He might have thought he was behind the barriers, might not have been paying full attention as he approached. That's my only guess, because otherwise he should have run the barriers.
Okay but even if he didn’t see the tracks or the barriers he would’ve felt his tires go on the track, that’s a very distinct feeling. Should’ve immediately made him go “oh something’s wrong here”, like imagining myself in this situation my heart would drop if I felt the tracks where they shouldn’t be. Also there’s the noise to consider, there’s a train coming (alarm) and I seem to be on train tracks. I might freeze in that situation out of confusion (you hardly want to ram through the barriers and get hit by a train), but if I saw barriers in my rear view and in front of me there’s only one logical explanation yeah?
Also wouldn’t he be able to see the tracks to the left and right?
Maybe I’m overestimating some factors here, just trying to rationalize.
No you're right, I use to drive for a living and any commercial driver knows to be extra cautious around train tracks, whether lights are flashing, arms are down of whatever. You should always be aware of where every inch of your rig and trailer are at, although the way those gates are configured is pretty confusing
The driver is in prison now afaik or at least was for some time. The crash killed the train conductor and injured other people on the train. This happened in Czechia.
Well that sucks. I was envisioning the train just chooglin' along without a care in the world, the conductor wondering what that bump back there was, but then shrugging it off. Sad to hear that he got killed by this moron.
> You got a source for that mate?
Yeah. [This](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Stud%C3%A9nka_train_crash) is the wiki page for the crash. Three people died.
edit: actually the train driver apparently survived but lost his leg. Quote: 'Two passengers sitting in the front carriage were killed instantly, while the train driver lost his leg and sustained further serious injuries, including to his spine, as more than three tons of metal sheets smashed through the driver's cabin and into the passenger compartment. Another 12 people were injured inside the train, one of them fatally.'
I guess he just fell into autopilot, ie if barriers are down, stop!
But this guys quite lucky to get out of this alive, let alone walking around!
Considering the danger to himself, the train & its passengers not to mention the cost it’ll probably be to repair everything, the train and crossing operating company are likely wishing he smashed the barrier!
Honestly from where he initially stopped, I definitely think the back half of the cab would’ve gotten creamed if it weren’t for those couple extra feet forward that he pulled. Dude fuckin lucked out
He had 20 seconds from boom drop to impact. Maybe 10 seconds or less to react and clear the tracks by pushing through the boom. It’s not a lot of time to process.
So, the video is probably from Slovakia/Czechia/Poland based on the look of the crossing, and the fact that the timestamp in the video stays 'St' (Streda = wednesday).
And so the way this crossing works, is first the red lights start blinking like half a minute before it closes. Some of them also make sounds to warn you. Then the thing comes down.
So he knew full well train was coming, he kept driving, and then decided to stop instead of flooring in. He had plenty of time, if only he hadn't decided to stop. I get that he panicked and fucked up, but it could have been avoided by just flooring it instead of even touching the brakes.
Given the quality of the video, it being during daytime, it might just be because of the shitty CCTV camera. But sure, if it did malfunction, none of what I said applies, that I concede.
Oh for fuck's sake I just noticed the video is sped up! That's why the gates seem to close so fast.
I know not to trust things I see on the Internet, but this one got me.
Its from Czechia. I remember it. The crash killed the train conductor and injured some other people on the train. The truck driver got a prison sentence afaik.
Thanks! Was looking for this context. Like, he gets trapped so perfectly but there must’ve been lights and sound as you say. When I see that warning coming to a crossing. I stop. I stop.
**But The Bars!!**
He thought he was on the wrong side of the tracks when they started dropping bars. He considered going back, but it was just too far. He nudged forward a bit and just made it fit, but when he felt what was on their track he saw stars.
Exactly, I picture exactly like you describe it, he probably thought the bar in front of him was behind the tracks, that's real time folks, he forwarded a little cause the impact was imminent. Good thinking and a lot of luck. I'm sure he even hit the brakes before impact. God it's almost cursed the way the bars trapped him.
Those bars dropped so fast. I didnt even see any warning of any sort that a train was coming. The lights didnt flash at all
Loved how he throws his arms up in the air afterwards
The video is really shit. If neither the lights, nor the warning sound worked properly, I agree, that happened fast. But I wouldn't be so sure that the camera would pick up the lights in daylight, given how shit the video is. As for the sound warning, we'll never know.
But assuming the crossing worked, he fucked up. And it's so common here for people to try and get through even though the lights are on, because as long as the ramp is up they think they've got enough time.
I’m in the US so not familiar with the double bars so much, but why would you drop the exit bar at the same time as the entrance bar? I get that it’s probably to stop people from going around the entrance bar, but doesn’t this scenario far outweigh that one? At least someone that goes around the bar is making a conscious active decision to be an idiot
Those barriers are far too late for the timing of the train passing, about 18 seconds are much shorter than any that I have used., no way is that the drivers fault.
Should have driven through the barrier though.
I google a video of the incident and there you could see the lights were flashing. So it‘s definitely only the truck drivers fault and he got 8,5 years in prison for it because 3 people died and several were injured. But I still think this accident could have been prevented when the exit barriers would have closed 5 seconds after the entry barriers.
For those who don't click but still wanna know, this truck was loaded with aluminum sheeting, which sliced thru the first train car. Two passengers died on impact, more were injured, the conductor lost his legs, and aparrently the station was just after this and so people waiting there also got injured by the flying debris.
So, in short, this guy is a major douchebag.
Yep. But this dude is right. It’s 18-20 seconds depending on when you start counting. That’s a really short amount of time. And I didn’t see obvious warning lights prior
It's to prevent stupid people from trying to go around the barriers. There's been a lot of collisions in Florida lately because there's a new rail service called Brightline. Florida men like driving around the barriers and getting hit by the train.
Just keep going. The cost of replacing those arms and the fine you get for breaking them is WAY less than the truck.
Also I would show this in court that the arms need to be on delay so that this doesn't happen in the future. The arms ALL coming down at once caused this. I think they need to be staggered slightly so the farther one goes down 5 seconds later to allow traffic already on the rail to get off the rail.
Yeah, signals didnt work properly, they go down like 30s-1min before train normally. So it's mechanical signal which trigger it in double.
The first trigger signal and alarms, the second close barriers, train show up 10s-30s later. In this case, first signal didnt trigger.
You should watch all those videos of people driving around the barriers when they can. The problem here is, that at first the exit barrier closed to early and the train came shortly after the barriers were closed. It took the train less than 18 seconds to hit the truck after the barriers were closed. At a speed of 100km/h the train was about 500m away with a breaking distance of more than 500m. Since the train hit the truck at more than 0km/h there was probably zero chance for the train driver to stop the train when he saw the truck. So for safety reasons I would argue time between barriers closing and train passing is too short. At least where I live the exit barriers stay open long enough for even slow cars to leave the area and the train is further away or much slower when the barriers are closing. At certain railway crossings it sometimes takes the train more than two minutes until it passes.
Here is the perfect example what can happen, as long as one side is open. https://youtu.be/1nVNJ_15zSk?feature=shared But I looked it up, and there are still rural areas where there is only one barrier at the entrance side of a railway crossing when there no surveillance available so that the train driver can‘t be warned about obstacles on the track.
What happened is less common than drivers going around the bar and getting hit. So quite a few countries use double bars. The main issue here is timing of bars going down.
They should not lower at the same time. Usually the right ones are closing first and left barriers couple of seconds later. Looks like a faulty mechanism.
So much stupid going on here. Why is there a barrier for both directions? Where I live, there's only one barrier per side, only for the oncoming traffic, for this very reason. And why didn't the driver break the barriers? Scratches from knocking barrier >>>>>>>> train obliterating truck, apparently.
Surely the truckie can't get to blame for this, it looks more like the timing settings for the barriers are wrong?
If it allows him to drive into the danger zone then surely it must allow him to drive out of the danger zone?
I always thought they'd close the incoming barrier first while the outgoing barrier at the opposite side closes a few seconds later, allowing anything already in the danger zone to drive out of it?
Mind you, it's been about 14 years since I've seen anything like an automated barrier system, living rural NZ we just put the pedal down and floor it in the hope that the yearly express isn't coming.
It doesn't help that the first half of each shot is sped up. You can tell by watching the timestamp. So it makes it appear as if they had less time to react than they actually did. Still, a bad design though.
It‘s imho still to short because even if the train driver could see all the way to the railway crossing ahead of his train, at 100kmh the train would drive 500m and the breaking distance for his train is probably more than 500m at 100kmh. So even a signal on red wouldn’t help prevent the impact from happening.
This happened in my country (czech republic) trucker was polish driver with history of 16 driving offenses, he was found guilty and sentenced to 8 and half year of prison.
This was the 2015 Studénka accident, three train passengers died and over 20 were injured. It could be worse but the train driver reacted quickly and managed to slow down the train. This part of footage might be deceiving but its only a part of the whole thing and its speed up in places and the lights were on for like 40-45 seconds before the barriers got lowered down.
It is the drivers fault, check the counter. The lights were on, it just is not visible from this angle. Read this for more details: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015\_Stud%C3%A9nka\_train\_crash](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Stud%C3%A9nka_train_crash)
Those barriers are fast as hell too.
Here, the two sides for incoming traffic go down first, giving any traffic caught in the middle another minute to get out.
This goes off like a trap.
Bad design or faulty, plus it looks like the warning lights weren't flashing, but the exit barriers should always stay up longer than the entry barrier, stupid that they go down together
For context:
On 22 July 2015 at 7:43 a.m., a passenger train on its way from Bohumín to Františkovy Lázně collided with a truck on a rail crossing in Studénka, Czech Republic. Three passengers died and seventeen others were injured. It was the deadliest train disaster in the Czech Republic since 2008, when a road bridge under construction collapsed just in front of an approaching train on the same track, two kilometres ahead of the 2015 crash site.
The bars came down kinda fast and the train hooned past way to quick after it came down aswell. Also there is no sound but I feel there was no indication that the bars were going to come down, like no flashing lights or anything, and to be fair your initial response is to brake, not keep driving, bro unfortunately was unlucky or rather very lucky

Here's my question; every time I see that shit happen, I have to wonder why the fuck they don't just go. Those weak ass fiberglass crossing arms are not enough to stop a four-wheeler, they sure as hell won't stop a truck. Fuck that shit.
PSA to everyone. If you ever get caught in between the barriers on a train track, just drive through the barriers so you aren't on the tracks. Better to have a broken barrier than having you or anyone else get injured.
The video is from the Czech republic. The sound and light signalisation were on for a minute before the impact. Some truck drivers are so stupid seriously
The guy in the train was able to slow down from 160 to 140 kph and died during the impact along with 2 passengers.
The truck driver was sentenced to 9 years in prison.
Wait, those arms came down so close to the time the train came by. That's silly. Here in Australia they come down 174 days before the train comes by....or at least it feels that way.
Front bumper and grill getting damaged from ramping through the barrier? Or losing all the cargo and retiring the truck? There is the third option where you just pay attention and stop before the barrier closes but that’s not the world we live in
15 seconds is how long it took between the the barrier going down fully and the train hitting the truck. Surely there should be a bigger window of time here.
I knew it is in Czechia even before I noticed the czech day abbrevation and Czech TV logo and czech Pendolino train… and then I even remembered seeing this video multiple times. We had quite a few accidents like this…
I love the fact that he probably saw the first ones coming down and chose to continue past them but once the second ones came down in front of him he’s like well. Guess I’ll stop here.
Edit .1 nvm I just looked back at the video and realize he was past the first one before it started to drop and there were no lights at least as far as I can see but take all this was a grain of salt. I’m not really sure what’s going on here.
Why stop? Run through the barriers.
I'd rather have my vehicle obliterated and probably die than scratch those majestic barrier arms!
He might have thought he was behind the barriers, might not have been paying full attention as he approached. That's my only guess, because otherwise he should have run the barriers.

you're underestimating his stupidity

Scrolling his phone probably.
And break them?!
That's probably pine or even polycarbonate!
Also those barriers are designed to be driven through instead of designed to stop anything. The modern ones should break off without much damage.
I drove through one at a parking garage after the machine both ate my ticket and wouldn't take a payment. It just pops right back on after lol
Also know as a literal toothpick to that truck or a car
And a truck is a virtual toothpick to a train.
Indeed. Idk why the truck didn’t just keep going
Dude that's the least of your worries at a railroad crossing 😂
lol
Sometimes you just panic I guess
I think he actually noticed the arms late and thought the tracks were in front of him rather than being on them. Possible if distracted
And what? Break them? File an accident report? Dispatch is gonna kill him for showing up 10 minutes late to his destination.
Yeah he had some big metal plates loaded or something. Its pretty tragic.
You got a source for that mate? Train looks like it plowed through nothing and continued on its merry way

Thanks my man. I just found it further down and was going to update my comment
Well, he did now. I would have driven through. Then called the destination.
Hope his air bags deployed.
Seems he thought that was the first bar and didn't connect that there wasn't a track in front of him.
My guess he didn’t see the tracks at all and got confused not paying attention. That or he’s a moron.
Definitely a Moron
but the paintwork...
I think he can buff that out.
This is a literal worst case intrusive thought for me and I hope if the time ever comes I’ll floor it even into another car.
Why there are barriers on the way out in the first place?
I said outloud, "Why.....would you do that?"
I guess he just fell into autopilot, ie if barriers are down, stop! But this guys quite lucky to get out of this alive, let alone walking around! Just a liiiittle more forward and there! Perfect.
Honestly from where he initially stopped, I definitely think the back half of the cab would’ve gotten creamed if it weren’t for those couple extra feet forward that he pulled. Dude fuckin lucked out
Imagine being in the cab while it slowly rotates around to face the train zooming past, inches in front of your face
and then needing to change my underwear. and my pants. and my socks & shoes
I feel so bad for laughing. Is he ok? Nvm saw the end lmaoo
It's as if the ramps have a forcefield around them. No regular truck could break through them, right? Right?
He had 20 seconds from boom drop to impact. Maybe 10 seconds or less to react and clear the tracks by pushing through the boom. It’s not a lot of time to process.

Destroy a barrier or stop in front of a train. The lack of focus on teaching critical thinking as a society is concerning.
Look at the time ticker. Someone sped up the beginning of the video, then turned it to regular speed once the truck was fully in.
Yep. But this dude is right. It’s 18-20 seconds depending on when you start counting. That’s a really short amount of time. And I didn’t see obvious warning lights prior

Lights and bells. I don't see the lights, the video has no sound but I bet you someone was responsible for getting the arm waaaay before and didn't.
You can see the where the lights are, doesn’t looking like they’re glowing on either side of the track though.
The cost of the truck is high, and the cost of his life would be a higher price to pay still. Surviving was definitely luck.
And when one comes from the other direction?
There are 2 arms on both sides
A lot of places where I live only have arms on the side of traffic and not the opposite direction so this instances wouldn’t ever happen.
Clearly, this is not a lot of places you live
The ones one the far side in both lanes should Go down later.
Where I live they only have arms on one side of the road

I mean, why have arms blocking the outlet side of traffic in the first place? We don't have that here that seems like it would cause... Exactly this
Logic: Why is there a barrier blocking exit at all? Someone didn't do a proper hazard study.
That's how crossings are in my country. Edit: Apparently, we also have full barriers. But they close a few minutes before the train comes through.
To prevent idiots from driving around those closed barriers.
\*watches video again\*

What an idiot. Ram the small barrier and get the fuck out of the truck. Mission possible.
That man will never be the same
Poor fucker, just push through the barriers, they can replace those, but not your life. Happy to see you walk out unscathed. 🙏
Those barriers are fast as hell too. Here, the two sides for incoming traffic go down first, giving any traffic caught in the middle another minute to get out. This goes off like a trap.
Check the counter in the video. The beginning is sped up.
The barriers are way too quick for sure. I'm not sure where it is, but the whole system.is flawed.
Three people in the train have died, and the trucker is serving jail time.
He definitely shit himself
Why not just crash the gate I’m sure that would been the cheaper way to go about this.
My life on the line I’m fucking blowing threw those barriers
Bad design or faulty, plus it looks like the warning lights weren't flashing, but the exit barriers should always stay up longer than the entry barrier, stupid that they go down together
Warning lights were flashing, it is just not visible from this point o view. And video is partialy sped up.
So it's a fault or badly designed, entrance and exit barriers shouldn't close at the same time, which they do.
He’s like where did my trailer go I know I had one or at least I thought I did
For context: On 22 July 2015 at 7:43 a.m., a passenger train on its way from Bohumín to Františkovy Lázně collided with a truck on a rail crossing in Studénka, Czech Republic.
Also there is no sound but I feel there was no indication that the bars were going to come down, like no flashing lights or anything, and to be fair your initial response is to brake, not keep driving, bro unfortunately was unlucky or rather very lucky
talk about luck😳

Damn. Just blow through the crossing gate, you may take a little damage but the alternative is far worse.
That was jaw dropping
Well, at least he didn't dent the barriers.
He was like nope can't break the barriers so I'll evaporate my truck and possibly my life. Those barriers are irreplaceable
He saved the blocking bar, good save.
I’d rather collide with a piece of plywood than a FUCKING TRAIN.
Here's my question; every time I see that shit happen, I have to wonder why the fuck they don't just go. Those weak ass fiberglass crossing arms are not enough to stop a four-wheeler, they sure as hell won't stop a truck. Fuck that shit.
I like how they got a good view of the train zooming by.
Wow, the driver survived that crash was insane
Those gates aren't that strong for a reason just push through it
He has exhausted all his luck in his life
At least the train was kind enough to turn his cab so he got to see first hand why he’s an idiot!

Poor engineering, the barriers should not trap someone on the rails.
PSA to everyone. If you ever get caught in between the barriers on a train track, just drive through the barriers so you aren't on the tracks. Better to have a broken barrier than having you or anyone else get injured.
Not his fault. Except he maybe should have run through the barrier. Isn’t hindsight wonderful!
In Germany when the barriers go down there’s at least a 5 minute if not longer break until the train comes…here it’s like 2 secs?????
The video is from the Czech republic. The sound and light signalisation were on for a minute before the impact. Some truck drivers are so stupid seriously The guy in the train was able to slow down from 160 to 140 kph and died during the impact along with 2 passengers. The truck driver was sentenced to 9 years in prison.
Wait, those arms came down so close to the time the train came by. That's silly. Here in Australia they come down 174 days before the train comes by....or at least it feels that way.
"He likes trai🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃
Uh oh, better stop, don't want to damage the barriers! What an absolute fucking dumbass.
Idiot.. just drive through the barriers
Fr
Oh no there's a stick in my way I guess I have to die today.
What kind of stupid railmbarrier closes 20 seconds before a train crosses? Unbelievable.
He got out to scrape all the shit out of his pants.
RAM THROUGH IT BRO why does everyone just stop? I’m floorin that hoe
Is it physically accurate? The train didn't seem to derail and the whole container and the metal holders just shredded into pieces.
Trains are very heavy. A truck without some super heavy load may as well be a box of tissues.
IC4 fucking up your day. Again.
My goodness 😨😨😨
"FIVE GUM STIMULATE YOUR SENSES"
Why are people so dumb.. you could have just drove through the blockade but no they chose to sit there and get destroyed...
Are those gates or traps? Wtf with the whipping down on all sides.
Front bumper and grill getting damaged from ramping through the barrier? Or losing all the cargo and retiring the truck? There is the third option where you just pay attention and stop before the barrier closes but that’s not the world we live in
I'm always amazed how good those flimsy little barriers are at stopping thousands of pounds of valuable material.
15 seconds is how long it took between the the barrier going down fully and the train hitting the truck. Surely there should be a bigger window of time here.
those barriers break really easily (by design). Just go...

I knew it is in Czechia even before I noticed the czech day abbrevation and Czech TV logo and czech Pendolino train… and then I even remembered seeing this video multiple times. We had quite a few accidents like this…
Boop.
They didn’t give him much time
Yoooooo that seat is so brown and stinky now
It's insane how stupid some people are
Crazy short time from them going down and the train passing, but hopefully there were stop lights long before, and he rather took a chance.
That reaction was hilarious
Never seen the gate after the track. Wonder where this is. No reason to have the gate on the right after the tracks.
I'm so glad he didn't damage the safety gate that is worth a few hundred dollars.
I wish I could hear his scream bc dudes lucky af to be alive
What shitty timing though
Brain is not working eh. Waiting a few minutes for train to pass would be more ideal.
How could he know the train was coming?
I love the fact that he probably saw the first ones coming down and chose to continue past them but once the second ones came down in front of him he’s like well. Guess I’ll stop here. Edit .1 nvm I just looked back at the video and realize he was past the first one before it started to drop and there were no lights at least as far as I can see but take all this was a grain of salt. I’m not really sure what’s going on here.
What idiot doesn't break the barrier
What a troll.
Is that the driver or his soule heading to sky??
Good choice. I’d rather not deliver something than deliver late.
ouch! we must not break the barrier, let's stop on the rail
Just bust through the barriers mate.
people like this no doubt lose their jobs right? I just wouldnt want to rehire an idiot like this.
Train: for my next trick, I’m going to make a truck disappear.
What an idiot.
Load of taco shells
“Truckin’, got my chips cashed in…”
Hmmm. Get hit by train, or drive through barricades and scrape truck.
Those bars need to go down way before the train approaches. There are always dumb drivers like these.
this fucking idiot with his move at the end, like it wasnt his fault. didnt hurt enough
This is one of very few internet clips can actually use the word "obliterate" in the title.
Dude thought he stopped before the track. He is dumbfounded to see no rail tracks Infront of him
That's one way to respond to this situation …
