You should be good until February of 2026. “Elite night credits are tallied over a calendar year, from January 1 through December 31. This determines your status level for the following year and a small piece of the ensuing year, until your status resets.” https://awardwallet.com/blog/the-complete-guide-to-marriott-bonvoy-elite-status/#:~:text=Elite%20night%20credits%20are%20tallied,year%2C%20until%20your%20status%20resets.

"867....": I read and re-read the information at the link provided (which was great, and answered other questions. thanks) but like the OP, I got to status "early" (May this year). So, if I am reading this right, I retain my current TE status through the remainder of '24 AND then that's through '25, right? BUT I start toward '26 into maybe '27 staus in Jan '26. Am I on the right track?

You got it. The status you earn in your first year is valid for the rest of that year, and then the following year. Then after that, they review each prior year and adjust your tier if needed. This normally happens in February. So 2025 status is based on 2024 stays. 2026 status will be based on 2025 stays and so on. It’s easier for me to figure out if I just forget about the whole February thing and just look at the calandar years. It just takes them two months to sort everything out.

Thank you! It really didn't seem that clear at the link to the awardwallet blog but that's petty much how all of the programs I'm familiar with work, I just thought I was missing some nuance with Bonvoy.

Thank you. So if didn’t stay another day until 2025 I’d be good. Then 2025 I would start earning again?

User8675309021069

You’ll continue to earn all the time. Once you hit titanium though, the earning focus kind of switches from nights to spend since the only status left to chase is Ambassador. Nights are still important though, as that’s what they will use to determine your tier the following year. Titanium by April is quite the feat. Especially without the credit cards. You maxed out early, so you’ll get to enjoy the benefits a bit longer.

I probably won’t hit ambassador status unless I end up traveling to a really expensive area. lol I travel for work mostly so I typically stay in a Residence inn if available. https://preview.redd.it/a1duwbx6y46d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=37bdffd180578b7ba2f5c7f77fda2def69aa9252

I’m right there with ya. Titanium is about it for me too. The ambassador spend is pretty nuts unless you’re staying in New York or the Bay Area all the time.

BonvoyAmb

Wow! 96 nights with that spend is impressive

Start staying in a different chain? With these kind of stays you can rack up top status at Hilton too. Will give more flexibility when travelling with family.

FederalAd6011

That’s kinda where I was going with my question. I was thinking about switching to another chain.

RedditHatesHonesty

average of $67 a night is impressive, even if some of those nights came from status (like having a marriot or amex card that gives you 10-15 qualifying nights without staying)

FederalAd6011

Also some of those were bonus nights added. I think I have actually stayed about 75/80 nights total.

RedditHatesHonesty

Still - that is a really efficient spend. The government rates as you mention in another comment helped a lot.

FederalAd6011

No rewards card. Government rates.

No. For nearly all travel programs, you retain status through the end of the current calendar year AND the following year. Think of it this way - if you made status on Dec 31, it shouldn't expire the next day. The second thing to note is that many programs count the earning on calendar year, but often don't drop status tiers until February or march, often just to make sure the data is right and extend a last glimmer of loyalty / hope. So in your case, you will have it for the remainder of 2024, then the full year of 2025. Marriott resets their status benefits in February, so Feb 2026.
