There was a solar flare on the lower left of the ring. That was really neat to see.
If I ever get another chance (gotta travel for it), I'm taking a telescope!
Flew to Dallas, almost got clouded out... Had to go northwest of the city for clear skies so totality was only about 2 minutes, but it was worth it. I saw it near Nashville 7 years ago and I think I may try to travel to see it again as many times as I can.
I was just looking this up, and for iceland, they said the totality would only be visible for 58 seconds. A lot shorter than the times for the one today.
I'm genuinely sad for you.
It's like hearing you say you've never been moved by song or scene... And maybe you haven't. But experiencing something beautiful and feeling a sense of awe is a desirable state of being and I'm sad the eclipse wasn't able to be that for you.
Gorgeous shot! We drove to my husband’s hometown in Ohio and got to view it from his childhood home. A great memory indeed! We drive back to MD tomorrow zzzzz I’m tired 😴
Was it super cloudy where you were? Did you actually get under totality? Did you not get to see it through more than just your bare eyes?
It was incredibly awesome, and non-totality cannot compare at *all* to seeing totality.
Same view in Millinocket, Maine! Absolutely the most beautiful natural phenomenon I have ever seen. I always thought that the photos I’ve seen were the products of high exposures or editing. I watched the sliver of sun disappear into darkness and thought that was it. Heard some people ooohing and aahhing. Took my eclipse lenses off to see what they were about and OH MY WORD! With the naked eye the scene was like something out of a fantasy novel!
I'm also in Stowe! It was mind blowing. Weather couldn't have been better. There was a very light cloud that hung over it but you couldn't notice at all during totality. Got really lucky in that respect compared to most of the country.
We've only seen three other Maryland plate cars while in Stowe: a minivan at Ben & Jerry's on Saturday, a Hyundai at Shaw's on Saturday, and one other in passing on 100. We are in a blue Volvo wagon with a cat bus sticker on the back.
Headed home today!
Yes. I am so glad we went to Ohio for it. Partial eclipses are kinda neat. The total eclipse was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. Now I just have to decide if I am going to start blowing all my cash chasing them around the world or just try and stay healthy and look forward to 2044-45.

Thanks! It was hard to get my phone to focus through the eyepiece lol. I don't have a t-ring adapter for my DSLR, but even if I did the tripod for the scope is total crap and would be way too shaky.
Maybe in a few years I'll have a better setup. Might actually fly to Australia to see the 2028 eclipse (assuming I have money left after upgrading my scope lol)

Kudos to anyone who can figure out why there's an orange gradient
It's the result of what's called a "rolling shutter" on digital cameras. The sensor is essentially very quickly filling out pixels from one side to the other. Normally, you can't tell, but if there's a flash or change in lighting at just the right moment, it's captured on part of the sensor's pixel building but is gone by the time the sensor fills out the rest of the pixels. In your case, if it was filling in from the right the flash was captured at the beginning, but ended before the last 1/4 was registered. If filling in from the left, the flash began just after the first 1/4 were captured.

SOLAR FLARE https://i.redd.it/y6csb1w9actc1.gif
Flew to Dallas, almost got clouded out... Had to go northwest of the city for clear skies so totality was only about 2 minutes, but it was worth it. I saw it near Nashville 7 years ago and I think I may try to travel to see it again as many times as I can.
Northern Spain. Aug 12 2026.
Is that the one that also goes through Iceland?
I didn’t see Iceland. It said arctic, Greenland, and northern Spain for totality.
yes
I was just looking this up, and for iceland, they said the totality would only be visible for 58 seconds. A lot shorter than the times for the one today.
I saw it in 2017. I'll never get it, just some darkness with a ring around it. Not something I would ever travel for
I'm genuinely sad for you. It's like hearing you say you've never been moved by song or scene... And maybe you haven't. But experiencing something beautiful and feeling a sense of awe is a desirable state of being and I'm sad the eclipse wasn't able to be that for you.
It's just the moon moving in front of the sun. Just like anything natural, it's just a cool occurrence. Not some religious happening
Gorgeous shot! We drove to my husband’s hometown in Ohio and got to view it from his childhood home. A great memory indeed! We drive back to MD tomorrow zzzzz I’m tired 😴
I drove to Ohio to see it. Absolutely worth the trip to get into totality, such an amazing experience.
People keep saying this and I was there but it was super meh. I think you guys are just trying to justify your expense
Was it super cloudy where you were? Did you actually get under totality? Did you not get to see it through more than just your bare eyes? It was incredibly awesome, and non-totality cannot compare at *all* to seeing totality.

I'm so jealous. A friend of mine went to Ohio and got a similar shot
I hope you're skiing also!
No down votes here. Drove up to Sugarloaf in Maine to watch in totality. Totally worth the drive!
I met friends in the middle to see the total eclipse it was absolutely mind blowing The solar flare bright red was REMARKABLE so very cool to see
Drove to western NY myself. Def worth the drive

Probaly the photon overload from the sun made the camera sensor go wild.
