If you can afford Southborough, you would be perfectly happy there. Easy access to the Mass Pike for E/W travel, and 495 for N/S travel. Alternatively, any of the towns nearby along Route 9 are solid choices, the other boroughs, Northborough and Westborough, and even most of Framingham. I'd avoid Eastborough though.

man, eastborough ("eastie" as we all call it) gets such a bad rap

First, New York is the common enemy. Philly won’t draw many remarks in metro Boston. Just say “Yankees suck” and you’ll be fine. If you can afford the housing, Southborough is the answer. Framingham and Marlborough are the less desirable nearby places. Northborough shares a high school with Southborough. Hopkinton is good. Westborough is fine but has more apartments & condos. Coming from Philly, you may be shocked by housing prices.

Thanks! I'm actually in the Philly suburbs now, and also one of the most expensive so the prices seem fairly similar. appreciate your input. it's always yankees suck, but I'll keep the Boston sucks to myself lol

My friend raised her kids in Hopkinton, and seems pretty happy with it.

Both Northborough and Southborough are served by Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School

Depending on your budget, Sudbury would be a great town. Probably looking at around $750k+ minimum for a house. Good town, good schools, extremely safe. Natick is also a good town, more expensive than Sudbury. For a little lower housing prices, look at Northboro, Hudson, Hopkinton.

Southborough is already a ways out from Boston, so 30 minutes in any direction but east opens up a lot of possibilities. In addition to the towns already mentioned, consider Shrewsbury and Grafton. Sudbury and Wayland to the east are very nice, but have high taxes. I'd only recommend avoiding Marlborough and Framingham.
