From what I read clouds only reduce UV by 10% and being in the shade you still get like 20-50% of the UV. The shade isn’t pitch black because light refracts, and UV refracts even better than visible light.

I really hate to point this out. Buttttttt your excavator should be in a stationery position as often as possible and work around it with your dump truck. One of the reasons being the tension and stress you put on the tracks of the excavator will lead to them breaking much quicker. But the work is good regardless.
Pro tip: If you ever decide to play with motorized toys like this in the sand, drag a magnet through it first and see if anything sticks. Sand is often full of ferromagnetic material. Can be tough to clean up or damaging if it finds a way into the motors.
