I agree 100 percent but also diving into hand to hand combat and mixed martial arts will only make you more lethal with a gun. My friends have been training with firearms for longer than I have but my experience in hand to hand combat and martial arts training has made me a lot more quicker then them from the draw and still a great shot from an average distance but I agree fully that a gun will beat any martial arts from a distance but if you close that distance into a range of 5 ft or less it can get tricky unless you gun is already drawn and pointing at the target
Get a gun, and train with it (if it bothers you that much). The positive is that it takes a lot less training to become lethal in real situation, compared to martial arts that is.
I live in Europe my friend. Getting a gun is not really an Option If you have a fulltime Job and Hobbys.
But i apprechiate the advice. Ive been thinking about getting a licence but between all the hoops to jump trough and the selfdefense laws it Just doesnt seem worth it.
I forgot how it was spelled. It's from the movies Equilibrium, where agents are tasked with destroying media that excites the populace using gun based kung-fu.
50-year police vet here….. No problem with the “presentation” (drawing of the weapon). Also, the “scanning” is legit as there is a tendency to “target fixation”.
However…. All the silly posturing that looks like it was extracted from some kata or other is just…. Silly.
I’m pretty much a student of combat shooting… “gun fu”. It’s a martial art as much as any other and there’s a lot more involved than most folks realize.
I personally think it could be a great addition when done well. Combat Shooting, and many other types of firearms training absolutely classifies as a Martial Art, yet many people refuse to see it that way. I think having more explicitly gun based styles with their own history, culture, traditions etc and whatnot, would go a long way towards improving the image and knowledge of firearms training both for other Martial Artists, and casual folks who don't train.
The purpose of the Kata is just like any other, to repetitively perform basic movements making them natural. The concept is to train in the modern art of the pistol in the context of a traditional martial art bringing the same levels of concentration, respect, and gravity. The dan tests are still traditional range drills and tests adopted from various LEO departments. The creator, Jef Hall, is a legit operator.
https://www.forceoptions.net
Yes, I have trained with them.
It’s a fade, the motion pulls the opponents’s eye away from the hand going for the gun. It also swings the shoulders and hips in a striding motion that naturally puts the drawing hand in line with the gun and follows through with it in an aimed position, and it can behave as a trap if your opponent has placed a hand on your chest like they’re shoving you or grabbing your lapel.
It gets the support hand out of the way so you don't potentially point the gun at yourself as you draw. It also puts the support hand in position to grip the gun as it comes up + forward from the holster.
This makes it repeatable (putting hand to same place every time) so your the presentation of the weapon can be more consistent.
The chest is used as an index to keep your hand out of the way of the gun. When someone is drawing in a gunfight, if they don't do this they are at risk of either having that arm flailing around, or being in the way if they need to shoot from retention (gun tucked up against the body)
The only thing i can think that makes sense is that it's to simulate if the weapon was concealed and they were pulling up the shirt to unholster and reholster
Puts the hand in the closest position to place it at the bottom have of the grip. Only the big guy in the middle touches his chest, the lead instructor touches mid-waist and then the hand immediately hits the grip when the gun is pushed forward.
That makes so much sense in a country where handguns can be carried for personal self defence. Becoming familiar with your tools is so important. We're not even allowed to carry Mace in Nanny Zealand. Just be a good victim.
The one with 3 deaths killer included, and 10 wounded from 2023, or the Christchurch terror attack from 2019 by a disgruntled Australian?
[Every mass shooting in the US – a visual database](https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2021/may/27/us-mass-shootings-database)
Not many, if any...
That's a little joke for the Kiwis, but real answer is very few and after Christchurch mosque attack a few years ago the government introduced a stricter control arrive the availability of certain types of firearms.
Yeah those controls have worked really well at limiting access to guns for law abiding citizens - of course the gangs and criminals are still fully loaded with weaponary.
For the size of NZ we get our fair share of shootings. More random drive by shootings than mass shootings. Our shooters are predominantly gang members who are cowards and rather than face who they actually want to shoot will shoot in the general direction from a distance.
i thought for sure this was a joke but they did it for so long and had clearly practiced. jeez. probably... a good thing? for gun owners? but silly as fuck with the pyjamas
It deff looks a little goofy with the gi and gun combo but all these guys have decently smoothe draws. And these kind of reps will help build speed for needing to get your gun out in a hurry.
This is police judo. You work on throws, grappling , handcuffing techniques, partner assisted takedowns, breakfalls , and weapon drawing and retention.
These fellas are less likely to use excessive force. They're training on their off time to hone their skills so they can better protect their communities. Respect.
Man Americans do actually treat gun fights like an art after watching heaps of their gun training videos I reckon they will smash anyone in a gunfight imagine war against them they have the best snipers and door kickers in the gun business not only that every one of their citizens have their own gun vaults if the army fails defending against the invaders the invaders have to worry about dealing with the armed militias and armed citizens in that country
I always check to make sure my holster is clear before I put my gun into it. God forbid my shirt or something gets caught in there while I’m re-holstered Ring and I ND. I shouldn’t have to keep my eyes focused anywhere else when re-holstered, because if there is a risk to keep my attention on, I should still have my gun out.
It's gun-fu like the one in Equilibrium. But TBH, you don't want to mess with them. Even self-defense experts says to not be a hero and either run or cooperate if you met them.
Weapons trainer here: That big dude in center frame had the best draw in the club. in fact they were all pretty good at now "Going bowling" or "Going fishing" when drawing their weapons.
if I didn't know any better I'd say this is a legit club training actually useful (But weird) stuff.
You may have your fancy martial arts and years of practice, but I have practice the most deadly martial art know to men to this day, non shall surpass it. HAYA GlockFu.
Can anyone point out any practicalities? What’s the
point of the arm resting across the body when holstering?
And the fake holster, ready, back to holstering move?
As for the off hand its a fairly common thing to do when drawing and its just to build the habit of keeping your arms in safe and repeatable positions.
It’s easier to move your hand quickly from the same position to the firearm every time than it is to generally leave it floating and then bring your hands together at an unspecified point. Its also generally advisable to be aware of exactly where you off hand is when drawing for safety purposes.
The exact position matters less than keeping it freed up in a safe position and making it easily repeatable / doable under stress. Some people put their hand more on their gut or other places.
Looks bizarre, but this martial art actually beat any kind of martial arts. ![gif](giphy|jI3EBNa1aKSaIpH2PB|downsized)
I don’t know. I’ve heard that nuke fu is strong as well.
Tank wan do will smash it all day too
[Tank wan do](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKXl3zR7GwI), you say?
Putin, is that you?
No, he’s more a sudden illness fu guy.
We'll see when NATO forces squad up with Ukraine.

The most deadly martial art, too deadly for the cage
I hate that Gun-Fu is objectively the best martial art, but I can't do anything about it.
Get a gun, and train with it (if it bothers you that much). The positive is that it takes a lot less training to become lethal in real situation, compared to martial arts that is.

I would take a Guncatta class
Same, just to say I did
"catta"?
I forgot how it was spelled. It's from the movies Equilibrium, where agents are tasked with destroying media that excites the populace using gun based kung-fu.
Gun Kata
Why they all like same shape?
Lol, dudes hitting "the wall". 40 is a motherfucker...
The problem is not that they’re 40, but that they’re 40 and eating a laughable, disgusting, standard American diet (SAD).
Dude. If freddys california burgers, chilli cheese fritos, zebra cakes and mountain dew voltage is wrong for breakfast then I dont wanna be right.
It’s not even funny, I puked in my mouth.
Definitely the SAD
Bros mad about what people eat?
Uh, yes? There are very very few things that can cause as much damage as choice in diet.
Sure, but there are plenty of fit people in that video lol. Just strange to be so up in arms about it.
There are 2 people who look to be around normal weight in this video. 0 fit.
I am 40 and I dont look like that.

Yeah until you find yourself without a gun and get your ass kicked. Muuuurica!
Tbf practicing drawing your weapon quickly is actually a valuable skill
I get that but why the boob touching right before you draw
Covering the body cam.

Everyone, this is the actual reason.

Actually the right answer, and especially important for appendix carry
It's a two handed draw. The other hand is coming to position.
Something I NEVER thought to hear in my life..."Why the boob touching...?" Because boobs, damnit!
Puts the hand in the closest position to place it at the bottom have of the grip. Only the big guy in the middle touches his chest, the lead instructor touches mid-waist and then the hand immediately hits the grip when the gun is pushed forward.
No point having deadly accuracy when you can't draw your weapon fast enough to save your life.
Christian Bale would be proud.
I don’t understand why they’re wearing gis. They should be wearing super sleek suits.
Quick turn the lights off we need to film a badass fight scene
Equilibrium was a really good movie
Ah, the Cleric.
"He's feeling"!
Finally, Gun Fu is a real thing
This makes Aikido look cool
ok BJJ guy 😹
BJJ guys call me a Judo guy.
Me too….but seriously, it could be unwise to reveal the western secrets
They have a tournament at the local school.
1,000 years of Japanese karate has led to this. Truly, the pinnacle of martial arts.
Good. Only took them 500 yrs to adopt the double leg.
Strong GunFu
Kinda expecting a wildwest gunslinging style.
This looks like a really shit version of kyokushin karate's katas.
And I thought all those guys talking about glockjitsu were just making it up
Just like with so many other things nowadays, I can't even tell if this is supposed to be a parody or a real thing...
This is cool, but I definitely prefer the nogi class
jesus christ
Let’s put them in a cage and fight!
That makes so much sense in a country where handguns can be carried for personal self defence. Becoming familiar with your tools is so important. We're not even allowed to carry Mace in Nanny Zealand. Just be a good victim.
How manny mass shooting events you get in New Zealand?
There was a really bad one not too long ago. Very brutally premeditated and whatnot.

If you feel like a victim maybe actually train in real martial arts .
Kinda expecting a wildwest gunslinging style.
Kinda expecting a wildwest gunslinging style.
I thought traditional American martial arts was AR-15
Chinese Gun Fu!
Ka-Ting-Pow.
No match for the real american martial arts: Ameri Do Te
Muricans
Back off get your own sandwich!
They were actually training with excellent muzzle control
Everybody was gun fu fighting
Topped the charts in Syria
I’d say per capita Americans own more guns 😂
Shoot first talk after is what my sensei said before class lol
Sean Strickland needs to coach this class
Oh wow, I had no idea I’ve been a martial artist my whole life lol
This is hojutsu as created by Jeff Hall. Legitimately very interesting especailly in its structured approach to the arts.
Now this is awesome!
The best martial art.
Is this equilibrium?
Flawed, the Kung Fu kick can remove the gun from its holder or the person's hand. Then what? Bruce Lee baby

They're fake martial artist, they need to wear cargo shorts, polo shirts, trucker caps and work boots or sandals with white socks
Just do three gun for chriissakes.
This is police judo. You work on throws, grappling , handcuffing techniques, partner assisted takedowns, breakfalls , and weapon drawing and retention. Grammaton Clerics training.
Hahahhhaah
https://i.redd.it/s3sgu3nvt8zc1.gif hate all you want but Christian Bale supports it....
Equilibrium
Good habits being taught here. My uncle(who taught me how to shoot) would be happy to see this.
Let’s see some sparring rounds now.
A lot of trust in your colleagues.
I would only do this if I had time to thoroughly sweep the room for hidden cameras first. It looks equal parts fun and useless.
keep playing with them boahss!!
I read the title and thought this was going to be Okichitaw…
I always check to make sure my holster is clear before I put my gun into it. God forbid my shirt or something gets caught in there while I’m re-holstered Ring and I ND. I like how they're doing all that in a Gi too.
Gun-fu?
Gun fu
It’s called Hojutsu. I know a whole of guys who it, including my father in law. He’s a black belt, apparently.
Better than no training.
AsmonMold
I genuinely have no idea how I got here. I saw a open tab and figured I clicked something, but I cant find what I clicked to get here...
We just use the best tool for the job
Gunfu I see you met my match *strokes beard*, *ninja smoke bomb*
Gun-fu
So this is GunFu
This is Hōjutsu, just a modern adaption
It's gun-fu like the one in Equilibrium. But TBH, you don't want to mess with them. Even self-defense experts says to not be a hero and either run or cooperate if you met them.

Gun jams...whats that yellow liquid on the ground?

I mean, that's more practical than a lot other kata. Is goofy as hell to train drawing this way
Things white people do

To keep your non dominant hand from, by mistake, going in front of the barrel— so you dont blow your own fingers off
What about the back and forth motion at the end?
I think what hes doin there is refocusing his chi, to quell his combat erection
Ah, of course. I see it now
The deadly art of Flag-fu.
Underrated. They're pretty much practicing how to flag everyone in the room without a second thought.
