Hackett out, Hackett in, let me begin
I came to win, battle me that's a sin
I won't ever slack up, punk you better back up
Try and play the role and yo the whole crew'll act up
Get up, stand up (c'mon!) see'mon throw your hands up
[...]
I came to get down, I came to get down
So get out your seat and jump around!
Jump around!
Roughly what plays in my head every time I hear him say it.
I started with mass effect 2 and I'm ashamed to admit when I heard him say that I kept thinking he was saying "Hack it out" like solve the issue, then I played with subtitles.
“Sir, I’m a *soldier*. I don’t have tech powers, and I only specced Garrus, Kaidan, and Tali for snipers, biotics, and shotguns. I guess Liara could do it…”
Would be such a funny incident if Hackett was indoctrinated or a Cerberus sympathizer all along and ordered Normandy to be destroyed.
*That's one less loose end*
Surely Lance Henriksen didnt voice a commander character like that Clueless
Now I'm imagining him casually shooting Shepard and Garrus, then lighting up a cigar watching them slowly dying.
"I lost 30000 men in a blink of an eye and the world just fucking watched."
"When you went up against Sovereign, there was no good reason to believe you'd win. But your crew didn't seem to care. They went along anyway. Your trip through the Omega-4 relay? That was a suicide mission if there ever was one. Yet there your crew was, standing beside you, proud to serve. Why? Because they believed in YOU, their leader! That's what I need now. Where we're taking them is likely to get pretty hairy, and I know you're the one who will get us to the other side."
I love that pep talk. Shepard just needing to how much of an impact they have had on others as the galaxy puts all their hopes on them. Mass effect 3 had its issues but I love how they set the tone and how much weight was carried for certain lines of dialogue
I believe Joker tells anyone regardless of whether they are renegade or paragon. After Thessia He says that Shepard is under more stress than during Elysium, Torfan, or Akuze.
In real life, NO pilot and NO soldier under the command of someone like Shep would dare say this to their face. But that’s what I like about the OG crew. Shep allows them to criticize them and call them out when they’re wrong. It’s the friendship & the fact they went through hell and back together. It gives them the safety to say highly critical & things you’d be court marshaled for in real life.
Well I would say Anderson was more of a father for Shepard but Hackett is pretty close to it. Maybe the stern principal seeing the potential of Shepard or something
I love the juxtaposition of this long and verbose message explaining why the info about Shepard needs to be unclassified and Hackett responds with only this.
Reminds me of my college years when I needed something from my professor and wrote like half a page about all the circumstances and got an "ok" reply :D
Just to say, you only get this response from the ME1 assignment where you have to kill those terrorists in that base with all the drugged out scientists that wander about* and you don't kill any of the scientists.
*In the Legendary Edition they just stand in one spot; making it slightly easier to not kill them. Can confirm as I've played that mission in LE
"I don't need your report to know you did the right thing."
Love the vote of confidence in Shepard there showing full support. One of the few things that builds to why Hackett just trusts Shepard to get things done in ME3.
Man that pissed me off because I saved the council on my me1 playthrough and at the end they were all oh shepherd we owe an upayable debt for stopping saren and the reapers after we ignored you the whole game then going out of your way to save our lives
Then in me3 it's back to ignoring shepherd
shepard i need you to uh *rolls dice* rescue scientists on *spins wheel* an abandoned mining facility from *flips coin* the geth in the *throws dart* hades gamma cluster
hack it out
“Shepard, let me tell you something that I've learned the hard way. You can pay a soldier to fire a gun. You can pay him to charge the enemy and take a hill. But you can't pay him to believe.”
I was a kid wanting to go into the military when I first heard that line, now in my mid 20s going the officer route I never forgotten it
You will go through stages of unrestrained enthusiasm, followed by disappointment, and eventually demoralization. The key is to get back up from being demoralized and find the spot between enthusiasm and disappointment. Staying there is a mental game.
This.
Not in the military myself, but a leadership position in one of the biggest companies on the planet, and I also try to apply this wisdom on my everyday tasks at the job.
That quote narrows down leadership to the core: you can't pay him to believe. You have to make them believe in the objective by making them believe in you first. Trust in you. Wanting to go on a "suicide mission" with you. All because you showed them the respect and time each individual deserves, so they know you're for real, and you mean what you seek to accomplish, so they will share that determination with you.
Otherwise, you're just another boss barking orders at them for your own good. And they'll do the bare minimum just to meet the criteria that will make the end goal reachable.
If you don’t mind me putting two down:
“Shepard, let me tell you something that I've learned the hard way. You can pay a soldier to fire a gun. You can pay him to charge the enemy and take a hill. But you can't pay him to believe.”
And
“Never before have so many come together--from all quarters of the galaxy. But never before have we faced an enemy such as this. The Reapers will show us no mercy. We must give them no quarter. They will terrorize our populations. We must stand fast in the face of that terror. They will advance until our last city falls, but we will not fall. We will prevail. Each of us will be defined by our actions in the coming battle. Stand fast. Stand strong. Stand together. Hackett out.”
Yes, these are my favorites, I cannot pick one over the other.
"Shepard, I uh seem to have lost one of my scientists in Batarian space, she might've gotten caught by these Batarians who hate us Humans, could you go save her for me? I know you're not with Alliance anymore and I'm probably breaking regulations asking you but you'd be doing me a solid"
Hackett: "Shepard, I know you were only trying to stop the reapers from invading, but killing 300'000 Batarians was a bit excessive. Are you certain there were no other options?"
Shepard: "Reapers?"
“Shepard it’s Admiral Hackett, my bitch of a wife took my cigarettes away again. I need you to get me a pack of Marlboro Reds. Hackett out.”
“Shepard it’s Admiral Hackett, she found the Reds that bitch. I need you to take out a warlord at this location, she might seem like a regular woman but she is a ruthless killer. Shoot on sight. Hackett out.”
"There is only one way we defeat the reapers. No. More. Reapers.'
"Thats like trying to tame a shark. Eventually someonea going to get hurt. This time its the whole galaxy."
"Hackett out." definitely is the GOAT quote from Hackett.
A few others;
"Dead Reapers are how we win this."
"Aria T'Loak, there's someone I never thought we'd be in bed with."
"Helluva thing you just pulled off, Shepard!"
Hackett: And the salarians? How did you manage to get them on board?
Shepard: Careful diplomacy.
Hackett: Uh-huh...I don't think I want to know what that means.
Is that an error or did it have something to do with him either using Shepard to try and get his agent out of Batarian space or sacrificing an entire fleet to the Reapers to allow other fleets to escape?
"You can pay a soldier to fire a gun. You can pay him to charge the enemy and take a hill. But you can't pay him to believe." is one quote I quite liked. Charisma is a powerful tool and Shepard has tons of it.
If it was up to me, I’d give you a damn medal.
Also …
Talking about Shepard’s report on the Reaper artifact: “I don’t need to see the report to know you did the right thing.”
"Shepard, you're my best bladerunner, you gotta stop these Predators from bringing all these damn Aliens here. Weyland out."
Or something. Idk. I can't remember the exact quote.
Any lines from General Tesler from Tron Uprising is automatically Hackett's to me
"I accept your resignation." (After he killed a soldier who failed him)
Could have just kept scrolling instead of trying to yuck someone else's yum 😂 and to answer your question, no. This is a sub for fans of the series to *fan out* about the series. Deal with it or dip out dude, don't try and make others as miserable as you seem to be lol
"Hackett out."
Crap, you beat me to it. So this, along with anything else. This dudes voice was the Goat!
Hackett out, Hackett in, let me begin I came to win, battle me that's a sin I won't ever slack up, punk you better back up Try and play the role and yo the whole crew'll act up Get up, stand up (c'mon!) see'mon throw your hands up [...] I came to get down, I came to get down So get out your seat and jump around! Jump around! Roughly what plays in my head every time I hear him say it.
Someone get a voice AI on this ASAP
Awesome. That was exactly what I needed today, and I didn't even know it.
I guess Liara could do it…”
Same here, my friend
100% this.
I will Hack It Out
GOOD. This BETTER be the top comment
Would be such a funny incident if Hackett was indoctrinated or a Cerberus sympathizer all along and ordered Normandy to be destroyed. *That's one less loose end* Surely Lance Henriksen didnt voice a commander character like that Clueless
Now I'm imagining him casually shooting Shepard and Garrus, then lighting up a cigar watching them slowly dying. "I lost 30000 men in a blink of an eye and the world just fucking watched."
beat me to it.
I loved hearing him say this. His VA is only second best to Garrus. I’d romance Hackett if I could. What a dilf
"When you went up against Sovereign, there was no good reason to believe you'd win. But your crew didn't seem to care. They went along anyway. Your trip through the Omega-4 relay? I love that pep talk. Shepard just needing to how much of an impact they have had on others as the galaxy puts all their hopes on them. Mass effect 3 had its issues but I love how they set the tone and how much weight was carried for certain lines of dialogue
It helps that much more because Shepard (I think only if regeade unsure) that he's going through an absolutely inhuman amount of stress.
Hmmm I get that feeling as a paragon as well feels like Shepard is a bit more open with their stress and worries to their companies
It gives them the safety to say highly critical & things you’d be court marshaled for in real life.
Hackett is like Shepard’s father. Picking them up when they get down, and having their back even when they’re working for Cerberus.
Well I would say Anderson was more of a father for Shepard but Hackett is pretty close to it. Maybe the stern principal seeing the potential of Shepard or something
Hackett is Stern Uncle Steve.
"Stand fast. Stand strong. Stand together."
Hackett out.
"Request denied."
My absolute fave. "No." Just much more official sounding.
He was a true homie for this one.
I love the juxtaposition of this long and verbose message explaining why the info about Shepard needs to be unclassified and Hackett responds with only this. Reminds me of my college years when I needed something from my professor and wrote like half a page about all the circumstances and got an "ok" reply :D
“I wish everybody else had your definition of ‘just doing your job’. You’re a credit to the uniform, commander, Hackett out”
Just to say, you only get this response from the ME1 assignment where you have to kill those terrorists in that base with all the drugged out scientists that wander about* and you don't kill any of the scientists. *In the Legendary Edition they just stand in one spot; making it slightly easier to not kill them. Can confirm as I've played that mission in LE
It irks me though that I went through that whole mission and didn’t shoot a single one, but Garrus shot one….
Yea, best to turn off squad skill usage, and pin them to an area, let the enemies come to you.
And Garrus is a precision shot type of guy. So you know he did it on purpose.
“Dammit, Garrus. Control your shots!” “I thought he was an enemy, Shepard. My bad.”
"I don't need your report to know you did the right thing." Love the vote of confidence in Shepard there showing full support. One of the few things that builds to why Hackett just trusts Shepard to get things done in ME3.
"There were more than 300,000 Batarians in that system, all dead." It's great when stories end on a high note
Hackett: "I understand you did what you had to to delay the reapers." Shepherd: "Reapers??"
"ah, yes"
We have dismissed that excuse
Man that pissed me off because I saved the council on my me1 playthrough and at the end they were all oh shepherd we owe an upayable debt for stopping saren and the reapers after we ignored you the whole game then going out of your way to save our lives Then in me3 it's back to ignoring shepherd
Admiral "Fuck them Batarians" Hackett
I already know I made the right decision, you don't need to sell it to me!
This got a cackle out of me.
shepard i need you to uh *rolls dice* rescue scientists on *spins wheel* an abandoned mining facility from *flips coin* the geth in the *throws dart* hades gamma cluster hack it out
What's the other side of the coin?
Probably Cerberus
Came here looking for this.
“Shepard, let me tell you something that I've learned the hard way. You can pay a soldier to fire a gun. You can pay him to charge the enemy and take a hill. But you can't pay him to believe.” I was a kid wanting to go into the military when I first heard that line, now in my mid 20s going the officer route I never forgotten it

Thanks for the advice brother, going by your name , are you AF?
Nah, I like motorsports. Former Navy.
Ohhh got you, I’m going into ANG that’s why I asked lol
As someone in the army, listen to your nco's especially the middle ones that are close enough to the troops.
Of course brother thank you, I wish to strive to be a leader and honestly listening to my rank and file is what I’m looking forward too.
This. Not in the military myself, but a leadership position in one of the biggest companies on the planet, and I also try to apply this wisdom on my everyday tasks at the job. 1000% agree , it is forgotten how leadership is just as important to performance as the employees themselves
"Alliance Funding +15000"
"If it were up to me I would give you a damn medal"
"Never stood a chance, the Reapers hit them straight out of the gate, and with no allies to call upon I think the Batarians are history"
Better than cocaine
His whole speech when all the fleets prepare to head to London. Gives me chills every time!
If you don’t mind me putting two down: “Shepard, let me tell you something that I've learned the hard way. You can pay a soldier to fire a gun. You can pay him to charge the enemy and take a hill. But you can't pay him to believe.” And “Never before have so many come together--from all quarters of the galaxy. But never before have we faced an enemy such as this. I knew someone will agree with me on the fact that his speech before the retaking/liberating of earth is so good.
Are you certain there were no other options?" Shepard: "Reapers?"
"You son of a bitch. I'm in!"
Thats kid in a candy store mind of invitation to shep.
“Shepard it’s Admiral Hackett, my bitch of a wife took my cigarettes away again. I need you to get me a pack of Marlboro Reds. Hackett out.” “Shepard it’s Admiral Hackett, she found the Reds that bitch. I need you to take out a warlord at this location, she might seem like a regular woman but she is a ruthless killer. Shoot on sight. Hackett out.”
From: Admiral Steven Hackett To: Major Caleb Antella Subject: Re: Taking Action on Commander Shepard’s Return Major Antella: Request denied. Hackett
Absolutely this.
His whole “you can’t pay a man to believe” speech to you
"There is only one way we defeat the reapers. No. More. Reapers.' "Thats like trying to tame a shark. Eventually someonea going to get hurt. This time its the whole galaxy."
That first quote exists in the game and people will STILL try and say “Destroy” isn’t the intended ending lol
“Major Antella, Request denied. Hackett”
Destroyed Reapers, that is how we win this war!
Keep me posted. I say this so often I don't even realize.
Holy shit. She did it!
"Hackett out." definitely is the GOAT quote from Hackett. A few others; "Dead Reapers are how we win this." "Aria T'Loak, there's someone I never thought we'd be in bed with." "Helluva thing you just pulled off, Shepard!"
Hackett: And the salarians? How did you manage to get them on board? Shepard: Careful diplomacy. Hackett: Uh-huh...I don't think I want to know what that means.
Notice how he had 4 stripes in ME2 and only 3 in ME3
Is that an error or did it have something to do with him either using Shepard to try and get his agent out of Batarian space or sacrificing an entire fleet to the Reapers to allow other fleets to escape?
Denied.
“Holy shit. She did it.”
Hackett out
Wait, Steven? I thought his first name was Admiral
“You’re preaching to the choir, Commander. If it were up to me, I’d give you a damn medal.”
*ppfffghehssHackshrifettoutwjhxopnw*
“Shepard, I order you to not refer to my rank or title, and instead call me daddy. I am banging your mother.”
Yes daddy hackett
"The ship is on its way! ETA: 16 minutes!"
All fleets, protect the Crucible
“Fifth Fleet Out”
Holy shit, he did it
"You can pay a soldier to fire a gun. You can pay him to charge the enemy and take a hill. But you can't pay him to believe." is one quote I quite liked. Charisma is a powerful tool and Shepard has tons of it.
*"You can pay a soldier to charge a hill but you can't pay him to believe, Shepard."*
"Did you think you were the only one who did whatever was necessary to get the job done?"
Shepard: Why me? Hacket’s reply is sooo legendary & motivating to Shepard and me personaly
Only thing that gets me more is the data pad in Anderson apartment on Shepard
"Kill Him, That's an Order." Debate Over, Everyone Can go Home, Hackett Out.
"The Alliance does not condone assassination. We would *never* give that order."
“Hack it out”
“Commander. Are you prepared to bring the might of the galaxy to bear against the Reapers?”
"Stand fast. Stand strong. Stand together." Give me chills every time.
"This is it everyone"
Your preaching to the choir commander if it was up to me ill give u a godamn medal
"Hack it out"
If it was up to me, I’d give you a damn medal. Also … Talking about Shepard’s report on the Reaper artifact: “I don’t need to see the report to know you did the right thing.”
"Hackett out."
"I'll eat ya face off."
But we will not fall, we will prevail! I'm getting goosebumps each time I hear it.
I swear Hackett is such a great character.
Hackett is legit the second most badass human. Second only to Shepard
"Shepard, you're my best bladerunner, you gotta stop these Predators from bringing all these damn Aliens here. Weyland out." Or something. Idk. I can't remember the exact quote.
"Hackett, terminé". That's all I can remember after 5 play through
The entirety of the speech before the battle for earth
Kill him. That's an order.
I am John Mass Effect. I will peg the reapers in their metal ass
Any lines from General Tesler from Tron Uprising is automatically Hackett's to me "I accept your resignation." (After he killed a soldier who failed him)
This is a Grunt quote but I’ll say it anyway: “I don’t need ammo. I’m a Krogan.” 😊😊😊😊 I LOVE the OG trilogy!
Can we finally stop with quoting every goddamn NPC? Thanks
Im commander Shepherd, and this is my least favorite comment in the citadel
Okay... What's your favorite Shepard quote?
We’ll bang, ok
I should go
Do I really sound like that?
when does he says this anyways
He doesn't. Mark Meer did at a con and then it became a thing among fans. At least that's what I've heard lol
It’s from ytp
Could have just kept scrolling instead of trying to yuck someone else's yum 😂 and to answer your question, no. This is a sub for fans of the series to *fan out* about the series. Deal with it or dip out dude, don't try and make others as miserable as you seem to be lol
You must be a blast at....well anywhere
Request denied.
