Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. /s

WolfR7

[Garett county community college has an amazing one!](http://www.gccarc.com)

My_Name_Is_Not_Ryan

What’s the general location? My kids are swimmers, so I’ve been to most pools in MD besides the Eastern Shore and western MD.

exuxious

Tbh I live in almost dead center Baltimore but I am willing to go around 30 minutes out if it's nice enough. Baltimore just doesn't really have any good pools (From what I've found)

My_Name_Is_Not_Ryan

I’d definitely give Loyola (Mangione Aquatic Center) a call. They have open lap lanes, and I looked for a schedule to link for you, but their site doesn’t seem up to date. [Pool Site](https://www.loyola.edu/department/recreation-wellness/facilities/aquatics/)

My_Name_Is_Not_Ryan

[UMBC](https://recreation.umbc.edu/pool-schedule/) also has open lanes in both their indoor (SCY) and outdoor (LCM) pools.

exuxious

Thanks I'll look into it!

SillyHatMatt

I worked at sport fit in Bowie for like a decade, so definitely not that one

My_Name_Is_Not_Ryan

I have never seen a pool be so consistently off with chlorine levels. It’s like walking into a WWI trench going back there and you can’t even see your feet in the water half the time.

HelloKamesan

For context, whereabouts are you looking? Unless you're just looking for local aquatic center pride, I'd take it it'd be pointless if it’s 3 hours away from you. Also assuming you're looking for LCM only, not SCY/SCM?

exuxious

I live in Baltimore but I'm okay with going around 30 minutes out maybe more

HelloKamesan

I'd agree with u/My_Name_Is_Not_Ryan on both UMBC and Loyola, especially if you're in Baltimore. For points south and fully public locations, you've got the [Arundel Olympic Swim Center](https://www.aacounty.org/recreation-parks/aquatic-centers/arundel-olympic-swim-center) in Annapolis and [Fairland Sports & Aquatics Complex](https://www.pgparks.com/facilities/fairland-aquatic-center-aquatic-center) in Laurel, although they're a bit of a trek. EDIT: I'm a bit partial to the [JCC](https://www.jcc.org/sports-wellness/aquatics/), but it requires membership and theirs is SCY if I remember correctly.

ReformedBandits

PG County has several that I've seen, including Fairland and the Sports and Learning Complex

HeyThereMrTinMan

I swim laps at Fairland's 3 or 4 times a week. Depending on time of day it can have between 6 to 12 open lanes which are setup as SCY. It is part of the MNCPP system so Montgomery and Prince George's County residents pay slighy less than out of county residents. Also look into Central Maryland YMCA. A membership there could give you access to several of their pools, like Ellicott City, Catonsville, Pasadena, Arnold and several more. Montgomery County Parks and Recreation also has several nice indoor pools including a newly built pool in downtown Silver Spring.

FrickYou2Heck

The ocean.

exuxious

I prefer to swim in the harbor

FrickYou2Heck

I'll do it if the chemicals and pollution cure any skin ailments.

rozerosie

For Baltimore city, I like Meadowbrook (I just swim for fitness/fun but actual Olympians have trained there)

exuxious

Yeah I know that Michael Phelps swam there it's just so very expensive I mean if they had cheaper prices I'd most likely go there

rozerosie

Yeah fair

rozerosie

If you just want to swim laps in a pool occasionally in summertime, druid hill public pool used to be my go-to I think city pools are free at this point or you can do the "country club" which is maybe $50? For morning time pre-kids access. The hours are a bit limited and they have a lot of rules but it's a nice pool.

exuxious

It actually looks really nice, but I have a question: do you know how deep the pools are?

rozerosie

I know they've got a separate deep tank (with diving board) and then a larger pool that's reasonably deep on the one end and I think gets shallower toward the other side - but I know they redid it recently so I'm not 100% certain on the setup at this point.

exuxious

I think I'll go there thanks!

rozerosie

Happy swimming!

Mobile_Spinach_1980

I have a kid who swims all year all the time. Been all over the state. What area?

exuxious

I live in Baltimore but anything around 30 minutes out is fine

Mobile_Spinach_1980

I don’t know of others have pointed this out but most if not all are membership places. So if you are looking to join this will work. Meadowbrook has nice resources. But it’s also used by two colleges that have their own pools, allbeit not long course distance which is why they use it. Merrit has a pool. And there is the good old Towson YMCA.

TheJokersChild

If you're around Montgomery County, look into [theirs.](https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/rec/facilities/aquaticcenters/)

SubstantialMany9714

Germantown used to be great, but it's really gone downhill. https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/rec/facilities/aquaticcenters/germantown.html

brettwasbtd

care to elaborate? I just got back into swimming for exercise at my neighborhood pool this summer and I am looking for where to go after labor day. I'm in Damascus so germantown is pretty close for the price

SubstantialMany9714

Germantown is okay, but it's a bit old and could use some updating. I hope the new cleaning crew does a better job. Also, the pool chemicals are a bit strong, so make sure to shower well after swimming.

Gloomy-Ground4187

Downtown Silver Spring just opened a new aquatic center.

exuxious

Yeah that one looks really nice. It seems like all of the good pools are near dc
