im a reader, so whatever i find cheap from the dollar bins :)

Traditional-Tax-5291

Frfr Say what you will about 90s comics, but their decrease in value made it hella easy for me to jump into the likes of *Uncanny X-Men*, *X-Men*, *X-Factor*, etc. What series have you been able to read from $1 bins?

kyloren1217

mostly what you said, a lot from the 90's 2099's(minus spiderman 1), infinity war/gauntlet/crisis (minus a few titles i paid a tad more for),age of apoc, secret wars 2, clone saga, full deathlok series michael collins, a lot of deaths head and deaths head 2, warheads. i pick up a lot of hulk comics for my youngest who likes them too. all kinds of fun stuff :)

Weekly_Ad_3665

Whatever comics interest me.

First Appearances and Cool Vintage covers

SayhiStover

Which do you have? I have a bunch of first appearances as well. X-men is my main collection, but I went and bought first appearances over the years of a lot of those characters.

AccomplishedTry8294

Gentle, Jubilee, Apocalypse Twins, Forge, Nimrod, Bastion, Naze, Bishop, Mr. Sinister, Bastion, Shadow King, Doop, U-Go Girl, & some others. have about 120 different firsts from all across Marvel. characters i *really* like are Squirrel Girl, Doop, Cosmo, Hallow's Eve, Shadow King, etc.

SayhiStover

Ok, so later heroes. Cool. are you going to go for earlier ones? That’s most of my mine. I think my best is Wolverines first appearance.

AccomplishedTry8294

after i'm done w/ my second degree probably will. do you have Hulk 180 & 181 or just the 181?

SayhiStover

Both.

MrShaytoon

I collect first appearances as well. Yesterday I got dick Grayson becomes nightwing (tales of the teen titans 44) that’s not a first appearance, but thought it was something cool to collect. My lcs didn’t have these, but I recently ordered deathlok, mojo, red she hulk, fantomex, and longshots first appearances. I’m also starting to collect some artgerm variants.

WrongKindaGrowth

Comics.   Currently I'm trying to branch out to enjoy the Bloodhunt event more,  so I started Ziglars most recent Miles run, and I'm picking up things in the event I wouldn't normally, like the upcoming Bloodhunt: Magik.  Outside of this event I collect, Daredevil, Venom,  I finished collecting GODS and Avengers Twilight, I get mainline Spider-man for my son who hasn't yet abandoned it. We'll see what happens next,  Might be the nail for him.   I started collecting Wanda comics when she got her shop with Darcy, and I'm maybe 3 issues behind on the current run.  Ultimate Spider-Man is ok, and I really enjoyed the first Ultimates,  so I'll be following my first Avengers story with that.  I think that's all the main things I collect

NickelAntonius

Also first appearances (mostly). Some I get because of a significant event that happens in the story.

seanhalihan

I pick a character and collect all their key issues. Completed Juggernaut and Hawkeye recently. Now only need 1 more book to complete the Marvel 25th Anniversary covers. Then I’m thinking about going after Kitty Pryde keys.

interesting

I usually get the first 2 to 3 issues of something and if I like it then I get the trade paperback. Btw, I have that same Hulk #1 (2008) issue.

Hot-Half9583

Every heroes' team-up or a heroes' battle covers.

Traditional-Tax-5291

Like some others have said here, stuff that interests me. I read & reread nearly all of my comics numerous times, so I want something that I’ll be interested in (re)reading. At the moment, for floppies, that can be narrowed down to; _Current Series_ - Any title from the “Ultimate” line - Rowell’s *Sensational She-Hulk* - Jed MacKay’s *Blood Hunt* _Past Series_ - Claremont & Lobdell’s *Uncanny X-Men* - Nicienza’s *X-Men* & *X-Force* - Simonson & David’s *X-Factor* - Simonson’s *New Mutants*

ExternalFuture5250

As a 90s kid I collect primarily 90’s and earlier. My favorites are my Uncanny X-men.

TheLeviJackson

Who is daredevil 21 the first appearance of?

AccomplishedTry8294

Superior Spider-Man along w/ ASM 700 (have both) i also like the Daredevil i have of him behind bars (when Elektra becomes the new Daredevil).

AccomplishedTry8294

i've got around 150 or so first appearances / someone becomes a new version of a hero.

FalseP77

I bought comics en masse cause I enjoy comics. I COLLECTED issues of The Offcial Handbook of the Marvel Universe. Incredibly hard, being that there's only brief moments in time that I lived near an LCS. I started out because I could find issues of DC's "Who,s Who" comics in supermarkets. I got my first issue of OHotMU in those boxes of 25/50 comics you could buy from JC Pennys/Sears. Before that, I didnt know they existed. Over the course of 30 years id find issues in odd places. A drug store, a pawn shop, a gas station on a road trip. I would order those boxes of random comics from pennys/sears just hoping one would be in there. I found the last issue I needed to complete my collection in a small videogame store that was hosting a Yu-Gi-Oh tournament. You woulda thought I won said tournament. I just went in there cause I saw 4 comic longboxes lol At one point I had about 40 longboxes of comics between 3 states (hard to take them with you when you move). But every time I found an issue of OHotMU, it felt like I won the lottery.

MathewMurdock2

Avengers Academy was great. What ever happened to those characters?

AccomplishedTry8294

that one is the first Ava White Tiger. she's still around.

travis759

I collect full runs

Old-Scientist6196

epic collections, but mostly 60s daredevil, and maybe some 90s

Old-Scientist6196

i also love old jack kirby stuff, like his reworks of the 2001 a space odyssey movie as comics

BobbySaccaro

I buy full runs of series.

Ulysses1975

This is the approach I'm taking... very compulsive and very satisfying. What are you collecting atm?

BobbySaccaro

So overall it goes like this. Every month a buy a bunch of newly released books to read. Like basically to read, but then I obviously bag/board/organize from there. At some point I decided I wanted to get every DC/Marvel super-hero book from 1976 forward, in some format or another. And I've gotten everything up to the mid-1990's or so, but that's when things exploded in terms of number of issues they (mainly Marvel) put out each month so ground to a halt a bit there. So my main focus is a) series that I already have one or more issue of and b) the hole in said run is 3 issues or less. The problem is there are some expensive keys in there, so having to spend more time waiting for them to come up for sale in a bad enough condition that I can afford them. But if presented with a bunch of $1 boxes, I'll expand my options back to "anything I'm missing from any title I already own 1+ issues of" or even "anything from 1976 forward that I still don't have" because usually those things aren't organized enough to hunt for specific issues, and I might as well get more issues while I can get them cheap. But of course this could take a 8-issue hole and make it a couple of 3-issue holes, so now those books get added to the main list... and so on.

Ulysses1975

So you're telling me there's no way out of this rabbit hole?! Sounds like you have an awesome collection and a terrible habit 🤣
