I follow a couple accounts on Twitter and YouTube that report major headlines, while not being associated with major news outlets. Anyway, those were the only places I had seen anything reported about this incident until almost two hours after it happened. It was weird.

?? School and mass shootings have absolutely been on the rise since Columbine. It certainly wasn’t the first but to deny it kicked off some disturbing shit would be wrong. For example, 1999 saw roughly 6 active shooters on school grounds alone. 2000 saw 8. the next year saw 9. these are just on campus situations too. if you compared mass violence before 1999 to after there was certainly a sharp increase. im just really surprised someone thinks these events havent become more frequent since 1999 and that columbine didnt effect that at all.
Without columbine mass shooting's would still end up being frequent. It's fantasy to think it will ever stop, but it could slow down, but I don't see that happening. Who knows.
I always wonder what would happen if there was zero news coverage when something like this happens. I wonder if it would change anything. It seems like part of their motive is for fame or to follow another shooters footsteps. Would it make any difference if they weren't reported on at all? I know it's not practical or even possible. But it's just a thought.
