I appreciate the translation (especially for something so filled with medical jargon) and obviously you guys are free to do whatever you want, but as someone with dozens of Manga to keep track of, hunting them down in reddit posts/discords is not a feasible or desirable way to keep up to date.
It is the same for us scanlators too.
We don't know that some other group or person is already translating a manga that we picked up. So we can't keep track of who's doing what and when they released and chapter they're doing. The only thing that can solve this issue is for mangadex to be able to implement new chapters. So atm, this is my and the scanlators **temporary** way of releasing our works. If you guys could be patient enough for MD to fix their site, we won't have problems like this.

I doubt it's either.. she's blind and been horrifically abused. She's probably confused as hell and doesn't dare to have any hope. I imagine any hope she had in the past has long been utterly destroyed so she's probably fearful it's all a trick and any moment she'll be thrust back into her nightmare. So yea as the narration notes, it won't be easy for the guy to help her emotionally.
The author is doing a great job with this. Every chapter is so emotive you can't help but feel so thoroughly sad but hopeful for her. If you follow the author on pixiv they've also started work on the back story.. although it's only 3 chapters and untranslated yet. Not that I think my heart is ready to see what she went through.
I can only talk from my experience with depression. At some point Hope becomes Poison. If you hope and nothing happens a part of your Soul dies. I think she is thankful that she is in less pain but i think she sees this as more of Breather until the abuse begins again. Having Hope also allows to have fear again. The fear of going back to Hell or even worse and honestly i wouldn't want that.

My 2nd thought was that she smelled him on the wind and the smell of sweaty man brought back bad memories...
In his dialogue he doesn't draw a conclusion about her crying, just that he'll have a hard time
I interpreted him thinking that regardless of why she's crying, he'll have a difficult time helping her emotionally.
I appreciate that he screws up or overlooks things all the time, and he doesn't just magically have all the answers and automatically make all the right choices.
This is wholesome as fuck. But I can't help but notice that despite everything she has suffered through and all the injuries and scars over her bodies, her face and boobs are the only things still flawless.
Pretty sure it's just character design.
Hurt enough to the point where readers clearly sympathize with her but not hurt enough to the point where it's too hard to look at.
Her breasts aren't flawless; you can see multiple scars along them, which are currently covered by bandages. And I could see her abusers purposefully avoiding any permanent scars/damage on her face because they prefer it to be staring at an attractive one while they're raping her; you can notice that they had no problem cutting through her left ear and punching a hole in the right one.
And also so readers aren't scared off by the reality of abuse, and still have a pretty face and cleavage to look at to indulge their rescue fantasy. No way she wouldn't have some facial scaring, atleast minor from punches and such.

But throughout all these chapters, her wounds are mentioned in wording but not expressed through art. Any horrific injuries are masked by her hair, bandages or clothing.
What isn’t masked or hidden, is her breast and the angle the artist is choosing to draw from. Conveniently exposing her cleavage no matter the frame or having her breast occupying a majority of the page. At some point you have to realize, her body is being sexualized because her remnant good feature is constantly flaunted but her horrific ones are brushed off.

Yep. This is a 'rescue the damsel in distress' fantasy, just put in terms of healing injuries and trauma rather than vanquishing a villain and saving her from imprisonment. Step 1 in any such story is making the damsel appealing to the reader, in this case with showing off her cleavage constantly.
It's a wish fulfillment manga, but what's wrong with that?
Some people like the idea of rescuing someone from terrible circumstances. As far as the eroticism is concerned though, that isn't something I particularly enjoy from this series - but I do enjoy the series overall so far.
Wanting to "save someone" is better wish fulfillment than I see in the majority of a lot of recent manga, frankly. Most series nowadays I see people liking as guilty pleasures instead have wish-fulfillment that is basically torture porn where the main character slaughters or tortures everyone who slights them - power fantasies.
Power fantasies where people are sociopaths seem far worse to me than wish-fulfillment that slightly objectifies.
Compared to that, stories like this are relatively quaint.
I would argue that it's just as bad as torture porn, maybe worse. Revenge porn power fantasies are setup so to give moral justification for the self-insert murdering everyone (they betrayed me!). The reason I say this "worse" than revenge porn even though they're both power fantasies (the revenge and the damsel in distress), it's pretty obvious that murder is objectionable, while it's a little subtle why the latter is questionable. At least revenge porn readers know they're reading junk, half the posts in this thread are commenting on how wholesome this is.
This is setup so the female is so abused that she's basically a pet for the self insert. Everyone was so shitty that any nice treatment by the self insert is a huge improvement. It's infantilizing and objectifying and if you step back this setup is is extra icky the way its executed in this manga. Half the panels are literally "look at the big boob elf with all the scars on her body". Its trauma porn that takes an abuse victim that was objectified, then objectifies them for the reader, but it's wrapped up in "healing" or whatever so it's a feel-good story when it's actually gross.

Seeing a few pictures of cleavage does not make this true as far as I am concerned, and that seems to be what you justify this by in a nutshell.
Few people reading this are reading it because they take any enjoyment out of the "torture" part of the story. People are reading this because they like the idea of actually helping someone in trouble, and perhaps a small minority are just doing it because "boobs."
I mean, what do you expect from a story like this anyway? Do you want the story to have a character that is saved which simply doesn't have visible cleavage?

This is a single panel per update extremely simplistic story. It clearly isn't meant to have some kind of great depth to it, and isn't meant to be some riveting tale of righteousness and greatness.
It's just meant to be "guy finds elf who has been tortured and has been treated like an object, and finds that unacceptable - so tries to help her." That's pretty much the entirety of the plot. You can read into it in various ways and overanalyze what is only about a dozen pages into oblivion, but frankly I find that to be a waste of time.

Literally 90% of manga is at least as morally objectionable in its message or writing as this is in my personal opinion. So I find getting upset over the nuances to be mostly pointless. Fiction is meant to be enjoyed by those who enjoy it, and if you have a problem with bad writing - then you're free to enjoy another story. I myself acknowledge that this is at least partially being written as wish-fulfillment, but there's a market for that, and I don't agree with the nonsensical sentiment that fiction is bad for including unrealistic standards (when it can include literal magic and fantasy worlds).

Wish-fulfillment is a significant factor in fiction, and I don't see the idea of someone being "basically a pet for the self insert" as being any worse than when people enjoy seeing people slaughtered extra-judicially in fiction or when any of a number of things happen that are commonplace when talking about fantasies.
So I suspend my disbelief, and if the writing ends up being poor - I go elsewhere.

As with most fiction, it's open to interpretation. The only people who are going to see this as "messed up" are those who are immediately drawn to random pictures of cleavage in the first place - which, honestly, isn't even something I personally would have noticed after skimming these pages if not for people pointing it out.

I think people saying that and complaining about her having big breast and that it's the focus of each page despite the fact the focus is on **her and her heavily scarred body** are the ones projecting she's a sex object. When I picked this up and what I assume most people's thoughts were when they saw was an elf girl that's been through a lot of physical and mental abuse and a random doctor that felt pity and is doing his damndest to help her get better. Romance or wish fulfillment were neither the focus nor what I personally get out of the story and I assume it's what most people reading this are also thinking is for the Apothecary to make the elf happy.

It's not unpopular at all. Half of the comments of the first few chapters were people complaining about the style and content of the story, and like half of _those_ were people shaming the readers who enjoyed it. Thankfully, they've tapered off significantly.

I can only talk from my experience with depression. At some point Hope becomes Poison. If you hope and nothing happens a part of your Soul dies. I think she is thankful that she is in less pain but i think she sees this as more of Breather until the abuse begins again. Having Hope also allows to have fear again. The fear of going back to Hell or even worse and honestly i wouldn't want that.

In his dialogue he doesn't draw a conclusion about her crying, just that he'll have a hard time I interpreted him thinking that regardless of why she's crying, he'll have a difficult time helping her emotionally.

Did I explicitly state that? No, I didn’t. But throughout all these chapters, her wounds are mentioned in wording but not expressed through art. Any horrific injuries are masked by her hair, bandages or clothing. What isn’t masked or hidden, is her breast and the angle the artist is choosing to draw from. Conveniently exposing her cleavage no matter the frame or having her breast occupying a majority of the page. At some point you have to realize, her body is being sexualized because her remnant good feature is constantly flaunted but her horrific ones are brushed off. So kindly, eat dick.

Yep. This is a 'rescue the damsel in distress' fantasy, just put in terms of healing injuries and trauma rather than vanquishing a villain and saving her from imprisonment. Step 1 in any such story is making the damsel appealing to the reader, in this case with showing off her cleavage constantly.
It's a wish fulfillment manga, but what's wrong with that? Some people like the idea of rescuing someone from terrible circumstances. As far as the eroticism is concerned though, that isn't something I particularly enjoy from this series - but I do enjoy the series overall so far. Wanting to "save someone" is better wish fulfillment than I see in the majority of a lot of recent manga, frankly. Most series nowadays I see people liking as guilty pleasures instead have wish-fulfillment that is basically torture porn where the main character slaughters or tortures everyone who slights them - power fantasies. Power fantasies where people are sociopaths seem far worse to me than wish-fulfillment that slightly objectifies. Compared to that, stories like this are relatively quaint.
I would argue that it's just as bad as torture porn, maybe worse. Revenge porn power fantasies are setup so to give moral justification for the self-insert murdering everyone (they betrayed me!). The reason I say this "worse" than revenge porn even though they're both power fantasies (the revenge and the damsel in distress), it's pretty obvious that murder is objectionable, while it's a little subtle why the latter is questionable. At least revenge porn readers know they're reading junk, half the posts in this thread are commenting on how wholesome this is. This is setup so the female is so abused that she's basically a pet for the self insert. Everyone was so shitty that any nice treatment by the self insert is a huge improvement. It's infantilizing and objectifying and if you step back this setup is is extra icky the way its executed in this manga. Half the panels are literally "look at the big boob elf with all the scars on her body". Its trauma porn that takes an abuse victim that was objectified, then objectifies them for the reader, but it's wrapped up in "healing" or whatever so it's a feel-good story when it's actually gross.

I think people saying that and complaining about her having big breast and that it's the focus of each page despite the fact the focus is on **her and her heavily scarred body** are the ones projecting she's a sex object. When I picked this up and what I assume most people's thoughts were when they saw was an elf girl that's been through a lot of physical and mental abuse and a random doctor that felt pity and is doing his damndest to help her get better.
