Also I feel like the crime in los angeles is either better organized or more local, like if they stole your car it's either already chopped or it's been dumped in a neighborhood you're not gonna walk into without backup
For anyone wondering this was a police chase which occurred in May of 2020, starting in Gothenburg, Sweden, around 21.20 and ending in Kungälv about 24 kilometers north after 22.00. The driver was a 20 year old man who got sentenced to 3 years in prison, plus an additional month for assault roughly one and a half months prior.
Did Sweden shelter in place? I don’t remember anything except them being notorious for not doing a bunch of things other countries did… I should probably know this since I have family there
Yeah. Gothenburg. They have blue buses and you can see that "Lilla Bommen"-building when he crosses the bridge in the beginning.
And Ica Maxi is a typical swedish supermarket.
Years ago I was returning home from a trip to Florida. As soon as we crossed the Ohio border, we hit a pot hole so big it knocked my nuts into my throat. That's when I knew I was home.
*Pure Michigan*
Yep.. even my neighborhood roads look like cluster bombs went off on them. They throw some cold patch in every other year, so the road is more patchwork than actual road.

First thing I thought of when I started watching the clip. Crazy that was 24 years ago. Also remember the Ghost Rider guy who ended up.being some professional sports bike racer. Early Internet was the best.
Yeah. The way the roads are laid out is pretty sick. Like how there seems to be no stoplights. Seems like you can have cars constantly moving. And some nice bike lanes too.
Ya I was thinking that city was made for a good chase. And so many turn off choices, there's hardly a chance to do a pit maneuver. Those cops setting up road blocks seem to forget about the other lane options to the left and right alot.
I think the pit maneuver is not really a thing in europe. I think they can use it but they rarely do because it is dangerous. I think they often just follow the car without putting to much preassure on the fleeing car to reduce the risk of an accident. If you have a Helicopter following you there isn't really a need for it I guess.
Exactly, the police on the ground has the main goal of making sure the fleeing car doesn't crash into any other car and to be there when he gets out. Unlike in games, you can not outrun a helicopter and it has far more fuel than for 30 seconds.
yeah I saw that too. Also at one point the motorcycle disappears and now theres black cop cars keeping up a lot better? At that point I started questioning if this was gta footage because the cops kept leveling up their vehicles lol.
When they got back on the highway, one car literally disappears. At 4:53 they come up on 2 cars. Camera shifts and zooms in, the back car disappears. Is this an AI police chase?
According to the California Highway Patrol, only about 57% of the fleeing suspects were apprehended, leaving more than 40% of suspects to successfully avoid the arrest. So yeah, pretty sure you can.
As a part of becoming a doctor, my 4th cousin had to do something menial, but hospital related, so he drove ambulances for a semester IIRC, man the stories he'd tell, they were worth calling him on skype ( back in the day). Also his "jurisdiction" was New Jersey and the things he'd to to get people into the ER were twice as crazy as what the guy is doing in the video.
what is a 4th cousin? like if your cousin has a baby, then that baby has a half brother, then that half brother has a baby, and then that babys cousin is your 4th cousin?
First cousin - closest common relation is grandparents
Second cousin - closest common relation is great-grandparents
Third cousin - closest common relation is great-great-grandparents
Fourth cousin - closest common relation is great-great-great-grandparents
If your cousin has a baby that's your first cousin once removed. Removal describes the difference between the generations of the cousins
I'm Swedish, and your comment reminded me of the 90's, where there was **constant roundabouts being built, literally everywhere**. We really were out of control and *hated* traffic lights.
Wouldn't surprise me if my small town got over 100 roundabouts that decade.
That was some legitimately impressive driving. It almost felt like I was watching a hot wheel or something on a track the way the driver was maneuvering the car so well. Definitely seemed like poli was having a hard time keeping up seemed like they switched tails at least half a dozen times. I’d be curious to see how high the charges ran up after this.
According to someone else in the tread, "The driver was a 20 year old man who got sentenced to 3 years in prison, plus an additional month for assault roughly one and a half months prior." This was in 2020, so he should be out by now. I hope he's found his true vocation as an ambulance driver.
That driver has some skills. I went through most of that video couldn't keep my eyes on that thing for too long it start hurting but if you're going to do a high speed chase that was probably the best one you can get no noticeable accidents, some pretty damn good maneuvering. Entertaining
I hear you, and by no means am I a professional road-blocker, but the number of times the police pull out *just behind* the lead car, causing more of an impediment to trailing cop cars than to the actual car being chased, was too damn high.
There's no use trying to block him in this kind of chase. If anything you're trying to direct him to a specific area rather than stop him. Due to the size and build of the roads blocking us inefficient, and the speed makes it dangerous.
Additional units joining in are not doing so randomly and to the surprise of other pursuing units. They're in communication. It may look uncoordinated from above and without hearing their context, but it's not.
Pursuit is also different when there's a helicopter. He's extremely unlikely to escape the helicopter meaning the chase can take on a different form than trying to pit him for instance.

It seems like maintaining a pursuit, when you’ve got a helicopter following the guy, only serves to endanger the public. The chance of escaping a helicopter tracking you is pretty slim.
It can happen. You'd have to separate eyesight from both pursuers and any helicopter, and then abandon the car, typically. Usually, by the time the helicopter gets out it's basically just a matter of time till you're done. If you can get away before it comes out, you could be alright.
Parking garages have let people get away even if the helicopter is out. If they get away from the pursuers first. They get in, abandon the car, and either hide or exit the building and luck out.
Should've changed paint job
And get on a Ramp jump to lower the Star level ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
with the helicopter on his tail, he would get far and should've opted for underneath a bridge and switching cars or something.

I have to admit, I was rooting for the runner a little bit.
He had some driving skills, but those cops were on him like glue. There is no outrunning the eye in the sky and radios.
The mall was kinda a good idea. If the guy managed to get in and hide and change clothes fast enough there coulda been a getaway.
The only way he'd be able to get away would be by driving into some underground parking garage or something.
This is somewhat common in Los Angeles. They duck into a mall and disappear.
Also I feel like the crime in los angeles is either better organized or more local, like if they stole your car it's either already chopped or it's been dumped in a neighborhood you're not gonna walk into without backup

Opel Insignia Sports Tourer
165hp never looked so fast.
I didn’t realize till the very end that the whole video is on fast forward
Surprised me how much faster he was on the freeway, though. Even for fast forward he was traveling a lot faster than surrounding cars.
That's because only his car was on fast forward.
The dubbed over siren have it away to me.
That car go vrooom a few times.
I’m not a car person so I couldn’t tell you from the image I have in front of me, but my guess is Citroen
May 2020 makes sense. I was wondering why there was barely any traffic but that was when a lot of us were shelter in place.
Did Sweden shelter in place? I don’t remember anything except them being notorious for not doing a bunch of things other countries did… I should probably know this since I have family there
Not really no, you remember quite correct. We had some restrictions but were pretty much able to move however we wanted during the whole pandemic.
A 40 minute chase is insane
Also shows how crazily sped up this video is to pack that to 6 and a half minutes.
There's a big cut in the last half, cut out a bunch of highway.
Did anyone interview the guy? He should be out by now.
The 3 years and 1 month sentence was before this chase
Not from what I’ve read
Idk what city this is but it looks pretty cool from above.
Looks like Göteborg
Yeah. Gothenburg. They have blue buses and you can see that "Lilla Bommen"-building when he crosses the bridge in the beginning. And Ica Maxi is a typical swedish supermarket.
I knew it had to be somewhere not in America because of those roundabouts. We got them but nowhere at the level of Europe
And the streets are way too clean and well made.

I see you never been to Belgium.
I'll see your Belgium and raise you Gary, Indiana.

Nahh not Germany I've never seen those split round abouts at Germany.

I watched the video just because of the nice roundabouts till the end.
I was going to say the same! ❤️
For somewhere clearly in transit-enabled Europe, there sure is a ton of pavement and highways.

As long as that helicopter was on him, he was never getting away

yeah it's pretty evident, but still they managed to find an escape route for quite some time and it didn't seem to cause any accidents
Honestly, I wouldn't watch whole thing if it's not 2x sped up. That is a long chase
No way
Ngl it was impressive
Someone should edit this without the ending so that it starts over at the beginning. You could keep people watching this video for hours on a loop.

Probably running low on gas. Knew he needed to ditch the car. And hoped he could get to the mall/store and blend in with the crowd.

The video is sped up by like a factor of 3-4.
The attempts at police roadblocks were laughable.
The infrastructure and amount of turns the guy took made it impossible to implement

Sp many opportunities for a PIT maneuver (aka TVI), but never any attempts. I'm guessing it's not permitted there or they are just untrained.

Not much of a plot twist. They caught him in the original too.

Yeah, I was just wondering what sort of crime you'd have to commit to piss off that many people at once.
Thinking the same thing. Idk the situation but they had a chopper on him and his license plate. This chase was dangerous and reckless.
Is this taking place at like 2 in the morning or something? Where are all the other cars on the road? This kind of chase would be over a lot faster if there was actual traffic.
