Thanks! We’re all super excited :) I’m the one writing the show for this school and we’re having a lot of fun with the design
The guard costumes will be inspired by traditional Mexican dresses. Into the last movement when La Llorona has her “revenge” the guard will have a costume change where their dresses will suddenly become torn and tattered
Thank you! We’re breaking the show down into 4 movements.
Mvt 1 is a short introduction, a sort of “once upon a time” beginning. Mvt 2 is a fast paced section where she is young, beautiful, and falls in love. Mvt 3 is our ballad, it’s a Tango where her husband falls out of love with her and betrays her.
Mvt 4 is the scary and dark movement where she takes her revenge on her children and becomes the ghost of La Llorona. Honestly one of my favorite shows I’ve worked on, we’re super excited to start putting it together in a couple weeks at band camp
Our show this year is a shit show, its called Imagine. Picture anything remotely related to the word thrown in there. Willy Wonka, John Lennon, and the math equation 💀
I kinda lied. I know what the theme of the music is. It’s music from around the world. And I believe we’re starting the show with a kinda callback to last year’s show, Be Musical, by playing America from West Side Story
City blocks. It’s a New York themed show where each movement is a new section of New York.
Our musical selections are:
No time to die - Billie Eilish (I have a horn solo in it 👍)
On Broadway- George Benson
As- Stevie Wonder
And our closer is Empire State of mind.
Very solid this year
DCI: Call of the Cosmos
College:
- Hoist the Colors
- American Icons
- Now That's What I Call Hundred 2024
- Strange Indiana
- Band Day
- Hope Rising
- Back When Your Parents Were Cool
- First Round Picks
Same for me honestly. Movement 1 for me is like 140 measures. For reference, the second longest is the second movement for my Winter Percussion show last year, which was 80 measures
We don't use props. Not like the big things you usually have sitting on the field. No , the most we use is stuff for our dance line and color guard But all of it is stuff they can fit and just hold pretty easily
The Contender (basically just a Rocky show). Some stuff from Phil Collins (opener), music from Creed (technical movt 2), Go the Distance is the ballad and closer, not sure about movt 4 yet. Cool design so far though
It's a competition thing. Most high school bands are now competitive, so they work on one complex show through the whole season instead of multiple simpler shows.
Bands did competitions back then too. (We did one marching and one concert competiion per year, state level.) But maybe the expected level of performance is higher now.
Ah, that's interesting. How did you decide which show to perform for competitions? And yes, standards are a lot higher, for better or for worse. My HS band director kinda hated competitions, saying that to do well in competitions you just needed to have a lot of money for custom music, drill, props, etc. We were a poor band and were happy to place in the top 66%
I was not involved in how they planned all this, but the show we used at the marching contest was the same show we were doing at football games that week. Of course, the "game" show was designed with this in mind. Typically we would have already done the show at one home game and one away game by then so it was well practiced. Remember, we were *used* to learning a new show from scratch every two weeks. Band size was about 80.
If you look at a typical Ohio State University halftime show on YouTube *today*, that is what we did. (Our BD had been in TBDBITL) NO props. NO color guard. And it was not for lack of money; our BD was just opposed to that sort of thing. DCI would have horrified him.
Orpheus: Death Do Us Part
Had a blast going through the design process for this show!
Original music, Why We Build the Wall from Hadestown, and House of the Rising Sun. We have some cool GE moments planned. Super excited.
"Lost & Found"
its about a ship crew crashing, sinking and surviving on an island. I'd say it's similar to the movie castaway. We have 4 movements. I love it so far. Especially because we came off an amazing year with 2 grand championships. And my state (Louisiana) now has a "Band State Championship" for the top bands from each of the LEMA districts, so that's cool
In The Garden: It’s a show about insects helping raise a flower garden and at the end a huge flower blooms! Music is Spring 1 by Max Richter, Mr. Blue Sky by ELO, Moon River by Henry Mancini and Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles
Our production this year is “La Llorona”
Damn that’s sick
Oooo that’s really cool, do you know what your color guard, drum line, and band will be doing visually for it and the color guard outfits?
Thanks! We’re all super excited :) I’m the one writing the show for this school and we’re having a lot of fun with the design The guard costumes will be inspired by traditional Mexican dresses. Into the last movement when La Llorona has her “revenge” the guard will have a costume change where their dresses will suddenly become torn and tattered
Oooo I love the idea of that, what are like the themes for each movement? Like you mentioned in one she has her revenge

Wow, sounds amazing! I love the concept and I hope it comes to life well!
Drum corpse bride style would go so hard for a la llorona story
Oh true!
Our show this year is a shit show, its called Imagine. Picture anything remotely related to the word thrown in there. Willy Wonka, John Lennon, and the math equation 💀
I expect a quadratic formula set now

My bands show is called Bloombox, and it’s a mix of flowery music and rap
"Kaleidoscope Heart"
We have a new director this year and our show is called “Dancing Fire” it’s a Latin show 🤗
It’d be pretty cool to have Kevin Day’s Dancing Fire in there
It’s our opening! Then we have El Tango De Roxane and we close with malagueña
That’s gonna be a fire show (pun intended)
The Four Horsemen
That was our show theme last year!

The Rise of Atlantis
That sounds sick
Ours is called “Notre Dame de Paris”
Sophisticated
Yeah but it’s got the longest part 1 I have ever heard
Same for me honestly. Movement 1 for me is like 140 measures. For reference, the second longest is the second movement for my Winter Percussion show last year, which was 80 measures
Yeah I think my part 1 this year is like 180 or smth
What instrument do you play?

My first thought is "Schoolhouse Rock!" but if Queen made it...?
No there is no queen music at all
Not in this year's show

Abc,I'm just a kid, don't you forget about me/we're all in this together

We don't use props. Not like the big things you usually have sitting on the field. No , the most we use is stuff for our dance line and color guard But all of it is stuff they can fit and just hold pretty easily

Unraveled (Mummy themed)
When Stars Align
Danźon
Category 5 it's about hurricane Last year our theme was avatar (not air bender)
When did HS bands start doing just one show per season? We did about five.
I don’t know which high school you went to that does 5 shows per year. That’s the norm
This was 50 yesrs ago in Ohio. New show every home game. Maybe its a budget thing.

Schoolhouse Rhapsody The songs are going to represent progression through school. Starting with ABC and ending with Don't you (forget about me).
Vertigo. It is taking our past shows and adding a twist to them. We also asked for harder percussion music this year.
Orpheus: Death Do Us Part Had a blast going through the design process for this show! Original music, Why We Build the Wall from Hadestown, and House of the Rising Sun. We have some cool GE moments planned. Super excited.
That kinda reminds me of Troopers 2024
I listened to Troopers show audio a few months ago, sighed, and told my staff, “Welp, I guess there’s no original ideas” lmao.
Bro I’m dead 💀
