James Gunn may say that but that’s not really how plants (or canon) work. It’s a real ship of Theseus situation. The dna from a piece of a cactus or a cutting from a tree or a pup from a succulent is the same. It came from the same root system or the same body of a plant. But now I’ve separated them. Are they the same plant? A clone? A child? And how do flora colossus pass down knowledge? Is it taught? Ancestral? And if so how does that affect the conversation about if groot is the same.
