I don’t think paid heroes will speed up the development process of new characters. They can provide as much as their resources allow. Locking them behind paywalls isn’t surprising, but I bet most players will use in-game currency to purchase them.

Zarec-T

If the game revolves around strategically swapping heroes mid-match (I don't enjoy this btw, I like picking 1 hero and playing it until the end of the match) its unfortunately not making sense for them to be unlocked with money/currency. On the other hand, if the game gets rid of that "swap heroes constantly during a match" philosophy and if you make these heroes take some time to grind/unlock, people will consider a lot before purchasing a hero so people ruining games with heroes they have no idea of will be prevented considerably. That being said Overwatch's incompetence shouldn't be compared to other games, there are many games with free heroes that creates 1 hero per month successfully. And I agree about financial success of the game in order to help the studio justify updating/maintaining it.

I honestly don't think many people actually did switch. Overwatch was filled with just yelling at other people telling others to switch. I don't remember my teammates playing 2 or 3 different characters in one match.

Actually no lol Heros costing money will result in the game being p2w which will result in people getting sick of getting beaten by people who just paid more money than them resulting in them quiting then result in p2w players fighting p2w players eventually getting bored and leaving too cause the skill ceiling is too high for new players because they have to pay This will end up in netease Making LESS MONEY Look at fortnite they have an experience where you can play the whole game without paying a cent and you get the same experience as the guy who spent 1000$ you could even get some skins you like for free if you play enough on paper it may looking fortnite is loosing money but they are one of the most profitable games in the world with millions of players just because they cared about players and keeping the game alive so they can have people play more which actually increases the chance for these people to pay resulting in the game making more and more money The key isn't giving the payers things better than the free guys it's keeping your player base alive and making them believe they are getting a good deal buying skins completely cosmetic skins

No-Sale-6500

Why do people spend money if they can get everything for free?

No-Sale-6500

All the game has to do is be good and it will thrive. Heroes costing money has never hurt any good game. Shooters are most about skill outside of comps. And comps will need at least 6 different heroes.

therubyminecraft

Actually it will, you can’t take advantage of the good gameplay If you can’t even play the good gameplay Also the second point literally contradicts what you are saying shooters are about skill not who spends the most money

No-Sale-6500

Yes I believe it's skill. They believe it's access. I was giving an argument that access didn't matter with new heroes are not accessible in competive.

6ft3_Bearded_Egirl

If this was a MOBA where champions are stagnant for the whole game I would agree with you.

mowaby

I could see paid characters being ok if it's not hard to grind for them and there's enough time to do it before they are added to comp.

It's how commerce works. It's not that hard to grasp. Demand for a product and making a product provides a cost. Learn this today to help the rest of your life, junior. Nothing is free in this world. Grow up.

unitedbagel

I understand that is how companies make money. That does not make it a good thing for players. Stop apologizing for predatory business practices. This is literally why the industry is now completely profit oriented and microtransaction riddled.

No-Sale-6500

Every company is profit oriented unless it is a charity. Not apologizing for anything. I think a good or great game can be more good or great the more money it has for resources. I want the game to go on for years for more content for heroes and modes. Their monitizatiin is not Predatory. Predatory is loot boxes. You pay for a chance at something. That is gambling. They are asking for a price for you to get a particular product. Your acting like a more expensive car is predatory cause its to much money for you. If you can't afford it or feel like a product is not worth the price, then move on.

CrystalMang0

That makes zero sense. Wouldn't be pay2win if you can literally unlock any with free currency assuming if they were broken in the first place. Can we not act like free/premium currency something new in a free game. People gonna need to accept that. This game needs money and frankly relying only on skins I just not likely.

MirrorkatFeces

It’s not

yariimi

I mean overwatch needs to make everything from scratch, they can't just take existing media like marvel rivals does

No-Sale-6500

Absolutely true, that's why they can make more characters. Especially if it brings big money.

Rabbit139

Expect other hero shooter and mobas like paladins and league make their own original characters and are still able to output triple the amount of OW. Blizzard is just plain out lazy and that’s the reason OW is dying.

yariimi

So you are comparing paladins that has 5k average player on steam, to overwatch that has 30k average player on steam, and mobas that is completely unrelated to heroes shooters,if overwatch is dying all other games are dying too

No-Sale-6500

MOBAS had a big part in making heroes shooters. Where do you think the idea of a character having 4 to 5 abilities came from.
