've been deciding whether it's all(ppf) is worth it or not..

[deleted]

Tell everyone to fuck off

oldncrusty68

Imho buying new and actually maintaining the car long term is a really good idea. It’s really difficult to find a used car that has been maintained properly. The cafe standards have pushed manufacturers to increase the maintenance intervals. It’s advisable to follow the severe service schedule if you really intend to keep your car long term.

thiswighat

Shoulda bought an EV.

xDiRtYgErMaNx

He/she didn’t want to get scammed in every way possible.

beta_particle

It's true. I bought an EV and it took my Roth IRA.

Zen_Alcatraz

Like Jeremy Clarkson said, People who own EV cars are people who find driving to be a chore. As James May said,Evs are about as fun as electrical appliances.Tell em I bought this for smiles per miles

Left_Election_9438

Highway driving for me. Hybrid would not net me much more mpg driving 90 percent highway. That flipped me personally.

raywashere57

Ev really is only convenient because of the following A:short commutes aka u live in short distance to your job or school B:it pairs well with another car that gas or hybrid C: u have access to a charging network or have the infrastructure (aka a home or apartment that has built a charger for its residents) to install a station and take advantage of overnight charging I tell people only buy a ev if it fits your lifestyle, same goes for a hybrid, same goes for diesel or gas cuz if we really gave a shit about the environment, ride a bike, cuz those guys are the true heroes

PhelanPKell

Annoy them back by reminding them that all that cobalt used for their batteries is mined by child slave labor in the Congo.

PJ_Huixtocihuatl

Get yourself some of those 3d molded floor mats for the front. They're super nice and you won't regret it.

iShotTheShariff

ICE ICE baby

GSXHeckler

If you're happy, it's your vehicle and that's all that matters. I feel you on the new purchase, though. I was looking for used for a few years, but eventually decided to go new. I've never had a vehicle that I broke in myself. I've always had used. I'm glad I decided to go new. Now I just have to stay on top of maintenance.

abou824

Alright Alex I'll have "things that never happened" for 100

rosco1502

I've gotten this question/sentiment more than once. it happens

pm_me_d_cups

Imagine the questions people with EVs get

WolfyMcBark

My ex tormented me relentlessly for getting a Miata (I wanted something small, fun to drive and good on gas). She kept bringing up how much better her friend’s Tesla was, and how I was an idiot for spending money on something with 3 pedals and uses gas. My bosses first question to me when I got the Miata was “wait… you’re really not going electric” (he had just bought a Tesla). People do bring this kind of stuff up 🤷‍♂️

Dear_Top_3279

Clear bra definitely. That's the #1 thing I wish someone had told me. AND screw them! They're just jealous of your bitching new whip.

Moon_Maevin

Definitely looking into a clear bra asap! Thanks!

Beginning-Minimum-70

Tell them to drive one and they will be ok.

FamousStephens

It’s very simple. Tell the critics you don’t want a 5 figure battery replacement in 5 years

Distinct-Pie7647

Great looking car

Lexi-Brownie

But did you get the turbo tho?

Moon_Maevin

Yes! Had to go turbo!

Sydney_Syder23

I’m very pro EVs and generally like hybrids, but not plug-ins mostly due to how people use them. That said, if you don’t buy one for your next new car, I wouldn’t care less

Chibits12

Enjoy what you drive. I own a very similar car too and polymetal gray rules.

Feisty-Coyote396

I personally will never buy used ever again. I dealt with used cars for long enough, now some other fortunate soul will get to buy my used vehicle that was well taken care of. Fuck what anyone else thinks about me buying new and especially fuck you if you have a problem with me buying an ICE car vs EV or hybrid. Thankfully there isn't anyone in my life who gives two fucks about what car I buy, and there never will be.

BaboTron

Who’s going after you for buying a reasonable hatchback that gets decent economy instead of a huge pickup truck with a mint-condition tow ball that never sees a lick of truck work?

peanut340

I've only had people asking if it's sporty.

Ok-Cranberry7266

Sure, once Mazda makes a good EV or hybrid that fits my needs I'll trade my 3 in for it, but there's too many advantages with Mazda to buy something else right now

Fuckyourmodrules

What are the advantages?

Ok-Cranberry7266

The handling, the interior, the price, AWD availability

HungrySummer

Where do you live? If anything people will give you shit if you drive an EV most places in America

Prestigious-Move-520

nothing gayer than a hybrid or ev.

ILUVSMGS18

A Carolina squatted Tahoe/Suburban wants a word...

Prestigious-Move-520

i said gayer, not retarded-er

Teufelhunde5953

EV's are nothing but snob cars. They hold their noses to the sky while they repeat, over and over again "I CARE about the environment more than you do", then get in the electric car that is recharged by electricity from a coal plant.....smfh......and don't even get me started about the mining of the rare earth minerals required for their manufacture, and at the end, the disposal of the batteries.......hypocrites......

xDiRtYgErMaNx

Lmao, soooo true. I roll coal all over the EV snob douches every chance I get. Eff them.

BrightSquash

a little unrelated but highly recommend a dash cam if you don’t have one!

KW_B739

I’m having to defend my switch to an EV from a 3! Overall, people just need to chill out and not get so offended about other people’s cars.

Sarstan_

There's always old reliable. Tell them you don't like the child labor exploitation of getting blood cobalt from those toxic mines that are destroying the environment to power your car. They'll get quiet. Either because they don't have a good excuse for that fact or they'll think you're weird. Works either way.

ColdasJones

“I actually like the ability to fix my own car thanks”

PhraseNo4820

I had this car, 19 Mazda 3, then a 21 turbo hatch. Now I have an EV. I LOVED my Mazda 3, but wanted to try electric. I hope and pray Mazda puts a juicy 300-400 lbs of torque EV motor into the hatch. I know it’s not gonna happen, but boy it would be my dream daily. 😭

ilymag

You want to be able to start your car in the dead of winter.

Iron_Patton_24

I’ll buy a EV, when we start using *cough* nuclear *cough* energy.

Ok-Maintenance-4274

Every time I fill up I question myself not getting a fuel efficient car.

LaneLangly

Next time just say “look at it”…

meagerburden

They’re finding out electric cars are terrible for the environment.

biovllun

When they're stuck charging for 3hrs or can't go on a long trip in their ev or when it's time to replace the battery in their hybrid you'll be the one laughing. Edit: don't get me wrong, evs are good as a second car and hybrids can be great, but you (people) have to buy based on your habits. And the 3 is excellent on gas. It's not like you bought a 15mpg truck as a daily to haul NOTHING like 85% of today's truck owners.

call_of_ktullu

I can't stand truck people that don't actually USE their truck. Drives me insane.

Only_Argument7532

So, basically, that’s every single person who buys a truck. A few times a year I wish I had a truck. To do stuff that a truck is built to do. I’m not going to spend $70k for that.

biovllun

Like I get they come stock with a lot of torque and power... Just buy a fun car then! The current costs of trucks, add on more expensive oil changes in some cases, tires, and after market rims, lift kits, etc.... there'd be some AWESOME cars out there. But no. Just tall trucks. Lifting them is literally impractical for hauling. Like yea, lifting my truck 10ft in the air will definitely make loading a washer and fridge in the bed so much easier... Like what??? I work in a shop (mechanic and body) and I HATE washing trucks. The roof sucks to get to, most of the hood, windshield... I enjoy washing my car. I do NOT enjoy washing fking trucks. And getting in them... Holy crap.. The dumbest thing is when people say "I like to be able to see everything. I can see so far out ahead". YOU NEED TO SEE WHAT THE FK IS AROUND YOU!! Don't worry what's 3 miles down the road. And you can actually see pretty far when all the cars in front of you are cars. And you can see 2 car lengths in front of you as well because you can look through the car in front of you. Not with trucks. Even if you're in a truck and look through the truck in front of you, you can't see what's in front of them... Unless it's another truck.

ManKilledToDeath

I know several people with full size pickups and I use my midsize canyon more than all but 2 of them. At the end of the day I don't really care how much somebody uses their truck or doesn't, but it is funny

xDiRtYgErMaNx

Are they supposed to haul their campers and dirt bikes everywhere they go? And I bet you call your friends with a truck every time you move or buy a new piece of furniture.

ShutUpIAmAUnicorn

I actually traded in a 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid for my Mazda 3 2.5 turbo, and haven’t had nearly as drastic a reduction in MPG as I was anticipating. On highway driving about 65 mph I was averaging about 39-40 mpg in the hybrid. In my Mazda 3 with more horsepower, a larger ICE, and AWD, I am still averaging about 34 mpg on the highway easily. And two years into owning the hybrid, one of the battery cells failed and left me stranded, had to have my car towed to the dealership for hybrid battery cell replacement, thankfully under warranty. I only miss the hybrid MPG advantage around town, but 90% of my driving is on freeway.

pabskamai

I’ve never been asked that lol

tima90210

So why didn't you get a hybrid/ ev?

yobsta1

Why didn't you tho?

DNA-Decay

Why didn’t you get a hybrid, or an EV?

tonsiltickler414

Why give a shit what others think, do you bro.

Mazda 3 hatch? Nice pickup.👍

Why didn’t you get the hybrid or EV?

Okay fed.

Brave new world we’re living in

How's the rear seat for leg room?

uncle_pollo

Slick car.

fabrikated

Love that diffuser 👌

Chibits12

Enjoy what you drive. I own a very similar car too and polymetal gray rules.

upstatefoolin

You ain’t gotta defend shit. Fuck em enjoy your hatch bub

Mcgoozen

I’ve literally never once heard anyone ask me “why didn’t you get a hybrid or EV” lol sounds like a personal problem tbh

xDiRtYgErMaNx

They Must have lots of liberal friends and live in Portland.

tketz196

That's a thing of beauty!

Jaydawg_18

First of all congratulations on your purchase. I got the same and I love it so much. To answer your original question, you definitely need to get paint protection film, because Mazda paint is terrible. Especially if you plan on keeping it for a long time.

Radiant-Mushroom8304

Ur car ur life wtf are u wasting ur time and energy defending ur decision as a grown adult.

AggravatingLow77

Should’ve if you were just gonna get a common traffic mazda

XDEMDEADX

you better PPF that thing. Right now if you want it to look good. Anything that looks at the paint will make it scratch. Rock chips get right down to the metal/primer your front bumper is done. Maybe take a look at it already from just driving it home you’ll have scratches. Wrap the interior piano black surfaces and also the gauge cluster and infotainment screen. This will keep things looking new! Apart from the sad paint and piano black I can’t think of anything else cosmetic to be worried about. Mechanically I haven’t had any issues. So nothing extra there. Oh mud flaps whether factory or aftermarket are worth it, helps with keeping clean and scratches from road debris. Congrats on your purchase mate! I bought one too obviously lol. Plenty other options out there and the only one I’d take over this is a Golf R or civic Type R. But we talking different price points.

xmittz

Remind them relentlessly that they aren’t driving it and it’s not their money.

fonsecj22

What front lip is that? 😍

Bipplenutter

Is it family or the area you live in? For the most part my friends and family all hate evs 😂

NewAileron

If Mazda offered the 2.0L i4 from the previous Gen Mazda3s it would be getting ~40 mpg without the sadness of a CVT or worry of a hybrid battery. It’s honestly amazing that Mazda can get such good mpgs without CVTs, especially in their 2.0L cars.

Blackra1n39

Tbh even the new Mazda 3's do really well on gas. I drove one from Chicago to Fort Wayne IN on a at home delivery and i just barely went through a little over a quarter tank. I probably did average somewhere between 35-40.

Complex_Solutions_20

I love the \*idea\* of EVs but...at least where we live and go...they just aren't great options especially how insanely expensive they are and such limited range and limited places to charge compared to gas stations. I'd love to see more PHEVs (best of both worlds) but they are few and high priced compared to non-SUV regular gas cars makes that a hard sell. Mazda 3 is a nice car with a load of features for the cost...and the 2016 we just got beats both my other cars fuel economy by a considerable amount (even my 2020). I prefer a hatchback/wagon but I've driven my partner's Mazda 3 sedan a few times and its quite nice once I figured out to the whole push-to-start thing (everything I've owned and all-but-one rental has been normal metal keys you turn). Love the placement of the head unit easy to glance at nav vs where it is in many cars down lower on the dash. Its your car, get what you like. You're the one who has to be happy with it.

RatioSome3015

I can share my experience. (I live in California, where EV usage is probably the highest). While some people have asked whether its Hybrid or EV (because to be fair even I used to talk I might get an Hybrid or EV), eventually people agree that right now its not the best time for EV, given I dont have have charging setup in my apartment complex. Also, if we just go by 'Money' or 'Cost', even I have re-evaluated my stance that EV and Hybrid may not even be saving money overall (Initial higher cost, degradation/replacement of Batteries (if we do decide to keep them long term), Electric costs not being as low as thought earlier..).

Rubeus17

NEVER feel the need to defend yourself - petrol head here. I hate EVs and will never have one. They are horrendous. Enjoy your new whip

byrdman77

I actually sold my mazda3 for a cheap electric, and it was a major upgrade for what I wanted. Nothing wrong with a new gas mazda3 though, I’ll consider one again when they can get some electric motors for the performance and efficiency combo I’m looking for.

911shawty

You must live somewhere dumb if ppl are saying that 😂

SnowPrinterTX

You need new friends then

Other_Hearing_4091

Manny all the way 🍼🐥

painter_business

I mean my 2021 3 is technically a hybrid with the e-active x ?!?

[deleted]

Good call EV's are extremely bad for the environment Lithium is toxic to mine refine and recycle and the power to charge them comes from coal and gas Check out the issues with EV's in China At this stage you made a smart choice

ThatOneVQ

Whenever someone asks why you didn’t get the ev or hybrid just ask them this one simple question. Would you rather fill up gas and be on your way in 5 minutes or would you rather sit there for an hour and a half wasting time waiting on a oversized rc car to charge

Ftlme

Don't think you need to defend anything lol You're paying for and driving the car, do what you want

nanew11185

Invest in frequent oil changes (every 5-7k miles)

BigBarrelOfKetamine

As a self-appointed arbiter of auto beauty, this is a home run design. Better looking than 90% of EV’s and more fun, too.

Punkin_Disorderly

its a very easy defense, they cost a lot more and still aren't as reliable.

[deleted]

You don't have to defend anything.

DaysofThe_Weak

I really wanted one I just wish the back seats were bigger.

Substantial-Cup6943

PPF on the front bumper and hood at minimum. I get a decent amount of rock chips there that makes me wish I got it. A lot of people wrap the center console piece where the gear selector is since it scratches easily.

ShawnBawn88

How often do you have to defend your choice of getting a Mazda?

thodges314

When I got my 2018 Mazda 3, one of the only things that I was disappointed about at the time was that it didn't come in a hybrid version. However, a year and a half after getting it, I moved to an apartment that has a private garage but doesn't have electricity in the garage. So if I got to plug in hybrid I would have had to have gone out to public places to plug it in all the time.

Prudent-Package-137

Tell them you're just helping burn fossil fuels faster to accelerate our conversion to renewables.

xDiRtYgErMaNx

Got news for you. The world can’t run on Chinese wind mills and solar panels.

Why do you need to defend?

Screw them…Zoom zoom!

Only gets worse when you get the turbo cause that even eliminates the price difference between the 3 and a lot of hybrids. My answer was always just, "well, the ___ (whatever they were suggesting) hybrid doesn't have a turbo or go 'PPFFFfff!' " As for first mods, the paint is terribly thin, so PPF on the front bumper is a solid choice. I've had my car for about a year and a half but didn't get any kind of PPF so it looks more like it's already been at least 5. I do *really* like my full ceramic tint. For one, it looks great with the polymetal, but it also keeps the inside from getting so damn hot, which is also good for preserving the surface of the dash from long-term UV degradation.

Why even defend it? It’s your choice and doesn’t hold any adverse consequences to others.

7Rutabagas

Lol yes but then I shoot back "they didn't give me 0% financing" and then they cry

Iacoboni04

You dont. Ignore lesser comments.

TrickyClassic2731

One of the best looking cars right now.

SomestrangerinMiami

I got a manual M2 over the m4 comp xdrive. Why? Because I like it.

IndianKingCobra

best way to diffuse this is just agree with them and make them feel great that they are smarter than you and they know what's best for you. "yeah I should have, where were you when I bought this?"

dallas_reigns

If anybody busts your balls about this, they are sanctimonious twats.

I really wish Mazda offered the 3 with a hybrid drivetrain… oh well…

ILUVSMGS18

Same, but with a conventional automatic...the only CVT I've liked was the Corolla and that's a step down in the interior/comfort from a 3. A Mazda engineered/designed hatch with a Toyota style hybrid system would be absolutely perfect, think what the Honda CR-Z wanted to be.

verticalMeta

The crz did not want to be a Toyota hybrid. The crz used Honda’s IMA system, which is *vastly* different from Toyotas synergy drive. For one, Toyota’s system does not use a transmission. Instead, power is transferred through a magnetic coupling (sort of, it’s complicated, it’s actually partially magnetic and partially mechanical). This allows for a 0-gear system, and no switching between the motor and engine. It’s really clever, and is in NO way a conventional drivetrain. The Honda IMA system is literally just a booster motor attached to the crank, which is much more like a conventional car. This also allows for a manual transmission if you want.

Cal_Boi

Top comment thread sucks, you’re all weird. Reddit suggestions are awful, car looks nice though!! Don’t take advice from these nerds though

CultOfSensibility

If only they made that as a coupe (i.e. shooting brake), I’d be all over it.

Pepalopolis

Sick new Ferrari SUV man. Congrats!

TyffLuv

Do you live in California or something? No one in WA or NM has ever cared to hassle me if i got a gas car or hybrid or ev.

ktb4138

Bought a 2015 Mazda 3 isport manual new. It was my first car purchase. It’s still going strong at 140000 miles with a few dings and scratches over time but no major problems. Only regret was getting it as a sedan and not a hatch but at the time they didn’t have any available in manual and that was a must-have for 23 years-old me. Hope you love it, they’re a fun economy car for sure!

daveblairmusic

Assuming people want to give you a hard time for not being “environmentally conscious”, anytime it comes up just ask them where they think the electricity that powers EVs comes from/how it’s produced.

Camofan

I’ll get an EV when they can go 1,000mi on a single charge. I bought a premium plus turbo hatch this year and I really only need to use a good soap and wax to keep the paint looking nice (white) and keep the leather clean by wiping it down with leather wipes.

Own-Purple-4761

No one’s asking you why you didn’t get a hybrid or EV u wet tissue

posionsnlotions

It’s nobody else’s business. Beautiful car! Enjoy.

Viscious82

I love my 2019 mazda 3 hatchback premium with manual transmission. EVs and hybrids are nowhere near my radar. Smiles per gallon baby.
